I have a Sony Xperia J, and the performance and among others are excellent, but I have a problem due to my own stupidity in using others product memory card loader and screw-up the whole system.
Basically I didn't brick my device it still boot perfectly but the problem is, after boot-up it will shows the error message "Unfortunately, com.sonyericsson.usbux has stopped" = PC can't recognize my device anymor and my device won't recognize the internal and external card anymore.
Is there anyone can help me step by step on how to edit the '\system\ect\vold.fstab' and replace the content of that file, then I think this will solve the problem.
The problem arise when I replaced the file '\system\ect\vold.fstab' with froyo edited version.

You should try replacing the vold.fstab with the stock one. Extract it from a stock ftf for your phone

I have the stock vold.fstab, I've backed up but I can't replace the file cause the \System\ect\ folder are read only and I can't even copy the stock vold.fstab into my device. Any suggestion on how to copy the stock vold.fstab back to the \system\ect\?

Hi i have the same problem, and im advance in the solution first you have to search the app "SOLID EXPLORER" this app lets you make modifications even if the folder is in "read-only mode" now you can modify the vold.fstab file, im stuck here because i dont know how to code the file, so please help me to find the solution.

For your info 'SOLID EXPLORER' does not have any root access and cannot edit protected folder file so can't do anything, but anyhow I've send back my device to Sony Center for RMA and just get back a new replacement, thanks for the reply anyway.
For an advice, next time anyone that wanted to edit or replace the vold.fstab file, copy to root and rename it to vold.fstab.bak so that if you screw up you still can use the root explorer to copy it back to the /system/ect/ folder.

For your info i fix my Xperia TIPO actually i replace the internal SD for the External SD with SOLID EXPLORER but anyway if you dont want to expend 3 hours to writte the code manually you made a good decision.

Now I have a much safer solution for this, I use 2 apps(DirectoryBind and Link2SD both need root access) in order to achieve everything.
1. Partition your External SD Card for use with Link2SD(for my case I'm using a 16gb Class 10 SD Card 1st partition takes whatever space and
leave 1gb for 2nd Partition Primary and format = FAT32)
2. Install Link2SD(from PlayStore) and assign the 2nd partition(make sure you have root access).
3. Check the Auto Link in Link2SD Preference
4. Select External in Install Location(Link2SD)
5. Install DirectoryBind,
6. Create a folder name Bind(or whatever you like to call it) for placing all the bind folders.
7. Create a another folder called 'android' inside 'Bind' folder eg:- /Bind/android/ (for PlayStore Apps Data)
8. Create another folder called 'Gameloft' (if you intended to install gameloft games) and create another 'Gameloft' folder in Internal Storage
9. Now add the External SD Card /Bind/android/ to Source (Data) Path at DirectoryBind and Internal Storage Android /SDCard/android/ to
Mount (target) path, check the 'Transfer files from target to data' (if the source android folder isn't empty) and press Add.
10. Do step 9 with Gameloft folder
11. Select Bind all checked to activate
12. Do the same step 9 for all others apps that create own forlder in internal storage such as Sygic create 'Aura' Folder in your internal storage.
Now you are done and any apps from Playstore or Gameloft the default apps will be linked(placed) in Ext SD Card 2nd partition and Data to Ext SD Card Bind folder

Sony Xperia J Widgets Removing Problems
I have experienced an hair splitting problem to remove short cuts and widgets from Home screen.
The herculean task never shown any results so far. If this gadget is meant for only computer wizards
why the hell the sell it for the common man ! This is impossible for any user. Only the creator can
solve the entangled knots. They should not have sent this model to show cases for public. Please
help if any egg- head can solve it...

My phone is rooted, i've cleaned out most of the bloatware and i'm starting to customize it to my own, but i'm trying to find out where to put my music/ringtones/pictures/wallpapers and i'm kind of lost.
When I mount and open it to view files, these are the folders in my internal storage

For your Music,, you can put them in any folder,, the OS does a screen on the SD Card on every boot and it will detect your music. So basically just put them in a folder named Music.
The Ringtones go in \system\media\audio\Ringtones
Pictures Goes in DCIM, wallpapers can be put in the same directory cuz when the OS scans the SD Card it will detect your wallpapers as pictures.
The built in wallpapers are in an .APK so you can not have your wallpapers added to the built in...
^ I think you could probably take the TWwallpaper .apk and extract it to find the pics and delete/add them and then rezip it?
system/app/twwallpaperchooser/res/drawable-hdpi
this is where the backgrounds are. I wonder if you could just add/delete them in this folder using root explorer?
I have never done it.. but it seems like it could be done.

So, I have the same question (having just successfully flashed), but am confused about the answer. In the poster's question, as in my phone, there is no "system" directory.
I still have bionix-v-1.3.1.zip in the root directory of the internal memory. Apparently the poster had already removed the .zip file of whatever version he/she flashed from the root directory. The only place I can find a \system\media\audio\Ringtones directory is in that zip file. I see all of my currently available ringtones there, and can't find them in any other directory. (This seems odd, as I'd have expected them to be created somewhere else in phone's internal memory, as part of the flashing process).
Are you saying to just go ahead and treat bionix-v-1.3.1.zip like a directory, and drag a file into the directory in that file?
P.s. I have that "is this so obvious to everybody but me?" feeling, since xKrazYx626 seemed to have no problem understanding your answer

Hi everyone,
I had a couple of questions about the calibrate.ini file that you can create to recalibrate your screen.
First question is that, do I just create a blank calibrate.ini file and copy it to SD Card?
Second question is that, is there a risk of messing up my screen if I do this? or is it pretty safe to do it?

You can create the file right from your gtab using your choice of file explorer.
Instructions using ES Explorer:
1. Navigate to /sdcard/ (this is your internal memory...not sdcard2 with is your microsd card if applicable)
2. Hit menu, tap "New" then tap "File"
3. Name the file "calibration.ini" without the quotes
4. Reboot and don't touch the screen until the OS is fully loaded up (not sure if this is necessary, but can't hurt)
5. You're all set! I would then check to see if the file has disappeared from /sdcard/. It should have removed itself.

I suggest trying to add the file to both locations, reboot, then remove both (if they still exist). It won't hurt to have the file in the wrong place.
I have used both the calibration.ini method and the app method (i.e. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934500&highlight=Calibrate) and have not had any bad things happen to my screen (only good things..).
I also went the computer to device route when creating the calibration.ini because i couldn't figure out how to make root explorer make the .ini !

Make sure you put it in the root of the SDcard

Nope. But your screen will (hopefully) be more responsive.
Ok this is going to be a bit of thread necromancy, but another user, GMtom1 was helpful enought to find the thread, albeit for another phone, but this might be able to solve one of the problems people have been having with their phone and it not utilizing the external SD cards correctly. Or not, I'm hoping someone smarter than me can lend a hand.

That is it now your default save location for google music is bound to the location on the external sdcard. the device will see the location as its default but really be saving to the external sdcard.
You can check this by going to google music. Selecting "make available offline" and look at the free space. It should shoe the space available on your external sdcard.
TLR Version (noob version)
I was getting a lot of questions about the preliminary steps here (i.e. rooting, writing script, etc) so i decided to attach the noob version in case anyone needs verification on how to accomplish these steps.
HOW DO I ROOT?
So, Rooting gives you full access and control over your phone. instructions for how to root are device specific. so i would start by searching XDA for "YOUR DEVICE one click root"
ex. samsung galaxy s2 one one click root
some devices are easier to root than others. i cannot provide steps for your particular device, but through XDA, and google you CAN find everything you need.
some devices have one click root tools, some do not, so the rooting process is more in depth for those devices.
rooting instructions are so device specific i could not find a generic set of instructions, and don't want to mislead anyone by linking them to a set of instructions not compatible with their device.
There is a risk of bricking your device (making it inoperable) while rooting, although the risk is minimal... almost non existent if you carefully follow instructions. I have rooted 5 seperate devices without bricking any, and, in most cases even if bricked the device can still be restored.
there are additional benefits to rooting, such as overclocking
for example my Galaxy S2 normally runs at 1.5 GHZ, i have increased the speed to 1.8GHZ
(NOTE** Without XDA DEVELOPERS i would have rooted 0 devices, and probably bricked at least one, so thank you to all of you out there who have helped me, I hope this method will help some of you in return.)
NOW THAT YOU ARE ROOTED...
INSTALL SCRIPT MANAGER..
First, to install script manager just go to google market (Play Store) and search for script manager
INSTALL ES FILE EXPLORER..
To make a script go to google market (Play Store) and find ES File Explorer
WRITE SCRIPT..
Open es file explorer when install completes.
in es file explorer click the menu button, and select "new"
when prompted select "File"
name your file something you'll remember
Ex.MusicScript
Click your new file
when prompted select "Text"
type this EXACTLY how you see it
Mount - o bind sdcard2/music sdcard/Android/data/com.google.Android.music
press back and when prompted to save click yes
MAKE DESTINATION FOLDER..
now on es file explorer click "Favorites" (the star)
a new menu will pop up, at the top you willsee a picture of a phone with "/" underneath it click the phone
this will take you to the root directory
click the folder Sdcard2
click the menu button, and select "new"
when prompted select "Folder"
Name the folder music
Your script and destination music location are created
EXECUTE SCRIPT..
now open script manager
find your script which should be located in the directory /mnt/sdcard and the file name you chose earlier
select the script
open as script/executable
make sure script is selected not executable
click the buttons for "Su" and "Boot"
click save
Go to google music (play music now) settings and clear any music that is currently saved to your device.
this only applies to music made available offline. If you do not clear it before running the script the music will exist on your internal Sdcard but not be accessible.
now reboot the script will run at boot a prompt will appear asking for superuser rights, click yes and remember this selection (it may say something different than remember this selection whichever option resembles remember needs to be selected.)
YOU'RE DONE!!!
your music should now save to sdcard2/music but the device will still think it is saving to the default sdcard/Android/data/com.google.Android.music
You can check this by going to google music. Selecting "make available offline" and look at the free space. It should shoe the space available on your external sdcard.
So try your hardest to figure out how to root using google, and if your not confident enough to attempt it this fix may not be for you.
if you have tried everything you can and are still stuck message me back, including what device you have, and i will see if i can find a link to the rooting instructions for your particular device.
I assume no responsibility if you damage your device... These steps do work, and if followed will fix your music issues as well as introducing you to a world of additional benefits of being a rooted user.

This seems like a workable solution to me but like I said, anyone smarter out there?
I think it would be a lot easier just to change the mounts:
SDCard = External
SDcard2 = internal

I changed the script to say: mount -o bind /external_sd/GoogleMusic/ /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.Android.music/
The issue I was having was the naming convention for the internal & external storage. Depending on the file explorer I used, the name for the external SD card varied from "ext_sd", "external_sd", "sdcard1". The name for the internal storage also varied between "sdcard" & "sdcard0".
Also, some of the threads I found that were discussing this problem had the "/mnt/" in front of the "ext_sd". When I tried that, it didn't work for me.
YMMV, but I thought I would share the solution that worked for me.

THANK YOU, I've been searching for something like this for weeks! I'm going to give this a shot tonight in hopes that I can free up my internal SD which is currently full! I hope this work and I'll keep you posted.
It took forever but i'm rooted, Supersu installed, Busybox installed, Root Checker verified. I still cannot move apps to sd, app2sd program still says external sd is emulated??? Please help, did all this for nothing, it seems!!

Same here. Tried link2sd and it worked once until phone was rebooted, then it can't create script.
I found this at www link2sd info/faq:
In order to use Link2SD you need to do "S-OFF" to disable this NAND lock. (a.k.a. "NAND unlock" or "unlocking the bootloader")
So maybe the bootloader has to be unlocked to move apps to SD. ???

You no need to do all that stuff to increase your phone's internal memory. Using Link2SD on L9 for increasing memory is a HORRIBLE !dea.
If you have a Class 10 (at least Class 8) SD Card with good storage capacity then Just Follow Me:-
1. First Download This script file and Install SManager (free app) from the link below:-
Script
SManager
2. Now use a file manager with root access and copy above script file to /system/etc/ Folder of your device.
3. Run SManager, It will start with explorer. Tap on UP Arrow at top left until the first directory icon left only with "/".
4. Now tap on etc-> /system/etc, in list. It will take you directly to /system/etc/ Folder of your device.
5. Find extsd2internalsd-jellybean.sh file which you copied in 2. Step. Tap on it.
6. An open as ... dialog will appear. Tap on Script/Executable
7. Next dialog will appear with some icons and text with it.

Also this script link is a text file not a downloadable script file, how would i put it wherever it has to go? Copy/paste the text?? So confused....
I found the script but ES file explorer will not allow you to paste it into etc folder.....

Okay Let me clear your confusions.
Before copying script to etc folder es explorer have to obtain root access.
To do so, open es file explorer, tap in a small icon with a globe behind mobile, located at top left of ES file Explorer.
A menu from left side will appear, tap on TOOLS option, it will get expanded.
Now scroll Down until you see ROOT Explorer option with on OFF button.
Tap on OFF button in front off Root Explorer. A message or dialog will appear asking to allow root access to es file explorer (if your l9 is rooted & super user is installed).
Tap on allow. Now the off button should change to ON. Thats it, ES file explorer has gained root access. Now try to copy that script file to etc folder and then follow rest of tutorial.

Does the SD need two partitions? Does this move any system apps to SD? Does it automatically move EVERYTHING else to SD or just apps newly installed after setting this up? Can you control which apps to move and/or move things back to internal? What happens if your SD card fails? Can this setup be uninstalled and revert back to stock? Do apps operate much slower running from SD this way?

But you answered your question yourself, you need to put the .OBB file in android\data\obb folder of your phone memory, and best use a computer to do this, or ES files explorer

i tried to make a folder inside \android\data named obb and put that folder witch contains .obb file..doenst works...i install the game and still ask me to download rest of the data.

that's strange, here try this, download dead trigger 2 and look where it's installed, then you'll see where you have to copy game files

i tried to instal Asphalt 8.
The installed files are in root\mnt\asec\
I cannot copy .obb file from my pc to that directory,he gave me an error like i dont have permision(i have rooted my phone)
I tried to copy with file manager from sd card to that directory and said that is already one file with that name already...:crying:
Obb files are placed in Android/obb in internal memory (or sdcard if your phone has one).
Buy the game. read xda rules about pirate copies of apps/games

ASEC containers are partition images anyway, if you have the actual app already installed move it back to /data using Link2SD then it will have files in the standard locations (/data/app, /data/data, /sdcard/Android)... but then OBB always goes to media partition IIRC

I haven't tried asphalt, but if the app was dl'd through play store, shouldn't the obb file be already in the correct location? (sdcard/Android/(file folder)/.obb file)? Now I understand op is trying to move files from PC to phone. Even if he moved the apk to /data/app or install it the location of the .obb file will not change. Regardless of the apk being installed or not, unless he downloads it through the app, which is not the case. He needs to copy it in the correct location.
