New sim card question - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I left my phone somewhere and I can't get it for awhile. I have an extra tb laying around. Can I go in, have them deactivate the old sim and give me a new one to use? Then when I do get my phone back, I can just switch it over. Would this be a problem with vzw? Any ideas?

That should be no problem at all.
I have 5 Bolts that I swap Sims around on, just to test certain things with each one.
As we know not all Bolts react the same to everything.
Anyway, that shouldn't be an issue at all.

Cool thanks. Can I get one from a certified retailer or whatever, or should I just goto the corporate store? I'll be around both today but a retailer might be closer.

An actual Corporate Store would be preferred and may even be necessary.
Sometimes the retailers aren't as cooperative or caring of your needs and some are not authorized to give the Sims out without a phone.
(at least in my experience, it's better to go to an actual VZW store which are further for me as well)

Yeah I figured. Thank you for the reply. Dying without my phone (well sim, lol)

The non corporate stores will actually charge you 20 dollars for a new sim. Its better to just go to a corporate store or order one through customer service.

Yeah I also read that so corporate store it is

Went into a retailer since I called around and they didn't have any problem. Looked at me funny with my sonic the hedgehog
Logo when it first boots. I put on a normal gb from for the store but put liquids back on when I got into the car

[Q] return amazon wirless rezound

I just got my rezound from Amazon wireless. I love the phone however I.have the light leakage and its already overheating. Do I.need to send it into Amazon or can I return it at a local Verizon store? I I've read both circumstances happening. Just wondering if anyone else has done either yet. Also if u send it in can u get a loner? This is my first Verizon phone. Thanks
I think you have to use amazon for the first 30 days then you can use verizon. It may be worth it to put up with it until verizon can help you.

Any way to confirm this. I suppose I can call tomorrow.I'm.stuck in class right now. If that's the case ill def wait the 30 days
I got both a Rezound and RAZR from Amazon. The Rezound is great, but I had some serious issues with the RAZR overheating and searching for signal. Called Amazon, they shipped me a brand new phone. Swapped SIMs, mailed the old phone back. Problem solved, and it didn't cost me a dime. Think shipping was 2nd day air.
EDIT: I also tried VZW first, because it would have been quicker, but they directed me to Amazon.
So they send one first... Have the replacement phones been without flaw or is it the same gamble. Might be better to wait the 30 days and use Verizon so I can check it...

You might have the same problem with verizon. It's a gamble there too.

Well at the store you can check.it before you leave..
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
The only reason I suggested waiting and using Verizon is that Amazon was backordered last time I checked.
Send back to Amazon. I just went through this and don't be afraid by the 2-5 week wait. They told. Me that and got an email a few days later it was being shipped.

What if it doesn't heat up until a week after you leave the store.

Now its 100% certain they send u the replacement first? Last time.I.checked it wasn't back ordered anymore.
And if it heated up I'd go back this one got hot.just doing the start up stuff. The leaking lights bothering me more than I expected too lol.

Amazon is excellent for returns/exchanges hands down. I assume it will be the same process you request an exchange and they ship it out to you. They generally gave me overnight shipping for free (even on a saturday) to get me non-defective item. Then you just ship it back to them within a resonable time frame with the included label and you should be good to go.
You guys do realize Amazon will send you a brand new phone and if you wait 30 days Verizon cannot swap in store and will send you a refurbished phone thru the mail.

Verizon has a 14 day policy normally, but now if you purchased the phone after 11-15 you have until Jan.
Wouldn't the phone have a warranty through htc as well? Sounds like ill be contacting Amazon tomorrow though. Thanks a lot guys. Hopefully that one doesn't have the light leak. Lol watch me have a new problem. Is rather have the leak than pink buttons and all the other problems I hear about...

All of them have the light leak at the bottom. It is simply how it was designed. Sad really considering my Incredible S didn't have this issue.

I watched my neighbor trade his out in the vzw store. It's all in how you talk to the manager.

Read a post where someone contacted htc and they said the phone isn't supposed to do that. Is everyone here having the problem?

I'd be willing to bet that it was a CSA who probably doesn't understand what light leakage is. Between my 3 rezounds and everyone I have looked at in the stores you can see the LEDs through the bottom of the screen when the soft keys light up which is what is causing the bleeding. There is no way to fix it except by turning off the LEDs or by lowering their intensity to improve on the light leak.

Went into verizon and they won't take the phone tho it sounds like I may as well deal with it. They really pissed me off though. I wanted to put on my work discount. Supposed to be 22% line 20% data. I called and reviewed online before I got verizon and the rep told me I would get the discounts. The store wouldn't discount my data because he claimed I need to have a 5gb data and hotspot plan. I was never told this and most likely wouldn't have canceled at&t during the penny sale. Anyone think I could complain enough to get this changed? Can't seem to find a phone number for them to save my life lol

Quick Question

I've got my old thunderbolt rooted running thundershed 1.6 CM7, my friend needs a phone to use for a few days until the new battery for her droid incredible 2 comes in. Am i able to just swap out the sim cards and activate her number on the phone without unrooting? I'd rather not have to go through all that hassle if its only going to be for a few days. Any help quickly would be appreciated
I don't know if activating on cm7 is possible but you can activate the phone while it is rooted. Maybe make a nandroid backup and switch to a stock sense rom to activate the phone and restore back afterwards. You will need the new sim and you will need to have them call Verizon to activate the sim. Do not dial *228 it can screw a thunderbolt up big time.
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the quick response I figured i probably couldn't on CM7 but wasn't sure since i've never had to do this before lol. Does her getting a sim cost any money or is it simply just going to verizon and asking for one? I ask because her current phone is an Incredible 2 with a verizon vodafone sim card in it right now.
No that kind of sim is different. That is a GSM sim. The thunderbolt needs an lte sim. You can order them over the phone through customer service which is what I do. Usually takes two days if you get them during the week. If you order on a Friday you'll get it on Monday. If you get one from the store make sure it is a corporate Verizon store or they will try to charge you for it. I say it is better to do it over the phone yourself because at the store the rep is going to want to handle your phone and if you don't want them to know it is rooted then I wouldn't suggest that unless you just don't care.
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2
But really they don't care, hell they're either afraid to root or root themselves (speaking from lots of experience), but they don't like make a note of it and damn your warranty.
They also have no idea that you can unroot and make it look as though you never rooted.... boy.

Although all this is true it is still not worth the risk. They can note your account though and when you try getting a warranty replacement charge you hundreds of dollars for a replacement when they see you don't have one. I have heard of people that were charged after sending a phone in for warranty replacement and they noticed it was rooted.

That's why you send back Thunderbolt dust when you send it in for a warranty replacement

Blendtec
or
Vitamix

Micro sim.... Gah!

When I pre-ordered my note2 I didn't realize that it took micro sim, and that I woild just use the sim from my Gnex. Oops.. so on my way home from work I stopped at a Verizon store to pick up a micro sim, and they wouldn't give me one without first bringing in my phone to be activated at the store!
Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to fly in the face of everything I've heard elsewhere.
So tomorrow I guess I have to bring the thing in to have it activated.

I hate taking my phone in to be activated. They always say that! It makes me feel like they are taking my phone away or something. Luckily for me I found out how to reactivate a old son
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Xparent Red Tapatalk 2
I think you can cut your existing SIM down, if you're very careful or use a tool, if you want to avoid getting your phone activated at the store.

Thanks! I'll probably try that tonight, and if I wreck it, I guess I'll just go in the morning and get one proper.

It just looks like Verizon is trying to continue to keep control of devices as much as possible and for as long as possible. It feels like Verizon really has control issues which is now harder for it to do with sim cards.

Both the Note 2 and the GNex use a micro sim. I popped mine out of my GNex today and had my note 2 running in 30 seconds.
The SIM card from my GNex worked just fine as soon as I switched/activated my new phone from the VZW site.
Well by golly it is a micro sim! I guess I should have waited until I got home and had a look under the hood of my Gnex! Up and running now, now to crawl under a rock. Thanks for the replys guys!

Rattle when phone vibrates

Been having a horrible day trying to get my phone replaced for having a manufacturer defect and the Verizon store did not want to replace. Many calls to customers service and hopefully tomorrow I can have an exchange ready at one of the corporate stores.

[Q] Has anyone had a phone replaced through Best Buy insurance?

I have the insurance plan, will they replace a phone with accidental damage? Please share any replacement experience with BB. Thank you.
Yes they will replace it
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Do they replace it in store? Or should I plan on being without a device for a bit while a replacement ships?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Depends on availability and what their pos system says
Edit: they'll give you a loaner phone if they have to ship you a new one
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Typically takes 1-3 business days. They offer you a loaner if you need, but it's usually a dumb phone. If you have an unused handset, they'll even switch your service over to it for you, instead, and they set up the new phone again when it arrives. No problem with water damage or anything. No limit on number of claims (my wife has tested both). Only real limitation is that they won't replace it if you lose it. Even a baggie of recognizable parts should suffice. I'll never use Verizon insurance again, and now buy all my phone through best buy.
Wow that is awesome. I'm glad I paid the 130 or so when I got this device.

Let me know if they give you another inspire or update the phone to a newer model. My son is using an inspire right now.
