Hello Guys,
I looking for some information about the NovaThor U8500, and I found in the blog rsalveti (google it) a board with the STE U8500 running maemo, meego and ubuntu, a great surprise for me, where they only need a compatible kernel to run, booting by U-Boot.
Like the Xperia P / U / Sola run on the same SoC, I think it would be quite easy to port U-boot for these models, which would be very good, especially for P, which have HDMI output, ubuntu could be ported easily and could be used as a real desktop, using a keyboard and mouse via USB-OTG, for example
Moreover, we have snowball board, which has a Nova A9500 (I could not find any difference between him and the U8500, only the Clock and the lack of modem), running Mozilla Firefox OS, Ubuntu and Android. In short, if we port U-boot successfully , the Xperia P has a great chance to became a new Nokia N9 here
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
And then, what you guys think about it?

Nice info,thanks for sharing:good:
It will be awesome, but as in my knowledge porting U-boot is not so easy
Anyways will be awesome if somebody ports it:victory:

XPT
Actually , they support STE U8500 :victory: http://lists.denx.de/pipermail/u-boot/2010-April/069653.html
Now, we only have to find someone who knows what they do with that information, and someone brave and crazy enough to test it.

The Rom surely look preety good.
I hope someone would port it
Yes i hop this too this is a very great rom and the CPU is supported
Hello. I'm not a true dev, but I like a lot WALKMAN app and I'd like to take a look to Xperia customization, too. I've done a basical port. Just boots and shows initial setup. Every process FCs. If anyone wants to work on this, I can upload the zip. Actually I'm on holiday and I've done this on my friend's PC. I'll take a better look inside this port when I'll be back home, but I DON'T PROMISE ANYTHING. As said in the beginning of the post, I'm not a true dev, so I'm not sure I can do this.
But maybe there's someone sets ran for porting
Yes for sure you can port that from P500 Due to almost same device (Same based armv6) just need some trick over the porting.
Framework & Apps most important overall for the porting process. Also for adb knowledge

Looks cool tough
I'm a complete noob in Android development, but I'm a quick learner, so bear with me.
I was thinking that the TRIM feature of the Android 4.3 is kind of important to have, but I'm missing it out with Android 4.2.1 on my Xolo Q700.
My device has a MediaTek MT6589M chipset with quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU and PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU. There's a gig of RAM.
I looked all over the internet and couldn't find a ROM that takes me to 4.3, so I decided I'll try to port it to my device.
I know that Google provides the source code for Android 4.3, so is there any way I could port it to my device?
I'd be glad if you helped, expect me to bug you with questions because I really want this to happen.
Leave links to useful instructions too, if you can!

Welcome to the Android development world,
Well firstly, is there a ROM available for your device?
If there is, porting a 4.3 ROM would be possible, and made easy.

I don't think so. Can I extract the company-provided ROM from my phone? There might be a recovery ROM somewhere on the internet, I can find it if there's no option to extract the one in my phone right now.
Is it really possible to port 4.3?

Dude ,For porting/devloping 4.3/4.4 rom for xolo q700 needs Kernel sources of mtk6589 too , google releases the 4.43/4.4 sources but without OEM kernel sources its not possible for now! Mediatek is not releasing the sources ,thats the main reason!

Hello people.
I just came to the forums and since nothing is happening here visibly, i was wondering to do CyanogenMod bringup for the device
Dont forget the poll above
If there are people here, willing to help us out a bit, it would be good to do something here.
Post your hangouts here, if you are interested in what we are wanting to do.
We can use all the help available. Testing, dev-ing, etc! Just pool in everything we got and lets get rolling

I hope cm comes to this device I see ATM there's not a lot happening in the way of custom ROMs suppose its early days [emoji3]
Yeah, although CM would be good at some point in the future, I don't know how useful it is at the moment since the phone is running pretty much stock android anyway with just minimal Sony skinning on top however it'd still be nice to see it as an option

(As soon as I will be able to buy it this week. )

Today I bought E2303.

None of the rooting methods are working.
Cyanogen would be nice . .
Cyanogenmod would be soooo nice to see on our phones! HW is great, but sony's software is crippling it...
Sent from my E2303 using XDA Free mobile app
who can root it???
Can't wait for CM. There is so much bloat in this phone
Maybe in a few months
Have Sony released device/kernel sources? I'm planning to buy this phone and I can compile roms if it has open sources

Dear Developers and Hackers of XDA,
I just bought this tablet. I looked around on the MIUI forum for MI Pad 2 and see that there are ways to root a developer MIUI ROM for this tablet. I also see that there are also instructions to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery. I am big fan of Cyanogemod and am hoping to have it on the tablet. Has anybody tried and/succeeded to port Cyanogenmod to this tablet?
Hoping for the best
Sincerely
dspati
Hi dEvasEnApati I'm in your situation! I hope to recive news as soon as possible because i want to install cyano!
Xda dev have you got some news?
Hi,
Following the instructions from the miui forum I managed to unlock the bootloader, root , install TWRP and AOSP rom. I was wondering what are the requirements to have a cyanogen mod for it? Are there CMs for devices with intel x86_64 hardware?
I'll get my mipad 2 soon! I think in a week or two then I'll Start heavy development on it ? i think of aosp is possible cm will be possible too :] I'll keep u guys updated
Hi Nailyouh,
Thank you very much for doing this!
Maybe this may help: As paul_ro21 mentioned, a working AOSP rom, which was most probably developed by Xiaomi is available on the miui forums. I have it on my mi pad 2 as well and it's working fine. I am looking forward to a CM rom for this tablet and I will be happy to help with testing!
Sincerely
dspati

Waiting for your work on CM
Im too tired with stupid MIUI on this awesome tablet :
Stupid ram management, it has 2gb ram but it cannot run multi-tasking !
Im facing a big Problem i was not aware about..the Kernel of the MiPad2 is not open source so we are pretty f**ed by xiaomi. In fact the Kernel source has to be released but xiaomi don't care about Copyright infringements. I regret the decision buying this Tab. I like the Dualboot thingy and the aosp Rom runs smooth as butter but without the source we'll stuck on 5.1.1. really sad if you ask me, the Tablet is really beautyful and I love the outstanding Display. I'll try to figure around with the kernel from the aosp Rom next week I'll keep u informend and will make a thread if I suceed.
Cheers

Kernel source is now out on github. Any thoughts about it?
Hi everyone, who still browses these threads.
It's pretty obvious that development for our devices is practically dead. But as I noticed pretty recently - devices like Xperia T or S III mini are one of the first to get Lineage OS. I believe someone spoke about starting new development for Xperia P and I'm interested in any news. Also, I have two Xperia U devices laying around so I'd be willing to help out. Tell me, what you think. Can we push P, U, Sola or Go any further? It seems like a fun challenge to me...
The sony devices with novathor chipset i almoast dead duo to the low chip power an some developers have left this phones ... but are some developer like hakx20 is still working on cm12.1 and lineage 13 for xperia p and kebabra10 a rusian developer is trying to build lineage 14 for xperia p ... i hope to get a bugles lineage 13 on my phone
@HiR3x thanks for mentioning me but well kadabra10 gave up already and well im working on Oreo which is almost done just need to get working boot.img. But well yeah this is just for Xperia P and well once i got it booting i will release all the device tree sources so other devs can use them.

If you have 2 Xperia U you could be a tester if you want but well still need to finish oreo then we can test
And to answer the second question then yes we can push our devices a lot more then LP yeah sure we didnt get MM or N but well with help of @ChronoMonochrome i pushed the device a lot and well i got an zip file of Oreo that will 90% work but well i still didnt get working boot.img which im working on i had a holiday for few days because Christmas and all that stuff but well i need to start working on it again.
So Plan is like this:
1. Working boot.img with disabled SElinux
2. Test the zip
3.5. If it doesnt boot find a fix.
4. Fix bugs
The problem is that i needed to delete entire SEpolicy stuff in device tree to get it compile because it wasnt updated from LP and well MM changed a lot of SElinux stuff so the first thing to do is to disable SElinux totally in kernel if that boots up then we can move on and start to create SEpolicy again from scratch (I could use some help on creating the SEpolicy).
And once thats done fix the bugs that were introduced in Oreo bringup.
Also i know 8.0 is not up to date but well once i get this booted up i will surely download LineageOS15.1 sources and build them.
So what i can say at the end is that its not 100% sure that we will get Oreo running but well its 90% possible that we will get it booted up.
So just wait its gonna take some time since im the only dev doing the work.
