[Q] dead battery. How to get into CWM? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

the sound issue will have to wait.
i tried to cwm restore my atrix, due to bootloops after installing the 30 step volume mod in neutrino 2.91, while plugged into the charger, and it died on me. now my battery is dead, and it will only charge enough for it to boot up to the boot logo, then turn off, and repeat the same cycle.
any advice?

Wait, why do you get to the boot screen if you are trying to get into cwm?
Go into cwm and wipe and reflash the rom.
Or just plug it into the charger while the phone is off to get to the charge screen instead of going through boot

see, the thing is, i plug it into the dock, which is connected to the wall. the green led comes on and stays on. then, out of nowhere, it boots up, giving me no time to get into CWM.
i did it once, but then during the restore process, it died again.
and there is no charge screen. just the green led solidly lit.

Try to use a USB cable and a Wall adapter, maybe the dock is borked. Or try the other way around if you have a spare battery. Better to try than to wait for nothing.

Charging a drained battery

Ok, I tried root, installing a new recovery and then installing CM 7.2
1) Photon Torpedo for root - no problem
2) Installed CWM recovery apk - and then boot into CWM recovery - no problem
3) Backup system to sdcard - no problem
4) install CM7.2 + gapps - it flashed no problem
(now as you can tell, i forgot to unlock the bootloader)
5) reboot - PROBLEM
I got the "Failed to Boot 2" error, i had it plugged into AC and had 70-80% charge when i started, however, i let it set after the reboot for 20 or so minutes, was off doing something.
I tried rebooting a couple of time, same problem
EVENTUALLY: It would simply not turn on anymore, i think the battery is drained and it will not charge being plugged into wall socket or USB.
How do I get it to charge?
- Do I find a friend with a photon running stock that i can put my battery in, will it charge that way?
- Can a sprint store simply charge the battery for me?
I figure once I can get that going, I can run RSD lite and recover via an SBF image.
Thanks
This has happened to me.. battery drains and doesn't whant to boot.. what I do is.. take battery out., plug in ur charger.(sometimes you get a white light,) press power button, YOU KIGHT HAVE TO TRY SEVERAL TIMES until the green light comes on..but once you see it put your battery back in.. and it should start charging.

When I say several times.. I ment unplugging your phone from charger, plug back in , push power button.. and again( until it powers on) not just pressing power button until. Didn't know if I specified well enough. Hope this helps.

i actually tried a different usb port a bit ago and have a white indicator light on now while plugged in... not sure what that means
I will try your way in a bit if this doesn't mean anything useful tho... thanks
K, am nor really sure what the white light is either.. I just know, on stock when you plugged phone to charge (being dead) green light turns on,screen Motorola logo shows then goes to a battery charging animation.. the white light did nothing for me. But hope you run better luck.

after about 5 minutes i got a green light now... maybe the software for the battery charge display got whacked when i wiped system and tried to install CM 7 - but the hardware part of the charge works.
The only thing I can think of is that white means: i'm charging, but don't try to boot me up at the moment.
I also notice, once it gets a charge it tries to automatically boot - anyway to avoid this?
If its charging you should be able to just boot into RSD lite mode without the phone trying to boot into a ROM..
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
If the phone is off and u plug it to charge, it shouldn't boot into the ROM, yes the Motorola logo comes up as it does when u turn the phone on, but then goes to charging..
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Well, every time it boots i get the
"Failed to boot 2"
Something about NvFlash (can't remember the text)
"Battery to low to flash"
Then it is just stuck there, but not sure if it is charging at that point or not... but not sure if i have enough battery to RSD Lite an SBF image

Mine boots into *nothing* i forgot to unlock the bootloader so the rom i flashed gives me a "Failed to Boot 2" every time it powers on
K, let me power my phone off and kinda try to recreate the "not charging while plugged in" problem.. (sometimes it happens when I power off.) And ill see wich method gets the phone to just charging.. br
worse comes to worse, i know someone with a photon and i can ask if i can charge my battery in their phone
Just tried it.. and yeah phone wouldn't boot or charge by pressing the power button or connecting to charger.. but I did what I always do.. pull battery, connect charger, green light turns on, I insert battery, and goes to charging.. I also tried goin on RSD lite mode without battery inserted. And I got the same error about battery to low to flash. Have you tried this method I just wrote in this reply to get battery to charge?
Sent from my Mopho Cm7.2
Here are a couple things i tried
1) remove battery
2) make sure phone is not connected to charger
3) plug in charger
4) logo appears - says "Failed to boot 2"
5) as "Starting RSD Mode" starts, i have inserted the battery
6) I still get "Battery is too low to flash"
also tried tried with vol-up (Fast boot mode) and vol-down (NvFlash recovery mode) - and ultimately i get "Battery is too low to flash" no matter what
Thanks for the help, however.
side note: found an external battery charger for the photon on amazon for $4, i might just buy one.
Did u insert battery before logo appears? If so, then I am out of ideas, lol hopefully you can get it working soon.
Sent from my Mopho Cm7.2
I just tried something like that now. The charger is plugged into the wall outlet. Basically i plug it in, green light comes on, quickly snap the battery in place before logo appears
I get the logo and the messages at top as normal, but at that point, i don't think it is charging anymore
Lol darn it.. at that point am out of options.. sorry it didn't work.. btw how you forget to be unlocked lol.. anyhow I would go to your friends, borrow his charged battery just so you can get to stock, and start fresh, then return battery obviously, lol
Sent from my Mopho Cm7.2
Yeah i have to charge it elsewhere - i just read some other threads here about people messing up their boot with a "Failed to boot 2" error, the system simply will nto charge a battery at the boot loading screens... so, I bought that charger off amazon for $7 (including shipping), be nice to have it if i continue to fiddle with the phone.
for the next few days... people can't call me... whoop de doo. However, I am pretty certain it is not bricked, so i'm not freaked anymore.
Still, thanks for all the help you tried!
Could you post a link for that charger, I have a second battery I would like to be able to charge.
Lol.. well there u go,

phone not charging when turned off

So my battery drained out and died on me, I go to plug it in and the orange light comes on for 3 seconds and shuts off. I let it sit try to power it up after about 15 mins nothing. I go to bed wake up try to turn it on and nothing. Why wont my phone charge?
Do you have ClockWorkMod installed? There are known issues about this. Best thing to try is pull the battery, plug it all in and try to boot into recovery/hboot. Let the battery charge a bit there then reboot the phone and let it charge to full
I do have clockwork recovery, but I cant boot at all battery drained right out, so there isnt even power to turn on at all.
yea clockworkmod is probably your problem there are plenty of posts explaining this
do u have an external charger you can plug it in? or phone?

USB Plugged in Bootloop on Cyanoboot

Hey all for some odd reason once I plug in the usb cable, the NT just reboots and starts bootlooping on cyanoboot screen while loading emmc. if i don't have the usb cable plugged in it will boot just fine with no bootloops whatsoever. have any of you encountered this problem? I had cm10 running on it and thought it was a bad flash, reflashing didn't help and restoring to a cm7 backup didn't do the trick either...
any ideas?

determines on your definition of charging. since it keeps on bootlooping endlessly on cyanoboot is it considered charging?
when i had flashed your cm10 rom on the cyanoboot screen it says charging disabled. so i assume that means its not charging?
if i have the usb cable plugged in and i turn the NT off completely by holding the power button, it will shut off but then come straight back on since the usb cable is sitll plugged in.
boots fine without the usb cable, but once the usb cable is inserted it just instant reboots and the bootlooping on cyanoboot starts.
do you think it may be hardware failure?

Cyanoboot screen saying charging disabled is normal.
Before we can say is a hardware failure, if you hold N can you stop Cyanoboot?
If you can stop it select recovery and leave it there 20-30 minutes.

yeah i can stop it and select recovery and it will boot into recovery. this is assuming the usb cable is not plugged in. whatever state the NT is in, once the usb cable is plugged in, it will auto reboot and start bootlooping on cyanoboot.
i have already requested for a replacement from B&N, so i don't know if leaving it on for 20-30 minutes is an option at this point. i plan to wipe the thing completely using adam's total wipe before i send it back to them.
i am afraid that if i leave it on for 20-30 minutes the battery will die and i won't be able to boot from sd to initiate the total wipe by adamoutler.

You are right, is a hardware problem. Go get a replacement.
so i got the replacement a week or so ago, and this replacement is now having the same problem... what in the world is going on. i am using your rom with the sgt7 enhancements. is it possible that the governor being on hotplug may be the problem?
EDIT: changed it back to the default ondemand governor... the problem is still there... how is this possible.
All this make me think is a bad flash.
Check your rom for any corruptions

i restored to the 1.4.2 factory stock image that i made with cwm when i first got my replacement nook. same problem exists... i think it has something to do with the usb port getting bent or something...
How you manage to bent a brand new usb port?
So, take it back again for a replacement.

thats the plan lol... the replacement nook was a pre-certified one. this time around they say they are going to send me a brand new one....
Same Problem on nook tablet cm 10.1 acclaim
I had the same problem with my tablet after I allowed the battery to drain completely while using it. I have to mention in my situation I had lost the original charger that came with my nook and I've been using a wall charger from my cell phone. When I had the stock barnes & noble nook tablet plugged in I noticed that the device would say that it's not charging even though it really was. It just took a longer time to charge. More than likely i had a voltage difference between the two devices. I too was stuck in that cyanoboot loop where there was not enough power to load the operating system and cyanboot wouldn't indicated if my battery was in fact charging. I had two solutions to this; I left my endless loop on overnight and in the morning low and behold i was booted into cyanogenmod. My other solution was to leave the device off for a long period of time and then try again. Hopefully this helps anyone else out in the future.

boot looping problem us 5.0

ok ive posted a few times on here about my problems not trying to be a nusence but i figure out more and more my problem is that my player will not boot up properly it just get stuck in a boot loop anytime it is shut off or dies the only way to get it to reboot is by plugging it into a wall charger not a usb charger and then mashing the recovery buttons and every once in awhile it will boot back up but it doesnt charge right it will charge to 100% but when i unplug it it says its still charging untill it gets to 10% and its normal again but its like its always charging other then that its fine untill it dies or freezes or something ive tried switching roms but it does the exact same thing everytime and any rom.

My friend: as droid_noob21 has pointed out, you need to give us more information. You have the USA 5.0 Player. Good. Are you rooted? Do you have CWM Recovery? Custom roms or kernels? We are XDA and we are here to help. But you have to give us more details first.

cannot turn on phone anymore

New issue ..
Today i didn't have a charger with me so phone drained completely. Now it no matter how long i charge it it will not boot right.
This is what it is doing, two kind of behaviors:
1, when it is plugged into an outlet screen remain slightly lit, able to boot into bootloader, able to boot into recovery (once phone turned off itself in recovery..). when trying to boot into android phone hangs on LG loading screen and LG loading screen disappear as soon as unplug the phone from the outlet . LED light remain off while plugged in, it should be lit when being charged.
2, when it is plugged into a computer phone seems to boot itself, LG logo flashing on and off quickly seeming like bootloop.
I have flashed the rom again it didnt help.
Edit 1: fixed by factory restore

CWM supports charging your battery, so use the strongest charger you have (spec is 2amp charger) and leave it there for a few hours. the reason it flips on usb connection is because most usb is only 0.5 amp or maybe 1amp if you're lucky.
You should be ok gotta be patient though.

Yea you just have to leave the charger in for a while..mine did this...but you can also try this
Unplug the charger hold down the power button of 15sec and then put the charger back in (the red light should come on)
Then the screen will show the LG logo about two times and then the battery charging logo
And just give it a minute or two and power it up
The LG charger is 1.2a
