International model root? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apologies for the probably noobie question.
I got an s3 that other day and installed the official jelly bean update first thing when i powered it up.
I am wondering how to root now after the update?
Obviously i googled it but I can't find any information on my baseband version. I have baseband XXDLID.
I've rooted and ran several roms on my xperia x8 before so I'm familiar with these things on the x8 but not the s3 so I just need a hand.
Thanks for any help.

check the stickies. there's a wiki link there.
EDIT: don't post the same exact thread in different forums... That's breaking the rules

Stock kernel

Howdy!
Firstly. I have a simfree sgs2. Xwlp7 stock rom. Im looking to root but i cant seem to figure out how i would go about 'backing up' the stock kernel installed?
Can it be done?
Is it a case of downloading it from the interwebs? If so, where from?
Thanks in advance.

firstly, this belongs in the q&a section, reported.
all stock roms, kernels, csc packages and flashing instructions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
and all cf-root kernels can be found here:

everything you need can be found in those 2 threads

[Q] Some questions about rooting

Hi everyone
I am gonna buy a galaxy s3 this week and i want to know some things about rooting the device
I have worked with odin and i know how it works
And i used odin once to root my friends galaxy s.(using chainfire)
But for galaxy s,chaonfire created different pda files based on the region
But for this phone i saw that there is only one pda file (for all regions)
So here is my question:
Is this version of cf-root (the one for galaxys 3 i men)
Region independent? I mean won't i loose any languages?
And by the way, after rooting,is it possible to update the phone using kies or using ota updates?
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Ota no updates. Kies possible updates.Root information all in Development section.

Actually, Chainfire says in the first few posts of his CF root thread that it does support OTA (but will need to re flash CF root afterwards)

Thanks for your answer
But you didnt answer my first question
Is this version of cf root region free?
The S3 CF-root is for any firmware provided your phone is either GT-I9300 or GT-I9300T
All the info in the first two posts anyway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238

Standard answer to ten thousandth same question .
Original is original
not original is built from other sources
Custom kernel are you sure you understand kernel is not firmware .

Your question has been answered many times.. but still i'll answer it again.
The Original section is the place where the actual development takes place. Like kernel's, Hacks and Official Custom ROM'.
Everything else belongs in the Android development section.
Hope this helps.
Did you really mean 'rooted kernel' or did you flash "CF-Root" in Odin??

Yes you can flash ROM's present in both the sections. Just make sure you follow the instructions.

Which is the best method to root an unlocked galaxy S3?

Hello, I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300, and I'd like to know if you could help me out on getting proper instructions on how to get it rooted? I've read about using Odin3-v1.85.zip and CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.zip but I don't know if the method is outdated or what, thanks!
This forum is for Verizon. If you have the international version you should ask here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1563
Agreed. Moving there.
i used odin Version 3.0.4 and cf root 6.4. you'll find that on xda

[Q] How do i root GT-I9100 4.0.4 Vodafone UK?

Hi,
i have recently noticed the new jellybean leak and im interested in rooting my s2 which is the Vodafone Kernel 3.0.15-1056085 - Build number imm76d.bulpg. I can find numerous tutorials how to root ones with a different build number. But i cannot find anything on the BULPG 4.0.4 build.
Wil the steps for the 4.0.3 work?
Thank you
You don't need to root if you're flashing the JB leaked update.
You just need to know how to comprehend the English language, learn how to use the search feature or read the S2 forums and have a big enough set of balls to flash it using Odin.

Briliant,
So the I9300XXLSJ Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Test firmware for the Galaxy S II. I9100XXLSJ will work OK although my build number is different?
I have not done any rooting for a few years since my HTC Hero so ive lost track of all the roms and releases.
Thank you. :good:
If you do want to root then download Siyah kernel (TAR not CWM) and flash the TAR file using Odin. Then the world is your Chinese knock off pearl factory.
