[Q] Problem in flashing a custom ROM Jelly Sandwitch - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

I am a noob. Having Neo V running ICS .587 rooted & with locked bootloader. Used x-parts to install cwm and then installed Jelly Sandwitch rom. It was a success but after rebooting stuck at Sony logo. Could not go to recovery when I tried booting the phone again (I had to remove battery to switch off). After reading the steps once again, I find that probably I missed "Flash kernel modules via cwm". If that is true, how it is to be done? x-part has no such option and rom manager did not do that (When I press Flash CWM recovery, it gives my phone model and asks to confirm. Then it asks, if I have installed CWM Recovery manually as there is no officially supported one. Chooses the correct one as CWM 5.X.X.X but does nothing beyond that. If you press the flash button again, the story repeats)? Some one pl help.

1stly
X parts gives cwm
Which is to be installed again as you have locked BL
Also you can't flash any kernels
So you don't need WiFi modules
As you didn't change kernels
Follow these steps to install JS ROM
Wipe cache
Wipe data
Wipe dalvic cache
format data
Format cache
Format system
Install ROM
Done...
Install x parts to get cwm again !

As for as searching..
Doing a search in Google also requires talent and experience to search exact word and exact phrase to get exact results..
How can a noob do a search without those things.. Hope you understand..

X - Parts is not working. I tried it before. And results were same. But I found another way.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364509
Use this method. It works. But you have to install it again after you change ROM
And before you flash a custom rom ( stock based..your bl is locked )
Wipe cache / factory reset
Recommend backup.
Wipe dalvic cache
Format system
and install .zip .
I hope it will works.
And if you do something wrong like you forgot to wipe dalvic cache , just flash a stock rom
I hope it was helpful! Good luck!
And don't forget. You are noob.Don't try everything or BRICK! Lol..
Forget modules...other stuff.Look you have Neo V with 4.0.4 .587. Your phone is rooted. Your bootloader is locked.
And Jelly Sandwich is a stock based rom with stock kernel. If you want more performance like OC , you need a OC supported kernel. And no stock kernel has this support. Only custom kernels and you have to open bootloader. And if you are a noob, don't try it.
Modules was for locked bootlader kernels. But it is a long story. So just recover your phone with flashtool and install CMW. And wipe datas/caches .. install zip.

Thanks a lot. I was missing "Format System" as the developer has not mentioned in her instructions and got confused with her instruction "5a. Flash kernel modules via cwm" which I also thought was not necessary to start with but since I got stuck at "Sony" logo I started looking for the same but got no confirmation or otherwise hence added the post. I am now happily running this new ROM. Thanks again for helping me, regds, Madan Mohan

Thanks for appreciating the frustration. Believe me I have done thorough search for almost half day in various forums including XDA as well as YouTube but probably chosen a wrong path. I am a bit wiser now with the help in this forum and now happily enjoying my new ROM.

My apologies, if I broke any rule of the forum by adding new post. Not trying to justify but belive me I had searched XDA, other forums as well as YouTube for more than half day but probably travelled a wrong road. With Sony logo shining on my phone, totally frustrated I decided to seek help by creating a new post. It helped me and hopefully will help other noobs like me. I am now enjoing new ROM. I hope this learning will help me to be more thorough with my search. regds,

Always do that step if you get stuck up during installation
It works for locked BL always..

Few questions about CM9.

Hello.
I have just got this phone few days ago.
I am intrested in installing CM9, but i have few questions. If i have understood correctly, I need to install leaked ics before installing cm9 (or any other ics rom). Can this be done with mobile odin, and if can, am I able to keep the root with it? (It has function to keep root)
Also, does cm9 support usb otg? There was no result when i tried to search.
Sorry if these are stupid questions.

if you are already rooted which i gather you are just flash the latest nightly. then flash the last google apps and that is it job done. you can flash all those from recovery.
Make sure you back up your current rom and apps and then go ahead and do full wipe. Data - cache - and dalvik and also format system in mount and storage. Flash the above two i mentioned and that should be it.
Regarding the usb - otg not sure but you can ask in the discussion thread
EDIT: i went from checkrom v6 straight to cm9 if that helps.
No. You don't need to install leaked ICS first. I tried CM9 over the weekend & flashed CM7 first. Follow the instructions on the first page of the CM9 discussion thread & you'll be fine.
If you use the files linked to in the first post in the CM9 thread, they're CWM flashable, so you'll need to have a kernel installed that has CWM in order to flash them. CFRoot kernel will do just fine if your phone isn't already rooted with a kernel that has CWM. There might be Odin flashable files around somewhere, you might have to search for them.
It is rooted, yes. Does it support USB OTG ? Good question. That's one thing I do use a bit on GB & forgot to test when I used CM9. Given USB file transfer doesn't work yet, I doubt it. But ask in the CM9 discussion thread or read the FAQS/Wiki.
So in summary, given you haven't done anything to your phone yet:-
1) Root it with a CFRoot kernel
2) Go to the CM9 discussion thread & follow the install instructions in the first post.

True but once you get the hang of things and how things work with the s2 it is a piece of cake..But i must admit sometimes i get scared on what to do specially if i have to unroot and root again as i have only done it a few times...Once i stayed rooted that is it...i do all my upgrading by flashing custom roms. anyway good luck with cm9 you will not regret using it..let me know how you get on
Haha ;-) You Sir are a noble man
OP - Yep, S is right. CM9 is a very nice piece of work given they've only had leaks & their own considerable hacking talents to work with. It's not quite a 'daily driver' for me at this point, but once sources come out I'll be switching back to it post haste. I'd be surprised if the CM team don't have a stable ICS release long before other devs.

This is my first post. I have read the FAQ section and I spent some time with the beloved search bar. No luck so far.
I am a noob so I want to say thanks in advance to anyone/everyone willing to evan glance at this post let alone lend a hand..
I have rooted my Samsung Galaxy SII (AT&T) and appears to be working fine until I install any custom rom. When I do so and reboot the phone the boot animation will begin but then hang on both ROM's I have tried.
Ive made sure to create a buckup of my phone after root so both times I just reverted to the backup.
So far I have tried resurrection & AOKP ICS ROM..
I am running 2.3.6..
Feel like Im so close but yet so far.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.

Have you done a complete wipe prior to flashing? That is usually the problem.

Nick is correct you really need to figure it out as it is necessary for flashing anything.
But in cwm wipe data/factory reset option is the one you need to complete prior to flashing any rom

Assuming you're using CWM Recovery to flash, you should be able to find Wipe Data/Factory Reset option there. If not, you might want to follow this:

CWM stands for Clockwork Mod, an app that can only be installed once rooted and can create backups and install ROMS.
CWM is not an app. It's a custom recovery.
Thanks for the answer but how me to run CmW in my mobile ?

Firstly, make sure ur phone is rooted, then install CWM,and then flash the Rom (you can flash this Rom with locked bootloader since it's based on stock Rom) and follow the screen guide which is your phone name,etc....

If you unlock your bootloader the official way, you can install a lot of roms around here, but you will loose warranty and the DRM.
There is also a way to unlock it via testpoint method, you don´t loose your DRM
I unlocked my bootloader the offical way, i dont use DRM, and i can install all that wonderfull custom kernels here, many of them make your phone much smoother and safes battery, thats why i unlocked my BL
If you have unlocked bootloader you can flash a kernel only, like KRsH Kernel ICS 3.0, this kernel will root your .587 on first boot easy way to root yout phone, but remember you need unlocked bootloader and this will void your warranty and you will loose DRM (depends on the way you choose to unlock your BL)
For me, i prefer this way rooting my stock FW.

sure bro. am not tired of reading.. jus lil confused .Dats y i created thread specifying my device's configuration hoping some one will exactly post how to root it
You are the rude one by acknowledging that there are guides out there and decide to open a thread instead of doing like everyone else did, search, learn, search some more, act. I rooted my phone 3 days after getting it when there was half of the guides out there atm, and with little to no knowledge about android, and i am not some sort of super-genius, i can assure you that.
Here it's all explained along with a nice android dictonary http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792
And this is a thread started by mihan especially for noobs (and it starts by saying "i know there's lots of guides but people keep asking so here's one more") http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792
As a matter of fact you got bashed by pretty much everyone who replied.
The info is all out there, if after all that you still don't underastand what root is or have doubts about it perhaps it's not a path you should follow.
As zeppelinrox says "calling yourself a noob is no excuse, do like everyone else of us did, search and learn, it's all out there", if you encounter problems following root then people will be there to help, but your thread sounds a lot like "guys, how do i power on my phone? i can't be bothered reading the instruction manual" and that is rude, disrespectful and demotivating towards all the people who took time to make the aforementioned guides (btw, i only took the first two sticjkies of this post, and all is explained there, there's no need to search further).

Even googling for a "Root Neo V 4.0.4 4.1.B.0.587" which is btw your thread title, gives you XDA thread with instructions..
Sorry for being harsh but this is unbelievable..
YES!!..i have read couple of threads..
a thread by you..but it only shows for locked bootloader..
another thread by vimjam..but it doesn't work..it says extract zip file from recovery mode..how do I enter recovery mode if i havent even rooted..
then there were couple of other threads..but all for different firmwares..nothing for .587

1) read them BETTER, it even says in thread title that it's for locked AND unlocked and even says that it's for that exact firmware which you have,
2) you don't need to be rooted to enter in recovery, since you are on unlocked bootloader, that's why there is kernel which hve CWM,
3) always ask in similar threads instead of creating new threads.
OK..
to start with..
this is your thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690 .... in the root segment for unlocked bootloaders you have posted this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183465 ....but it talks abt NEO only...and shouldnt be the clockworkmod recovery after i root??
Seriously man... These noobs keep spamming the threads... PLz moderators close this thread and take serious actions on such lazy ppl..

It's kernel with CWM recovery only, so it doesn't bring up system at all it boots directly to recovery, so it works for both. Otherwise I wouldn't say it's for Neo and Neo V.
Just follow instructions and everything will be ok.

Btw Lone Wanderer has also provided a noob solution guide!
And it includes. 587 as well!
And as for Madfysh's thread, I am sure his thread has it for sure,if not,the method remains the same! Just requires a bit of a thinking!

I wouldn't say anything if I didn't write "for hoooootboot you can use this kernel: and then link to kernel" and yet you still flashed it instead of hotboot it
I also told you in this very thread: It's kernel with CWM recovery only, so it doesn't bring up system at all it boots directly to recovery
Just flash back stock (or any else) kernel.

Ok i flashed it..but there is just one tiny problem...A stupid friend of mine flashed AOKP while we were stuck in recovery mode...now i flashed some old kernel..but the phone doesnt turn on..it keeps rebooting..so whats the next step?? should i hotboot the kernel from your thread or what??
Sorry for the inconvenience...
First make up, who is doing that phone, you or your friend. Can't be both. Or you will end up in this kind of situation.
Aokp rom, aokp kernel..
Ics rom, ics kernel
Gb rom, gb kernel
Logically, right?
As i said read some basic things. Or things can end up badly..
"A stupid friend of mine"... Im guessing that stupid friend of urs was your brain.. im sorry I couldn't resist..
First thing u need to do is switch off ur phone and put it aside before u hardbrick it and forget about it..
Then goto every single sticky thread and READ..nd then Read again..and again..
Then im pretty sure that stupid friend of urs will come up with a genius solution..
By now u should have realised why everyones askin u to read first..before doin anythin..
