Hi, I have NookTablet with cyanoboot, and I can root with anything I want and everything fine. The only thing is I want it to return to B&N Tablet to factory stock which always failed.
Tried with attire NookUnroot and NookUnrootTab app, but won't work, keep getting to cyanoboot.
Tried with Power+N button while off, went to recovery and reboot, then went back to cyanoboot.
Tried with CWM via SDCard, factory reset-clear chace-Dalvik-format emmc, still went back to cyanoboot after reboot.
Tried to recovery with flash recovery for NookTablet from somewhere in another thread, but no success at all, still went back to cyanoboot.
If someone know about this else, please let me know.
I've used these instructions to take my NT back to factory: You'll need to create an sdcard wit the attached factory image. XDA won't let me attach the file so let me see how I can get it to you. Here are the instructions I use when I flash back to factory:
• Put that SD card in your Nook Tablet
• Connect your Nook to your PC/Laptop
• Hold the power button of your Nook until you see "n" logo pops up
• release the powe button, in 1-2 minutes you will see a messsge "Please DO NOT turn off your device.....installing new software"
• Now DONT do anythign to your Nook - Just sit back and relax
• Once Nook finishes installing IMG, a "Green Checkmark" will appear on top right hand corner
• Remove your SD card from your Nook Tablet
• You will see Nook will restart itself
• Then you will be see a message displaying "Clearing Data"
• Afterwords you will see a message displaying "Installing factory Software...Do not Turn off your device"
• Once the above process finishes, your Nook will restart itself and then you will be see a "regular Nook setup" screen
Now, you have yourself a Complete Factory Version of Nook; Please Note that THIS will WIPE everything. That means you will have a Brand New Nook just like when you first bought it from BN. A clean and EMPTY NOOK!

Thanks a lot to everybody responded to my question.
As I found one somewhere on the development threat, I got rid of Cyanoboot and restore to B&N factory stock safely, by holding Power + N and restart till 8 times, and there you got it, restored to stock.
Hopefully this thread would be useful for someone else who stuck at the same problem as mine.

I have a Viewsonic GTablet. I have used it very little and know nothing about rooting or ROM's or anything. I picked it up one day and turned it on and it's in a loop while booting...it goes from "viewsonic" to "Gtablet" to "TapNTap" then sticks there for several minutes then turns off. I have tried holding down the power and Vol. + and It comes in the upper left hand corner saying "Detect Recovery Key Pressed" and then "Booting recovery Kernal Image". Then the "unpacking box" appears...nothing happens but when I press the "HOME" button it says "Formatting MISC" and then "Rebooting" then the loop again. Called Tech support they laughed and said send it in...not sure about all that but would rather figure something out before doing that...thanks in advance...remember I am a NOVICE...so simple instructions please LOL
You need a data wipe/factory reset. Can be done from stock recovery. I recommend method I from the following thread...

Did that it came up with the first 2 "Detect Recovery Key Pressed" and "Booting Recovery Kernal Image" then to the "upacking box" for about 5 seconds then to the loop again. Still lost...thanks for trying to help any more suggestions?

Look for the links about installing clockworkmod. Once installed you'll need to try the data wipe and possibly repartition your internal storage. That will cause any data stored there to be lost.

Were you able to wipe data?
Did you partition?
What was the result of each of those actions?
Is the tablet still looping?
Can you still get into recovery?
If not, what exactly is it doing when you turn it on?
No..I put that on the SD card and put the SD card in the tablet. Booted up and it goes through the same cycle. It will not even boot from the SD card. It never brings up a menu to cycle through with the Vol + or -....if I connect it through the USB it never recognizes it because it never comes out of the boot loop.

Well... It doesn't boot from the SD Card. Recovery looks at the SD Card to see if there is anything for it to do. Back to basics...

The first part of that post describes how to do it. Use the MicroSD card version which you will find at the bottom of the first post. You'll need to download it, extract it and put the recovery folder and update.zip at the root of your MicroSD card using your computer. Then put the MicroSD card in your tablet. Turn the tablet on while holding down the Volume Up key. You should boot into recovery and see the little box, arrow and progress bar. When it finishes you want to reboot it while holding down the Volume Up key again. That will get you into ClockworkMod (CWM).
From CWM main menu you can wipe data. Try that and see if it helps. If not then reboot while holding the Volume Up and go into CWM again. Select "Advanced" menu and you'll find the partitioning command. Select it and answer the two questions with 2048 and 0. This will erase everything stored on your tablet in the user storage space but should fix the problem.

Glad to hear it. Hang out around here for a bit and read up on the custom ROMs and stuff. You can turn these tablets into some pretty kick butt machines without too much effort. Just take your time and make sure you understand the process before you get started.
Background info:
The G Tablet came with 1-1-3389 and I performed the OTA update to 1.1-3588 which went fine. I then rooted it with z4root and that went fine too.
1. I then side loaded ROM Manager and was able to install CWM Recovery and then was able to do a backup of my base ROM.
2. I then copied update-cm-7.0.3-Harmony-signed.zip and gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip to the internal storage on my G Tablet.
3. In ROM Manager I chose to install ROM and I selected the gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip and the tablet rebooted and came up in CWM Recovery. I watched it install 7.0.3 and then it rebooted on its own.
4. The tablet now will only come up to the Viewsonic screen with the birds on it and it just sits there.
5. I press the power button and hold it down to power off the tablet. I then press the + side on the volume rocker and press the power button. I get the "Recovery Key Detected" and then get a screen with a box on it with an arrow pointing down and a task bar underneath then it reboots and comes back up to the bird screen and just sits there.
I have read many threads about this but I am not sure just what my problem is exactly. The fact that I am unable to boot into recovery seems to be the biggest issue.
I have downloaded update-smb_a1002-3588-user.zip and update-smb_a1002-3389-user.zip and have went so far as to unzip the 3588 zip and copied its contents to my microSD card and inserted it and have booted it up while holding the + rocker down again...in another post on the subject I thought I should get "Recovery Image detected" due to the fact the microsd has the following on it...
data folder
META-INF folder
boot.img
bootloader.bin
recovery.img
system.img
Or did i totally misunderstand what I read?
Any ideas?
Maybe others can give a more specific answer, but:
If you're willing to completely reset your tablet, you can use nvFlash to get it back to factory condition.
Just Google:
nvFlash "g tablet" roebeet
And follows the steps that roebeet outlines to get your tablet up and running again. It looks rather complicated, because the instructions could be formatted more clearly, but in reality it's a pretty simple process.
Note that doing this WILL erase ANYTHING you have on there.

This may well have been covered elsewhere, but I tried a quick search and couldn't find it, so figured I'd post anyway. Reseting the Nook Tablet by holding N while you power on forces it in to a reset mode. But, if you actually want to get back to a proper factory fresh unrooted state you easily can take advantage of the "X failed boots" which forces the Factory Restore mode. Start by powering down the Nook, then, this is how I did it:
1) Hold both volume buttons down
2) Press power
After a second or so the intial black screen with copyright info comes on. Keep holding all the buttons until the black copyright info goes off and it looks like it's powered down again.
Repeat at least 8 times.
If anybody knows an easier way please chime in.

Quicker factory restore.
If you have root shell access:
At the device shell command line: echo -n '0000' >/bootdata/BootCnt
Unregister device (which will reboot and then do a full factory restore).
Actually, any 4-byte string value of ASCII characters will work, as the resultant value only has to be above a BINARY 8.

Fast Nook Tablet Restore
The fastest and easiest way to do a factory restore is under Settings, Device Info, Erase and Deregister Device. This will remove ALL files one has added and you will able to reregister your tablet.
Correction: Oops! Sorry, this is not correct. See following post.
bsavoy, We are talking about resetting the /system folder to factory (removing gApps, restoring bloatware, removing root, etc) All of those are in the system folder but don't go away when you do erase and deregister. That only wipes /data/

I turned off the nook, and turned it back one while holding down the 'N' button and power at the same time. Only have to do it once.

That method only clear the /data folder. You still have root.
The hard reset method clear both /data and /system folders, removing root. This method is for when you messed up your NT badly.
Bump because so many people still don't know how to do full factory restore.
When full factory restore is done properly, your NT will restore automatically. No pressing n button or asking you steps. Not to be confused with factory reset. Factory reset will prompt you to follow steps on screen.
Instruction from BN tech support
This is what I got when I chatted with a BN tech support. Copy-pasted verbatim.
Please follow the steps below to hard reset your NOOK Tablet. Please note that a hard reset de-registers your device as well as erases all local content such as contacts, sideloaded documents, personal information, 4 digit passcodes, etc. It is recommended that you backup any sideloaded material before continuing.
1. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds until the NOOK Tablet is powered off, ignoring the "Power off" prompt.
2. After Your NOOK Tablet is powered off, kindly press the home key and the power button until the "Read Forever" logo disappears. Once disappeared release the buttons immediately.
3. If successful, a grey NOOK Logo will appear and the screen will refresh momentarily and flash yellow. A prompt will appear asking if you would like to perform a “Factory Reset,” Tap the "NOOK Home key" to confirm. Tap the"Home key" again to begin the process.
4. After a few minutes your device will reset and re-install all necessary software. Once completed, you will have to register the device again.
Your eBooks, magazines, newspapers and applications are saved on your online library. You can download them again after registering the device. By the way, you need to have a Wi-Fi connection to register it again.

magic SD card doesn't work
I've tried the acclaim_update with 4GB, 8GB and 32FGB Sandisk microSD cards after unmounting and erasing them on the nook. Nothing happens. I've done factory restores with the Volume+Power button technique and the nook does reset but the system remains at 1.4.1. I've done it a bunch of times to no avail and now my nook is unrooted but I can't reroot it and block the upgrades from B&N. Anyone else having the same problem. And is there a fix for me?

Also tried the reset method above - power key for 10 sec, the power plus home buttons. Again a factory reset but when I've gone through the setup process, I still have 1.4.1.
I have the same problem as lessilb. I do a factory restore and I'm still at 1.4.1. I try the Acclaim method on a 16GB SANDISK microSD and it ignores the microSD. I had root before Christmas but now I'm stuck on 1.4.1 until I find a microSD that will work. My original understanding was that I should always be able to factory restore back to 1.4.0 but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I posted the [How-to] Quick Access to Nook Tablet's FACTORY RESET Screen for this type of issue. Following that guide will get you back to stock and the home key issue is explained as well.

I tried the 8 time reboot and when power on the 9 time it takes me CWM recovery mode. When I reboot NT now it takes me to n screen with read forever witha white background. I am stuck there forever. Can anyone help.

you should flash back the stock recovery using indierct's tool. and then you can do the 8 times break.

My prime is stuck in boot, it will show the boot screen looping forever.
I have tried the following things:
- Resetting (button next to microSD)
- Holding volume up and power button to switch it off and back on
- Holding the power button for 15 - 30 - 60 secs
- Holding volume down + power button to get in the recovery menu
- Selected up for recovery mode, shows the android laying on its back, stops loading and reboots
- Selected down both for cold start and resetting user data.
This all failed. Anyone got an option or a solution?

Last solution to try before sending it back or returning is to try to drain the battery. Let it keep bootlooping or keep power off then on. Some had same issue n let battery drain. Then recharge it and it might fix itself like that. If that doesn't work, check out Asus website for prime trouble shooting or just exchange tablet. That recovery mode should work though. You go into recovery n clear all caches n data n whatever then factory reset through recovery.

I've read about putting a firmware update on your microSD and then booting or something like that.
Yes, what u need to do is go to the Asus website n download the latest firmware to the root of microsd card. Make sure its the one that matches your prime n country. Also make sure its downloaded to root of memory card. Then put memory card in prime. Then go into recovery and make sure to wipe all data. Caches, dalvaik data. Then choose the option in recovery to flash the firmware. Make sure its pointed towards that file you installed in root of microsd card. It should then flash the revcovery. Make sure to read exact steps on Asus website for prime recovery flash to be sure. It should work after that.
Or you could hook your prime up to your computer. Make sure android adb n drivers installed to it. Then you can manually install the firmware again from Asus website into prime.

4. as i said before, i saw it turned off, so i turned it on and it start flashing the screen, stuck at "read forever".
and then i chatted with nook support, they said i need to do a factory reset (which is what i tried to do before) and they told me to follow this:
I see. It seems that we may need to do a factory reset on your NOOK. Before we proceed with this, please be advised that doing the factory reset will delete all of your personal files permanently, so I advise you to back them up. For your BN contents, they will be recovered immediately after we do re-register your device. Lastly, please take out any SD cards installed on your NOOK.
Now, please do the following steps after fully charging your NOOK:

i thought i was successful. but NO, after it cleared data, it reset the nook tablet, and again, stuck at "read forever".
so i turned it off, and come to this forum to post this thread, PLEASE HELP ME

Charge the NT up and then just let it sit for about 15 minutes. I had a similar problem just a few minutes ago that I fixed by doing that, clicking on all the "force close" buttons I was getting, rebooted into recovery via the Quick Boot app, and fixed permissions.

i'm not sure what you mean, it stuck at "read forever", nothing else shows up, there are no "force close" buttons and what is quick boot app, how can i do this when i can't even see the home screen.
what i want is just do a factory reset successfully, i don't why it was clearing data but it didn't recover.
Do you have CWM installed internally possibly?
If not you could make a bootable sdcard with CWM and make a wipe data (factory reset) once there.

so i'm not sure if the sd works or not

If you're nook tablet is the 16GB model then you can try that .zip but if is the 8GB model then dont try it or you will brick your device.
Your should first read my FAQ - link in my signature (see below).
omg! it's so bad now
i charged the nook tablet while it's turned off, (because i don't want to see the flashing screen - i think it's not good), but i just went to nook support and they said DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE WHILE CHARGING.
so what can i do? if the battery is not good, it will not restore (nook support said that when i contacted them),
so the only thing i can do is leave the flashing screen, so it can charge, that will make the screen "dies", probably?

EDIT: don't know why and how but i tried again and finally it restored. i feel better now.

so why do they say don't turn off when charge?

i charged the nook tablet while it's turned off, (because i don't want to see the flashing screen - i think it's not good), but i just went to nook support and they said DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE WHILE CHARGING.
so what can i do? if the battery is not good, it will not restore (nook support said that when i contacted them),
so the only thing i can do is leave the flashing screen, so it can charge, that will make the screen "dies", probably?

EDIT: don't know why and how but i tried again and finally it restored. i feel better now

your screen won't die just leave it on it's ok, walk away and come back after 1 hour or so (if your battery was very low).

Well I read your other thread, and if I read it correctly, didn't you remove the entire /system/app folder by mistake? If possible, why not make a recovery sd card which can be found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910 ?
