[Q] Full wipe - including system partition question - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I do a full wipe including the system partition I am given to understand that I have bricked the device if I reboot. Obviously there will be no operating system to boot into, but will I be able to get into download mode or CWM?
Thanks.

Full wipe is followed by flash firmware via Odin or via recovery if the file is on Ext SD card .

Ok, that doesn't answer my question at all. If I wipe everything including the system partition and reboot will I still be able to get into download mode or recovery?

YES!!! if you reboot after full wipe you can still go into download/recovery mode!
But, you don't need to reboot after a full wipe, just install the new rom after the wipe and then reboot.
Was that clear?

Not clear at all as above only applies to a flashable zip custom rom via CWM recovery not to a stock rom that requires booting to download mode and flashing via Odin .

Yes, that is why I'm asking. CWM not an issue as I would already be in it after the wipe. To get into download mode requires a reboot.
Thanks.

[Q] ROM flashing process overly complicated. Am I doing something wrong?

Hey folks. I'm not entirely new to ROM flashing. I've been flashing numerous ROMs on my Diamond, TouchPro2, and Desire. The actual steps and tools are different but the basic principle remain the same. It's just wipe and flash.
But on the SGS2, the process is getting on my nerves. If I simply do a wipe and flash, I ALWAYS get boot loops. I always have to go through the following steps:
1. Wipe and flash stock ROM via ODIN
2. Flash CF-Root via ODIN
3. Boot the device to the setup wizard.
4. Flash "abc" ROM via CWM or ODIN
Is this actually what all you SGS2 ROM flashing veterans do? Or am I doing something wrong?
Also if I'm on a custom ROM, I can't even do a hard reset without encountering boot loops. I'd have to go through those 4 steps again. It's driving me insane...
Don't wipe through recovery. Format through settings.

This doesn't seem to work either. I was just on Lightning ROM and I did a hard reset by going to "Settings > Privacy". That resulted in boot loops...
As of this moment, I just can't seem to figure out how to flash ROMs or hard reset without being at my PC. Does everybody else always rely on their PC for their ROM flashing needs?
Hmm...something seems wrong here. Here is what I do and normally don't have any issues.
1. Reboot into recovery.
2. Wipe data/factory reset.
3. Wipe dalvik cache.
4. Format system.
5. Install the downloaded rom from sdcard OR go to download mode and flash thru odin depending on zip file or odin file.

For a clean phone i format phone through windows . In recovery format system data and sd card .
Should be no problems left on phone .
Install stock rom via Odin followed by cwm and root copy custom rom to sd card and flash .

I know how to get out of bootloops. The question is, how do I flash ROMs without the PC (ie, without having to flash back to stock rom via Odin)?

The instructions for the rom may require you to have a stock rom or not depends upon what the rom builder decides .Some require custom through Odin other via CWM.Most are CWM flashes and do not mention stock rom at all .

I'd really appreciate some help guys, I've searched everywhere but can't seem to find answers.

The procedure was:
-deleted all files in internal SD
-Reboot into CWM Recovery
-Wipe data,cache,dalvik
-install zip from sd card
and now im stuck
Please help, and apologies if any noob mistakes were made

You'll lose all your data but do a factory reset and wipe your system in addition to what you've already done and re flash the rom. FYI always have a nandroid backup around before flashing. It's time consuming but saves you a lot of grief in the long run

Factory reset(wipe) is an option in cwm(3rd from above) wipe and reflash the rom and let it boot, this can take 10min
1st check md5 .. it will show u wether its bad download or nt ... and then do this
go into cwm and to wipe data\factory reset wipe cache wipe dalvik and insll rom ..
omega 10 is up so better try omega 10 as its new rom :

How would put it into my internal SD if I can't transfer the file because I can only boot into Recovery or Download mode? Do I just Odin it straight in via the PDA option?
If you connect your phone with the PC while in recovery you should be able to use adb commands
Put the rom file into the adb folder than try
Code:
adb devices
now you should see any cryptic combination of letters and numbers in the next row
(if you see a empty row... that wouldn't be nice^^)
then do:
Code:
adb push yourromfile.zip /sdcard/yourromfile.zip
than try flashing again the new file
dont forget to do a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik wipe, the common procedure^^
PS:
If you don't know about adb, it is installed with the android sdk, but you can download it seperately
place the ADB folder somewhere on you system hd, maybe directly to C:\
the open cmd and type
cd C:\ADB\
now you're able to use the above commands
You can put it on an external sd and flash it from there...
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9300 met Tapatalk
Thank you, all of you... I will try this tomorrow and tell you guys how it goes!
Thank you so much EVERYONE, It all worked out, seems like the original file was corrupted, now running omega 10 smoothly!!!!!!!

[Q] Flashing Rom without SD Card/Backup Q

Is it possible? I currently do not have an SD card and was curious in trying a Rom.
Also I am backing up my phone with Titanium Backup, but where is that backup saved? Should I move the backup to my PC? If so how?
Yes.
On internal card where else could it be. See in app settings or use a file explorer.
Flashing process doesn't touch internal card but it's safer to have an external card in case of bug.
But do not put rom on sd card and then wipe sd card .

Useful to start by reading the basics before trying to wreck your phone .

Boot to download mode flash stock/saved rom via Odin .
Then read and understand before flashing unless you are prepared to brick your phone .

You did the only thing that you shouldn't have done. I've never used super wipe, totally unnecessary to flash a Rom. Classic wipe data/cache/dalvick is enough.
Use Odin to flash again a Rom and download again the room.

However, I rooted my phone with autoroot which apparently doesn't come with CWM? The rom instructions of Android Rev. tell me to use superwipe which the above user said NOT to do? So then what instructions do I follow?
sometimes it doesn't trigger restart to recovery. you just jave to restart the phone into recovery to have it install cwm properly
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
i myself am an AHRD user.first im confused as to how you were able to install superwipe without CWM recovery.so im assuming you might actually have it and what you mean by CWM is the app itself.now since you already wiped your phone, only way for you to get it working again is EITHER to restore your NANDROID if you made one before attempting flash OR flash stock ROM,root it and then try to flash ARHD again without using superwipe.instead go to cwm recovery(up volume+power+home) and do "wipe cache", "wipe data/factory reset" then advanced>wipe dalvik.
Flashing without SD card
Are there instructions on flashing customs roms with just Odin. I don't have an SD card. Phone is I9305 rooted and with latest CWM Touch
Thanks

[Q] No Data and probs with mic

Hi,
I've had a good search round for 20 minutes and can't find any solutions to my prob..
I've tried the efs and modem update route but it doesn't seem like I have that issue.. please read on for my current issue
I have also tried returning to stock, flashing mg2 and mg4 modems...
I've a screen of my current install (ignore my signature)
I'm having the exact same symptoms on the stock as with custom rom
Problem
I'm not able to use any data, even though the data lights are up and running and indicating traffic being sent and recieved (orang and green arrows), I'm not able to do anything via data.
Calls are working and sms, but if I make a call the microphone doesn't work, but my headset mic does.
Wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Hi JJ...
Gone into the basics sticky and refreshed myself, so I understand the principle of what your saying, however I can't find a stock rom to install by recovery only odin... I've tried EMH1 and MG4 both by odin before and there is no change to my symtoms... Am I missing something in the basics sticky?
When you say wipe phone, I asume you're meaning to wipe factory reset in recovery.
Currently my recovery is running the latest philz recovery, is that a good idea or should I revert to the stock recovery first...
Thanks for you help and guidance on this...

Be careful because PhilZ as a option to do a normal wipe factory reset but also a option to install a new rom which formats all the necessary files to do that including your system (rom). This can leave you without a rom to boot into if you don't know how to use it propably,I would just recommend just flashing back to stock with Odin (and don't forget to factory reset after using Odin.

If you have tried flashing stock (and you have flashed everything correctly and wiped correctly) and you are still stuck in bootloop the only option I can see is to try the rescue firmware in the stickies forum.
Be very careful and follow instructions carefuly as it containes a pit file,if this failes then I would suggest service repair.

Yep I agree don't use installer seen alot of problems with it... If you just want to install Cyanogen Mod (or any custom rom) with custom recovery then you do not need to root (only root if you want to backup or access anything from system), all custom roms come with root included. Just use a custom recovery wipe then flash your rom (factory reset if it bootloops) done.
