Nexus 4 LTE - HTC Rezound

I thought this was interesting. My only gripe with this device was (besides sd card +1 REZ) was LTE

And other things... Really unfortunate how bad the nexus and Verizon situation is like the least Verizon could do is play nice for the nexus line. They wouldn't lose customers to other carriers as bad if they had the nexus line. LG probably has better radios than Samsung too. I know they make better displays.

They really aren't that bad. In fact the galaxy nexus is fully supported in aosp. Sprints variant has never been. The other good thing is that it gives Verizon a stock android device with a ton of development. I had jellybean on my Verizon galaxy nexus the day of Google IO. I'd personally would prefer Verizon did get a nexus 4. Stock android plus an unlocked boot loader is everyone's dream. Combine that with 100% working aosp ROMs like cm and aokp that are as stable as the stock ROM and you have a huge winner. That's the real plus about nexus devices. Also the fact that the differences between the gsm gnex and the lte gnex software wise are so small its so trivial to port ROMs between the two.

I cannot survive on a tiered data plan even if I tried... Graveyard = pandora 10 hours a day 4 days a week and Little Empire lol and Netflix on breaks etc. I mean I'm not using 100 GB+ a month I average around 25-30 ish GB a month or so. Plus I get the discount from my company so I only end up paying like $18 a month for unlimited data trololol.

Well my Wi-Fi has decided that it doesn't feel like reaching my bedroom anymore, so I tether my phone to play Xbox. That burns through data like you wouldn't believe. Oddly enough, 4g in my area is worse for tethering than 3g. 4g always drops out randomly.

Obviously nothing since it says nexus 4 in the title. Its a general discussion thread. Its been slow with development of late since all devs are busy with jelly Bean right now. Its an article that i found interesting. That i thought some in the community may find interesting. If you don't luckily you don't need to read it. I am very respectful of our threads, I could understand you're concern if this were in a devs thread but it's not so there is no reason to be mad about it. that's why we have a general discussion thread.

The Nexus issues are starting

I have been reading the nexus forums, and I just have to LOL.
I seem to remember a ton of people saying "why buy the rezound when the 'superior' google nexus is right around the corner.
seems like they are having issues with screen banding, the phone is very slick and hard to hold. Many people are having battery life issues. The browser is hard to use, there is a volume issue that automatically turns off the volume. It gets hot while using. etc.
just goes to show that every phone has "issues", and you have to pick your poison.
im SO GLAD to be with you guys and on the rezound and when we get ICS the nexus people will be jumping ship
Thats wht they get. That phone is too big for me anyway. I got the rezound soon after release after waiting for months. Like u said pick your poison. The only issue ive had was for some reason the phone decided not to boot up n i hd to do a factory reset. But its bn ok e er since besides the usual htc incredible glitches which i am used to. The size is borderline too big for me but im loving this phone. Cant wait for ICS upgrade

I would have gotten the nexus anyway, but I have a rezound now because I just couldn't justify spending ~$300 for a nexus on contract when I could get the Rezound for free with amazon's deal.
So far I'm happy with the Rezound, although I wish the battery was better. I'm used to my Galaxy S lasting almost 2 days.
You do realize that these issues are related to the gsm device and may not be problems on the cdma/lte version since it's different hardware.

I may have been dreaming as I was surfing the net half asleep last night right before bed, but anyway...I read that the Nexus Volume bug has been acknowledged by Google/Samsung and it is software related not hardware, an update to fix the problem will be released soon. That's the Good thing about Nexus phones, as soon as their is a problem it gets resolved fast.
Btw the volume bug is only on GSM phones in the UK using 900mhz band or something like that. Wouldn't affect Verizon CDMA version.

Exactly my point. This is a "ha ha" post to the people who said the rezound was a pointless buy with the nexus coming out.
Basicly saying every aspect of the nexus was better than the rezound. And now it seems as the playing field has been leveled.
I will have no problem returning the rezound for the nexus nothing aganist this device it feels well built and a decent phone. i do not like sense and a little unsure about how the rooting process goes for htc.

You do know that the Verizon Nexus is going to be bloated as well right? I wouldn't be surprised if they forced Google to lock the bootloader too. It's pretty easy to root HTC phones once S-Off has been achieved. S-off has been achieved apparently, now we're just waiting for proof.
I am on the fence with what to do. The rezound has surprised me and is better than I thought it would be. Will have to see the nexus first. It will probably have better dev support due to the gsm version. And official ROM updates should be more timely than HTC is.

As we have seen in the past..... Better hardware does not make a phone better ....take the gnex for example....plagued with all kinds of issues.
The rezound has s-off, ics, custom sense 4 roms, great dev support ....and yeah we have a beast of a camera too thanks to the sense 4 roms.....so the battery life is not good....big whoop-di-do....its a 4g device, no battery is good, thats why we all buy extended batteries or more batteries.
As far a build quality.....to each there own....You will still need a case and screen protector no matter how great the quality is. Phone quality is only as good as the person handling the device.....so that point is mute.
So if he wants to use a rezound on the att network.....go for it....its his choice. Not all of us can shell out hundreds of dollars everytime we want/need a phone.

My only question is if they'll have a CDMA version on Verizon. I switched to Verizon from ATT because of poor signal and lack of 3G in my area. T-Mobile is even worse. Verizon is by far the best carrier in my area. If they are only releasing a GSM version, I guess I'll be skipping this one.

No difference in specs? way better screen, twice the RAM, better camera, newer gen processor. Specs are a lot better. The kicker will be whether anyone will dev for it. Since it will be stock android, it should run great out of the box, without LG being able to jack it up.

Non-expandable storage is absolutely fatal. If it had 32gb fixed, I could deal with it, but 8gb and 16gb? Sod off. Nice specs, though. If it has a fixed battery that's also a major negative. Need to see more companies taking the maxx approach: make a thin phone, then use the space savings for a huge battery.
What are your thoughts now that we have an official announcement? For me, I wasn't planning on getting this Nexus anyway, and seeing no LTE makes me glad that I'm not in a position to get it this year.
I was heavily upset with hearing that it's currently only a GSM/HSPA+ device..... I am totally down for getting one, if they make a CDMA/LTE version but it's so not worth switching to Tmobile or AT&T... I still have unltd data on vzw
If it had options like 32 or 64 gb I could deal with the non removable battery and lack of lte if i was on tmobile or something.

The i717 performs horribly in comparison.
I have both and the gs3 is my daily, the i717 tends to just sit in a box until someone will hopefully buy it. I put jellybean on it, played with it for a little bit but even still it was never as smooth or as battery friendly as the s3, not even on the same level.

If Sense 5 with 4.1.2 was ported to our phones, I'd imagine that it wouldn't require much more (which I know it was A LOT) work than this port, as at least with portions of the UI, are very similar.
True its crazy how sick our devs are it really helps out our phone life
Lol updated op with link of Rom I saw

Dev community is definitely a big factor when considering a phone, at least for those that like to mod their phones

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If & when we get an official release of Sense 5, I expect there will be more development. Until then..........

HOX and HOX+ just started roll-out of Sense 5 4.2.2
I bet you after Evita, we would get our update. Which is in 2 weeks.

The most development will always go to the Samsung Galaxies. Some other phones like the One might pop up once in a while, bit Samsung Galaxies are sure fire the phones with most development. My brother has the Epic 4g as a backup phone, and the thing STILL gets ROM updates!

80% of galaxy sales are hipsters and women.
Check out the sprint s3 section.
They have less to choose from than we do.
Nexus devices have the most development.

HTC One X now receiving Sense 5 and Android 4.2.2 in Europe, shouldn't be long for the EVO - unless Sprint decides to screw us.

Old news.
Once Evita gets it, then we see us. Sprint won't screw us unlike Verizon, cause Sprint actually lets people do **** to their phones.
Its getting closer...
