New to Verizon and Verizon Devs - HTC Droid DNA

Coming from ATT, thinking about the DNA, my question is will it be receiving DEV support here? AOKP? Just wanting your opinions because I don't know your community. Thanks for any responses

seems harder to get aosp/aokp on cdma devices, but its not for lack of trying. RIL is almost always tougher. Most htc devices on verizon have an aosp ROM or 2, but they usually have broken features.

Meh, bout the only thing that's normally broken is Bluetooth, and sometimes video recording, other then that, it works. :good:

Can you guys still recommend this device?

I'm still using an htc inspire, and I've tried att latest and greatest like the note and one x and they haven't been perfect or lack of Rom support that made me run. I just want to be able to flash cm 7 or 9 roms, any other roms I may wish and this att device dev support seems to be going strong. This device is probably considered older now and with the sgs3 coming soon, well by the time it reaches att who knows. Does this device lag with its older processor??

One word. Yes.
The device is amazing, I highly reccomend.
What answer do you really expect us to give you other than "yes"? Do you really think people in this forum is going to tell you no? Sounds to me like you already made up your mind to get this phone if you didnt like the Note or the OneX.
How about bln support, is that compatible with most roms? Say cm custom builds whether built in or not?

Well people here could also say, just wait for the sgs3....etc etc...just curious to see if it's still highly recommended at this point.

I would absolutely recommend this device. It may be considered last year's technology, but the dual core Exynos is still a great processor. The phone doesn't lag on stock firmware, and on the better custom firmwares, it flies. Rom support is unparalleled for a US based phone, partially because of the commonality between the i777 and the international i9100.
It is true that the S3 is on the horizon, but I would honestly rather have my S2 than that monstrosity.

Sort of. I'm running AOKP right now, which is a purely Google-based rom, and BLN works flawlessly for me(with the right kernel, of course). However, if you run a Samsung based rom, BLN will not natively work for SMS messages. There are workarounds using Tasker profiles, but theyre usually pretty sketchy. Short answer...yes, if you're running the right rom and kernel, BLN is supported.

Depends on the rom and kernel... But really, is BLN going to make or break your decision?

Not a deal breaker but a handy feature when you lack an led notification light, I'm using the BlackICE Rom which uses it.
@mattdm that is a good point, dev support seems huge compared to other att android devices.

BLN can be pretty important to some people. I came from a BlackBerry, so it's almost essential to me to be able to see if I have a text from across the room.
Yes, I still like this phone. Hell the original Galaxy S is still going strong development wise and this one should do the same.

I miss the keyboard too. It was the one thing that made me choose a BlackBerry over an iPhone four years ago. I still hate the iPhone keyboard because of the lack of haptic feedback and the complete lack of customization options. Android is better though...with so many options for keyboards and setups, it almost makes up for not having physically keys...but I still miss them occasionally.

Honestly? Out of the box, the OneX works great. Even though the bootloader is currently locked, the phone works just fine the way it is and nothing really needs to be added to it. However, the OneX does have root and so you can install customs roms, just nor kernels or radios. Several tweaks, mods and roms have been created and flashes successfully.
On the flipside, the GSII is completely unlocked and there are several rom/kernel choices. There is some of the best Dev work done on XDA right here in this forum, so if your really interested in Dev support and choices, this is the phone to get.
Both phones are great. You just have to look at hardware specs, Dev support and see which road you want to take.
A yes from me as well.
For future, up-coming device such sgs3, if it will be released next week or two, then it might worth waiting but in this case, just a rumor, no officially released date yet, it could be months from now and even if released, what happen if it gets locked bootloader? It's not worth waiting if you're ROM-flashaholics.

Oh geez, I'm so behind, honestly I don't have time looking elsewhere but the i777 , thanks m8
I picked up the SGSII a month ago and absolutely love it. A huge upgrade from the previous generation (captivate).
I suspect that, much like desktop computers, going from one to two cores is significant, but you get diminishing returns after that.
Only downside is if you want true 4G. I spend so much time with wifi that I don't care.

I'm definitely taking the dev support road. Thanks.
One of my last concerns is battery life. More of it having to do with charging time. I think I remember with the stock Rom charging times were slow from a wall charger if I remember reading this. Have charging times improved with custom roms/kernels?
I think Samsung devices in general have a bad rep with charging times?
I haven't seen any issues with charge times, but my expectations may be low. I have not timed it, but I would estimate under 3 hours to charge from less than 20% to full.

Wifi Calling On Google Edition

Does the HTC One Google Edition support Wifi Calling on T-Mobile?
Before jumping to "No", please only answer if you specifically know for a fact first-hand. I know it's not apart of stock android, but HTC wrote the firmware and there are other manufacturer specific changes like Beats Audio that's included.
Thanks
Just found out from another member who has one and is on T-Mobile that it doesn't support it

Negative Ghost Rider.
The Nexus 4, sold right in T-Mobile stores, doesn't include Wifi calling. It's simply not possible on the AOSP build.
If you want/need Wifi calling, DO NOT get an AOSP phone. It will never work.
It's not just as simple as "hey, flash this .apk and you're off!" Wifi calling goes very deep into the ROM and just isn't available on an AOSP device.
If you disagree, please go over to the N4 forum and collect your $1400 bounty for getting Wifi calling to work on AOSP. It's just not possible at all on the N4 and the S4/One is no different. You've been warned!

It's not there now, but do we know for certain its on the rom and not in the kernel? Because unlike in the nexus 4, from what I understand the manufacturers have control of the kernel on The One and S4 GE, meaning they could release it in the future... It's how there's Beats Audio (I think) but also why there isn't aBeats Audfio notification icon

Not going to happen. Feel free to bookmark this thread and call me out but it won't happen.
When you add beats, IR, Zoe, WiFi calling etc...you might as well have a stock ROM. Too much carrier noodling IMO. Just use stock Sense.

Maybe, but that's not a fact. That's just a prediction. There's no official statement saying one way or the other, and so far there's only evidence showing the opposite through the implementation of Beats. You could definitely be right though, but also could be wrong. I think it's more dependent on whether or not the code changes are in the kernel or in the Rom. Manufacturers of Google Editions can't do much (if anything) to the Rom. But they do have control of the kernel from what I understand (which that and $2 can buy you a cup of coffee )
I love Stock Android, as it sounds do you. But we like it for different reasons. I like the UI and the behavior (and actually intensely dislike those in Sense or Touchwiz). I however have no objection and in fact welcome additional lightweight and optional features that can be added via the kernel and/or settings. Things such beats, IR, Zoe, Wifi calling, etc are all unobtrusive and in my mind are nice to have. The only way to fully avoid those is with a Nexus. Google Editions on the other hand are more of an open game, and I wouldn't rule out what manufacturers may add.
If only they hadn't destroyed the buttons on the GEs....
There is no way to get AOSP or AOSP derived ROMs to boot with WiFi calling as it stands. See attached screen shot to see what folders and build.prop gets changed with WiFi calling.

Well that sucks Sounds like it needs ROM changes then, in which case, yeah I agree...not gonna happen, unless wifi-calling became carrier neutral. Oh well. Thanks

I should've been less callous when I made this post, but I'm aware of your GE attempt, and it's time for a more experienced dev to make this ROM happen. I'm really tired of the radio issues with yours. I've tried nearly every update you have created since your original and it doesn't appear a whole lot of progress has been made over the last month, In fact I'm pretty sure your 4.6 edition with smoother than this last one.
I constantly have issues with the radio, and the carrier banner has yet to be even removed (much less fixed, although I would just be happy with it being removed).
I appreciate the effort, but Im hoping that someone can create a smooth GE dump and have it be done with. I absolutely hate touchwiz, and Im tired of this touchwiz AOSP skins when the real thing is so much better.
Nitro's Eclipse s4 GE dump is pretty nice, but it still has the same radio issues as yours. But at least he got the carrier banner removed. I kind of like the inverted stuff too, but ive been waiting months to see the power of the GS4 behind stock android.... without ANY issues

You know what I meant, i just used a bit of hyperbole. Its AOSP with TW elements underneath. The AOSP may go a little bit deeper than the skin, but its still pretty much AOSP outside and TW inside. TW inside was the OP's issue, and its inextricable from an S4 GE ROM. If you take all the TW elements away, its not really a GE ROM anymore. Unless Dubsy misinformed us, which I doubt.
And the OP's other issue, the radio, is pretty much always the main issue when porting from another device.
GE GS4s are getting the 4.3 updates as of today. Hopefully someone will come out with a 4.3 GE dump soon (that runs smooth)... fingers crossed

Got to say I am with you on getting a good GE ROM. I have not tried Dubsy's latest, but nitro's 1.5 is pretty dang smooth. I had a few data drops yesterday, but I didn't notice any today (didn't use the phone as much, though), so if the data drops, it must come back. Going to be on radio all weekend, so I will get more experience with it. I think its stable enough for a DD.
Both Nitro's and Dubby's run fantastically with no data drops!
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk 2
I am really hopeful for Nitros. I was using his yesterday and liked it, but I still would like the radio to be ironed out.
Dubsys had many little issues that made it impossible to use on a daily basis. One problem I continue to have is that any phone number starting with "+1" must be redialed without the +1... half my contacts are like that and it is incredibly annoying.
For the amount of time Dubsy has had to work on it, I feel like this issues should've been addressed by now. I think I speak for a lot of the community here when I ask for a more experienced developers help on this GE port.
There is not and will not be a Google Experience S4 for Verizon. Porting the international version requires a ton of adjustments to make the radio functional for us. Dubbsy has really stepped up for us and done way more than he initially planned. Nitro took that base and added some nice things as well. Without their work, we may not have anything GE-related at this point. Be patient and have fun with what we get. Not good enough? Become a dev, or switch to AT&T.

True, but I actually am fairly upset, because while dubbsy claims to be doing this project, it may be detracting other devs from taking on the project themselves. I am getting tired of flashing each *new* update, which doesn't appear to be fixing any of the bugs. Then I have to odin, re flash etc etc, which takes hours of time. It has been over a month that I have been watching these projects and seen little improvement, and like I said, I am sure I am not the only person I speak for when I say this.

In my experience from other phones, 98% of roms are works in progress through the life of the phone. Yes most get to a "stable" point, which is subjective, but unless they're heavily stock-based it takes awhile if it ever gets to that point. Coming from an HTC phone I have seen devs jump ship due to forum/community issues, so I may be sensitive to these types of comment. I

I really don't care if you're upset to be honest. Don't follow my threads, and don't use my roms... Pretty simple really.
From the beginning I posted a proof of concept to prove data alone, nothing else. I said for devs to contact me and I'd send the files for them to maintain. When it was clear no one was going to pick up and run with it I started modifying the framework to be at least a bit more stable. With the open offer still out there to share a fully decompiled GE working folder in a shared cloud.

AOSP/CM12 development?

I've noticed that CM12.1 is already out for many devices, do we have a developer with the Cyanogenmod team working with Hima?
Man I been wondering the same thing I'm so ready to flash lol
There's been zero mentioning of it so far. What with hima being so easy to make roms for, I wanted to see if any devs might let us know. I'm also curious if we'll see the phone get clocked back to 2ghz.

I would attempt it, but I have quite a few questions. I've done it for the M7 before with no problems (even had a thread with nightly builds etc.), but with the M9 being rather new, a lot of things are still up in the air:
No proprietary blobs (usually I would use TheMuppets, but they haven't updated blobs for M9...yet) I could probably pull these using another extract-files.sh from GitHub for the M9, but are all proprietary blobs the same between all M9 variations?
No MSM8994 AOSP kernel (that I can find)
Sprint hasn't released kernel source yet so there goes that option
Everything else is pretty self-explanatory though

I have cm 12.1 on my m8 and it runs so beautifully... I even activated it for a day just to use it and see what I was missing.. (thats right.. missing from an older generation phone). I will say that cm12.1 was a real treat but the data issues that plagued mine (and pretty much all of us m9 owners in b41 areas) were still there on the m8. Let me be clear that b41 worked better but i still had data drops and data inconsistencies. Plus single strength was equal to the m9. I really do believe sprint has (at least started to) fix their data provisioning issues on their end for the m9 because my data service has been much better.

Not surprising to hear...seeing how we're both running CDMA data. Booo...CM12 + CDMA = Very shaky data imo

Yea this was the first time I had/noticed the issue on cm12 with my m8. But i did run it stock for a few hours just after re-activating it so i could get the latest profile and prl, etc and I had unexplained data issues on stock too. It could just be my locations and the issues were not enough to drive you nuts really.
Now my N5 on sprint was bad a lot of times haha.. I loved the phone but it had its first triband growing pains. Still not as bad as users i know with the n5 on gsm network specifically tmo.. That wast truly bad.
Anyways, sorry about the OT. Back on topic now
It's coming!!!!!! https://github.com/Hima-Dev/android_device_htc_hima-common
Cm12 is in the works. About another month or so until it's really ready for daily use, though I can't say for sure what kind of luck we'll have with a sprint build.
A lot of the other devices are much easier to work on because htc released a ton of kernel sources for a lot of the international and Asian devices, but ZILCH for Sprint. That means we're unlikely to see a rom without sense for a while.
Well, that's not exactly true... With working RIL, we'll probably get a build not terribly long after everyone else, but let's just say my hopes aren't terribly high with htc seemingly being jerks about releasing a damn bit of useful code for the Sprint m9 (or any CDMA m9 for that matter)
I'd be happy with some decent radios, honestly. Struggling to get even a tiny bit of LTE signal in an area where my LG G2 was full LTE all the time after flashing a new radio makes this a little irritating...But that's a topic for another thread.
The first beta is here!!! Sprint version coming soon

Most of it is broken, and apparently they have to make a version separate from the cdma versions. Hopefully we'll have the same as the M8 where one build supports all devices. Still, cannot wait for nightlies.

I remember cm saying that were going to make a unified build for all versions of the phone when the started dev on the m8.. it would be strange for them to change their mind so hopefully we do get the same thing as the m8. I would also love to get the same amount of attention as the m8 does those builds are perfect.

Wow this phone is not supported like other HTC

No offense to OMJ. I am just suprised we have no other ROMS for this phone.

yep, right now the only one that supports sprint yet is ViperONE, because of the resent firmware update, we haven't got yet, but the first ones they put out prior to the update have sprint support, go to international thread and read up on it.

LeeDROID v7.6.0 also supports sprint.
Why aren't these roms present in the Sprint section I wonder? Seems odd as nobody would think to check the international forums.

easier for the devs to monitor one thread than a bunch.
Well they can do what Viper did and create a small thread with links then lock it
I blame htc lol
these forums are dead because of 2 reasons:
1) the M9 was not much of a upgrade from the M8
2) overheating issues
HTC took it on the chin w/ this one...

yup...I think a lot of people didn't see the M9 as a real upgrade to the M8 and only for those who didn't jump from M7 to M8 combined with the horrible press about the overheating (I've yet to experience) and camera (love the camera updates for what I use it for) and whining about it not being 4k (seriously, who needs that on a phone?) means it's not been a very popular device.
Screw 'em...I think it's a huge upgrade from the M7, especially the camera (even in it's original iteration).
Many thanks to @OMJ @benny3 and @chas123 for supporting this device.

This maybe true but another thing to point out is that this phone is so complete that there is hardly anything left to mod or add. I'm mean the only thing left for you to add to the phone is to add the 5.1 update to your ROM. Other then that your ROM is so complete its been on REV 24 for over a month with nothing else to add or tweak. Of course there is the point you already made that this phone being so close to the M8 that your ROM was already matured through the M8 days.

I could agree, but I'm still looking for a CM/AOSP flavor to rock on mine... And not to mention before the latest updates, we could still flash all those feature loaded ROMs. But lately, I'm hesitant to flash anything other than BadBoyz.

This is especially true when it comes to theming. You pretty much can theme it the way you want very easy. Im not a big themer or theme design, this latest Android 5.1 is very difficult to theme. Since its still new quite a bunch of apks are not compiling correctly and im not that skilled yet or have the time lately to figure out why, LOL. Other then the Viper Theming threads not much Theming has been going on throughout all HTC M9 versions.
You are better running badboyz for sprint, our firmware is extremely sensitive and with so many international versions using their base, our lte issues arrise of we aren't using a rom that supports our phone properly.

Traded my flex2 for a HTC One m9, rooted it, unlocked it, and then I installed badboyz the very first day. Love it. I'm so used to having cm/aosp on all my devices and I customize the crap out of them but I have to say that I have hardly seen any lag or performance issues on this phone. The phone gets pretty warm when doing heavy tasks like playing a game and what not but I don't find it any different then other devices doing the same tasks.
Either way, I love the m9. It's a well built solid device. I jumped at the chance to trade haha. Their loss

I will say this is probably the least active forum I have seen out of all the HTC's I have own which is every flagship for Sprint since the evo 4G (even going back to TP1 & TP2). That being said, OMJ's badboyz is awesome I have been using it since I got the phone. There is also no red text hboot and custom splash screens just like my M8 had. I like this phone, while really not much different from my M8 besides the camera it's not as big of fail as people make it out to be. I'm hoping the M10 is a nice refresh and hopefully HTC is done with trying camera gimmicks. I would like to see higher resolution screen next year & wireless charging.

The majority goes on in the overall m9 forum and not sprint as I guess devs don't want to check multiple forums.

I really don't see where development is lacking. As many have said there are quite a few roms in the main m9 forum that offer sprint support. If you look at the cm development device tree sprint support is added. What's missing?
LeeDroid, and Insertcoin drains horrible.......... lol any suggestion?
