Help me port U-Boot to the i9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to get the Exynos4412 to boot from SDCard. My team (Ralekdev, and Rebellos) are working on decompiling bootloaders and other crazy stuff. Ralekdev has stumbled upon an interesting theory that the Exynos4412 hardware keys are the same across the Exynos4x12 family (GS2, GS3, Gnote, Gnote2, MeizuMX, Galaxy Camera). This means we may be able to boot the bootloaders of any Exynos4x12 device on any other. We need a device to test on though.
So, I'm here to offer a FREE UNBRICKING SERVICE in exchange for letting me use your device for a couple of days to test my theory. No harm will come to your device. Most of the procedure is documented in one of my Samsung Repair manuals and I will be booting the device from an SDCard for testing.
This project has the potential to help out anyone with a bricked Exynos and it can work-around the i9100 "Brick Bug".
So, if you want to help my open-source project which will help out thousands of bricked devices, please spread the word to those having problems. I will unbrick your i9300 device for free if you let me use it for a couple of days.
I gaurantee it will be returned in proper operational condition as long as there is no physical hardware damage to the device.

would love to provide the device but not possible as I live in India
Sorry
but +1 for your project

You found out how to boot the S2/S3 from SDCard in case of damaged bootloaders?
Care to share how to do it?

The S3 only currently. You have to bridge a resistor. it's currently only good for Download Mode. I hope to change that with this project. Once I've got U-Boot on the S3, I can work back to the S2 and forward to the Note/note2.
I've got nothing to report right now. I need a device to work with. Think about it like this.. Someone throws a GS3 my way for a couple of days and that's basically Ground Zero. There will be an explosion of information for several devices and alternate open-source bootloaders capable of running firmware for all other Exynos devices.

Hey
Hey, I live in Ohio and would be willing to help you. I guess my device is bricked.

No response from this guy. I'm still looking for a GS3. DON'T REPLY UNLESS YOU ARE SERIOUS. It just makes this take longer!

I got one I'd be happy to lend to better help the community. Seeing how my Nexus 4 has been getting all the attention anyway. PM me if your still looking for a temp S3.

@AdamOutler, are you still interested on an i9300? Mine has problems with power button. Sometimes power off popup arises an it reboots automagically.
Would send from Spain.

[Q] how to uninstall cyanogenmod 10 from galaxy s2 i777 trackfone/straight talk

ok..so here's the problem i have a Samsung galaxy s2 i777 from track-phone/straight talk (im not sure what it is...) it was sold to me online i reset the whole phone and this cyangenMod thing keeps coming up when it boots up after the factory reset I don't want it on the phone but i have no idea how to uninstall it or get rid of it. i just want to get the phone back to how it came out of the box like a new phone but i'm at a lost i've tried the oden program and the phone wont connect to it. i don't know what files it needs or what i have to do i'm at a complete and total loss...
if someone could help me out with this it would be a REALLY big help to me thank you to anyone who reads this and an even bigger thank you to the person(s) who help.
Why would you want to get rid of CyanogenMod? It's quite possibly the best thing to ever happen to phones.
Especially if you're running cm10.1, it's 4.2.2

I want to get rid of it cuz I have no idea what is what it can do or why it's even there I'm not a big fan of mods and if I were to mod anything i would do an extreme amount of research of how to install and uninstall with cm I have no idea what's going on

You want to get rid of it? Easy
Option 1: return it to seller, demand s/he send you another one with pure stock firmware on it, not a custom one or request for the refund.
Option 2: reverse back to stock (from CM) yourself. Since you're here, you should have read anyway, so read up those threads especially the stickies and DIY.

The other posters Actually have given you good advice, and it appears that they have pointed you to the place to answer your question! Really!
It sounds like you have a modified Straight Talk phone (please note that the ATT version is I777 and the ST version is S959G. It would be interesting to know whether you have an I777s or S959G).
IF you have an S959G, then your best bet is to check the thread posted down below as Phalanx and the others have mentioned --it's literally below the post you created (several posts below now, just look for the title "Straight Talk SGS2- SGH-S959G" (<- or click on these "straight talk" words)
It may seem frustrating to get a phone that is customized, and right now you just want a phone; However, you actually have one of the nicest and newest roms available for this type of phone!
IF your phone boots CM10.1 and you have the normal android screens, then you have everything that the ST or AT&T company would provide on a "normal" phone, but without some of the junk and advertising that often infects our phones! Try it out! The interface is not that much different from "stock."
Still, if you don't like your phone that way, YOU can fix it and it is not really hard, but just takes some reading and patience to gain understanding of the techniques and processes (learning the principles also is interesting! :laugh
But it will take you at least a few hours of reading, and a bit patience to scan through the Straight Talk links and pages. If you do that you'll see others who have your issue, and also others who turned the issue around to make it a plus!
A modified phone is more of a commitment than a stock phone -but it returns more to the user! Especially if you want to adjust it, enhance it, or appreciate it, you have to put in time.
If that's not for you -perhaps turn it around on ebay. But a working CM10.1 on a Galaxy S2 is a good machine!
Good Luck
Good Luck

So i sent the phone to them....1 week later (today) I get a call from Josh saying all is well and I am downgraded successfully and it would ship out today. i can't say enough about MobileTechVideos, and their site is packed with info and videos. check them out!

I have spent a vast amount of research and hands on technical work on downgrading
From: VRUEMJ9 4.3
To: VRALJB 4.1.1
And it possible. The problem isn't downgrading the ROM, it's the bootloader, it consistently stays at a 4.3 Bootloader while the ROM is at 4.1.1. Your post looks more like a promotion/advertisement, therefore I ask you OneFast50, can MobileTechVideos:
1) Downgrade the bootloader
2) Unlock the bootloader
3) Load a custom recovery (CWM, Philz, TWRP).......
4) Furthermore installing a custom rom?
If Josh at MobileTechVideos can accomplish all this, then Josh and his peeps are gurus and I will happily send them my phone, tuck my tail between my legs, and hats off to them! Taking it a step further, this is what fellow techies really want: If we could please get a technical post by [email protected] here on XDA describing the process that him and his team used to perform the four requirements above. This would be the most beneficial post that the rest of the Note II SCH-I605 4.3 community could really appreciate. Awaiting a follow up OneFast50
Yes that's the service they offer and obviously they aren't going to post how to do it or they would lose business

We are the only source I am aware of for offering this downgrade. When you get your device back, it will arrive with stock 4.1.2 firmware, unlocked bootloader, root access and custom recovery. Everything you need for a custom rom flashing experience. 4.3 update got ya down? Get back your innocence by downgrading!
Technical aspects: This is NOT a DIY method as it involves removing and reprogramming the eMMC chip from the main board. Essentially, we are removing the eMMC, uploading and the old bootloader with a proprietary programmer and then reinstalling the chip. I have received permission from Adam Outler to give a more thorough post about this procedure. The service is also live and can be found on our store (just Google us).

I believe the z3x and Easy JTAG can do this, but that's only if you can solder direct ISP, breadboard, and then hope there's no shorts and you didn't damage any tracers. Go with MobileTechVideos. I've heard nothing but excellent things about you guys.

Thanks again Josh
Joe
I would just like to CONFIRM with the first few posts that it can be done.
In addition to the above methods described:
1- Send It Away
2- eMMC
There are other ways as well. I have successfully downgraded the bootloader with a RIFF Box and weeks of communication with a friend in Turkey.
I am only posting this to let others know that there are other methods and that they shouldn't give up hope on someone unlocking it one day. I unfortunately cannot unlock the bootloader.
Any DEVS or Members that are actively working on unlocking the bootloader on a realistic level for the community (not for personal use or knowledge) can contact me through PM if they have any questions.
I will NOT be answering ANY questions in this thread. Sorry.

ur alive its been a long time but honestly why cant we just dd the old bootloader? this isnt qualcomm and none of the new 4.3 firmware is attached to bootloader. the s3 has ties with aboot and sbl1 aka if u flash new firmware on old bootloader u brick or if u flash old firmware on new bootloader u brick(s3) the note2 isnt like that we can use full 4.3 firmware on 4.1 and vice versa.. unless its somehow tied to the pbl.. which i really have no idea about.

I understand what your saying. First off, I have zero affiliation with either of those developers. I made that post purely for other moderators to understand that I come in peace. There is such a fine line to walk on these forums when you have some sort of a profitable organization. I always make sure I'm within the bounds of the XDA rules and guidelines so I made that post to help make sure the thread was not closed. Adam in no way benefits from any of my work is 100% a man of the community for those that know him. Anyhow, I'm confident those guys are working on a DIY solution but the issue here is that currently, there simply is not one.

gotcha thanks josh, i didnt mean the above post in a disrespectful way towards either of you guys. was just curious, re reading it it might of sounded a little hostile but it was more of how i guess i read the other post. thanks for clearing up any confusion and ya i know adam is a good guy i have talked to him quite a bit in the past. hopefully him and lee are working on something DIY although last time i talked with adam he said the device is old now and he doesnt want to work on it anymore.. i guess time will tell.. i have been reversing casual and going through the peices/comparing to stock files etc. to see how it was originally done more so for personal knowledge and to see if i can replicate it at all but i doubt i will be succesful lol.. all i have to say is it was really unique how it was originally done
thanks for being a fan, i am as well, i have sent you a cpl devices in the past. iirc was a old gtab 2 and the s4 when me7 first hit. you do great work and i have always reccomended you!
I'd imagine it's as simple as erasing/re-provisioning the RPMB and either bypassing write protection on the eMMC or change it via EXT_CSD registers.

He should be back soon.... I hope.

How many different model phones are you gonna start a thread stating you can downgrade bootloader versions? You post with no information or proof. Then you say "that's all I'm gonna say about it" or you state its through JTAG or a riff box. Then you request that the thread gets closed.
Close this one too and move along.

Agreed. On S4 and older, there's only ONE way to legitimately downgrade. That's to do a MoviNAND format + reset so the rollback protection bytes are wiped from the RPMB. You must do this via Direct eMMC ISP. It certainly is possible via JTAG, but I HIGHLY doubt he had the resources or information to do so, unless it was stolen, in which case he's in jail for it.

ubuntu touch on vs985

I have talked to Verizon they say they they have no problems running ubntu if I want to but not covered for warranty or insurance... ehhh no biggie.... so has anyone tried it yet ? I know I had seen a thread but its old... just wondering has anyone attempted yet ?
Why would you even ask verizon. I haven't used it personally. If you do use it and need warranty or insurance just put it back to stock first. Insurance claims don't even go through verizon tho.

Why not insurance would have paid for this phone just off monthly payments and I'm out of warranty anyways... They have have joined ubuntu cag so maybe they know of a dev trial that I don't wanted to see what info they had they actually support you with this as they're trying to get devs back to Verizon since the dev group is pretty slim at Verizon. But the questions is asked was more of the anyone have info on it running successfully or not...
I would love to see someone work on porting this over. Apparently Ubuntu has a guide to port using AOSP or CM - https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/start/ubuntu-for-devices/porting-new-device/

Sweet! Definitely understand ...gotta get paid first. I was looking at installing Kali Linux on my phone too but seen a lot of people with issues, so I stayed away. I might try it on my old Nexus 7 tho. Looking forward Ubuntu though!!

Yes! Thanks man! I've been waiting forever for someone to port Ubuntu Touch to the VS985. Really wish I had the coding knowledge to do it myself, but I don't, so I will be eagerly awaiting your Ubuntu Touch release!
rh300zx any ideas when you might get started on this? Just curious is all
already have lol

sorry for the delay i know i kind of let this slide to the back of my priorities... i have images to flash but am trying to find a way around the bootloader... i flashed the files to my phone and got myself a nice messy secure boot error which everyone including senior devs told me i couldnt fix. I did fix the secure boot (hard brick) issue so i guess really a soft brick.... finding a way around secure booting
is now my issue... keep watching for more news... again sorry for the delay

Sorry if I'm rude, but I'm sick and tired of people clogging up the forums because they did something they weren't supposed to do. THERE IS NO ROOT METHOD FOR THE S6 EDGE PLUS! There is no firmware you can download to my knowledge, so you might be screwed, I'm afraid... Also, if KNOX detects that you made changes to the /system partition (most likely what happened here) it will brick your device and there's no way you can fix it. You have to pay for a full replacement ($650 I believe). Let this be your lesson. Only do something to your device if:
1. It's ment for your device
2. It's been proven to work
Once again, sorry if I'm being really rude and unhelpful right now, but, as I said above, there is no root method and I'm sick and tired of people who think they know what they're doing but really don't and then they come crying to us asking to magically fix their device.
Sincerely,
Nick

Yes you are rude and a jerk. And you should be banned from this site. I was about to ask a question, related to this post, but I quit. You did mistakes, you did something you shouldn't do and you did get help from others, I'm 100% sure. But you seems to forgot that, and you get sick of people who needs help. You should see a doctor and get better, if you are so sick. I'm leaving this site, it seems that people who made a mistakes can't fit in. THIS SITE IS POPULATED ONLY BY MASTERS. So, **** off MASTER!

I'm sorry for exercising my first amendment right. You can't ban me for that. Also, I kind of answered this person's question. Here's what I basically said without the ranty parts:
1. There's no way to root this device
2. There's no firmware (at least for the Verizon variant) for this phone.
3. KNOX may have bricked his/her device due to the modification of the /system partition.
1 is the reason, 2 is the answer, and 3 is the explanation. The 3 parts of conducting an effective answer to a question.
OP, your best bet is to try to call Samsung or Verizon and try to lie your way into getting a free replacement. I did that for when I accidentally wiped my entire internal storage on a Kindle Fire 2nd gen. All I said is it all of a sudden started doing what problem I was having, and they said they would send out a free replacement.
Best of luck,
Nick

I have to agree its all over this board that there is no root for this phone as of right now. It should be obviously clear when you go in to the development section and its blank. Just because one carrier has a phone that's rootable doesn't mean the root works on other devices carriers.

This is exactly what I was trying to say. We can all hope that there will be a root method soon, but for now, don't go doing something that you aren't supposed to do to your certain phone yet.

Currently, v60 can't be mixed and brushed, right?
目前来说,v60还不能混刷吧?

Not sure yet, I've been stuck on a phone that I'm trying to get out of the way, although I've been considering just moving on to the V60 as I feel I may be heading toward a dead end on the other phone.
News to come, though.
Any updates @haise.zero ? Bought this beauty for myself but im missing out on the EU Firmware :/
Shizuku and an activity launcher that leverages shizuku to perform privileged launches can launch a hidden menu activity that allows you to change the model number.
You might be able to flash to something else with the same OPID that way.
Edit: more information later when I'm on my computer and can provide actual details.

Hasn't still be a way to update the ATT v60 or to cross flash? I think I can't wait anymore but to trade it for another device or sell it off since I'm stuck on June 2020 update

How far is this project of ATT version of v60 going? Has there be any success?

So would that be something like the WTF! method to change the model for the v30? My V30 was a sprint but I was able to change it to the US998 model with that method, thus allowing me to use the custom ROMS for that model. Could something like that be possible for this phone?

I'm not familiar with the V30 or its process, but the process I mentioned would be the way to change models and crossflash over to a less restricted model version to allow easier downgrades and modifications, yeah. It'd (probably) let you work with it through LGUP after a model name change and an OP partition swap

I haven't done much of anything lately. Life has been taking up all of my time.
I ordered new computer parts so that I can finally upgrade to a Ryzen build (been running an FX processor for forever now) and get some real development done. Also hoping for some more spare time soon.
I'll be working on a ROM coupled with a custom recovery primarily but I do understand the importance of needing more people to unlock their devices. This is also something I'm still working on.
My previous partner Codeon doesn't have a V60 nor the time to work on it if he did have one anyways so it's mostly just been me lately and even I haven't done much for a while now.
Hoping I can change that. I'm trying to dedicate my time today to this phone, but as far as getting EDL to work with us without that god damn proprietary GSM box crap, it's just out of my league and I don't understand it. I do know of someone who may be able to help with that and I'll be reaching out to see if they can lend a hand or not.
Sorry for things going so slowly. Thank you for your patience, guys, especially because I know it's running thin right now.
Please update us.

No problem. But I have sold that AT&T crap and I'm hoping to get another v60 later in the future when things gets better and developments starts. So for now, I'm a owner of galaxy note 10 plus. I hope you guys find a way soon
