Back cover flex - sounds cheap - Nexus 10 General

Really like the N10 but this makes build quality seem a little shoddy.
It's annoying to hear the click every time its re-positioned in my hands.

Might just be a defective unit, mine doesn't do that at all.

I hope so.
I'd like more people chime in and let me know if it's worth the RMA or something really common with a lot of them.

If i was you I would call google mine doesn't do that either, very solid build here

Mines fine here too

This wouldn't bother me anyway tbh. I'm concerned about bad backlight bleed.

Same here, no flex.

You press on your car hood and it's going to dimple and make noise too. Are you going to RMA it too?

it's irritating simply because its noticeable every time you switch hands or re-position the N10 in your hands--something you do often while holding a 10" slab of glass that weighs over a pound for an extended period of time.
If the hood on my car made a sound every time i turned i would probably RMA it too.
I'll be honest though, i am torn on a RMA because i think a lot of people return too many items driving up the cost for everyone. I'd never return something because the screen looks uneven with a pure black image in a completely dark room because it's something i'd never notice in regular use.
If it was just flex i wouldn't give a crap but the sound however is hard to ignore when reading or browsing the web in a quiet environment.

Is not uneven, it's areas of the screen that are much brighter than others on a black screen.
You would notice it in normal usage if your planning on watching dark videos on it.
I agree, slight bleed is ok because you won't notice it at a lower brightness level in the dark.
However bad backlight bleed where a reasonably big portion of the screen is alot brighter than the rest would be very distracting whilst watching a dark film.

I have a bit a flex (well, its not flex, more like its hollow underneath) right around the 'S' area of the Nexus. But i dont care.

I have a little bit of flex around the U, but it doesn't bother me at all. To me, it feels solidly build, although the Infinity feels much more sturdy.

What made you think I was complaining anyway? I'm just giving an example of how bad backlight bleed can be distracting...

No flex here.

If I really push I get a slight click. As I don't push on the back of my device with force too often I'm not seeing it as a problem.
I was more concerned about dead pixels. I have none, I do have some light bleed though but since its only noticeable in the dark when I have brightness up maybe 25% its not a problem as it is only noticeable at 100% brightness
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

I noticed today I have this flex in the back too. I also have some bleed in both bottom corners and a small amount at the top. None of this is really bad enough to bother me that much. I was just wondering if there could be any correlation between this flex and light bleed. Anyone that doesn't have the flex, do you have light bleed?

Mine just came in about an hour ago. The little bit of light bleed I can live with, but the back cover looks like somebody stepped on it in the middle, there is significant bowing, and associated creaking and popping.
Already processed an RMA with Google, replacement should be on the way.
But other than that, this thing rocks so far.

Bro, do the RMA. That's not normal, on mine there's a slight give when firm pressure is applied. It feels natural though, like that's what's supposed to happen when that much pressure is applied. You definitely can't feel any play or hear any clicking noises while handling it. I get that your trying to be considerate and everything but there's a limit, you paid good money for the device, don't sell yourself short.

If you can take the back off, maybe you can take a hairdryer to it and gently melt it flat. Can't say I know anyone who's tried this though, just a random thought

Moto Razr Screen defect...

Hi, i got me a razr 3 days ago and was very happy with it.
But, as i happend to use the phone in the dark, i notised that when the screen brightnes was set to low there was ALOT off black marks under the screen. right then and there it lokked like water damage. but thees mark wherent noticable when in a light room or screen bright* set higher.
so i went back to the store and got a new one, but soon noticed the same defect in the new phone.
Anyone else have this problem?

I have had the phone for just 24 hours and already noticed this problem with the screen. I will return it tomorrow and hopefully get one with a "better screen". The spots aren't the worst but I have a line straight down the whole screen. I have a pic but to new to post it.

As faced by spooner427. I am posting this image for him on request.
Thanks circleofomega for posting the pic
Yes, I have this problem too. I returned the phone for exchange
I had the black splotches on my Razr screen as well. I took it in and Verizon replaced it. Got it home and tested it and there is no more black splotches. I did notice a little bit of the "some areas are darker than others" but for the most part it is not noticeable at all.
I had this problem on my SGS2....replaced the screen 4times...still not solved! finally getting a refund from Samsung... was considering the droid razr well... but after reading this.... *packs my bags and runs*
I did get the phone replaced and was able to find one with alot cleaner of a screen and I only looked threw 3 phones they brought out. I had a diagonal line threw the screen. Either way the phone itself is great just glad Verizon actually cares about customer.
"The RAZR display uses a new high efficiency OLED material. These screens may in some cases exhibit slightly darker regions, like you've noticed. Because the darker regions are only visible when viewing the black screen in a very dark environment, they will not interfere with general use. Most importantly, they don't change over time and are typical for this generation of OLED material. They in no way indicate a problem or defective screen."

Try switching it for a new phone. If you encounter enough models with a substantial amount of artifacts, Verizon will offer you an exchange for another phone model.

I did swap it out at Verizon. They brought out a bunch of Razrs and I hid under a coat and started them up and checked the boot screen for marks. By the 3rd phone I found one with a pretty clean screen, only had a few small spots at the bottom barely noticeable.

LOL! I stole your idea from another forum where you posted the pic your girl took of you under a jacket.
So I went into Verizon and after a bit of persistence I got the rep to let me swap out my phone. He even let me go to the back area and turned off the lights for me. I still used a jacket since the ambient lighting from the store was still interfering with visibility.
I tried the first phone he brought out and it looked pretty bad, so I asked if he could bring out another. The second phone he brought out barely had any marks on it!
Needless to say I swapped out the phones and was very happy. I will be visiting the same store soon to purchase an accessory bundle from the same rep.
BTW thanks Spooner for your previous info about the reps letting you boot up and check the phones.
Don't believe Motorola's explanation... so disappointed due to this issue. Can't find anymore info than what has already been said.
Just probably going to return the phone and get out while I'm ahead.
I called Verizon, and no one knew what I was talking about. Went to the store, and no one knew what I was talking about. Took the phone back today for the Galaxy Nexus, and I couldn't be happier. See you guys later.

Surely this can be fixed with an update to give an option for colour temperature though...
Make sure yours is not in econo mode. It takes all the pretty colors away and places a pee looking filter on everything. (but hey it does save some power )
According to one review I read, the prime is "Brighter, blacker blacks, decreased glare, and less backlight bleed on the Prime."

My screen isnt that yellow... The colors are ok but my touchpad is on par with it. Backlight bleed is still an issue with the Prime, just hope your one of the lucky ones with no bleed.
I have backlight bleed but its not too bad, i can deal with it.
I usually just run my prime with the lowest brightness setting with super ips mode turned on... Looks good and also saves power (i get good battery), plus i can perfectly see the screen in any condition unless im at the beach...
Could someone make some screen pictures of the 1st gen Transformer next to the Prime? I'm really curious how these compare colour wise.
Hey, this is really similar to the issue the iPad and iPhone had in the beginning.
iPad 2 News: What’s That Yellow Blotch On The iPad 2 Screen
Put simply, that means the glue holding the glass together is not completely dry. So if your iPad 2 is suffering from a case of yellow fever, don’t rush back to the store and try to exchange it. (Good luck with that, since waiting times for delivery of new units are now 2-3 weeks.) Just use it for a few days and the blotch should disappear, just like those on the iPhone 4.

I got my Prime yesterday, the first thing I noticed is the screen are very yellowish comparing to my old TF101.
I did took a few pictures but coz I'm a newbie I can't post links in my reply, if anyone wants to see it I can PM you the link or helping me post the links.
I was able to get two Primes. One from gamestop and one from Adorama. The grey one from amazon had a yellowish tint and made the gold one from adorama look amazing in comparison . They both have light leakage but I can only see it during bootup. imo if you are unhappy with the colors of the screen then send it back and pray for a better one. I think from now on I'm going to buy more than one and keep the better of the two. I also think the wifi is a little better on the gold one, but both are weak in comparison to my galaxy 10.1. I do find the prime to be a bit faster and smoother than the Samsung . I think the first thing anyone should install is thumbs keyboard best AP by a long shot.
I might be going crazy, but it does seem like the yellow on my 5 day old prime is slowly going away.
Maybe its the same issue the iphone 4/4s had where the glue has to dry? I know my 4s was yellow when I got it but now I dont see any yellow.
I think it has more to do with color temperature than anything. I get headaches staring at overly cool temps, so a yellow tint actually ends up being a bit of a plus in my book...

Agreed. Samsung is notorious for very cold screens. The screen on my Epic 4G Touch is downright blue, particularly noticeable when reading ebooks. By contrast, the screen on my Motorola Photon is much warmer and hence whites are better. Given a choice between a bit of a blue bias and a little yellow, and I'll take the latter any day.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Is the screen made by multiple manufacturers? With my HTC Sensation, Sharp makes some of the panels, and AUO makes the rest, and the Sharp panels are by far better than the yellowish AUO panels. Just throwing out a possible explanation.
Got my 32gb champagne Prime today. And also noticed the yellow screen. Don't know what store it came from because I bought it for ebay.
Coming from a Galaxy tab 10.1 and can compare them side by side the Prime is yellow and Galaxy tab is white.
Had a Motorola Xoom before and that also had this yellow stuff, not as much Prime but it was there.
Maybe I noticed the yellow more now because I coming from Samsung white screens.
Hopes it gets better with time because I have no chance to go and change it because it bought over ebay. Maybe it's the clue hat someone mentioned, may tab has been out on a journey over the seas and is cold and tiered so maybe when it have got som warm and rest it will perform better

Backlighting issue

Has anyone noticed that the bottom edge of your DNA has a slight 1-2mm shadowy area where the backlight is dim as well as random areas along the sides (this is not the capacitive light bleed which most units all have, which I don't consider a big deal)? I've had numerous replacements and all have exhibited these issues including a few Verizon store units. I find it surprising that this hasn't been reported upon in any reviews. It's fairly annoying on white and light colors, the majority of what I use the phone for (side-by-side with my 4s, the 4s has even lighting to the edges). I also checked out the HTC One in an AT&T store and couldn't see these issues, so it looks DNA rather than HTC specific.
It's a bit hard to make out from pictures, but it is visible.

that sucks you must be getting bad batches. Here's a pic of mine attached below, also I am extremely near sighted to the point where i can see the pixels on this phone no problem taking off my glasses and getting close. If the top of that pick is the bottom of the phone, then I can see the dim area, but you're right about the sides looking uniform. I wonder if the refurbishment process introduces issues along the long sides.

Yeah, man; it's a curse. I'm one of those who notices the digitizer when the display is on as well.
Because of those lights, I think the top 1/8 of the screen is a bit brighter than the rest as well, especial if you're viewing in landscape. If you do the same on the bottom, you see nothing, like they didn't put any LEDs there. The inconsistency I've noticed along the sides isn't the exact same between any two phones (I've had a number of replacements mostly due to other issues). I bothers me pretty much any time I use the browser, maps app, texting, or anything like that, but I think i'm slowly getting used to it. From what I can tell of hands on time with the HTC One, it looks like they've mostly avoided this in that model, if not because of a larger bezel to hide the diffuser/LEDs in.

Can someone confirm about bleeding light on the left edge/corner of the 2nd screen?

Im about to buy a V10 but I has heard about bleeding light on the left edge/corner of the 2nd screen. Is it happen on all the v10 or just some and I can exchange for a new one if it happen to me?
It's all of them...is only noticeable really when the screen is off in a dark room....not a deal breaker for me...this phone is awesome!
Well, its an issue on all v10s, and personally I don't mind it. It winds up looking like a gradient from the top right corner that occupies roughly 5-10% of the main screen, with no line or anything between the first screen and the second screen. I would take a pic for you, but I don't have a camera that can pick it up. What you could do is go into a store and cover the phone with like a jacket or something and look under there while its off to see if you have an issue with it.

As the others have said, it's definitely there. It all boils down to personal preferences - it's definitely there on mine and it can be a little annoying at times but I love the phone enough to overlook it. Just basically becomes what you're willing to look the other way on.
Mine has the light bleed ... but it's only noticeable in a dark room when the screen goes dark - then for the next 30 seconds the second screen stays lit and you see the light bleed. Once the 30 seconds passes, the second screen dims and the light bleed is nearly impossible to see.
3 of my associates have this phone and 2 of them do not have any light bleed at all. It doesn't seem to matter if it's an AT&T or Verizon version - some have no bleed, some do.
It shouldn't bother you. Then again, if you're anything like one of my OCD associates, it might make you insane, as he returned 2 of them till he got one that didn't have any bleed.
Mine has it too. I don't think it's a deal-breaker but you will notice it in a completely dark room.
Here's a photo showing it.

This was taken in a completely dark room with a 10 second exposure, at pretty much the worst angle for seeing the bleed.
I can see it on mine in a dark room only. Doesn't bother me one bit
I've gone through 3 devices. The first two were both from an 11/15 batch of phones, and had very noticeable light bleed, with one even having some on the upper left of the main screen as well. On these phones, you could notice it even with lights on as the icon on the left of the second screen was noticeably brighter/more vivid than the rest of the icons, which looked pale and washed out. The third phone is from a 12/15 batch, and is much better. It shows a slight bit of bleed like the picture in the post above, but none on the main screen. The light bleed it does have is really only able to be seen at night in a dark room. Otherwise you can't tell at all and that screen's blacks are just as inky black as the rest of the screen.
LoL. yea i noticed it too. reminds me of my very old CASIO watches when u press the light button to see the digital screen at night. However, not a deal breaker at all. i barely notice it every now and then

The third phone is from a 12/15 batch, and is much better. It shows a slight bit of bleed like the picture in the post above, but none on the main screen. The light bleed it does have is really only able to be seen at night in a dark room. Otherwise you can't tell at all and that screen's blacks are just as inky black as the rest of the screen.

how do you know the batch of the phone?
i also notice the light when i looking direct/normal at the screen should I get replacement? i just got it today kind of sad i talk to LG about it they say should I get new phone at the store apparently is a known issue for them
Mine has it also but it is visible only in completely dark room with main screen off and second screen is bright. If both screens are on or second screen is dim (i use auto brightness so this is the case most of the time) it is not visible. It does not annoy me at all. Now i use nillkin leather quick cover case so it is not visible at all because main screen turns on automatically by opening the cover.

Is my screen faulty?

Hello all,
Last night I watched a show on my tablet in total darkness and noticed some weird banding which I thought was caused by the video itself but then I checked with the other apps and it was clear that it wasn't the video but the screen itself. Is my tab screen faulty? It's just over 3 weeks old for God's sake! Is anyone else experiencing the same issue or am I the only one?

those look like window reflections. Make a drawing, fill the entire screen with solid black, do you still see the banding? Do you have blue light filter on? If you still see it and you don't have any filters and you're sure it's not reflections, return it.
At low Brightness with night mode on mine is a bit patchy but yours seems worse. If it bothers you I would exchange and see if you get better luck next time
mine is solid black no pathing
That looks faulty

Hi guys. Thanks for your comments. I tried disabling the blue light filter. Also, it was pitch black in the room with no reflection anywhere.
Spoke with Samsung and it's going to be replaced.

Lowest brightness with blue light filter on ?
Can't help you as far as the screen is concerned, but nice choice about watching Succession, season 2 has been great.

Lowest brightness yes. Blue light no. I never use that. I surely would never use with video
I watch on mine in dark, complete black the screen is, no bleed etc.
Return it.
Hmmm I'm noticing similar to mine now even without blue light filter and normal brightness
Hey guys. Just an update. It's a bit of a long story but the tl;dr version is that I have got a new Tab S6 today and guess what? The same screen-bleed issue but on a different part of the screen.

I phoned the Samsung shop team and they were extremely helpful and arranged a replacement. However, I am very disappointed with the quality control. Does anyone know how I can raise this with Samsung so that something would be done at a higher level i.e. maybe there is a faulty batch or something?
Is that right from a factory reset without installing or restoring any apps? I have to wonder at this point if it's some software, These are amoled screens, there shouldn't be any bleed, there's no backlight. While some pixels can definitely fail what you're seeing on 2 tablets seems highly unlikely not random across the screen. Only other thing I can think of is you have something putting undue pressure on parts of the screen.

No. The pictures above are of the replacement tablet. I hadn't had the chance to transfer my settings or anything so it's factory formatted. All I did was turn on night mode at night and start the dialer app as well as other Samsung apps. Even the keyboard is brighter on one side than the other. I asked the other half to look and point out anything odd and she spotted it straightaway.
The tablet was literally out of the box. Barely stayed out of the box for an hour and there was nothing else pressed against it at all.

It's not bleed it's just uneven tints on the screen, very common and annoying as heck.
wow I've never seen anything like that on an oled or amoled screen. I have the S2,S3, S4, note 8, note 10+ and LG Oled and never seen anything even close.
What you have with the white, doesn't surprise me as much as the black as with black the pixels should be OFF.
The mate 20 pro was plagued with green screens like that. I believe they were lg oleds

By the way it's not pure black backgrounds, more dark greys, mine is similar and I believe they will all have it to some degree, seems to be a short coming with oled..it's only noticeable when displaying certain types of greys, at very low brightness, even worse with blue light filter on
Somewhat similar to what I'm experiencing, uneven black levels from corner to corner.
I'll try and get a replacement from the retailer, they give 30 days to return items so it shouldn't be an issue hopefully.
It's not awful, but once you notice it, you always notice it.
I have also the same, verry annoying. And for that price i espect something that works.
