Phone stopped Connecting to My Network - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i was sitting on the bus on my way home from school when i noticed my phone vibrated. so i assumed it was a sms that was coming as i usually have my phone set to vibrate. when i looked at it i saw that the irc had jumped out and i thought, oh well that must be my connectivity. as i noticed later when i was going to send a message it were not going to be sent, then i realised something isn't correct here.
i did a manual reboot in order to see if that would fix the problem, and it didn't
and i tried to flash a different modem with odin and that didn't help neither.
its strange that this just occurred like that and i wonder if there is something with my reception maybe?
or maybe it is something wrong with the sim card reader, it do recognise the sim card though, but it says emergency calls only and that i'm not registered on my network. and when i try to register to my network it says can not register to network.
so i copied all my data from the phone to pc in order to make a full factory reset which would wipe everything on my cell in order that something may be causing it to not register. in my surprise it didn't help me at all.
so can it be something that is bricked?
i will try to flash another rom but stillm something isn't correct

call your provider, there maybe an issue with your account on their server. Let them reset your account before reflashing your phone.

hm, so it can be the provider, even if the sim card is working on another phone

yes, because the imei of the phone the sim card is in is sent as part of of the registration process. If sgs imei has a problem on your account
it will stop the phone from work as the server will treat the phone as banned.
Otherwise you maybe looking at a motherboard problem which may need jtag service to find the problem.

hmm, sadly don't have a JTAG, and i did call the Career network they offered me a SGS III for some USD per month 60 USD if im not correct i would have taken it if i got a working job (which i don't have) he thought the antena was broken

if there is no damage to the phone, then the antenna should not be broken as the antenna is completely buried inside the phone.
i believe only severe overheating would damage the phone.

Network Reject - HELP please

Hello Problem solvers
I am going to buy an HTC Amaze , but there seems to be a little problem with the network of the phone , below i have stated down the exact lines what the seller has told me. Please suggest should i buy this or not.
The seller says :
"I bought it from someone and everything was unused. I put my sim card in and it worked for a few hours then it was unable to read my sim card. My sim still works on my other smartphone, but I do not have the time to find out what is wrong with the phone. I've tried other sim cards from other phones and also did NOT work. Seems like it won't connect to the network no matter what. Maybe the phone is locked or is not able to be used for whatever reason. Everything on the phone works perfectly as new. WIFI, apps, camera camcorder, games, etc. Everything.. Just doesn't seem like it will get any signal from the service provider. Possibly someone will know what to do and can fix or modify it. Can use it like it is or take it for parts, I don't know. Comes with all original equipment: USB cable/charger, manuals, and will have 8GB micro SD card. AGAIN, THE PHONE IS NOT CONNECTING TO THE NETWORK (SERVICE PROVIDER) AT ALL."

He later adds on to his saying :
UPDATE: Actually, the phone recognizes when a sim card is in, but will not connect to the network to make a call or connect for data. I am almost sure nothing is wrong with the phone and possibly could be a problem with the network or service provider.

Has anyone experienced this before? Please let me know what should i do, The price in which he is giving it to me is very good. If there are any solutions for this problem , please mention.
Thank you forum!
Regards,
Hmmm....the phone is like a month old. It is still under warranty. Why isn't the seller getting it fixed rather than take a loss? I'd be very suspicious. It could have been reported stolen and locked down. My spidey sense is tingling.
My replacement did this, I went into network settings and chose network, search automatically and wala problem solved. But still don't hand over the green until your sure.

Could the IMEI be blacklisted?
You have to call Tmo and have them register your sim. I had same prob when I first got amaze.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
it might also be the sim card ... i know when i bought the amaze from the tmo store they said it will not take the sim from my old phone and that it only works with the sim card that came with the phone...

Network registration error

Anyone else had a problem with losing the ability to call and text? I had no problems until last night now it says I'm not registered on a network I have tried reconnecting but says it's unable to. Also had a sim swap with O2 and still no joy. I think I may have to send the phone back for replacement. Odd thing though I still have full data capability.

I have this exact same error, on the same network. Got my S3 last week, locked to Orange. Paid £18 to have it unlocked and didn't work at all. At first I couldn't even get the phone to recognize the SIM so I replaced the SIM/Micro SD tray. Now it picks up SIM cards but just doesn't register them to any network. Would be good if there is an easy fix to this, although it seems like an antenna problem which would be very difficult and expensive to fix since the antenna for calls lies on the main board. Most other parts can be replaced relatively cheaply and with ease.

[Q] "Can't connect right now. Try again later." or equivalent in stock, CM9 and CM10
Hi folks! Needing some help, please.
I've googled my problem a lot but couldn't find any working solution. Below is the detailed history.
I have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300, cut my previous SIM, and used it for about four weeks with no problems. During this time, I rooted my phone, backed up the stock ROM, installed CM9 and afterwards CM10.
About a week ago, while using CM10, I switched off airplane mode after about nine hours and the signal power meter was empty. All the services related to my carrier (SMS, 3G, calls) were inoperative. I rebooted the phone, tried removing and reinserting the SIM, with no success.
I tried flashing the previous backups, also with no success, but noticed that while using the stock rom, the signal meter was full. This prompted me to access "Settings > Wireless (...) > More... > Mobile Networks > Network Operators", where to my surprise all the available carriers were listed. I did the same check in the rural area of my town, where I know my carrier does not work, and the cellphone correctly detected only the other three carriers.
These symptoms led me to believe that my cut sim could be the problem. I got a microsim from my carrier, but the problem persisted.
After this, I assumed the problem was software related, googled it and found some recommendations:
Complete wipe and backup restoration: this was not successful with stock, CM9 and CM10.
Complete wipe and stock ROM re-installation with Odin: also not successful.
Modem flashing with Odin: also not successful.
Firmware flashing with KIES: I put the cellphone in download mode and made the firmware recovery procedure from KIES. Also not successful.
Restoration of efs folder and IMEI related issues: I did not have backup of this folder, but the symptoms related to the problem in the posts I found always included the absence of IMEI. When I type *#06# in my phone, I can correctly see my IMEI, so I discarded this possibility. My carrier also informed me that my IMEI is not blacklisted.
I thought of getting a new microsim to rule out any SIM related issues, but still haven't done it.
Information regarding my phone:
Phone model: GT-i9300
Baseband version: I9300UBLG2
Firmware vesion when on stock (from KIES): PDA:LJ1 / PHONE:LI2 / CSC:LJ2 (ZTO)
Could someone please help me? I still have not tried the EFS folder troubleshooting, but the procedures I found were related to problems that did not show the same symptoms as mine. Do anyone have any suggestion? Please tell me if any more information is needed.
Thanks!
Why not just get a micro Sim to begin with....they don't cost anything and it saves a whole lot of hassle. My guess is the sim reader is damaged....IF and WHEN you decide to get a new micro sim, if it doesn't work then that could be the only cause and the service centre your only option. Seriously dude, next time to save yourself hassle....go an get a micro sim from your carrier, I wouldn't even think about hacking away at an old sim because I can't be bothered to walk to a Vodafone shop.

I have just come back from the carrier store, where I got a new SIM, and the issue persists. I also double-checked any IMEI blocking or problems with my services, and everything is ok.
Coincidentally, a Samsung consultant was around. He checked my phone and talked to Samsung tech support describing the issue.
They do not think it is related to the cutting of the SIM card for two reasons, the first being the ability to locate the carriers, the second being the fact that a visual inspection of the slot and the scratch marks on the SIM card do not indicate a broken or bent contact.
Obviously, he recommended that I send my phone to an authorized Samsung service center for maintenance.
I am still inclined to think it is a software related issue. I will, of course, send my phone to Samsung if it is case, but in the meantime I would like to try new procedures to bring back my phone's ability to connect to my carrier.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
An additional information:
I tried checking my sim through some apps, to confirm there is no damage in the contacts. GalaxSim Unlock is able to detect my sim and correctly show my phone status as unlocked.
Any suggestions on tests?

Hi!
I bought S939(not completely new), which from what I understand is not a device that's created for the European market. In order to make it function, I believe that the device was rooted\modified. Now, I can perfectly use it to go on the internet, make photos ecc, but when I put my SIM , I'm unable to "catch" the network of my provider. A message "Can't connect right now. Try again later." appears. I can save numbers on the SIM, for example, but unable to register on the network.
Also on the main screen, I can see writter "Invalid IMEI".
Thanks!
no backup imei ? try flash stock, should repare imei (i think) - but i have phone with mediatek and cant flash (get error)
Was the issue ever resolved, I'm having same problem with my i9300 on virgin mobile. My phone works fine on giffgaff.

[Q] Is my phone's network connection dead? Phone dropped...

Hi guys,
First post so please bear with me...
The phone was dropped recently and screen smashed up badly.
Replaced screen and thought all was working fine until tried to make a call/send a message when I discovered that the phone had no network access...
Here's the diagnostic process I've been through...
Wifi works100%
Sim works in other phones
Other sims don't work in this phone.
Checked the antenna assembly to ensure contacts okay
Sim definitely reading - able to read sim contacts
Switched to airplane mode, reboot, turn back on - no luck
Searched for networks manually - no networks found at all. Another phone (samsung galaxy gio) finds all three (Optus, telstra, Vodafone)
No networks detected automatically either
No network detected using 2g only
So, if my wifi is working fine, that should rule out an antenna issue which to me indicates a hardware fault with the network side of things...
Is there a way to verify this is actually the case? And if so, is there a way to repair/solve it without doing a motherboard replacement???
Here was I thinking that it would be a cheap, easy repair... :/

If you want it free of cost so first try flashing new firmware via odin and then check it if not then give it to service centre !:good:
Make sure you're using a stock rom just in case it is a software problem, but it looks like a hardware problem to me. I recommend taking it back to the repair centre where you got your screen replaced.
I don't think it is possible without a motherboard replacement.

I think I'll do a total strip down again just to make doubly sure that i've got absolutely everything connected in the right place and then if it's still not resolved, I'll look at sourcing a motherboard through some chinese friends...
The phone was actually purchased when in china, and as a result I had to flash it with an Aussie rom to get the google back in android. It's all worked fine since then until dropped which makes me think it's hardware related. problem with buying it in China is that I can't seem to find a motherboard online for it galaxy ace 5830i (the 'i' is the problem... can find plenty of 5830 mobos but seems the consensus is using a 5830 mobo will brick the phone...)
Oh well, thanks for the advice guys.
Even i had the same problem, but i solved it by flashing a stock ROM. You can try that or flash a stok kernel
recently I also had this same problem, even installing the stock rom did not solve, so I researched in several places and saw what could be problem with the IMEI, I did the whole process of repair IMEI and my phone is back to normal , try this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968360
Sent from my GT-S5830i
So...
I pulled it apart again to double check everything and noticed that the cell chip had come disconnected from the mobo upon impact and was only attached by three copper strips. After staring at it under a bright light for a while (no magnifying glass was to be found!), we stuck some super glue under it and tried to dry contact all the points... but it still didn't work.
However... after talking with a mate who's into circuit boards, he suggested that I try putting the mobo in the oven at 350 deg for 15 min to resolder all the joints as they use low-temp solder on these sort of boards.
I've got nothing to lose, so will be giving this a try when I get a chance and see if this brings it back!
I'll post back my results.
Yeah, and I recommend using a fine tip on your soldering iron just to be safe.

E970 hardware fault? Unable to register on network

hi all-
It appears my E970 may have kicked the bucket. I have been running CM11 for months now, on Sunday the phone gave a BSOD unexpectedly. This happens about once a month or so with CM, no big deal- or so I thought.
However since then I am unable to register on the Rogers network. My phone simply stays in Emergency Calls Only mode. Wifi works fine, Bluetooth, I am able to browse, read emails, play music.. everything works EXCEPT being able to register on the cellular network, make phone calls and send texts. I cannot manually register the network or in automatic. I have contacted support, tried different APNs, replaced the Rogers SIM and now tried a Telus SIM as well- all the same result; the phone is unable to register to the network. Now I have also done a factory wipe and reload of CM11 M6 for the E970, still the same result.
Since the E970 is a sealed phone with the side-port for SIM & mSD, what is the likelihood of the SIM card socket being damaged, or a radio being faulty? I have recently issues with the SD-card randomly dismounting, is this an indicator the card readers may have been failing?
Since the Optimus G is only ~18 months old, this may be the first phone I've ever had that hardware failed before I replaced it.. Has anybody else had similar hardware issues with reading SIMs or network registration? Was the BSOD a cause, or symptom?

UPDATE: While digging through the service menu, I've discovered the IMEI has been wiped to 0. So, how is this recoverable on an E970? Does CWM generate EFS backups?

I could be wrong, but as far as I know you need a Jtag to repair the IMEI. I have been able to repair IMEI's that way.

so essentially, it's bricked and I will have to send it back in to LG to get its EFS partition reloaded? Or is there a method I can use to generate it? The phone boots, loads CM and runs everything else including wifi and bluetooth, it just has no IMEI.
How does a subsystem crash BSOD erase my IMEI anyways? Shouldn't this be hardcoded?

I am not sure, but perhaps a call to LG, or the local repair shop can correct your issue. You can check CL to see if there is anyone around.
As far as the IMEI itself goes, I would imagine it would be written on the box or you should be able to get it from the phone service provider.
So once you have that, you just need someone to write it to the phone. Maybe you wont need a Jtag. That's just how I have repaired them, but there maybe another way. Just remember that google is your friend.

Well, I know the restore process exists.. it doesn't much help me, because it appears the EFS backups were stored on the internal storage, which was corrupt or erased. So as I mentioned there, will any full recovery backup contain an EFS backup built-in that I can extract or recover? I have a couple from CWM and an older one from TWRP stored on mSD. The additional problem is; I've already restored one CWM backup and still no IMEI..
