stuck after cwm flushing - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im stuck after i flushed cwm5 through odin! i have just the yellow triangle but nothing after that! im able to get into recovery mode (the blue one) and download mode also but nothing else!

Flash latest official firmware, http://samfirmware.com/ via Odin and will be OK.
After that remember to use safe kernel.

No need to flash stock firmware since you can enter recovery. Simply flash a zip version of a custom kernel like siyah or dorimanx. That comes with a custom version of CWM recovery and should get rid of the softbrick. Thereafter you can flash a custom ROM or stick to stock based on what you want.

People are definitely getting stupider. Also its flash not flush.

I don't really understand why did you need to flash recovery, while it comes updated with the kernel. Basically you need yo flash a kernel with odin now that's compatible with your android version. Not hard to find. Your phone will boot no problem

[Q]CwM Recovery Won't Stick!!

I am having an issue with flashing CWM via Odin and keeping it there. I flash CWM via ODIN, I've tried 3 diff versions of CWM , Red One, Voodoo (blue one) and the 3.0.0.8 via rom manager (orange one) each time i flash one, i can boot into after flashing it via ODIN, but when i reboot the phone. CWM is gone and its back to the factory samsung recover "for all devices" nonsense. I have been able to obtain root by flashing via the SU zip method and I have root, i just can't flash a rom b/c cwm wont stick....any ideas? search returns nothing!
Thats because you need a modified kernal for cwm to stick.
Here is the modified stock kernal for a froyo rom. put this in the pda function of odin.

+1 to you.
I appreciate the kind words sir, thanks!

did you odin a cwm recovery after the modified stock kernal?
Make sure your battery is removed when entering download mode to flash cwm via odin.
Once it shows successful, remove the cable.
insert battery and immediately enter cwm using the 3 finger method.
Flash a custom stock kernel.
choose "reboot system now"
let the system boot up.
then boot back to cwm recovery and flash your rom of choice.

[Q] Help, flashed wrong kernel on SGS2

So this is the case, I had a rooted sgs2 running on MIUI 2.3.16 and brightly decided to flash the kernel into siyah.
Obviously that didnt work out too well, and I ended up in a situation where the phone stucks at startup showing the sgs2 logo, and wont budge from there.
I have no clue what was the kernels "version". Is there anything that can be done?
Allready tried to search the forums, but didnt find a similar situation.
Boot into recovery & do a factory reset. If that doesn't work, reflash Miui which will reinstate the Miui kernel.
If you can't get into recovery, reflash stock firmware in Odin, CFRoot the phone, then reflash Miui.
I'm assuming you should still be able to enter cwm/recovery... just go in to that and re-flash miui

You should find out what kernel it MIUI used, else you can end up
try very many different hehe.
But no panic, I guess you have Odin on youre pc?
Just start phones downloadmode by volume down-home, poweron.
Connect to usb cable, fire up Odin, and flash kernel (PDA in Odin)
Good luck man
Cant get to recovery, Only thing that i can do is to use Odin, how do i get back to stock kernel, or, even better, anyone know the MIUI kernel?
Flash stock in Odin as I said, then CFRoot it. If you've got a Nandroid (CWM) backup, you should then be able to restore that rather than flash Miui. If not, flash Miui in CWM. Stock roms/instructions for flashing same can be found here, if links don't work search for stock firmware on Samfirmware.com.
What Siyah kernelndid you flash? I flashed beta6 over the latest MIUI and it just went to a black screen.
Just hold down the power button with vol up + home. It'll eventually boot to recovery where you can flash MIUI again.

odin -> bootloader flash -> wait for logo battery out -> odin flash stock -> odin cf root -> recovery flash ur miui and kernel again
Issue solved!
Thankyou for you all for your quick replies and help!
Good How did you fix it ?
managed to get to cwm recovery after flashing one of the cf-root kernels, and from there on, just flashed miui all over again...
Ahhh OK. Cool. Glad you got it sorted

Try flashing the kernel again after you flash the rom

Well that doesn't make sense lol. Your device is suppose to boot into the main menu and not CWM when flashing a rom and kernel. Are you saying it gets stuck when you go into CWM after boot? Anyways try going back to stock. Then open up the recovery (the regular android recovery) and wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition. Then flash the kernel first, and then the rom. If it still gets stuck reflash only the kernel (without going back to stock).
I believe you can If the rom allows you to swap boot animations. I know on the 4.0 with the IcyFusion rom the creator was using the galaxy nexus boot animation, so I don't see why you couldn't use the G S i9000 animation.
One more thing are you using the 4.0, or 5.0?

So you can get into the main screen of your device, well at least we know it isn't bricked. Have you tried flashing a different kernel and it just does the same thing? Futhermore what rom and kernel are you using, and what player do you have (US, International, Eur).
i was trying all steves and terrasilent kernels and they all stuck on cwm... now i'm using stock rom with stock kernel becose it's the only way to keep my device running wihout stuck on cwm i have galaxy player 4.0 international

Well that sucks lol. Did you double check to make sure you where downloading the right kernel and rom for your device? And did you try reflashing the kernel again with the custom rom already installed? Like Flash the kernel, then flash the rom, then flash the kernel again because sometimes the kernel gets *overwritten* <-- is what I say, and you just have to reflash it again.
yes i'm sure i was tryning to reflash kernel again but still the same sh** hapens...

Try to get back to stock rom and kernel and then try klin's kernel.
Which version of odin are you using? Anyways flash the kernel let it boot and then go into CWM to see if it get's stuck
i'm using Odin v1,7 that was in xda
EDIT: i don't know what black magic was today but it didin't stuck when i reflashed the kernel 5 times after i installed EtherealRom V2.4.... :?

[Q] Black screen after flashing kernel

Hi,
I tried to flash a new kernel through odin but when my phone reboots the screen stays black (but I can still hear the boot-up sound).
I'm running stock 4.1.2 on I9100 and I'm rooted.
Is there a way to solve this?
Or just explain why this is happening?
Thanks,
Omit931
More details pls mate.
What kernel and were from?
What ROM/firmware?
What have you tried?
Can you get to download mode or recovery?

I have tried with Siyah (and Dorimanx, which is based on Siyah) Kernel (from here on XDA).
I'm just using the official stock rom 4.1.2 (but rooted)
I can get into recovery and download mode.
So i can get back to stock kernel to get all functions back, but I would like to try other kernels to try dual-boot, better performance,...
Flash dori 8.32 I no this works. Flash through recovery. To dual boot a 4.1.2 ROM it need to be moded. stock won't dual boot. Don't try.
I just tried to do that but I keep getting an error message:
"E:signature verification failed"
edit:
After looking a bit more into it, the error is "status 7" which would mean (according to google) that it isn't compatible with my phone.
Which surprises me since it is a kernel build for the i9100.
I've also seen a status 7 for a bad download of the file. Re-download the kernel and give it a go.
As you can't boot, download the kernel on your pc, then in cwm, go mounts&storage >mount usb. Then transfer the file over from pc to phone, and flash. Dorimanx 8.32 is a good bet as Andrew said.
Edit: that's assuming that you boot into CWM recovery, not the stock recovery.
Also, when you were flashing via Odin, were you flashing the tar extension as needed? Or did you accidentally grab the zip file? Zip file won't work on Odin, only in a custom recovery.
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
When I flashed with Odin, I did use the tar file. There was no error using odin but when I rebooted, the screen stayed black.
I would want to use CWM but when I try to instal it (using the zip file from the Clockworkmod site) it's only temporary because when I reboot the phone, it's back in stock recovery
Yes, correct. To get the permanent recovery, you can use PhilZ kernel. Its the stock kernel, only rooted and with CWM recovery. It comes in an Odin version as well as a version which is flashable from stock recovery.
But back to your flashing....
What 4.1.2 are you on? And it is an i9100 we're talking about right?
And what kernel did you flash?
If Odin said it passed, the reason (except on rare cases) for it not booting is that there is an incompatibility between the ROM and the kernel you flashed.
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
It is the i9100, buildnumber: i9100xwlss (if that's what you're asking).
I tried to flash Siyah and Dorimax (I know this is based on Siyah). Both gave the status 7 error.
I'll try Philz Kernel and let you know what the result is.
Edit:
Philz Kernel installed and working perfect. Thank you very much!
Yes, that's what I was asking.
Great work! Now you should be set make sure you read carefully before doing anything, that's my tip.

[solved]Root installed, but can't replace 3e with cwm

I've wanted to install CM10.2 but, anytime i try to replace 3e with cwm, after reboot still 3e starts, so I can't go any further. In mid 2013 I've replaced old 4.0.4ICS with noncarrier XEO (Poland) 4.1.2 Samsung orginal. I've used Odin, and everything works fine. But now I would like to learn more about roms, but can't, couse cwm won't replace orginal 3e. If I did something wrong, please point me.

install dorimanx kernel v8.43 via odin

Ok. I will try, but what if I would like to test cm? Is this mean I can't install cwm recovery at all? Im new, like I've wrote, but not new in Linux. I thought that, if I can install cwm recovery that I would install anyrom I wish. But I will try with dorinmanx anyway.
//edit
Kernel installed successfully. Does it mean, I can try to install cwm recovery or CM? How to remove yellow triangle which appears on the start?

Along with the kernel you should have a custom recovery installed, now, and proceed to mount any custom ROM you want to try out.

Q4: When I turn my phone on, I see a yellow triangle. What is it and how can I get rid of it?
It will appear if you have flashed a non-official kernel from download mode. If you flash kernels using CWM recovery, Mobile Odin etc. you won't get this yellow triangle.
The easiest ways to remove it are to use the app Triangle Away OR use a USB Jig.

Thanks for help. Installing dorimanx kernel with cwm gives me oportunity to test CM and many others. Actually I need to export/import full contact list and text messages from stock to CM or any other rom and lastly be happy to use random rom.
Thanks again.
