Well, now that it's for the most part over, what were your thoughts on Nokia World.
I for one am not a fan of the Nokia 710 Sabre, the hardware is clearly high quality. However, the overall look and feel of the device looks too... HTC-ish. The 800/Searay on the other hand was simply astounding. I have no problem admitting that I was disappointed in the lack of a FFC, something that is rumored to be heading to the U.S. release but that still halts me from importing one. The rest of the device however, is awesome. The unibody is amazing, there's not a seam on the device. Even the glass seems to meld right in to the unibody. It's almost a work of art.
Another bit I was interested in was
The Nokia Kinetic flex display, bend your device one way to zoom in and the other to zoom out, there are numerous other applications for this but quite frankly, I just can't wait.
So, what do you think of Nokia's new offerings. They also released the Asha series running Series 40 which is an OS between smartphones and dumbphones to aid developing countries in accessing the internet.
Overall, it went well. I expected more things to occur that I didn't know in advance but I'm certainly not disappointed.
A little bit disappointed was hoping to hear about the ace, and no US release date.
The 800 is the one that looks like an ipod touch nano isn't it?
Well, the flexible phone could be excellent for hotheads. Girlfriend pisses them off, they can throw their phone as hard as they want against a wall and it will bounce right back to them.
hmmm. well, nokia is kinda garbage. and in my opinion windows mobile is the worst mobile OS ever conceived. lags, terrible UI. and we all know that nokia uses outdated hardware.

Get with the times. WP7 is better than all of them now. Android can't even compare to how nice WP7 is. Not even iOS, which bests Android for quality and reliability, can't even compare to WP7.
You're missing out on WP7.
So they've basically taken the N9 and bunged WP7 in it.
Woah, it can't handle arabic or chinese? Seriously?
Thread back, sorry about that
They have a giveaway for Lumia 800 at facebook. Probably not winning, but it's worth a try.
Oh, and the phone does look pretty awesome.

I think the Lumia 710 is an attempt at bringing a production version of the highly desired mockups shown a long time ago.

Honestly, I never was fond of those. They looked like the focus to me and though I like the focus, I wanted something new.
that bending screen and phone is a huge step towards new gen phones and wp is a soild OS , just needs time
Screw Nokia. I just found out the N9/800 isn't aluminum like I had believed. That was the only remaining thing in Nokia's favor and now that's gone. I won't even look in Nokia's direction now.
But me saying this should make Nokia more favorable to people who have hated them.

No.
It's too small, the display is not flat. It has no FFC and the memory is limited to 16GB. It's also one of the thickest phones around. And it isn't aluminum.
Hands down the most beautiful and elegant wp7 device. I'm typing this from mine

i understand why you and some people would say about the size memory and ffc though for me i think the size is great as with my hd7 i did find my trouser pulled where is was so huge. ffc i dont think will get used anything like the amount ppl complain about it not being there. Mem is fair i would of wanted more but plus sides out weigh this.
HOWEVER not being aluminum is nothing but one of the best things to happen to this phone. Its a single moulded peice of polycarbonate so it will feel stirdier than any metal phone as well as having the advantage of 1. not showing scratches and most important 2 it does not mess up the antenna so your signal will be massivly improved. I do not get how anybody could consider this a bad thing at all but rather the best thing to ever happen to a phone.

yes when you can scroll though a grid of icons, yes i see thats so much better whilst watching your battery drain away.
My opinion is this is the best looking phone since the nokia 8850. That with amazing build and one of the best screens on any device makes this a must have. Then add the extra Nokia features plus the great camera not the best no, but up there and at a price point that makes iPhone look even more stupidly overpriced make this a true winner

I know it sucks esp as i am scrapping the walls already and i get mine in 2 days (one way or another) but if i lived in the USA i would advise waiting for the new year. I very strongly suspect they will bring a different version of the Lumia 800 with improved specs ie ffc and 32/64gb. I remember reading they said they will be bringing out top spec devices in usa in q1. I also suspect you will get a look in first at the 900/ace/champaign. Its a bit like htc with the hd2 you had to wait but you got the good stuff.
I just feel that unless you can afford to blow the cash for 2 months of use you will kick yourself for jumping in to early. Plus I dont think you get the full data speeds on t-mobile but that i am unsure of.
Sexiest phone with what I consider to be the best mobile OS. Yes yes yes!
Lumia 800 ROM
I just got my Lumia 800 from Telecom Germany, it has modyfied software for Telecom, start logo, special Telecom ringtones etc.
Do anyone know how to get the General Nokia software to the phone... ?
I would really like to "debrand" it.

it really is beautiful. amoled looks great at first sight. (on second sight the letters dont look "clean"). its really fast. compared to the titan it seems much snappier when scrolling trough the ui.
however its so tiny.. i cant imagine to use it for long web-browsing sessions.
also.. 16gb non expandable is a joke these days. With 64GB i would have bought it instantly. Being one sexy music player could be a good selling point..
so na i guess i pass on this generation of wp..
This Phone is just gorgeous! Got it yesterday and everyone i showed i to, was impressed about the build quality and about the design, even hardcore iPhone and Apple fans.
The N9 might have more features, but it is really expensive and it was dead before even released. MeeGo is dead, so i don't care about the N9.

People just say this rubbish because its thein thing to say or like anything that results in a direct diss to Microsoft. It is a worrying trend esp when even with all there faults, and there are many, Microsoft is still the best option for most. At the end of the day it is the end users that miss out and we will all miss out big style if it continues. Even MS cant take this bad attitude towards it for ever and that will lend us to a world dominated by apple clones and/or software made in peoples bedrooms. I love android i love linux but could i live with just them all the time? Not a chance. Like it or not MS is leading the way in the tech world with everything from office 365 to windows 8 to xbox live to exchange to hyperV etc. What would the world be like without then? We geeks would be fine we have linux but what about my mum and my sister etc? what about me trying to administer our network without active directory and group policy? Everyone says MS steals technology yet we keep forgeting they are normally the first to come with it they just get beat down or mess it up but they ae there pushing forward and inovating. Windows phone is just one example along with Windows 8 of how MS is set to change the game for the better if only we let them.
Thank you my friend.
There are two major and two minor issues I have with this phone.
First is Pentile. There are two types of people - those who see it and those who don't. I do, so I was thinking about returning the phone at first. Now I'm sort of living with it, but still black text on white background looks like crap to me.
Second is no equalizer.
The two minor issues are the fact that the USB port is located on top of the device and that it has a lid. This is less annoying than Pentile but still very awkward.
Otherwise it's a great phone.
Hey guys,
I bought this Lumia 800 a month ago after an HTC Mozart. And i absolutly love it i really do. The design is gorgeous and WP7 seems to be made for this phone. The camera is alot better than the Mozart.
But here is the thing i have some complaints about the phone:
-The screen i just beautiful when you start reading something on it. The PenTil display make every single pixel visible... And the white are the worse i've seen on a phone. So i think the Mozart screen still had some goodness on its side. But on the Nokia the CBD is just amazing...
-[This issue i maybe due to a hardware problem on mine] The camera button is a 2 stage button like every WP handset but on this one 90% of the time i can't feel the second stage... If i press a little to much the phone takes a picture. The Mozart's button was alot better.
About the power button, the jack being near the usb port etc... I got used to it so i won't complaint about them whether you like them or not it's your choice.
But these are not the issues which push me to creates this topic. I bought this phone thinking that i bought a second gen WP but the Nokia Lumia 800:
-Doesn't have FFC
I knew this before i bought the phone but i learned MS is about to release a Skype app... So Nokia knew about this when they lunched the phone...
Hell no one really uses the FFC so it's not really that big of a problem.
-The lack of gyroscope. I knew about this too but i believed that API which try to replace it with the accelerometer and the compass was well implemented by Nokia.
And that i wouldn't see Augmented reality app appear for WP before 6month a year. But they did Wikitude is out for WP and i absolutly love this app. With the NL800 it's unusable... I tougth Nokia couldn't predict these app wouldn't come so soon on the WP platform neither did I.
Surprise! Nokia publishes a video with their future Augmented Reality app. Few hours after they unveiled the Lumia 900.
-Here is the primary source of my anger and the reason i sold my Mozart it didn't had the Internet Connection Sharing and wasn't getting it because of Orange branding (BTW I'm on WP because i'm fed up with Custom Rom). I believed Nokia when they told users ICS would come really soon.
The fact is i'm still waiting and exept one Topic on XDA no one talks about the interface getting a few centimer on the right...
Here is is the conclusion: I got a Lumia 800 "The first real Windows Phone" but in the end, the only real 2nd Gen spec i got was the one i didn't needed: A faster proc.
My point is not to say this phone sucks or Nokia used us as test but, even they did i really do love it i works perfectly, it's fast and smooth. And the battery last as long as the Mozart.
I just want to know what you guys think about this. I really do love the phone and i'm not trolling i'm trying to understand. Because the new HTC and Samsung phones have the new hardware and ICS...
I apologize for my english to all of you.
Atomos
Not sure what you want people to say. The phone isn't perfect, of course. Neither is the operating system. But we didn't buy the Lumia 800 thinking that it was. You can't complain about non-existing specs if they were never advertised. You bought the phone knowing that it doesn't have a FFC or a gyroscope, or ICS. I wonder if the 800 was a rushed job of just porting WP7 to the N9.
I do agree that the camera button kinda sucks though. Too flimsy.
I compared the screen on Lumia with Samsung Omnia 7 and the Nokias whites looked much whiter.
I've read that the camera button on the 800 does not have a second click by design. It is a soft 'click' as you describe.
The reasoning for this is because the second 'click' causes your hand to shake and thus the camera to shake blurring the image.
I wish i could find the article on this...

As for ICS...
"However, it doesn’t have the benefit of a year’s worth of bugfixes and thus there are times when the software is actually less stable than Honeycomb. A lot of apps have unusually long startup times and render slowly or freeze up on the screen, even if you force the GPU to render 2D operations in the “Developer Options” menu.
And then there’s the dreaded “This App is not responding” dialog which gives you the option to wait or force close the app. But sometimes you’re not so lucky and you need to shut down the OS and re-start to get a stable environment again."

I agree with you but then why Nokia didn't do a great job about replacing Gyroscope? The FFC i don't really need it... But for the Gyroscope if they were thinking that it's not something that our phone needs then why create an Augmented reality app?
For ICS Nokia representative told many and many times that it will come very very soon... Now they are only talking about battery life.
And the N9 have much better hardware exept for the processor.
Can you do me a favor? Can you try Wikitude for me? Maybe i really have a bad Lumia.

That's really clever didn't think about that. I believe you i didn't understand why Nokia wouldn't such a stupid thing without a reason. I was complaining because, you know, sometimes you wait for the moment to arrive and with the L800 it's hard to just focus and wait.

Harder maybe but it doesn't 'click'. My trophy camera button 'clicks' when you take a picture. The OP mentioned his Lumia didn't have this 'click' and i just said it was by design. This has nothing to with how hard it is to push the button.

I was reading Anandtech's review of the Galaxy nexus and he has a big section on the screen. It seems that some peoples eyes perceive the colour of the screen differently. Some people might notice an odd colour where some people observe 'white'.
I have an old Dell 20" widescreen, their first one. A lot of people complained about a 'screendoor' effect that I don't see. A friend of mine did notice it, maybe he'd complain the lumia screen is off-white too?

That's strange for me it's right the Galaxy's White are cream but the HD7 and the Mozart White were really White!
When i see my Lumia's White i don't need to stare at my screen for long i saw it the second i went in Mail application when i got it!
It's really better than the Galaxy S. Maybe it's true it depends on people.
I'm interested about the anand tech review.
About the camera you guys seems to agree about the fact that the second stage is hard to push. Believe me mine is really easy to push. I experienced it today i was trying to take a picture when i pushed the button it took the photo while it was focusing without me pushing hard...
Do you guys think it's a problem? When i don't even use the button it's loose it makes noise when i shake the phone is it normal?
PS: For the Whte i checked in the Diag app if it wasn't the Mail app who had this creamy effect!
Hi guys,
I'm an owner of a lg optimus 3D and i hate it!
So i'm thinking about lumia 800...
But what will i lose from android to Windows phone?
I read about battery problems , ad they bene fixed with update?
Are custom roms usefull?
I had never used zune, can i copy my music folder or its 's horrible like itunes?
Please, if lyou love/hate this phone tell me why so i can choose
Thanks a lot
It's not a bad device, but WP is still in the early stage (in comparison to Android and iOS).
If you can wait, I would recommend you to wait for WP8.
Custom roms are useful, but it's not as easy on Android.
I like flashing roms on my HTC Desire HD, but I've never done that on my Lumia, because I want to keep my data, like pictures and recorded video in my camera.
There's no way to put it back again after flashing a new rom or restoring/resetting your device.
I really like this phone, but I wouldn't recommend you to do the switch right now. Just save some money and get a WP8 device from Nokia as soon as it comes out, it will be much more worth your money. Just hold on for a few months (hopefully really few) and you won't have regrets. Otherwise if you really can't wait you can always get a Samsung Omnia W aka Focus Flash: it really costs a few bucks and offers similar hardware, not to mention the removable battery, which also lasts longer. Oh, and it has a ffc too. It's easy to unlock, so you won't have issues getting Nokia Drive to work on the device, which is a big plus.

yes
WindowsPhone turned out to be good. My priorities are listed as follows in the ascending order:
Meego
Android
Windows
iOs
I dont like being leashed to something, Meego & Android are great. Android has certain inconsistencies wrt looks. The WindowsPhone is better, in that area. The best thing about WindowsPhone is the LiveTiles. It seemed boring & untoughtful in the beginning, then it all made perfect sense after using it for sometime. Its touch is like an 'i' device. But everything is faster & more accessible.
I used to Flash tons of roms on Android. Had a Galaxy Nexus & a SE Arc. Now on WindowsPhone Lumia 710. Loving it.

well, its a different class pretty much.
its better equipped and such (unless you're looking at AT&T, the US carrier carrying the 1520) but then again its larger, which could be either a plus or minus.
Personally, I'd prefer the 920, but if you value big screens, the 1520 could be the way to go. I personally don't expect to see a complete 92x series successor until a significant WP upgrade drops, like 8.1 perhaps.
1520 ticks all the boxes pretty much for me and definetly an upgrade however if it's priced anything over £520 it's not worth it. £500 is fine I would choose this over Note 3, which incidently I also owned.
Love the design build quality camera size...only downside is ofcourse lack of good apps.
If it's too pricey will probably wait for price to fall as I did with nokia lumia 920 which I bought for £165.00.

I wanted the 1020 but wasn't happy as it was just the same body and battery as the lumia 920 so was extremely happy when they announced the lumia 1520
Few reasons why I need it
1) Its got the new Faster Processor and more ram ( future proof)
2) Support for RAW files ( I buy my phones based on their cameras and so this is BIG for me)
Sure the lumia 1020 will support raw as well but those 41mp are just overkill while the 1520's 20mp is more manageble
3) Bigger Battery and Bigger screen so editing etc will be more fun.
I just hope Nokia comes with a built in Raw editor in the future and proper HDR in camera ( I know it dos bracketing shots) but hdr in camera would be benefit or a software to deal with it

3) Bigger Battery and Bigger screen so editing etc will be more fun.

if i were you i would wait for WP 8.1 to appear.. well see, there will be some new devices then - and probably the devices will do a "jump" like we expect WP 8.1 to bring... also i never buy the first device of a new "family" just for the case that there was a problem with the new design...
that saved me back in the days when they changed the iPhone 4 design and had issues, with the antenna
Nope
Not for me. Im buing new Lumia 920 next month.

i usin L920 almost 8 month and for now dont see reason to spend lot money for new models... 920 work great
I like big phone and want one
Still very happy with my 920, everything runs as it should and battery life is good. This is the first phone I had for this long, usualy I changed phone every 2-3 months on android.
I loved my 920 and was very happy with it, Now have a 1520 and it is so much of an upgrade, The screen is a beauty and I actually like the new tile layout, The camera is great compared to the 920s of which I wasn't overly impressed,
Performance wise it is flawless whatever I ask of it, Not that windows phone has ever been slow or laggy but this really is so fluid,
Lumia Black is preinstalled and I had the update through the other day via preview for devs to 10521, Little touches like the coloured glance screen clock are very nice amongst everything that comes with GDR3.
It is a very big phone though so will not be to everyone's taste, If you have large hands and pockets then go for it :fingers-crossed:
I wonder if the 1520 will get the WP9 update from MS

possibly not... it's early to discuss about this... ask question when Microsoft release official hardware compatibility list for WP9... also rumors says WP9 will not be compatible with WP8 because MS start build WP9 from scratch
Just bought one brand new for $400.00 and why don't we have forum for the 1520?
It is too big...
Maybe if rumored Lumia 929 becomes real. :]
Well Lumia 1520 screen is too big. I know it is phablet. But not handy if you want use as phone. I upgraded my Lumia 928 to Lumia Icon and 5" screen for one hand is big. But I'm happy with it. But most of things what I like Verizon Lumia models - design.

I myself have decided to join the Windows phone gang recently. I find 1520 way too big to operate, so I got a 920 instead. Some of my fav wallpapers are not Full HD so I dont have to worry about the pics get stretched.
