Korean 2000 MAh Battery NFC wont work (?) Anyone have one? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I just got this battery from ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260899780576?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
NFC doesn't work. I found a picture of the Korean S2 and it seems the better contacts on the Korean model is on the opposite side as the i777. So it seem the NFC side of the battery is facing inward instead of outward when used with the i777 and I'm guessing that is why it doesn't work.
Anyone with a Korean 2000mah battery that can confirm that NFC does not work?
Very disappointing as the battery was not cheap.

I can't be the only one that bought the Korean battery for NFC and extended life.
Just need need to know if I'm correct and NFC doesn't work.
Anyone?

If you can I would try and get your money back. It sounds like it could be a knock off, as the only extended NFC battery that actually worked had the contacts as normal. Also what have you tried to do, read a tag, beam?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2

Thanks for the reply...
I have tried both reading tags ans beaming to my other phone. It all works with. My original battery but not the new one.
Seeing pictures of the Korean S II I noticed the contacts are on the other side thus the batter would have to be flipped to be inserted. This is why I think the NFC side faces the wrong way when incerted in the i777. Both batteries have the small rise on one side where the NFC circuits (not sure what to call them), but when you insert the new "Korean" battery that side faces in instead of out as the battery has to be flipped.
Do you have a Korean battery?

I've gone back to the stock battery for the NFC functionality. I guess I'm going to look for and buy another stock battery, if I want NFC.
I asked the seller about it and he said:
Hello. Sorry for the inconvenience.
No problem, This is a Original extended back cover and 2000mAh battery.
The EB-K1A2EBSG is the Korean version of the Export Privé, and was supposed to be compatible with all Galaxy S 2 versions.
However, in each country, depending on the carrier that does not support NFC.
Samsung Electronics has confirmed this part.
Please contact the carrier on your smartphone.
For example, AT & T, AT & T, T-Mobile, Sprint and so.
Once again, Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks.
When I replied that my stock battery worked fine with NFC and I don't understand how contacting my carrier (AT&T) would help. THen he replied:
Hello. Thank you for response.
Because each country, depending on the version of the NFC-compatible problem occurs.
We do not sell International Version and can not solve this part.
We did guide in the product description. Please refer.
Thanks.
So he's pretty useless.
I have read that others have bought the Korean battery, but never mention NFC functionality. So as far as I can tell if you want NFC stick to the stock battery.

the nfc wire of the Korean battery is said to be on the other side, opposite to that of the att version. Thus nfc cannot work with a korean battery inside.

Yes, seems so. Unfortunately, it was posted many times that you needed the Korean batttery if you wanted NFC. There where even several people that had ordered the Korean battery and talk of having to modify the back cover, but no one cought on to the NFC being on the other side of the batttery. At least I saw no mention until I posted it.
I'm back to using the standard battery.

I have just caught on to this thread because I just picked up some NFC tags to play around with (until now, have had no other devices/cards with NFC). I also have the Korean NFC battery, and it's not working. I'll test the stock 1650mah battery in a few days when I return home from a trip. It sucks that NFC won't work--this phone with the 2000mah battery is pretty great.
EDIT: stock 1650mah battery works with my tags. So Korean extended battery definitely does NOT do NFC.

Can you remove the front thin layer of the battery and flip the nfc wire to the back? Since its inverted can the nfc work through the front of the phone?

Thought about doing that. It's an interesting idea. And no, NFC doesn't work from the front.

Guys, what is the best battery that won't need to change the cover?
Is there any 1900 or something like that?

I saw only Mugen Power 1800mah for standart back cover. Iam looking for some 2k battery just like for i9100, but nothing

So the official 2000mah battery works. Any that have NFC?

the ebay listing doesnt work, and the seller doesnt have any items in his store.

It is possible seido is supposedly working on one now check the site

ya i want to know how that back cover feels and looks, cause thats one big battery!

I dont believe either of the battery covers shown with the batteries above will work with the sprint version. Look at the right side of the cover, they both have a slot taken out of the side.
thats correct. Both will NOT work with the sprint version.

Looks like another Hong Kong knock off that doesn't work quite right on the CDMA phone?? Do you have anyone close by that has a GSM phone you could test the battery and cover on?
I have 4 of the regular replacement batteries from a different HK seller and the battery shows as unknown, is just a hair larger (OE cover still goes on ok) but the real kicker is that none of the batteries will charge while on the phone.... Only on the supplied charger that came with the batteries.
I'm wondering if this is a GSM vs. CDMA issue with the batteries of if they are just junk.

From what I have read is that the sprint version of the HTC Pro is taller. I guess that this would make the battery cover longer.

Differences between SGS II batteries...

I wanted to share my experience here in the general forum so others don't waste time, effort or money troubleshooting or buying an incompatible battery. Do to the I777 version of the SGS II using an NFC compliant battery, there is something unique within the battery and the way the phone is charged. In the past ALL SGS I batteries were interchangeable with the exception of the SCH-I500 Fascinate and it's variants having a different battery.
What does this mean?
It means that the SGS II I9100 Battery is NOT compatible with the SGS II I777. The NFC style battery is REQUIRED in the SGS II I777. If you use a base I9100 battery it will operate fine under any stand alone condition but whenever a USB cable is inserted, the phone will immediately go into chronic rebooting every 3 seconds and leave you wondering what is going on for the most part. The only mode this reboot doesn't affect is Download Mode.
What should I look for when buying a replacement?
Make sure the battery you buy is I777 compatible. Don't buy a plain SGS II I9100 battery and assume it will work. Until manufacturers begin to produce units that are compliant with both (backwards compatibility shouldn't be an issue). This should not apply to docks, chargers and cables and most likely is only battery specific.
I just wanted to share my experiences so you don't waste time and/or money buying an incompatible battery or troubleshooting an issue which can appear as software in the form of hard rebooting.
Below is a sample of the difference of the batteries in both model number, and front facing view of the NFC text found on the I777. The I9100 unit is on the right, and the I777 unit is on the left. Excuse the quality I found a random photo to use rather than take one...
Have more details on why the NFC unit is different? Post them up and I'll add them to the OP to help educate.
Did this post help you out? Click THANKS (below and to the right)...
Good find man.
Pics of the contacts, please
The contacts are the same. it is the internals of the batteries that are different.

Haha edited that one. +1 to the internals being the difference...
great find and great info! thanks for posting this.
i'm taking bets on how many threads will get created asking about why their phone is rebooting when they plug it in?
So if you buy an I900 compatible battery that charges via battery dock connector and never utilize a cord/usb to tether phone would you be OK?
Only reason I ask.....I have this on it's way from Amazon and have heard it works fine from my friend that utilizes the battery on his Samsung GS2.
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-x1900mA...=UTF8&coliid=IIQN5YJKPRZN8&colid=LM1H9GCPJU23
I am using a I9100 battery in my att gs2 with no problems
From my use they work just fine from a stand alone point. I do however have no long term results of what using a non NFC battery will do to it but to be honest during a dis-charge state, it shouldn't matter what battery is in there so long as the voltage is the same which in that case it is.
Stupid question: What about in reverse?
I have a non-NFC UK SGS II...could I use an I777 battery safely inside it?
Additionally, would it be possible with the rightsoftware to utilize that NFC?
(basically got lied to on ebay, been perpetually bummed about lack of NFC)

No, the battery only has the antenna I'm fairly certain. The NFC controller itself is in the phone I'm fairly certain.

I'm using an i777 battery in my i9100 while typing this... needless to say it works fine. The only physical difference I can tell is the i777 battery is a hair thicker if you lay them side by side on a flat surface and get level with yotur eyes... the voltage and everything else is identical... definitely not sweating it. IV been using it for 3 days now. As for long term, still should be fine. But its on you if not... I'm no battery "expert" but I do understand basic AC/DC.

[Q] NFC location question

Hi XDA,
Hating being a walking billboard, I decided to order some replacement battery covers for the the wife and I. I noticed on the VZW GN2, the nfc chip is attached to the door rather than the actual battery like it is is most other phones. I was able to remove it and put it in the replacement battery doors and nfc works great.
The problem is that my wife has several battery doors she's switching back and forth between and the stickiness is starting to wear out so we ordered some replacement batteries with NFC built in, but were unable to get it to work. Anyone have experience with this or any tips?
Thanks in advance.
I imagine it doesn't work because the phone isn't designed that way? Lack of battery pin?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
All replacement battery doors I've seen come with the NFC stuff on them, so the reason it's wearing off is because it's not meant to come off in the first place.

[Q] New OEM Replacement Battery Won't Charge/Boot

I recently purchased a new replacement battery for my wife's S2. She installed it and it quickly flashes the charging battery icon when powered off but it won't boot. I can only assume it's a fuel gauge issue. The old battery still works fine when put back in the phone. I ran into the same scenerio when I had an S2 and got a replacement phone from Samsung.
Sadly, this isn't as simple as plug and play. Any thoughts on getting the new battery to work? Thanks in advance.
Are you sure it's the exact same battery ? If it doesn't say NFC on it it may not work.

No rom/kernel package will be able to get around this hardware issue. You'll either have to make do with what you have or simply buy an i777 battery. They're really cheap ($5 or so), check in the Accessories forum for more info.
The $5 batteries are all fake, and are exactly the same as i9100 fake batteries. They don't have NFC.
i9100 battery is a fit and if you have a normal one - it should work without bootloops.
My phone has lived with i9100 battery for a couple of months.

You are right, the cheap battery are all fakes and don't work but anyway, the problem is that I'm from Argentina and because of new government rules related to importations, I cannot buy a i777 from outside and in my country is imposible to find them.
What do you mean by a normal one? I tried an original i9100 on my i777 and I got the loops .
The reason of this post is because long time ago I read, don't remember where, that with some roms the i9100 battery worked ok so I though that maybe something could be shut off o done in the roms/kernels to disable the NFC. I google a lot but I couldn't find anything and unfortunately I don't have much time to go around testing every single rom. :crying:
Sooo any help would be much appreciated.
Just in case, I'm using SHOstock3 rom, I cannot ask in his thread due to my "new" status but If anyone can ask him, maybe he can find a way to change something in the room to avoid the loops.
thanks!!!!
The cheap batteries are not all fake, I'm using one as well as others. It's true NFC capabilities are lost, but who cares: NFC barely worked for this device in the first place.

Define "fake".
For me, "fake" is when it says "SAMSUNG" on the battery, while it's not produced by Samsung, when it says "NFC" on the battery, but there's no NFC chip inside it, and when it states battery capacity, and the battery capacity isn't even 1/2 of the stated.
By all these criteria, the cheap batteries are fake. They don't have NFC chip, they're not produced by Samsung, they're not even the same batteries - you can read on Skyrocket forums, I've dismantled a true Samsung battery vs fake one and compared, it's easy to spot the fake by touch - the real battery fills all the possible space it has, the fake battery has a plastic holder around a smaller battery that's made to look and fit larger space. Of course, physically smaller battery also means - crappy capacity, nowhere near the "official" claim.
If you prefer other terms, like "counterfeit" - I don't mind the term as long as it stresses the right thing: these batteries aren't built by Samsung, aren't built by anyone that builds for Samsung, aren't of any "official" descent and are crappy (which makes their "SAMSUNG" sticker fake, by the way), so anyone who expects them to match the original battery is heading for a big disappointment. And I used 2 of those too, until I got annoyed enough that my wife's phone can't live till the end of the day, found and bought $30 original Samsung battery. Night and day difference. And the original battery is still alive till today.

I'm not sure of the reason for bootloops, but I'm quite sure it isn't NFC - because the fake cheap batteries don't have NFC either. The additional contact on the battery board is connected to nothing.
I always ran stock-derived ROMs on the phone (SHOStock mostly, but at some point - some other ROM I've ported from i9100), never had a problem running i9100 battery, both true and fake one.
If you can look at the logcat and pinpoint the failure that sends you into a bootloop - it might help.

No problem, how can I look at the logcat?
Here, a dismantled fake battery with marking, suggesting that it's the same fake model that is used for i9100. I've examined it under a microscope to make sure, and even on the photo one can almost see it - the leftmost contact has a board lead left with vias, the middle board contacts have vias, the rightmost contact - the one for "NFC" - has neither vias nor board lead, it's just there for show, connected nowhere.
For logcat, just search the web. You need to enable ADB and have drivers in the PC, apps are not good - because you need log from the boot time. One guide, for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726238
There are many more. Search "how to use adb logcat".

This is the one I'm using - 100% counterfeit but works fine. Does not support NFC but have never had any problems with it. It's cheap for a reason, as it's most definitely not 2200mAh (pretty much stock 1650mAh, or close to it), but it functions well enough for me.
@SteveMurphy
I just looked at the one you are using on ebay, it does not say anything about the battery cover for this 2200mAh. Does it same size as original that does not require new battery cover?
Thanks.
