Howdy!
Firstly. I have a simfree sgs2. Xwlp7 stock rom. Im looking to root but i cant seem to figure out how i would go about 'backing up' the stock kernel installed?
Can it be done?
Is it a case of downloading it from the interwebs? If so, where from?
Thanks in advance.

firstly, this belongs in the q&a section, reported.
all stock roms, kernels, csc packages and flashing instructions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
and all cf-root kernels can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
everything you need can be found in those 2 threads

Question as thread title.
I am a noob to all this rooting flashing, rom, odin stuff.
I've read about it as much as possible,
But when i actually head to the dev section, all i see is 2.3.4 or 2.3.5
But im living in singapore, and so far, i'm only living with 2.3.3
So the question is, if for example i see, Litening Rom 6.1,
and i see 2.3.4, does that mean i cant 'Flash' it into my phone?
Do i need 2.3.4 before flashing it?
Help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Nope, you can flash any Rom you like.

so when it says 2.3.4 , if i flash it, I'll get the features of 2.3.4?

the other thing I see is that the roms are based on XXKH3 etc etc, but I'm on something like DXKI2, what do I have to do?

it would be really awesome if someone could provide me with a link to a step by step guide to installing a custom ROM to S2!

Follow Chainfire's instructions exactly and you'll be fine. Any further questions, best to direct them to his forum.
After the matching CF-root kernel is flashed, you will have superuser and his custom recovery installed, then can then flash any custom rom placed on your sdcard via cwm recovery
Edit: also good links to info beaten to out by JJ,..... Again

Hey guys, thanks for all the info. So basically what i gotta do first is to use CF-root to first root my phone?
Then i use cwm to do a backup, followed by flashing any rom with odin?
Yes but its follow the instructions for the relevant rom not flash any rom through Odin . Most custom roms are CWM flashes .

CF-rooting my phone, right now my kernel version says : DXKI2
so if i download the file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4-42-v4.2-CWM4.zip
would this be correct?
and i see that this file is CF-Root v4.2, SU 3.0, "insecure"
meaning is has superuser , but what does insecure mean?
should i download a secure one?
sorry for being a lil' troublesome..
Make sure you backup your efs folder

I was looking for a thread about unrooting my galaxy s2 but i didn't find any tutorial with links and explanations about what is flashing and original stock and some other words that i didn't understand.
so if someone could show me such a tutorial i would be very thankful.
Try here

Thank you i think that this will do!
just flash a stock rom over the one you are using...
I assume that flashing is useing the odin but where do i get a stock rom?
Have a look at the xda bookmarks in my sig. There's both branded and unbranded stock firmware in there.
Ok so i download the israeli firmware for instance snd then flash it with the odin? Will it get rid of the triangle?

I'd like to know if it is possible to flash another modem even though you have this or any other custom ROM installed.
Regards,
Yep, u can flash any modem on any rom doesn't depend on the rom.

Where can I get an UH (Latin america) modem? I've searched on the developer's forum and found the whole package, not the modem alone
Have you looked at intratech's thread on original firmwares?

That's where I found the modem packed with PDA and CSC. I only need the modem.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Anyone?
Hi,
I have a Korean SHW-M250s and wanted to root my phone with CF-Root and currently my kernel is 2.6.35.7-M250s.EG14.1208-CL380592. The rule of thumb for CF-Root to find the file to download is to get the file in bold CF-Root-2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG1-CL349526. This doesnt really apply to the Korean version and i was wondering if anyone could tell me which file to use please?
Thanks in advance
Check in the "General "section of the forum. There is a thread dedicated to Korean models.
I hope you'll find what you're looking for there.
Good luck

You could also flash siyahkernel 2.6.12 .tar file with PDA in Odin. Will root and give custom "red pill" recovery.

Hey I have the same phone and I'm on ICS and do you happen to know a way to root it?
it's on 4.0.4
Apologies for the probably noobie question.
I got an s3 that other day and installed the official jelly bean update first thing when i powered it up.
I am wondering how to root now after the update?
Obviously i googled it but I can't find any information on my baseband version. I have baseband XXDLID.
I've rooted and ran several roms on my xperia x8 before so I'm familiar with these things on the x8 but not the s3 so I just need a hand.
Thanks for any help.
check the stickies. there's a wiki link there.
EDIT: don't post the same exact thread in different forums... That's breaking the rules
