THE LAG! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just flashed the XXDLJ5 stock deodexed rom by Wanam. Before flashing I removed all the apps that I felt were useless/bloat. Flashed Siyah kernel 1.7rc3. Overclocked CPU to 1.5GHz. Overclocked GPU to 600Mhz. But the frequent lags when opening Phone and Contacts is still there! And very rarely when opening others apps or showing in-app transitions, but rare. Has anyone come up with a fix/ combo of rom+kernel+settings that gets rid of it?
Thanks in advance.

go back to ics, project butter killed this phone.

XXDLJ5 is a steaming heap of.
go back to XXDLJ4.

Sell ur phone and buy a i9305 and taste the feel of project Butter

I'm on DLJ2 deodexed with Jkay firmware, Siyah Kernel 1.7c with dual boot to 2nd rom Paranoid Android.
Everything works perfect except the dialer and contact lag. Project Butter is smoooooooth.
Perhaps a bad flash? maybe going back to previews firmware that were working for you might help.
You may want to try Wanamlite DLJ4 latest alpha built with Jkat firmware and Siyah 1.7c.
Good Luck

[Q] Rom and kernel version.

Hi,
I just flash my S2 to MIUI 1.812, can I upgrade my kernel to speedmod k1-t22 ? Thanks!
You can use any kernel.
Regards.
Sent from GT-I9100
Just want to tell you, yes, I can install any kernel on any roms, but it may cause some problems, especially like the 2.3.5 rom.
I tested, whatever I apply speedmod k1-t22 or ninphetamine 2.0.5 on MIUI 1.8.12, also got a strange problems: the screen will keep jump back to lock screen within 3-5 seconds. The phone also becomes very heat after applied these kernel. Only the original kernel work fine with MIUI 1.8.12. Do you know what is the issue?
Its true that some kernal may not work to well with some roms.the ninphetamine 2.0.5 kernal will heat up as it is over-volted or something like that.the 2.0.2 kernal is more battery friendly and doesnt heat up as much.chainfire is always a good one too cos they stay close to standard but give you root and cwm too

[Q] Stock 4.0.4 + Siyah 5.0.1 = no more home button lag(?)

Hi all,
Scenario: got tired of unstable custom ROMs, did a full wipe(/data/system/cache) flashed stock rom (4.0.4 XEN) for my region. After setting up the first time ran Odin again to root with new Siyah v5.0.1. Got rid off Vlingo using Apex launcher trick(or Go launcher EX).
Now I noticed tonight I no longer have any home button lag with only the above changes to my phone. In other words happy me. However I cannot find any suggestions for any home button lag fix in Siyah's changelogs while the Vlingo assistant with it's annoying lag was present at first boot before kicking it off with the launcher trick. Now this used to result in no more Vlingo but still lag when pressing home.
Does anyone know if anything changed in the Stock rom 4.0.4 or Siyah 5.0.1? Don't get me wrong, happy with the result Just curious.
This is just from personal experience of using my galaxy s2 and by no means an expert...
But I never use the stock rom (with the exception of gingerbread) because anything after gingerbread lags like hell on my s2.
The only reason I can think of are the bloatware from samsung taking up all the hardware resources of the phone, thus slowing it down. Whereas I find most custom rom "cleaned" up the phone and require less resource to run.
I don't believe there is a problem with the kernel but I can be wrong!
If you are afraid of unstable custom rom, why not try CM9 stable mod? It has served me greatly.

This isn't about bloatware but the delay which was programmed into the stock to wait for a second press on the home key because of voice commands/Vlingo. In 4.0.3 deleting Vlingo did not fix the lag because it was hardcoded in the stock ROM.

Homebutton Lag with Dorimanx Kernel[8.14]

Hi guys! I'm new to all of this.
I rooted my Galaxy S2 on a whim with the dorimax kernel.
Now I have the following trouble: There is a noticable lag between pressing the home button and closing the app/returning to the home screen.
This effect started happening after I installed the offical JB update from my provider the dorimanx kernel made it a lot more noticable(ICS was way faster in that regard... which puzzles me quite a bit)
What do I have to do to reduce this problem? Change something in the settings or install a non-stock ROM?
----------
Also three other questions out of curiousity:
Can I use the dorimax kernel with the neatrom?(as the need rom comes with another kernel, I would have to flash the dorimanx kernel on top of it after installing everything?)
If I made a nandroid backup before installing Neatrom: would I be able to return everything to how it was(stock SAMSUNG Rom with dorimanx kernel;by simply selecting my backup under the restore option in CWM) before installing neatrom in case I dont like it?
What is better: The CM that is based on JB 4.1 or NeatRom? Is the CM version based on 4.2 usable, or do they still have some annoying problems? <----I guess there is still no stable build for 4.2 under CM?
Thank you very much guys.
If I get positiv comments I'm gonna flash neatrom first thing tomorrow morning. I allready have nandroid backup and saved a lot of my favorite apps with TB.
Another QuestioN: Would I be able to install the Samsung Stock email app from a TB-Save on another rom?<-- I know that you shouldn't do this with system apps(I dont want to reenter the server adresses for my email account in an other app)

I'm Sure someone else will know different but for me the lag was always there and I never heard of a way to reduce it, I've been using an s3 mini today running 4.1 and there is considerable lag between pressing the button and returning to the home screen so it could be a fault in Samsung JB rom's. Try neatrom, as I understand it's blazingly fast and a considerable improvement over stock.
I've been running cm10.1 for a while and it still has some big bugs (hardware composer etc) that will probably never be sorted due to Samsung's unwillingness to release their sources, and the FM radio does not work. However everything I use works the odd game doesn't (real racing 3) due to I believe the Mali drivers but other than that everything else is running ok. Recent updates have made it very fast and for me it's faster than any "stock" based rom.
Yes you can use dori kernel with neatrom and cm10.1 as well, although you will need the 9.xx kernel.
You can use the stock email app on neatrom and any other stock based rom but not on Cyanogenmmod or any other AOSP based rom.
Yea backup in CWM and you can restore it if you don't like Neatrom.
Hope some of this helps

[Q] CPU and GPU Throttle with stock ROM and siyah kernel, Please Resolve

Hello XDAers, I tried searching for this question all over XDA but found none with a relevant answer so had to post this
The problem is while gaming, the CPU automatically throttles down to 800 MHz, Even if the phone is not that heated up. Now I acknowledge that sammy based roms and stock kernels have the throttling as a safety feature, so I flashed the latest custom Siyah kernel, and also tried wiping and flashing AOKP Jellybean 4.2.2 Rom, then all over again installed Modern Combat 4 and monitored the CPU frequency with ROM toolbox, But again the same 800 MHz throttle occured. So I concluded that it is the kernel's responsibility for CPU/GPU throttle. Now switched back to sammy JB Rom with previous Siyah kernel.
Is there Any manual way of disabling this feature? Like editing a system file or something? It is really annoying and I could not find a really helpful answer so far
ROM - Stock Samsung odexed Jellybean 4.1.2 XXLS8

1st ROM to install?

Hi.
My S3 is bogging down, and was going to factory wipe it. But because I've had it over a year now, I feel like putting a new ROM.
I still need to use things like Gmail & Navigation.
Can someone point me to the right direction for a simple install for something that is better than the stock 4.1.2 i'm running.
And as I rooted this last year with the video tutorial posted on here, It was on a previous PC which I don't have so can't remember if it was Odin that I used (If this makes any difference)
Many Thanks
and happy new year!
Archidroid 3.0.2 if you want smoothness and stock android interface.
But beware of bad camera and graphic glitches.
Archidroid 1.7.18 + latest archi kernel if you want not so smooth but still better experience.
It's a Touchwizz ROM but it has a lot of customisability options during install.
My favourite JellyBean 4.3 ROM is Imperium :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37656328&postcount=2
Loads of options to customise through Aroma installer and was always solid and reliable for me.
I am currently rocking KitKat with QS-i9300-KK v3.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-qs-i9300-kk-t2755841
which is looking good and solid as a daily driver so far (I am using it with Arter97's kernel v4 beta 2 which fixes the power-off charging bug where the phone will switch on when plugged in to charge - the latest Boeffla kernel also now fixes this issue)
Both of the above are stock ROM based.
