I've looked around and can't find any info at all,
I play Gangstar Rio City Of Saints on my sgs2 but I experiance a lot of lag issues.
I'm hoping over-clocking/ changing cpu/gpu settings could eradicate this only ExTweaks has no instructions whatsoever and I don't want to make any n00b mistakes.
Can someone tell me how to optimize my phone for high-end gaming please?

This high end gaming should be, if your device is supported, possible without any lags and without OC. You have a rom with Siyah at this moment?

Yes, I'm on DiLiDroiD UHLPS, 3.0.15-Siyah-s2-v4.1.5+
thanks for your reply
I'm sorry, wouldn't know any other suggestions than to try this game with another (newer) rom and a upgraded Siyah version, and see if the problem still exists. OC shouldn't be necessary in my opinion.
Why don't you make a Nandroid back up and flash another rom to try?

I'm limited to what Roms I can use because I use Jkay Deluxe Settings, this app is a must for me.... while your here, could you advise me how to overclock safely(ish)
It all looks foreign to me, GPU FREQ STEP1- 100Mhz.......??? ExTweaks really should have a guide of some sort, ANY SORT!
Thanks again for reply

I use my phone for wifi, to download 300Mb roms just to try would be ridiculous when they download at around 20kps (PLEASE SEE OTHER THREAD BY ME TITLED -wifi tethering ridiculous fluctuations, those tech minded please reply- ASKING FOR HELP ON THIS MATTER, which has 72 views and not a single reply I might add)

I have zero knowledge about OC, so I can't help you with it...
Good luck anyway.

I had the same problem you have with the browser app, it was really lagging when I clicked on a link, always took at least a few seconds to load the page. So I went onto ExTweaks and OC'd my CPU to 1600mhz and my GPU to all the highest settings, it didn't make any difference to my browser but now if I'm ever stranded in the Arctic I can use my phone to melt ice into water, for about 15 minutes before the batter dies that is.
Gta gangstar rio city is a poorly optimized game..so it will lag no matter what
So dont bother about this game..
I have also been struggling with finding rom/kernel combo for best gaming performance..and none of the users actually help here as they just want to underclock their s2 and have long batterry life and flaunt their s2..thats it!!!
for getting better fps..i would suggest using ondemand governer..and use 500-1400 mhz scaling on CPU and set your gpu to like 200-267-400 and set low thresholds..But beware this is for serious gaming only lol and will drain your battery pretty good..but u will get a fps boost of about 6-7. A slightly pretty lower setting is : cpu scaling same and set gpu to 200-267..with ondemand governer..this is also gives you a good gaming performance
also..download nenamark 2 and let me know what fps u get with siyah 4 kernel and note the settings in extweak used..im also thinking of switching from siyah 3.5 to 4 but got no time to test lol

I play so many HD games including Ganstar, NFS MW, Modern Combat 3 without no lag what so ever. And I do not use OC because it causes the phone to overheat. I think somethings wrong with your current ROM. Do a backup and try another ROM just to check

From my experience in general, only a few apps tend to overheat my sg2 (overclocked to only 1.4 Ghz though).
Original Issue
Does anyone else have problems with this game dipping down into single FPS? I know there was an issue with this device throttling down but I expected it to be fixed in 4.2.2.
Is this device plagued or something?

Issue Solved
The issue revolved around two parts. The #1 culprit was the Paranoid Android rom, as others have said in this thread. Althogh with just the PA rom and PA kernal there was still the cpu thermal issue, causing FPS to dip to 15fps with a maximum of 30fps. PA rom + Franco Kernal helped by fixing the throttling issue but FPS was still at about 30-35 max.
I flashed CleanROM 2.5.5 and kept the stock kernal that it came with. My FPS while playing NFS now stays at a constant 58fps the entire time.
Re: NFS Most Wanted - Horrible Performance
I've had no issues with it. But I've also never tried on stock ROM !suggest AOKP pub

Ok. I'm on paranoid android so maybe that's the culprit.

Re: NFS Most Wanted - Horrible Performance
Ah yeah paranoid is a bit behind for performance. Also I use kt's kernel and I have found changing graphics settings such as forced GPU etc in developer options causes problems with some games so that might be the issue too.

Thank you so so much, the problem is fixed. Turns out it was the PA rom after all. To think i was about to get rid of the tablet too... I'm very happy now

It has nothing to do with the rom but with the kernel, I was having issues with it in stock rom, but I've been on PA rom since January and the issue was resolved with Franco kernel. The crappy performance is from thermal throttling which it has been addressed in the custom kernels. Been playing NFS MW smoothly since.

Ah, good to know. Either way, the rom listed above is loaded with features. I have no interest in returning to PA anytime soon.

In was having terrible issues on cm10 with stock kernel. After installing ktoonez and bumping the CPU to 1900mhz and the GPU to max (600mhz I think) I'm having perfect performance

That is most definitely one of the problems. While you can have FPS issues, the PA ROM has really bad input lag so the game feels like it is lagging much more than it really is.

Because it makes the game run much slower all the time?
I'm not trying to advertise, but NFS runs completely lag free in my latest ROM. If you're having troubles, it might be worth giving SentinelROM a try.
Stock ROM here and no issues what do ever, works more than fine with no lag.
IDK man..

That may work for a couple games but that is not really a "fix" for poor performance. It will actually slow this game down even more and the AA isn't even being applied to most surfaces so it is a complete waste.
One tweak that will net you better performance in both real-time gaming and benchmarks is to reduce vm.min_free_kbytes value in the sysctl.conf file (which is found in system/etc ) It is usually set to vm.min_free_kbytes=32768 or 16384 and this is not really necessary. Change the value to either 8192 or 4096 and it will give you a few extra FPS for FREE. (No loss of graphics quality or any other negative drawbacks)

This is all I have in that file...
vm.dirty_ratio = 90
vm.oom_kill_allocating_task = 0
vm.swappiness = 0
vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 20
I am using pub aokp and ktmanta if that makes a difference
Have you tried it?

I thought the entire tread was about NFS most wanted and it's bad performance, Have you turned on Force 4X MSAA & played NFS MW or is this just speculating?

Add the line, it is hard coded into the kernel. Use 8192.

Yes I have tried it, it made it even slower and MSAA wasn't even being applied, and I am not just referring to transparency or sprites. I have been doing this for a long time and I can tell you that if MSAA makes something run faster then the game is horribly programmed to begin with. You are the one speculating my friend.
Hello good people of xda, and sorry for disturbing you.
My question for you is as following: Is there any way to overclock your S3? Overclock as in squeeze that extra juice from the hardware in order to run games much smoother without frames droping and what not. (i.e Real Racing 3)
..
Very helpfull reply...

Overclocking is a kernel function - read up in the dev threads and all the kernels have to offer - though OC'ing comes with it's issues! BE CAREFUL!

you will need a custom kernel like Perseus , with that you will have an extra app called Stweaks which will let you overclock. i have successfully overclocked to 1704mhz with that.

Hello I bought a Chinese cell, Mlais MX58 Air, but its UI is limited to 32 FPS, is there any way to unlock or limit to 60 FPS?
Could do this by modifying the kernel? You can modify a kernel or pick up another device and add my information?
I would try to use this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249808

You would have to use a kernel made for that device. Another kernel from a different device will not work on yours But as China almost never releases the kernel source for their devices you maybe out of luck.

That's is a chipset. Not the kernel. They are 2 completely different things.

To be honest yes. You are better off not getting a clone device or anything really with that chipset as it is mostly never supported after bought and has no after market support.
Understand... than you know any launcher that runs at 60 fps?
Because this is the only thing that bugs me.
Thanks for the replies man.
I dont think launchers change the fps but try out Apex Launcher for a smoother experience.
