[Q] Internet Connection randomly dropping? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have been having an issue for about the last 2 weeks or so where I will randomly see in my notification panel (when I pull down) that it says there is "no internet connection" and I cant seem to figure out why. This happens about every 2 days or so.
I try to toggle air plane mode (on and off) but it does not fix the issue and I am forced to reboot to get the connection to restore. I searched for something similar but didn't find anything.
I am dual booting with Siyah Kernel and my main ROM is Dark Paranoid and my secondary ROM is Wanam Lite (Samsung based). I use the MAIN ROM 99.9% of the time and it is here where I am seeing this weird drop of internet connection. I am OC'd to 1.6 but NO UV of any kind.
Is anyone else having this issue? Can anyone advise on what I can do about it? I have not flashed a new Modem since owning the device so maybe that's the issue? I'm in Canada and the device language was Dutch I believe when I first booted it after I bought it. Obviously this is the I9300 International version. I'm on Rogers Wireless in Canada. Can anyone recommend a good / new modem for it maybe?
Please advise.
Thanks,

I suggest you wipe caches and dalvik caches

I do wipe these probably every couple of days just to keep the device at "peak performance" but the issue still happens...

Ya know?... I haven't even thought about "fast dormancy" being an issue on this device but now I remember having a similar issue on my SGSII.
Do you have the dialer code to get to that menu? I will give it a try and see what happens...

Well I tried the "fast dormancy" app on the Play Store and my data speeds went to sh!t... I don't know if this is the answer for me...

reset wifi radio?

I have a weird problem where, after a couple days, my wifi just stops working. When i turn it on, it just cuts off after about 40 seconds. Normally(when working) it will show a list of available wifi networks, but now will show nothing(when I know im by numerous networks)
This has happened couple times before, and just passed it off as a quirk. Now is the 3rd time, and the only way i have found to fix it, is to do a factory reset. Surely i cant keep doing that(and having to resinstall all apps)
anybody has an idea of what problem could be?
(LTE works fine, and im not doing anything strange when all of a sudden it just quits on me)
so basicaly im trying to find a way to reset the radio, without resetting the whole phone....
Try flashing just the radio in cwm

3G CDMA disconnecting during high data download

Hi,
I have been facing some strange issues from the day i got my photon,
My 3G CDMA (EVDO) works fine in normal scenario (with normal web page viewing) but when ever i try to do large file download / try watching youtube with HD video the EVDO gets disconnected and i think the radio re-starts after around 1-2 mins and the data connection is up again.
Same thing happens if i try using speedtest (may be that also tries to send big chunk of data to test BW) and when i try download big files of more than around 5 MB in Google play.
When this data disconnection happens in my EVDO signal bar only upload arrow is being shown and no download.
This issue is persistant in all the Rom's i tried (have faced with Stock/CM7/MUI/CNA/CM9).
Using the photon in CDMA with Reliance in India.
Pl help me to get the issue resolved
Might just be an issue with your service provider.
I wish I could watch youtube in HD lol

I don't think its a problem with service provider as the issue is not present in my friends mobile (Samsung)
Dumb question but, did you make sure that you dont have data saver enabled. I had it enabled from Sprint and had an issue like that. Its under settings--> battery & data manager--> data saver

Had checked that earlier, It is not enabled.
Just to check just enabled it and checked same issue
Some one pl help
If this has happened since day one, the n you should flash stock on it and turn it in for a replacement because it sounds like it might be a hardware issue. Its obviously not a software issue since it happens with so many variations of roms.

Thanks for the reply. But dont you think any other option may be there ,may be if i reflash any new radio will it work ?
I think issue is not seen if i use GSM 3G NW. But it comes up only with CDMA EVDO

If you're sure that when flashing the other romz you appropriately wiped data, system, cache, and dalvik I'm inclined to agree with fugitive. I would flash the latest sbf and see if the problem persists. If its still there, get it traded for a replacement as your issue isn't normal.

That could just be an issue with their network in india then, but just to make sure, are you using gsm or cdma networks, because it could be a gsm issue. I would think cm9 would be your best option seeing as how they have more gsm support

Mobile Data Dropping

Okay I have been rooted for a day now and it seems that I am having some trouble staying connected to my mobile data. I did remove some bloat once I rooted but I don't think it has anything to do with that because when I am connected everything is fine. Is anyone else having this issue?

It's happened to me a few times but I think it's more of an LTE thing then an issue with the phone.

Hasn't happened to me.. but I'm also on another Rom though... Tsm 0.2.1... I recommend it... It takes away the dreaded 3 dot menu screen

I'm on stock and see it happen at home as I get near the edge of Wi-fi range. The phone seems to continuously switch from mobile data to wi-fi, causing a lot of stutters when I'm streaming. I also had to switch to the 2.4 GHz channel from the router. The 5 GHz channel was worse and the phone seemed to be confused when I had it set up to connect to both channels. I'm not seeing LTE at our house, 3G at best.

Have you tried changing Settings->Power->Power Mode to High Performance?
That fixed it for me.
Well I had the issue a few times the night before and a couple times yesterday. Bit I think it might be the WiFi effect or what I'm calling it. The phone seems to want to auto connect to WiFi and it makes the mobile data stutter a bit.

you can diable that annoying auto wifi connect thing, in settings > wifi > menu > advanced and click "never auto turn on wifi"

I like having it enabled because it allows me to get on my network at home and work automatically. Which is helpful because I gave up my unlimited data. But if it does it again I may look into it.

Wifi Hangs in a "Powering Off" status

I'm using the latest version of MeanROM (6.4) and for a while now I'll notice my Wifi is off, and when I check quick settings it's frozen in a powering off state. The only way to bring it back up is to reboot the phone. I've performed several clean installs to no avail. Anyone else see this?

Update firmware. It may still happen once in a while after that, but that minimises it. I'm still on 6.1 and latest firmware and I get that once in a while. Last time was a few weeks ago.

I have been having this same problem for a couple of weeks. I tried other roms and the problem remains. I'm not sure what to do to fix it. Are you by any chance using auto WiFi toggle app as well?
Thanks, Jack

I'm not using a toggle app either, just the quick links in the notification area. When you say update firmware, what firmware are you speaking of?

[Q] GS3 Network Problems

Hey Guys,
Have a rooted & unlocked GS3 I9300, running stock firmware.
When I first got it (Christmas) it worked perfectly. But after a few hours, I was unable to make calls (not registered on network error appears), go online or send/receive sms. I can now sporadically send and receive SMS, but it seems to be completely at random as to when I can do it.
When I turn the phone on and put in my pin, an error comes up saying I have entered my pin incorrectly, but my attempts left do not go down. 99% of the time, I have absolutely no service and occasionally, I have one bar.
I have checked and the IMEI code is still there and matching. Have tried numerous sim cards and none of them work.
Could anyone help me? At my wits' end!
Go to stock recovery and wipe data.
If it doesn't work flash a stock rom with Odin.

Tried that but made no difference!
Managed to get a full signal earlier, but it dropped a few minutes after. Could it be a hardware problem?

Go to your network settings under mobile networks, and do a manual selection of your network. Also try both gsm and hspda modes separately.

Tried changing between modes but none of them seem to make a difference!
When I try to scan for networks, it say "Error while scanning for networks".
Should I just give it up for lost at this stage?
