I just bought an Optimus One and I'm not satisfied with the game performance.
Fifa 2010 runs fine, but with any tap on the screen it slows down and drops framerate drastically.
Is this some problem with my phone or does everyone experience this? Also, any luck running NFS Shift and such games?
EDIT: Just read about some 'touchscreen lag fix kernal'. Any more info on that?
NFS shift runing perfect for me.
Actually any game I've tried till now (even HD ones, the ones I manage to run...) is working perfectly with no lag nor slow fps.
But you have to mod the O1 a bit (custom recovery, modded kernel, hw acc + jit enabled, CPU overclock).
Does anyone know if the stagefright player has anything to do with game performance too?

Yes you just need z4root to root your phone.
It's always reversible, so no way you could worry about it
to get the best out of your phone, you can use custom kernels and roms +OC
the touchscreenlagfix kernel solves your problem about the cpu usage/framerate drop. Before, 3D/HD games that requires touch/d-pad was almost unplayable because of the sudden drop of framerate+lag.
it was a big BUG back then but now we are lucky that someone was able to fix it and now games like Hawkx, Nova, gtracing(games that requires touch) works Good on my phone.
NFS shift actually works fine even on stock rom w/o any MOd.
there are lots of guides in here discussing about the touchscreen lagfix kernel so you should try it if you want a better gamign experience on Lg optimus one.
I'm still wondering though...
Does anyone know if the stagefright player has anything to do with game performance?

Horrible official dev ( Sony erricson ) support . Officially the device bearly received in mid novembre Android 2.1 .... GPU drivers and optimization are pretty mediocre compared to O1 . It also has a smaller screen . It has only 3" opposed 3.2" that the O1 has .
Also O1 already has an ETA for official gingerbread ( end of may supposedly if something else doesn't occur. But either way it will get ginger 100% sure )
And I want to tell you one more thing . With andy's build 2.3.2 gingerbread ( a mix of aurora and CM7 ) he brought a ton of performance to the device .
Last night I tried Dungeon Defenders , which is a beast of a game ( really resource hungry ) and it finally works out great even without OC . As soon as andy releases the augmented kernel with OC I think , O1 performance will be almost on par with SGS.
LE: Also now I saw but the X8 has a pitiful ammount of RAM . O1 has 512 ( 418 RAM available to use ) and X8 bearly has 168 RAM . And believe me it counts . On internet browsers you're going to have a horrible experience.
i use my friends Sony Ericsson XPeria x8 and my LG O1 play angry birds same stage
my friends using 2.1 official rom and me using 2.2.1 stock rom
*both also using stock microsd
how come my friends oni lag awhile in angry birds ?
friends,
do we hav to overclock to fix the lag..?
or only the mod kernel will do..?
does overclocking heats the phone or any other damage to cpu..?

hello, it is not necessary to overclocking your optimus one but in a purpose of better gaming experience in your optimus one, then i think you should.
there is two things you need to install/flash to your O1 basically to improve your phone performance. custom ROM and a Kernel. i recommend flashing Megatron rom, and mostly people using Void rom. and i recommend Mik_os Kernel. mik_os kernel will solve all your "lag when hold screen" problem in your O1.
No, overclocking will not heats your phone, yes maybe it does, but just a little bit and will not harm your phone. and no it will not damage our phone CPU.
i currently using megatron rom with mik_os kernel, and its all working very well. gaming experience in my O1 are fantastic. with megatron rom, your phone CPU will automatically set to 728mhz (not sure, check this in the megatron thread).
heres the link for megatron rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870640
mik_os kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929941
before you will be able to flash this, you need to succesfully install this first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844483
its a custom recovery where you later can flash the megatron rom and mik os kernel. before you do flashing, i recommend to backup your sd card and things. goodluck

If you overclock and use the mod kernel, you will get the best out of the gaming experience. Don't worry about OC issue, as 700-720mhz most of the members are using this and no issues have been reported as of now. Also, the OC depends on the hardware modification and each phone has its own maximum OC limit.
If you feel OC is overheating your phone, revert it. Isn't that simple ?
Well, it's a budget phone (and a damn good one at that), so of course it's not going to run everything perfectly. If you're going to use custom rom's and overclock, please read about the subject well beforehand, ok? It can go terribly wrong, and it does sometimes cause problems.
And the claim about no problems is very false. Both overclocking, and installing a custom rom can cause random reboots, application force closes and hangs among with other problems. So please read into it, and be prepared to revert in case something goes wrong. Overclocking will also most certainly reduce the life cycle of your phone.

True, but who's gonna keep this phone for mare than 2-3 years? Also, most of the time the CPU is idle @245 MHz...
I overclocked mine to 768MHZ its stable. I have a p500h (same thing as the p500 I think)
Can anyone tell me what the fastest most stable ROM for the gTAB is right now? I love tinkering around with the other ROMs but my company is deploying these for technicians and while the stock rom is terrible, I need something that will be consistent and not have many issues. We prefer to run Honeycomb but Gingerbread is fine with me if it is smooth/fast. Thanks guys.
Depends on what you want
I'm assuming since it's for compnay use you have no reason to require hardware acceleration for graphics or videos...in which case a gingerbread rom like vegan-tab ginger edition would be good or cyanogenmod. If you do want all the native hardware support with good usb handling including usb sticks and such I'd go with vegantab 5.1 or clemsyn+caulkins rom both of which are froyo, but are in my opinion the fastest most stable.
wrong section for this eh...
Its a custom rom question, where should I put it?
In general or q&a sections. To many of these in development section bumps useful dev threads out of site.

I like cm7... and have tried several others. Many awaiting development of integration of Flash. Most of them HoneyComb once done they will be rocking. Roebeet's and Illuminate are superior, there has been a lot of people that have contributed to the these ROM's. I would say learn how to use nvflash to restore your gtab back to stock configuration and try several of the ROM's for yourself and see which one fits your needs best. Good luck.

The Froyo based Brilliant Corners ROM over at slatedroid.com is by far the best ROM I have used. Very stable and full hardware support.
+1 for the brilliant corners ROM
Maybe you guys can help clear a few things up for me-
I was under the impression that Froyo roms are the only ones that have full 100% hardware support, since it was the only one supported by the manufacturer at the moment.
Right now I'm running CM7, which I've found rather laggy and many broken features (video chat apps don't seem to work, etc). I blamed it on the fact that CM7 uses Gingerbread and not Froyo.
I read this thread because I'm also looking to ditch this laggy rom and find something fast and stable, so I'm confused that there are so many folks recommending Vegan GE. Wouldn't Gingerbread just be in the same boat I am currently in?
I'll be honest, the reason I've been with CM7 is Netflix support, so I kind of like that Vegan GE can be made to work with the Netflix app. But if Froyo roms are faster and most stable, I'd rather go with that. Can anyone help clarify?

You can somewhat compensate for the lack of hardware acceleration with overclocking. This is what many folks do.

Someone told me this once before (maybe it was you), but I disagree with this being a solution. Overclocking helps somewhat, but more code being sent to more CPU cycles is not always a direct tradeoff in performance. For example, when executing code the JVM has to deal with garbage collectors and other thread management issues that the GPU doesn't need to deal with. I read from notion ink's blog about new HC for the Adam that some of the java GC's can take anywhere between 7-500ms to do its work. The more code being sent to the GPU to offset CPU load, the smoother and less jittery the entire user experience will be.
Overclocking can help make the jittering go away faster, but also cause more of these hickups in a span of time, if I understand correctly.
Overclocking, while very cool, can also deplete your battery faster. I've been clocking at 1.2 and sometimes 1.4Ghz on CM7. I stopped using 1.4 because I noticed the battery didn't last as long, and sometimes the device seemed to heat up more than I remember normally. I'll still overclock, but at the end of the day I don't feel like my device is as smooth as it could be. And that irks me.
Why not just use an overclockable Froyo rom?
Meanwhile, Brilliant Corners sounds interesting but then I have to deal with that whole bootloader 1.2 mess. Not sure I want to go there yet.
Brilliant Corners is simply a 1.2 port of Vegan 5.1.1.
When the 1.2 bootloader arrived, Roebeet figured it would be the future bootloader for our tablets. He therefore made 1.2 equals of the 1.1 Roms he had a hand in developing. BC is Vegan 5.1.1, Mountain Laurel is his original TNT Lite, and Century Eyes is his Gadam rom.
So, if you want Brilliant corners, but don't want to switch bootloaders, then simply get Vegan 5.1.1. It's basically the same thing.
Personally, I was on Brilliant Corners until recently. I bought the tablet with TNT Lite pre-installed, then flashed Vegan 5.1.1. I decided to go to 1.2 and went to Brilliant Corners. I had a couple issues recently (not with the Rom, but the person that was using the Rom) and had to repartition. Figuring I'd lose everythign anyway, I decided ot give another rom a try. I went ot Beasty for 1.2 (it's an Adam Rom) Then, some apps wouldn't install for me, becuase my "device was not compatible." Figuring it was more of a headache, I decided to try Calkulin/Clemsyn combo for 1.2 and it's working like a dream so far. It's overclocked, but has built in Battery management, regulating the voltages as battery life get's lower. It's FAST, it's stable, and I think my battery has lasted longer than it did previously.
The good thing it, there are versions for 1.1 (v5) and 1.2 (v6) so anyone can use it...give it a test drive, you may never look back.

I completely agree with everything you said. That said, right now the only way to partially compensate for the lack of hw acceleration is overclocking.
So, either you have jerky video playback but have a stable device all the time or you can get rid of the jerkiness (for the most part) and have a stable device most of the time.
Regardless, I'm still recommending froyo just because it is the only one with full hw acceleration support.
Netflix Works... kind of

Roebeet has a netflix hack that will work with both Brilliant Corners and VEGAn 5.1 The problem is, you lose the youtube app... which isn't a huge deal as you can still go to the website and play from there, with full hardware acceleration. So, it's a question of what you want to do. When i made the jump from 1.1 to 1.2 I think my battery life went down a little, but I haven't noted too much difference between VEGAn Tab 5.1 and Brilliant Corners.
If you want to make the 1.2 bootloader jump, try this. It is super straightforward.

If you want the Netflix Hack for 1.2 , see here. Roebeet made one for Brilliant Corners:

If you want to just stay on 1.1 and do VEGAntab5.1, the link for the neflix hack can be found in the second post here.

I'm about to get a X10 from a friend of mine, and was curious about what the best rom/kernel for the phone is.
So far it looks like cyanogen mod 7.0 is going to be the best thing I could flash it with, but it kinda bugs me that the camera doesn't work 100%.
I'm also hearing that 2.3 will be officially released soon, but knowing how my carriers usually operate with updates that will be 3 months till I see that.
Whats the closest thing to a vanilla android experience with full functionality?
or what Rom/Kernel are you using and why?
Wolfbreaks 009 isnt quite vanilla but is my favorite thus far. Has some new ported gingerbread features from achotjan and it's speed is unreal. I use it with the 3.62 kernel by goro, doomlords, and zkernel are all amazing. Just amazing all around, and if not that use erickwill's 2.1 ROM. When gingerbread comes out the camera drivers will be ported to gingerbread ROMs so you shouldnt worry about not getting a working 2.3 ROM
good to know.
If you're looking for some extra speed, take a look at Power To The People kernel. Overclocked to 1.2GHz, but might cause some instability, and fry the device if used for a long time.
I wouldn't want to overclock.
I don't see the point in doing it on smartphones, especially when the battery life is already low.
Right now im leaning towards cyanogen or ultima 4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095637
just finished rooting it, now im running titanium backup.
Then for kernel you might want to check out zKernel-failsafe, no overclock, no underclock. Stable and fast. The stock kernel is slow.
Just testeds both Wolf's and Ultima 5... got some tiny issues with 3G band on Ultima and I wasnt able to open the NFS Drift Game in both of them...
Tryed CM7 + custom Kernel with a good response, all of this using BB 67. The only trouble I got with CM7 was the slow response from GPS...
I might go back to Stock Eclair + custom Kernel till the update comes out...

I was looking at the CM7 Rom but was afraid that everything would be slow/laggy on the xperia.
Hi all
Can someone quickly tell me if theres any undervolted kernels or ROMS for the Lg optimus one p500?
Thanks
ask manufacturers of cores, they need to know for sure, sorry for my English
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468792
That kernel is supposedly undervolted. Haven't tested it though.
Also, I'm pretty sure other kernel devs used to say undervolting on our device wasn't feasible, so use at your own risk
what would be the best rom to go to for my atrix?
It really depends on your daily usage and user style. I can tell you that you have 3 options:
2.3.4/2.3.6 Blur Based roms: Roms based on official motorola roms. They are very stable and have all the stuff working. Including Webtop. When i want a Blurred rom, i go with Nottachtrix 4G. Pretty sick and stable rom. Only complain so far is battery life. Blur roms tend to be a little laggy because they have lots of motorola stuff and they make the phone laggy.
CM7: Based on GB. Lots of good stuff and great customization. Great battery life. They have almost all the features working. Only problem with them is that they currently doesn't support webtop.
CM9: Based on ICS. Right now they are on beta stage so they have some bugs still that need to be worked on. We have no drivers for our processor, so the devs are having a hard time coding everything right now, and the deving is a little slow. Currently we have two CM9 roms Jokersax's and Turl1's. They are co-deving so the builds are pretty similar.
Thats about everything we have on the Atrix right now. You better.test them all and decide by yourself.

I am running the cm7 rom right now after trying a couple of them and it is by far the best one I have used. Battery life is great and it realllllly fast. I also have the faux123 1.45 oc kernel. And altogether I have not found anything that works better for me personally.

Nobody can tell you what the best ROM to use is.... Everyone looks for different things in their ROMs... Some like MIUI (which i dont get, if you want your device to look like an iPhone, then buy an iPhone....) Some like CM7, some like stock based.... you'll have to just play aroud with some ROMs and decide whats best for you.
