In Android there is an option which saves your data on Google servers.
Is this safe?
I mean, even my Wifi password is stored there... And there is still this Patriot Act.
What I want to know is:
1) Where is this data saved exactly? (country, city, etc.)
2) How is this data encrypted? (SSL, etc.)
3) How can I access this data and alter/remove it? (web address, etc.)
I hope this clears something up even for other users.
All the best and thanks in advance!

Is there a way to access the files (and eventually delete them) that google stores in their servers?
Namely passwords and apps.
Thanks
Anyone has an idea?
never done a cloud backup. but i think it should only backup your contacts, sms and all google app data.
how to access: go to settings -> accounts -> add your gmail account which you backed up on. And when you sign in, it will ask to sync everything just hit OK.
Thats the only way i've backed up my phone. But theres also google drive which is totally another form of back ups

Click to collapse
I mean, how to access it from my computer's browser (maybe some option in gmail?), not the phone.
(well, it could be from the phone browser as well... but you get my point)
I want to know exactly what they have there, and eventually be able to delete what I don't want to be on the cloud.
There are plenty of applications offering downloading and synchronizing data from sd card to Dropbox, GDrive's, etc.. and vice versa.
It seems to me that only Dropbox SDK allows users(developers) to sync data in both ways offline and online. But this does NOT apply to all folders, only to a certain type of data. So I want to know if someone tried syncing data (not necessarily offline) with Gdrive, Live, or some other SDK,API, for Android?! it would be very helpful for me, if someone knew, Or how does FolderDownloader do it,or Dropsync (Dropbox Autosync) and others?
Hello I have a question that's been bugging me for some time.
The backup/restore function in android says that the data is saved to your Google account.
I know where the contacts are stored they can be found from accounts.
What I want to know is how to access everything else?
It says app data and wifi passwords etc etc. If I wanted to delete all of this data and start again is the point I'm trying to achieve
Thanks in advance,
Best regards
Someone must know

With all the data I'm giving to Google (and other cloud services) is there a way to encrypt it? For example In google calendar I've started putting details of doctor appointments and I've recorded some calls which get stored on Google Drive. How can I make sure Google (or other cloud providers) aren't spying on it? Is there some way to encrypt it on the phone?
You can't. If don't want google to know where you are don't use google services.
you can encrypt files via BoxCryptor before uploading them to google drive!

Never tried it myself...
Doesn't work for the calendar tough.
Hi
I have come to realise that whenever I perform a factory reset on any android phone my apps and wifi passwords are not restored.
However, whenever I have changed to a new phone all my apps were automatically installed for me, and my wifi passwords were restored too.
Over Christmas I resorted to performing a factory reset, I checked that the backups were enabled, and I forced a final backup of whatsapp, but didn't realise at the time was that that my wifi passwords were not restored after the reset.
Then, a week ago, I decided to buy a new phone. All my apps were magically reinstalled, then yesterday when I visited a relative I immediately noticed that my wifi passwords were not there.
I looked into my google account, and there are two recent backups from my previous phone, one pre-reset and one from after the reset. I would assume that the older backup still contains my passwords. I have looked online and there do seem to be ways to recover passwords from rooted phones, but I haven't found anything about recovering them from a google account.
Does anyone know how to do this, or is it something I should contact Google for? Also, am I possibly doing something wrong when performing a reset that is causing this pattern? I don't envisage doing one again for some time, but I would like to avoid this problem in future if possible.
Thank you in advance.
I don't know if this will be of any help to you but I happened across it so thought I'd share it with you.
Method 1. Backup Android WiFi passwords to Google Manually
Many Android phones and tablets enable you backup WiFi password to Google service. Just follow the easy steps below. Then, you can do it yourself.
Step 1 On your Android phone or tablet, tap Settings > Account. Find Google account and sign it in.
Step 2 Find Backup and reset. Tick Back up my data to backup WiFi passwords, app data, and settings to Google servers.
However, not all Android phones or tablets allows you to do that.
