So my dad's touchpad recently started being weird. I thought that it was because it didn't have enough charge so I told him to charge it. Now that it has some amount of charge, the boot menu comes up (I installed AOKP for him) but whenever I select it, it bootloops into the boot menu again. The same problem occurs when I select WebOS under the menu. I tried to get into CWM recovery but that has problems too because I can get into it but no options actually come up and I can't select anything.
tl;dr, I can't boot into Android or WebOS.
Is there any guides that I can follow with this problem? I know some things about Webosdoctor but I just need some direction is all. Thank you.

Read the whole thing. Around page 12 there's a good work around if you're having trouble with novaterm.
Let the tablet charge for a few hours before trying the process.

Thank man. I looked at that guide too but wasn't sure if that would allow me to reach a resolution. I'll try it since at this point my dad's touchpad is a brick.

Everything was great.. did the update rebooted gtab worked great. Has always been stock. I shut it down and when I got home from work i hit the power button and I get the viewsonic birds then the tap n tap logo then the n just stays there and that is it has been stuck on the n for hours. I turn it off and back on and the same thing. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you
Have the same problem on stock Gtab.Mine gets to the birds and sticks.Tried holding power and volume up at the same time, but won't reset. Can't discharge the battery because it still goes into sleep mode after 10 min.Computer won't read when plugged into USB.Bought on Woot so a return will be a major p.i.t.a. I am new to Android devices
and was just getting enough balls to try rooting and flashing!!! FML
Yea bought mine from woot also... I liked the stock rom was also afraid to try to load a new rom. Looks like I will be sending it back
hvideo1 and sepder,
You have a choice to make. What both of you have is called a "boot loop".
Sometimes they happen because somebody does something wrong -- and
sometimes like in your case they just seem to happen.
You can return them if that is your desire -- or you can try to fix them.
Usually if one partitions the tablet and cleans it up, it can be fixed. But
that means you have to do some quick learning.
First, you have to get back to a fully stock, hopefully working version. Look
at the following procedure -- which we wrote hoping everyone would be able
to understand and use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
If you complete this procedure and the reflashed stock version works, then
we can load a program called CWM and do the partitioning and cleaning. If
the boot loops persist, then a second choice is to nvflash CWM and use it
to partition/clean up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030042
The threads above give you more info on the various procedures.
Post back here what you decide to do or if you have questions.

I would try a simple data wipe first. Much easier and less invasive.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to send my gtab back so I'm reading both post and going to see what happens. I will reply back (hopefully with the gtab) Thanks again
I'm in the same boat as hvideo1 and sepde
Already tried the nvFlash first method mentioned by butchconner but can't get past the "Booting recovery kernel image" message, just sits there on the viewsonic splash.
Going to read and try the "CWM and do the partitioning and cleaning" next.
Appreciate everyone's help!
lrgche,
To NVFlash, you have to press Power/Volume - to activate APX. It will usually come
up with the white screen and then turn black.
"Booting recovery kernel image" indicates you may be pressing Power/Volume + , which
starts up Recovery -- a different process.
Go back through the procedure again and double check that everything is right and
it should work.

Glad to help. You should learn that other procedure if you plan on doing any serious modding in the future though. It may become necessary next time.
Hello, I just bought my G-tablet and I have severely screwed it over. First, I rooted it and installed CWM, (It went fine). Then I flashed Cyanogen 7, following their wiki full update instructions. It was running fine till I found out that for some reason, my computer nor the tablet even knew it had an SD (Computer found nothing, File explorer on tablet had nothing) coupled with the fact Gapps refused to install, I figured this would be solved in a wipe then another flash. Nothing was different. So I wiped again (seemed to have froze during) but the flash of Vegan 5.1 seemed to have went well... for now. However, trying to install Adobe Flash via the preinstalled android market, it wouldn't install. It kept saying download unsuccessful, for every single app I tried. (no it's not an network problem). Being the noob I am I started following random googled XDA threads on how to fix this. I partioned 4gig from my sd to see if that would fix the market problem. I got stuck in a bootloop so I was forced to reflash vegan. When I did, I found out that when I tried to install anything it said something along the lines of "Not enough space" knowing I had 13 gigs of memory leftover, I figured I'd try rebooting. Got stuck in bootloop. Then followed yet ANOTHER googled guide (droidpirate brick fix) and now I can't even access CWM. It just loads as IF it were going to CWM but then shows me a /!\ caution sign then instantly turns off. When I normally start it, it goes into bootloop. when I try to get to CWM (holding volume up, power) it goes to a useless flash that I presume just fails, then brings me back into the bootloop. As far as I see, I have no way of fixing this...
I know this is so much to read, so in a brief explanation.. I'm in a bootloop, cannot get into CWM (brings me to a failed flash then back into boot loop) and am in dire need of assistance Please help me

NvFlash is currently not working for me, I don't know exactly where I messed up but my computer already has the drivers to read the tablet. when I run the .bat, it doesn't seem to do anything.
Scratch that, got it to work. I didn't extract one of the folders entirely. But my tablet is still stuck in bootloop even after this? what now?

Take this with a grain of salt, as I learned it is not 'always' your friend
Now it's just on the stock Viewsonic birds and Gtablet logo bootloop...
Even after I NvFlashed it... Still can't access CMW.
Any suggestions?
Nvm, I got it to what appears to be working. (and I just about jizzed all over my tab.) Thanks so much. Saved me a beating from my parents.
Thank You in advance for any help.
I have a stock GTablet with the latest updates. This morning while watching an mp4 file the tablet powered off.
Now when I try to power on the tablet, the Viewsonic logo appears then the TapNTap starts to load, the N logo apears then disappears then appears again then the tablet shuts off.
I tried wiping/factory reset the tablet but it still does the same thing.
I have no idea how to remedy this.

Try going to the viewsonicgtabletfordummies website. Read the information there (lots of good info) and start at "Code Red" on "Start Here" page. I'm assuming you are on the 1.2 bootloader if you were on the latest stock update. If you don't mind having a non-stock recovery (CWM) use the NvFlash 1.2 with CWM pre-installed, otherwise use the one without. Follow steps 1-4 and stop at ROM (step 5, unless you want to try one of the great ROMs available for the gtablet! I am using Beastly-Clemsyn and Cyanogenmod 7.2 and they work great for me). If you want to install a ROM or want the advanced recovery features you will want CWM installed. For example, this could have possibly been fixed using a backup created with CWM, or with data wipes, etc without an NvFlash. Point is unless you are a "pure stock" type of person or you wish to return the tablet, CWM is a much better recovery.
When the tablet first boots back up (this can take a while the first time) let it sit for a while to rebuild the caches. Then try taking the OTA update again if you don't want to try out a ROM. Don't worry this all looks a lot more difficult/scary than it really is! Just make sure you read everything twice and don't skip any steps.
Thank You for the path to running again. Tried code red but it did not work. Going to try code double red but I need to charge the tablet first.
I think the easiest, but time consuming, way to recover would be to nvflash the stock rom, or a custom rom.
gTablets are good for being able to break, then rebuild.
Thank You again, following the double red instructions worked.

Hey all, this is my first android and I'm not the smartest sometimes. I tried restoring back to factory rom, and watched a bad how to vid. Basically i cleared data, system, cache and now realize i shouldn't have.
I'm not able to connect to the phone through usb. I have the drivers, but I can't see the phone.I can boot into cwm, and that is it. When i start it, it basically pulls up the LG screen, then a black screen.
I have a backup on cwm but get the md5 error.
Is it possible to put the sd card in my computer and download what i need straight to the card? Im also not sure what i need to download, if that does work.
Please let me know if there is any other info I can provide. Like i said im not the smartest sometimes, so dont be afraid to respond like im slow.

Can you install the Rom "The base .5". I assume so if you can get to cwm. I had this problem when flashing this Rom The first time. It did the same thing with the LG logo then go black. If that happens just reboot to cwm(May take awhile) and reflash "the base" again. That should allow it to boot the phone fully so you can at least use it till you can get all the way back to stock. I hope this helps. I have to crash now tho. I'll check back in the morning to see how it's going.

Are you trying to get back to factory settings or just get your phone running with the stock rom?
You should be able to just put the ROM on your sd card via computer if you have an SD card sleeve.
If you wiped your phone, it's my understanding that you're not supposed to when flashing the provided rom in development.
There's a posting in development, I believe, about restoring your phone to stock if you messed it up. LGNST or something.

The recovery won't generate a md5 sum (known bug). You have to generate it yourself. Connect your phone to adb and go to #4 in the FAQ here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006946
Note that there is no way to tell of the backup is corrupt since you are generating a valid code regardless of integrity.

I tried re-installing .4 base which is what I had originally used. It let me choose the apps to instal, and made it to the "X" screen, but appeared to be stuck in a boot loop. I am going to try and download and install .5 via the sd card and see if that works. I'm not sure if LGNPST will work since I can't see the phone via usb. I will download it and give it a try though.
I also saw the guide in the general Optimus G forums for unbricking it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010624
Since i cant really connect via usb, ill probably have to use a different method. Im hoping the usb issue is due to the computer im using and the original computer i used to root and unlock will work.

The method in that link is for phones that don't have official firmware to use with lgnspt. If you san get into download mode (power off phone ,connect usb, hold volume down and up plus power ) you should be able to lgnpst back to stock.

I'm traveling for work and on a work computer, so the IRC channel is blocked. Of course. I'm heading home tomorrow so hopefully I can get everything back to normal when i get on my home computer. (not having a phone sucks)
Do you all think it would be worth putting the base .5 on my sd card and flashing that, or do you think that wouldnt work? .4 is on there now from my original flash, but that won't work. Just curious.
Well is your phone up and running?
I would think it wouldn't cause harm to try and flash .5 onto it, your phone shouldn't get bricked from it.
i agree with Murasakiii
should be fine to run .5

Welp, I think i earned the title of first bricked phone. It was able to get into recovery and download mode a couple days ago, but now it wont charge it seems. So i cant get it into any mode to do anything. Ive had it on the charger, wall and usb for a couple hours and nothing is happening. I wonder if i can take it back to my att store and try get a replacement. It is within my 14 day window, and there are "hardware" warranties. I have a feeling they will ask what happened and while i may not initially divulge everything, i sadly cant lie. And since its all my fault, i may chalk it up to learning.
i'd say the device started having issues with the USB. unable to see the device when plugged into the computer and the device won't take a charge. don't hear of too many authentic "bricking's" anymore...it can almost always be resurrected. but if the device won't take a charge your time to resolution is rather limited. good luck.

Before you leave to go to the store hook it up to a set up jumper cables and then attach the other end to your car battery. Then just tell them when you tried to charge it that it started smoking and wont turn on any more.
The only lie you have to tell them is it happened on the stock charger.
Im on the same boat. Tried going back to stock for a warranty return, and i ended up bricking the phone. Im able to get it to download mode and was able to run the lg tool but it keeps failing on me. And when it does complete it still wont load. Im going to try to make my self a powerd usb cable too see if i can get it to work. Have like 2 or 3 days to try to figure it out. Or elese im out 550 bucks.

Other option is just telling them you clicked install for the ota update it rebooted and never came back on. They just wipe them at the repair center anyway if they get them to boot up.

It took 12 hrs to get a clean download of the stock ROM (AT&T internet sucks in my area). The entire time the screen on my phone was on with the LG splash screen displayed. By the time I got the ROM ready for flash, the battery was dead. I was however able to plug in to the USB on my computer and get enough juice to get into download mode. Ran LGNPST (v2.2.3) and the stock ROM installed with no prob. You might try plugging it in then trying to get into download mode.
EDIT: now that I think about it. You need to have it plugged in to the USB before download mode anyway, so you won't be doing anything different than you already did.
So I have the tab 10.1, rooted with clockwork mod. I did a system update through settings-about-software update. It took a couple of hours, powered off. Now it won't power back on. Can't get to recovery or anything. The only time I can even get an image on the screen is if I have it charging for about a half an hour it will show the "charging screen" little android dude and the battery. Have I bricked the device? or is there anything I can do. I kinda need this fixed asap. Mom has ALS and this is her only way to communicate with us.
Hard bricking a device usually means that it won't even respond to charging. Maybe do a search and figure out what your options are. I'm not too familiar with this particular tablet but I know there are many useful toolkits out there for many devices and one may help you.
Can you get into download mode?
Would this help?

If you can get into download mode and your computer is able to detect your tablet you can go ahead and follow the video to flash stock ROM and bootloader.
Doesn't work. Gave me an error msg about md5 sum not working. I used all the files provided too. Now another thing is that i CAN get into clockwork recovery mode too, but i forgot to create a backup of my stock. Is there any way i can get access to the "sdcard" so I can flash through that?
Never mind that last post, It worked. I just downloaded it. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the help
