[Q] [Question] Unrooting - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello developers,
I have a bit of a dilemma i would like sorted out. So i wake one morning to find my rooted Galaxy S2 I9I00 is not charging even though i have connected the wall charger. It isn't charging with the usb cable as well. I try cleaning the port with an old toothbrush as i read in some thread but that didnt work. My phone doesn't charge my friends battery either so its the phone that has the problem. Not to worry i have my warranty which has been void since i had rooted my phone, so before i call Samsung i will be unrooting my phone. I have found the I9100BVLPH_I9100ORALPH_ORA.zip stock file thanks to sammobile.com . I will be using Triangle away to get rid of the warning triangle tknaks to @chainfire and resetting the binary counter. Now the question i need help with is i have the stock rom now. do i need the stock kernel as well coz i dont remeber the name of it. I am in Uk and got the phone unlocked from the beginning is all i can say which might help for the stock kernel.
Right now i have the CF Root kernel
and

Any help appreciated thanks !!
PS Since my usb port on the phone doesn't work i need a method to do it without using a usb cable .Plz.

Download mobile odin and TAR version of your original ROM and flash it. Mobile odin doesn't increase flash counts.

When you flash stock (TAR) rom it already includes stock kernel in the package (zImage file), so stock kernel will replace your current one. In mobile odin, when you open the firmware file, you will see that "Kernel" partition will be filled in as well.

Remeber, when you download XDA version of mobile odin then you have to download separately (special flash kernel from the same thread for i9100 and store it on internal sdcard). ASAIK paid version from Google Play is able to download it automaticaly.

[Q] Back to Stock - using CWM ?

Hi ppl,
I'll soon sell my SGS2 to a family member's friend.
He's not fine with CM9, so I'd put back stock (even latest ICS) for him.
Unfortunately, I've no Windows PC (so, no Odin), and also always had problems with Heimdall (on my MAC).
So, I'd like to ask:
is it possible to flash an european (even better, italian) stock ROM, all set (ideally with no triangle, I managed to reset it on CM9 but won't be able to do that on stock once root is gone) directly from my actual CWM recovery ?
MANY thanks
You may be able to with Mobile Odin, i strongly recommend you purchase the Play store (paid) version.
First install and run Triangle Away also by Chainfire to reset flash counter and remove the Yellow Trianlge at boot. Next download your stock firmware and flash with Mobile Odin. Remove the option to Root, install busy box etc.
Read the links in my signature for further information, MAKE SURE YOU READ

Yes mobile odin or cwm recovery will do the job of flashing a stock rom, & flashing a stock rom this way will not give you a yellow triangle or increase your flash counter! if you want to clear/reset your flash counter before you flash the stock rom, then as already mentioned use Triangle Away app by chainfire for that, but you don't mention your galaxy s2 model or carrier? do you just want an unbranded/unlocked stock rom?..... either way this is where you'll find the latest official stock roms: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1#osa
You'll have to register to download!
Unbranded, as it was in origin.
CWM would be great, but I'm having difficulties in finding a plain, unmodded, not rooted stock to just flash from recovery

Root Advice - Little help needed

First, I apologize for starting a new thread on this subject.:fingers-crossed:
I just bought my Galaxy S II and I wanna root it,but I'm a little unsure about the whole process.
I also got a VYL00M emmc chip, which is vulnerable,but I'm on 4.0.3 i9100BVLPB.
Here are my thoughts and my questions :
If I flash via ODIN the coresponding CF-root kernel.
But then do I need to flash Syiah kernel through the CWM that comes with CF kernel so I can safely wipe and avoid brickbug?
I hope someone can provide a little aditional information and guide me through the process:angel:
Cheers

ICS 4.0.3 firmware is not affected by the brick bug.
However, you still need to post your ROM and kernel details. Goto Settings - About phone, and post everything you see

1.
Like i said earlier, you are safe from the brick bug because you are running 4.0.3 firmware.
The brick bug only affects 4.0.4 firmware.
2.
To ROOT your device only, you don't need to flash any kernel.

Hi
I have the same phone details as the OP. a UK T-mobile running ICS 4.0.3 i9100 BVLPD
I rooted my phone the other day by the simple method in link above... BUT isn't this method of rooting limited ?
I would like to root my phone fully using an insecure kernel & Odin but i dont know where to get the correct kernel for my phone, i need an insecure & original secure kernel to do this right ?
Sorry for my nuwbness questions.
Peace
What are you talking about "limited" and "fully".Its either rooted or it aint.
That method doesnt give you CWM,if thats what you mean. You can just flash a custom kernel that contains CWM if you want.
Isn't exynos abuse the faster way to get rooted?

Ok, my bad, i am a nubie after all . i thought i'd read somewhere that this method was limited in some way.
But now you've confused me a lil more, the thread (also in ur sig) says it does have CWM
Rooting
Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
- CWM via stock recovery or download zip from http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
- SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage.
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted

Cool, I made a back up in what i think is CWM and it put a 1.4GB folder on my sd-card.
Am i right in thinking i could mess up my phone, reset it or delete progs & mess with setting ...THEN as long as i can boot to recovery & CMW & load the back up it would return it back to how it is now ?
Peace
That is temporary cwm-not permanent. If you rebooted after flashing the 2 files......it launches stock recovery.
Anyway when your rooted/got permanent cwm you should be backing up your efs and doing a nand backup.
Then start pissing about with roms.

Thx theunderling
I see now... so i DO need to get permanent CWM ? I'd need to flash an insecure kernel for that right (i have one ready)
Dont yet know what efs is (ill read up on it) and nand back up ? i just been doing a lil reading on that and thought the back up i'd done is the same thing, they were calling it Nandroid back up, is that different ?
Peace
Just flash Siyah kernel in ODIN and then you will have root and CWM. Its that simple. No need for anything else at all.
I dont understand why we always have all this crap and unnecessary files/steps etc.
Connect phone to PC.
Reboot phone into download mode.
Load up ODIN.
Flash Siyah kernel.
Thats its, Once done you will have new kernel, cwm recovery, rooted system, SU, and also CWM app installed.
If you want new rom simply reboot into stock, wipe data and flash rom you want, You dont have to worry about cwm again as all custom kernels come with recovery.
Yeah I missed your other post saying you had done the nand backup as I was in the middle of writing my reply when you posted yours.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 Firmware/Software Update

Hello,
I recently got a gift from a friend in the form of a Samsung Galaxy S2.
Last time I've owned a samsung phone was before the smartphone era, however I am familiar with other smartphones running android.
This phone, has the following info:
Android Version: 2.3.5.
Baseband Version: I9100XXKI4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI8-CL616395 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
Kies Info --> PDA:KI8 / PHONE:KI4 / CSC:KI2 (ODK)
If I try to update with Kies it says that my device's current firmware is not supported to update via Kies.
From what I've researched, the region code at the end (ODK) means that the phone was originally purchased in Sweden. Will that be a problem?
As far as I know the phone was not locked when I got it since I'm using a different carrier in a different country.
I tried to look up codes for Galaxy S2 that can tell me if the phone has a locked bootloader, if it can be unlocked, etc, but without any success.
So my questions are the following:
1. How can I update the phone to the most recent samsung firmware?
2. I know that official firmware comes with a lot of bloatware and I wish to get rid of it, and for that I need root, how do you do it on a samsung?
(i have no idea where to begin since my last phone's software/steps followed seem to be completely different)
3. Is there a way to change the firmware/region code or whatever to the country I'm currently residing in?
and last but not least, any suggestions on what I should do?
Cheers and thanks.

1. Afaik Kies will only update if you are using the stock firmware from the country you are connecting from. Custom firmwares will not work. The easiest way to flash the latest stock firmware is via Odin.
2. Install a kernel that roots your phone like Siyah or Dorimanx.
3. Search for threads in XDA about how to change your CRC.
Hello Megaritis,
Thank you for your reply.
Regarding the CRC, I need to change it to the country i'm residing in only if I plan on updating my phone via Kies, right?
I'm not planning on flashin JB just yet because i think it still needs some polishing. I want to flash an official ICS ROM on Siyah's Kernel.
My current to do is:
1. Get Odin, and flash the new kernel.
2. Get an official ICS ROM and flash it.
3. Get Titanium Backup and remove the bloatware if any.
4. Use the phone.
Anything else I should do / know?
Soo...here is where I am so far:
1. Downloaded SiyahKernel v5.0.1.
2. Downloaded PDA and CSC firmware for the country I reside in (from SamMobile.com).
Whats next? Stick them all into Odin and hope for the best?
PDA -> PDA
CSC -> CSC
PHONE -> SiyahKernel
???

Instead of doing all this together I suggest you just flash neat rom Lite (ics version, the latest v4 is JB) its the stock firmware with every bloatware removed and it is pre-rooted. Even v4 is pretty much stable and cool too as it is based on the leaked stock JB.
And several flashable addon are also available for it.
And If you are going to proceed with what you downloaded, flash Siyah after flashing the stock firmware.
Also before you proceed I suggest you check for brick bug, which can potentially superbrick your phone, Stock ICS 4.0.4 Kernel contains the problematic command, if you are effected, never perform any wipe or erase or reset with the stock kernel, just flash Siyah before doing all that.

I expect the same from others.
Could you post a small walkthrough on how I do that?

NeatROM v3 is ICS I guess. And it contains v3 Siyah just flash the newest (which you downloaded) one if you feel like it(it's pretty much better)

Right.
I flashed CF-Root in order to root the current os.
Now, I wanna flash to 4.0.3. first. I downloaded an archive with a tar from sammobile.com from a carrier in my country.
How do I aproach this?
I put the .tar i downloaded in PDA in ODIN, and flash that first, and then put the Siyah tar in the PHONE field in ODIN and flash that second?
So long story short if you want to perform a factory reset, wipe do it from a kernel that is deemed safe like Siyah latest (v5.0.1 I guess).

I get what you're saying, both files go into PDA and they get flashed separatly, Siyah being the second in line.
But I have the following problem, or do i?
My current kernel is XWKI8 and as far as I know you can't flash different CSC/FIRMWARE if its not compatible with the kernel.

Yes, so flash Siyah first, then the rest.
When I was referring to flashing Siyah I meant updating it, but if you have an incompatible kernel you must flash siyah first.
But if you are flashing a stock firmware (not tampered with) the kernel doesn't matter as the PDA file contains it and will overwrite the existing one with a compatible one.

Agreed, I raised the problem only because sammobile.com's info on the file i downloaded doesn't list a kernel and I assumed that it only contains the PDA and CSC.
So if you are flashing with tar files you most probably don't need to worry about kernel, for example in neat rom Lite v3 it includes Siyah v3, but in case of flashing zip files you need a compatible kernel before hand.

In some cases PDA file won't contain kernel in such a package the kernel will be given separately, like the CSC file.

Bro just make sure what kind of file do you have? A zip or a tar? Flashing a zip(it's done via CWM) - - >compatible kernel required
Flashing a tar(via Odin) - - >if kernel included nothing to worry just flash.
peace

I expect the same from others.
Hmm, I think the .tar file does contain everything needed, even though i flashed siyah first....
I guess i'll have to re-flash it after its done.
By the way, any idea how I remove those flash counts?

Usb jig is your hardware and easiest option you can get it from eBay, or since you are using ICS, triangle away by chainfire will do the trick you can get it for free from his forum or you can buy him a beer and buy it from the play store.
Triangle Away is pretty easy too... Lol

Okay so its done. For some reason the android version is indeed 4.0.4 but the phone is okay, i downloaded that app and it states that the chip is ok and again, for some other reason, its still rooted, i don't know if the tar i had contained a kernel or not, but its all good now. I HOPE.
EDIT: Wops....spoke too soon, i saw the superuser app on my home screen and I assumed its rooted, but its not. Gotta re-flash siyah's kernel now.

Well, I flashed the kernel but now titanium backup is stuck at Searching Application Data, but it did prompt me for root priviledges... :|
EDIT: Meh...it was probably stuck because it was trying to access the SD card but my cable was still plugged in....fixed.
Now, i have one last question for the night: now i have 2 "root" apps in my homescreen, one is superuser and the other is supersu, judging by the fact that the "superuser" one was there when I first booted, I suspect that its useless and the supersu is the one with the root. How do I remove it?

[Q] Please HELP ! Rooted, but CANNOT Upgrade to 4.1.2 !!

Hello,
My 9100 is using 4.0.4, and I would like to upgrade it to 4.1.2 (I9100ZCLSH_I9100OZHLSH_CHN, it's a chinese version because I would like to have a chinese system). BUT FAILED!
I have already installed CWM with super user, and whenever I reboot the phone, there is a yellow triangle, so I BELIEVE it's been rooted successfully.
When I put the phone in download mode, plug it in Odin, the sign shows yellow with COM4 (or 5 or 6), so I believe there is no connection or driver problem.
However, when I load the PDA file I9100ZCLSH_I9100OZHLSH_CHN and start, Odin could not complete the flash. it shows FAIL....
Please see the picture. Could anyone help with this issue !!! Thank you so much !!
Details of my system:
4.0.4
baseband version I9100XXLQ5
Kernel: 3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505
Build number IMM76D.XXLQ5

Hi, Thank you very much.
I think I have already rooted, I flashed with CF-Root-SGS2-XX_OXA_LQ5-v5.6-CWM5, and I could get super user permission.
But the only problem is that I cannot flash a new stock firmwire....

Hi thanks gastonw.
Yes, I have heard of the danger of 4.0.4 and I wonder if my system has been "soft bricked"... Luckily, it's still working on 4.0.4, though failed in flashing new stock firmwire. I just don't know the reason...
Download new Odin 3.07 version.
Are yu flashing right ROM version.
Maybe corrupted files.
Try redownload it. If you downloaded from SamFirmware maybe its bad download.
Something is wrong with SAM zip files. I downloaded today from SAM and ger ZIP damaged. Downloaded from annother link
Redownload the ROM and flash again with ODIN 3.07

Thanks bihslk.
Yes, I'm Chinese. I was using UK version and fine, but now I switched to S3 and I'm giving S2 to my mom. Chinese version will be easier for her
I tried a new version of Odin, the same failure ....
Do you think the firmwire that I downloaded has a problem ?? yes I downloaded it from samfirmwire, and actually I tired 3 different versions, including older ginger bread , none of them worked ... this problem is driving my a little crazy .
There is a way to solve "unflashable" S2, do you recommend I try it?

I think you have corrupted files.
Try to download the same ROM again but from annother LINK. NOT Hotfile
If it doesnt work neither. Then try to install ICS Chinese for you REGION and try update via OTA or KIES
It it doesnt work 2 then try the link you posted ABOVE
One more thing. I saw you have COM6 or something. It sounds like USB HUB ports.
Try to connect phone to the original PC USB in front of the PC or MotherBoard USB not in the HUBS.
Make ONE PC reboot 2

Hello guys,
Thank you soooo much for all your advises ! Without your suggestions, I would not be able to solve this problem.
In the end, I think its the firmware V.S. phone format problem.
I9100OZHLSH_CHN, is the official firmware to chinese S2 users. Mine is actually Canadian i9100 M, but I flashed it with UK version so it shows I9100. I read a thread in chinese, saying that Bootloader is needed, which use .pit to format the partition from eur to chn. Thus, I guess no matter how many times I try, without Bootloader, the flash would be failed. (I did not really try the bootloader, seems to be risky, if anyone in the future needs it, pls follow this link in chinese though.... http://bbs.anzhi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=6347421&reltid=6324097&pre_pos=2&ext= ).
I follow this instruction to recover my system to 4.0.3, which I have better control ..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1457458
Then I found this "Official Android 4.1.2 ZSLSH Jelly Bean Firmware", which they say it's released in China but can also be install in EU international phones, I succeeded ! This firmware has both english and Chinese language packages. :fingers-crossed:
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...icial-android412-zslsh-jellybean-firmware.htm
So overall, ZSLSH works on my phone, but ZHLSH will never I guess.
Thank you all again, and hope this may help others who may encounter this issue in the future !!!!!
I9100 & i9100M has got the same hardware so it should work.

[Q] Soft bricked my device

I was busy trying to flash cm10.2 RC for my i9100 and ended up soft-bricking my phone. Not sure what happened, probably just me doing something stupid. If I recall the correct way to handle this is:
1)Find stock rom+kernel
2) install KIES on pc
3) flashing using ODIN in download mode
The problem is that I have no idea where to get the 4.1.1 stock rom and kernel from for my phone. I'm from Canada and using Virgin/Bell Mobile, so I tried looking up the CSC code and stuff. I stumbled upon http ://samsung-updates. com/device/?id=GT-I9100 (needed 10 posts and didnt want to just make random posts) but I have no idea which rom is the correct one. Would really appreciate some help with this (resources for stock roms+kernel) Could I use philz safe stock as a kernel? Christ I swear I used to know how to do all this.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you flashed because the international Galaxy S2 hasn't received any CM10.2 RC builds

So I used the link you gave me to get it to GB stock rom+kernel (since I read intratechs stuff might not work). Then using KIES I got to 4.1.2. AT that point my firmware info changed from PDA:KG2/PHONE:KG2/CSC:KG2 (BMC) to PDA:MA5/PHONE:MA5/CSC:MA5(BMC). No idea what that means. Went to http://forum.xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=1103399 to grab a rooted kernel with cwm. Then my phone just gets stuck in a boot loop or fails to launch. Tried siyah kernels v2 and v3, they fail (boot loops). Dorimanx just causes my phone to freeze midway between the samsung screen animation and the warning triangle.
Basically, Im stuck right now only being able to boot successfully to stock 4.1.2 un rooted. Any idea where to head from there?

So i would guess you want to get back onto a custom rom like CM? Just flash this version of dorimanx on your phone via odin and it should boot, 8.43 for samsung based roms you must use those that start with 8, e.g. 8.43 or 8.41 etc... Once you flash it you can now boot into CWM recovery and install CM as you always had.
NVm, kinda got it working on SlimBean with a CWM 6.0 kernel. Thanks for all the help from the XDA community.
