The stock battery in my EVO 3D is looking pretty bad. I was wondering why it had such poor battery life lately.... until I noticed the battery is bulging so much it barely fits back in the phone, and almost pushes the back cover off.
Since I always wanted to increase it's running time anyway, I bought that 1960mAh extended battery from Mugen off Amazon. Pretty damn expensive, but reviews everywhere say they are a very good brand. (Plus the others were like $5-10, which I REALLY don't trust).
Anyway, the new battery finally arrived yesterday. Glad I made it before my phone went thermonuclear, I pop it in and...... nothing. Phone won't turn on. Figuring the battery has almost no charge since its new I leave my phone in the charger overnight..... still nothing. There is a very very VERY faint red light that blinks when the battery is in and I try to turn it on (Didn't even notice until I took a very close look all over my phone), but other than that, no response at all from my phone. I get the same reaction with the faint blinking red light if I have no battery in the phone and plug it in the charger.
I used a multimeter and the new battery reads at around 3.97 Volts (the stock one reads at around 4.00 or 4.02 volts on a partial charge). Even though it says 3.7Volts on the label.
Don't tell me I got a bad battery? I really don't want to have to run on this damaged battery for another week. Are there any retail stores that carry these? I only found Sears but they charge $85 instead of $45 for the same battery.

Anybody had this problem?
I've had my GS2 for nearly 3 months and all has been well. Coming from a Motorola XT720, EVERYTHING is better including the battery life.
Last week I noticed that when connecting the charger, it took a long time for the phone to register that it was connected, ie. it didn't beep, light up and show the charging icon. It was also slow to recognize that the charger had been disconnected. (The charging icon would stay on for some time after.)
I thought a re-boot would help and it threw up the big battery charging icon flashing alternately with the battery over heating icon! Even pulling the battery wouldn't stop the warning message unless it was removed for at least a couple of hours or re-booting via Home, Vol+ and Power.
Whilst all of this was happening, battery life plummeted. I normally get about 1-3% loss of battery per hour in standby but this increased to 5-10% per hour.
The phone has somehow regained its normal response to the charger being connected and disconnected but the poor battery life remains.
Its un-locked, un-rooted and running KF3:KE7:KD1
Any ideas before I do a complete reset?
I would get a new battery to start with, if you UK, 7dayshop.com have an 1800mah for only. £4.49 delivered.

Thanks. I forgot to mention that I've just bought an Andida "2000"mAh battery from Mobilefun. It's only had a couple charging cycles but it's behaving exactly the same as the original battery, which confuses things!
It could be that the problem is effecting it our it's just not working at it's full potential yet.

Even the biggest best know battery manufactures cannot make a 2000mah battery to fit the S2 without needing a replacement back cover, the new Samsung 2000mah needs one.
So the Andida "2000"mAh battery , is more likely to be around 1500-1800mah
Yep, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Will probably return it and wait for the
official Samsung 2000 mAh.
Would still like to know what's going on with the sudden loss of battery life.

Since you have tried a second battery and the phone is acting the same way the fault must be with the phone, the charging socket is not loose or something?
Or maybe the phone charger is faulty, do you have a second to try?
It looks like you should try a reset before you seek refund/replacement.
Just gonna review some of the accessories I have used and what i think about 'em
First up is the 3500mAH extended battery by HHI
This battery came in at a cost of $9.99 with free Shipping! It showed up with an 80% charge which is in the acceptable range of where they like to sit. The battery performs just as one would expect it too. I am currently running MeanRom, and can easily get 16-20 hours of use with some really heavy gaming. However I recently went on a vacation and wanted to run the battery through a couple different variations of "discharging". So with the phone in Airplane mode(no radios connected) and very little use i easily can get a week out of the phone without charging. Again this is without any radios on, not connecting to anything. The stock battery cant touch these numbers. i would be lucky to get a full day out of the stock battery with no gaming and normal use.I didn't do a sticker pull to run the numbers. So I'm taking HHI's word on the 3500mAH being just that.
To conclude on this battery the $10 investment turned out to be a good choice, although it might not be a seidio or something it does more than i expected it to do. I will continue to use this battery till I get rid of the phone. The battery can be found here.
To continue on the batteries,
I also bought some of the Galilio "2000mAH" batteries, I got 3 of them with a wall charger for $13.99 on ebay, as reviewed by many others.
This is my experience with them. So they showed up in the mail and upon opening them i discovered one of the batteries look like it got dropped or skipped accross the cement, im not sure what happened, but who is gonna put a messed up battery in their phone.. So i really only got 2 batteries. I brought it up to the seller he offered me $3.00 back, it wasn't worth my time even dealing with that any further at this point. Anyways the batteries Are nice little backup batteries i take with me on trips. They make for easy backup batteries. The batteries have been suspected to be somewhere along the lines of 1000-1200mAH. I would have to agree, even with no testing with any type of tool, besides my phone. They last a most couple of hours. The wall charger that came with them actually surprised me. Everyone was reporting that it may overcharge your stock battery, which can cause some issues. This charger(as pictured below) will charge the Galilio batteries to 100% with no problems. I put my stock HTC battery into the wall charger and with repeated attempts the charger will not charge the battery past 85% even when i left it on the wall charger for 2 days. I do believe that the stock HtC charger that came with the phone gives the batteries a "better" charge, but the wall charger seems to not charge the batteries past a safe range as everyone seems to be reporting as a possible issue. My issue is it doesn't charge it well enough.
I've attached some pictures of the battery results and of the batteries.
Reserved for more... case reviews coming up next
i got the 3500 mAh from HHI. great battery, even better price.
Yea that battery is awesome!

Going to try this battery out. Thanks for the review.
The 85% is charge limit is what a cheap charger do,
The "charger" that come with the phone is simply a power supply, the charging circuit is actually "built in" to the phone. You can connect the OEM HTC charger/power supply into one of those cheap aftermarket dock that charge a 2nd battery and it will never charge the battery past 85% either.
To make it short and sweet
There's 2 stage of Li-ion charging
1) charge to 4.2v at constant current which is 85% when it first reach/near 4.2v
2) saturation charge, once the battery reach 4.2v, continue charging but at gradually reducing current until it reach about 3% of default charge current
Cheap charger have a simple/cheap circuit and cannot do stage 2 charging, where the charging circuit built into each phone would do stage 2 charging

For those of you who have the wireless charger. Do you notice a significant battery life shortage when you charge the phone using the wireless charger? Ever since I use the wireless charger, the battery life doesn't seem to last as long as charging the phone using the traditional route.

I just got mines today from AT&T. Will keep an eye on how it last and let ya know.
I've been using the charging stand for a week or so and haven't noticed any difference.
I've been using mine for over a week, and I've noticed the phone charges faster than with the USB cable (to the wall outlet), and the battery charge seems to last just as long... maybe you have a bad battery?
also, I found this on wikipedia about the qi standard: "Regulation of the output voltage is provided by a digital control loop where the power receiver [phone] communicates with the power transmitter[charger] and requests more or less power. "
I have a thin plastic case. Do I need to take the case of to charge the phone? want to know before I buy
I've actually seen a slight improvement when using the charging plate. Through my typical usage during the day (7 a.m. through 6 p.m.) I was coming home with 50% battery. Now, I'm coming home with about 70%.
Don't be too impressed though. I don't use push on anything at all, and I don't use any kind of social media.
I'm betting you have a defective unit. My first 920 did exactly this. I would set in on the plate, take note of the battery percentage, take a 10 minute shower, come back, and the percentage jumped from 88% to 100%. There's no way it could charge that fast. Not even the USB cable can charge it that quickly and that charges at a higher amperage and voltage than the plate. Sometimes I saw it jumping from 95% to 100% in a matter of seconds. So I called AT&T and after countless hours of talking with employees that knew nothing, I finally was put on to someone who helped me get the phone exchanged. My new 920 does not have this problem and a full charge on the plate lasts just as long as on the plug. My first 920 barely made it 8 hours with normal use (texting mostly). My new 920 makes it past my 8 hour shift with 75% to spare.
Had to replace mine. White light on the plate came on but no response on phone. Wireless charging coil was faulty... Inductive charging failed and that sucks... It wasn't a bad flaw but when I spend 450 I want a functioning device. Now, I have it.

Hey guys,
I've had my GNote since March 2012 and recently I've had some problems with it. Starting about a week ago, the phone would shut down randomly at any battery percentage and boot back up with NO power (it would say 0 or 1% battery then die again). I've tried switching ROMs (from JellyBean Sandwich to SkeletonKey), but nothing seems to be helping, which makes me think it's a problem with the battery itself. If this happens, I can take the battery out for a couple minutes then put it back in and it will work, but then it will happen all over again. This leads me to believe that it's a problem with maybe the battery heating up? I would appreciate any help with this, thanks!
Sounds like you might want to try a new battery. These batteries don't have a long usage life. 1.5yrs seems to be a common fail point. They are pretty cheap to buy on eBay.
Does your battery get hot quickly?
Does your battery appear to be a little fatter or thicker than normal?

That's kind of what I was thinking. I was going to hold off and tough it out because I'm upgrading to Moto X next week, but I think I'm going to keep this device to use as a music player since it has the SD Card slot.
Definitely gets pretty hot when using, but it kind of always has. Maybe a little quicker now.
Not sure about the battery. Can't be a good judge of it, but maybe it's a little swollen?

My batteries (the OEM from purchase & an aftermarket) both started to fail at approximately 18 months. The aftermarket had the same symptoms you describe; the OEM just wasn't providing as long a life as I liked. First I tried an oversize extended life battery, but I didn't like the size and the cheap plastic humpback. I then bought two Anker 2700mAh batteries & a charger on eBay for about $30. All is now well again, with great performance and battery life. I selected the Anker batteries because they fit in the Note without the bulk of the extended back that larger batteries require.
One point about the Anker batteries I discovered; they do not work with the Samsung OEM charger due to polarity, you must have the universal type charger such as comes with the Anker batteries in order to charge outboard of the Note. Onboard charging with the OEM USB data/charging cable is not a problem.
Good luck.

Thank you, I actually did just go ahead and purchase a new battery, but it was the 2750mAh Ravpower that Shayne mentioned. Just popped it in last night and it definitely seems like my rebooting problems are gone. Fully charged it and it will receive the true test of battery life today at work.
i am havin HTC AMAZE 4G
when i used to charge it before
phone used to come to 90% from a full in approximately 1 hour.
now it comes very quickly like 10-15 minutes
& also the major problem is my phone gets switched off at any battery percentage like 65% & when it gets restarted it comes to around 8% or sometimes even 4%.
if i pull out battery again restart the phone then sometimes it comes to around 30% back or any random increase in battery or sometimes even decreases to 4% & then the battery gets drained in 5 minutes & i have charge it again
battery takes more time to even charge
sometimes using DATA & charging it even takes 10 hours to charge
i dont know what is the problem
i have been thinking about battery problems
but i googled & in some blogs it shows as circuit problems too
the problem is i am living in INDIA
this phone is not official here so the service center guy wont touch it & i dont want to waste money on the battery if it isnt the problem
USING HTC ICS OFFICIAL ROM
NOW BATTERY LASTS with normal data on maximum 4 hours
help me out guys
thank u
How old is your handset? Battery life decline is normal as it ages. Without being able to inspect and test yours out all I can tell you is the most likely explanation for what you're describing is battery wear.
The original HTC battery that came with my phone only holds 2/3 of the charge it once had when new, which is why I invested in a pair of Anker batteries and an external charging station (I purchased them together in a package on eBay for under $30 US shipped). Having the extra batteries has been an excellent addition. I alternate them every few days to more evenly balance how they are wearing and to prolong the remaining life of my original battery. Plus it's great to have an extra battery to use for those times when I really need my device, but don't have the ability to plug in.
Check out the best battery thread in the Amaze accessory section for more details and comparisons.
I hav been using this phone for 1.5 years
tried using battery of my dad he uses same phone.
It showed 56% in my fathers phone
Wen i switched the battery &; started my phone it showed 15% at start
So what could be the problem then?

You're getting the different results because the batteries aren't calibrated to each phone. If you put your fully charged battery in your father's phone it shows 56%, correct? What happens when you put your father's fully charged battery in your phone? Keep in mind that when switching around the batteries neither with be calibrated to the device, but will instead show a percentage vs the battery that was properly calibrated.
Example: the battery in my phone shows as fully charged, but is worn and no longer charges to the maximum. If I place it in my brother's Evo 3D which uses the same size battery but is newer. It will show as only partially charged because his device is calibrated to his newer stronger battery. Conversely, if I put his newer battery in my phone which has been calibrated to my older worn battery it will appear to be fully or nearly fully charged for a long time before it begins to show it's draining with use.
The only way to properly test your battery would be to either try a known stronger one in yours for several charge - discharge cycles as your phone calibrates to it, or to try your battery in another device for several such cycles. Then you need to compare if there was an improvement in up-time or not. Short of taking it in to be checked on diagnostic equipment it's the best method I can think of.
Good luck!
Thank you very much for the reply
Goin to a local mobile repair guy for a hardware check
Will tell you the results tommorow
Thanks once again
Maybe you just need to wipe battery stats. One trick that works is let it drain completly and let it be drain over night and charge it again keep doing a couple of days it may just get better. But think is just battery problem not hardware related.
My Original HTC battery worked its way down to 2 hours of usable talk time. Eventually, got so bad that it barely charged on anything but a high current wall charger. Technically it was under warranty at the time...
Ordered 2 Anker Batteries w/ charger for $30, and not long after that the charger broke. It quit charging batteries.
I then just stuck with one Anker battery in my phone and the other as backup. The battery I used the most is now down to about 4 hours of life on a full charge. The least used is about 8. I try to keep the worse one charged up as a backup in a pinch and now use the good battery full time.
Just how life goes sometimes...

Yeah that Anker charger is the weak-spot in that 2 battery package deal. The damn thing is flimsy and fragile. I'm so paranoid about breaking it I treat it with kid gloves. The batteries are pretty good though. The package was one of the best investments I made since owning the Amaze. Using indelible marker I labeled them 1 and 2, and rotate their usage with my original HTC (which is easy to distinguish). This way when I'm on the road I always have one fully charged spare handy, one charging at home, and one in my handset.

Agreed!
But When I was using official ICS from T-mobile, I had the same problem, even after wiping. I even faced a funny thing. Percentage of battery in bar was different from percentage shown in lock screen!!!
After flashing custom rom, All problems GONE!
