[Q] i777 multiple errors - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hello guys,
I have never posted on the forum before, yet read and used some info to troubleshoot different situations I have been through, so hi to everybody.
But this time I am facing a weird problem, which is presented as follow,
The phone suddeny toggles very fast between driving mode, voice talk, etc. Even a couple of times when I was talking to someone, it toggled to speaker mode, which you can imagine is very annoying. Also, Google Maps went crazy, as in less than five minutes, it showed me in 7 different countries all around the globe, and in the middle of the ocean (location pointed using wifi, not gps per se)
And I shall also comment that I was having trouble to get it charged, said something like the voltage was too high; the only way I could charge the battery was turning off the phone and then charging it.
Guess I am lucky that my PC still recognizes the phone without problem, and I can access all my stored files, but I don't know for how long it will last like this, so I am kind of in a hurry here to fix the problem while I still have the tools to try to.
I want also to denote that I did let the poor guy fall to the floor a couple of times in the past, nothing too serious though, but it is very strange that all these errors I told you about started when the phone was doing nothing but charging on my desk from my port USB on my PC, and a lot of time, say weeks, after the fall to the floor incidents.
My specs are
Android
4.0.3
Baseband
I777UCLE5
Kernel
3.0.15-I777UCLE5-CL652575

Thank you guys for taking your time to read this, and thank you in advance for helpping me out in anyway you can.

I have absolutely no idea, but I can offer this:
Remove ALL personal files.
Create backups of apps (TiBu).
Have a copy of the ROM you want downloaded.
Do a complete full wipe.
Do it again.
Flash the ROM.
Reboot and let us know.
Until someone more knowledge chimes in, this will help to eliminate any possible software failure.

Random restarts

Hey guys just curious but has anyone else had any problems regarding to the phone just randomly switching itself off and then back on again? This has happened to me a few times now and thought i'd see if anyone else had, had this happen to them and knew what was causing it or any information at all really.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has any ideas!
Unless of course it is just me which would really suck.
I saw you debranded your phone.
Those restarts happened before too? If yes, you might want to send it to warranty.
If no, is the new firmware so, you might want to flash the old firmware again
Yeah sorry i should have mentioned that the random restarts occurred before and after the debranding. I think I may need to send it in
this same thing is happeining to me?? like once a day??? its really wierd...
I haven't debranded or anyhting and it has only started happening for the past week or so (I've had the phone for a month)
It happens to me when I connect my phone to my PC via USB and select "Mount".
Every time!!
Weird...
sadly this is a hardware issue... Whenever the phone warms up a little bit.
I didn't have that issue in the first months but ever since then and more and more frequently. Right now I'm fighting with o2 to get a new device, because this doesn't seem to be repaired.
Do the following test to make sure you have that hardware-bug:
Let the battery charge for a while. When you notice your phone getting a little warm, open a few applications (google maps, navigation, mediascape) whatever... The phone should immediately restart itself.
When you remove the battery cover it might also smell a little burnt.
Congrats... You're affected and it's only gonna get worse...

[Q] Is it Hard Bricked? Only Green Light ONLY when plugged to PC

Hey everyone,
Long time member here (used to be a wm cook way back when) i'm a bit atrixed out at the moment here. Currently overseas working for digicel (st. kitts), contracted through ATT, and I've been using an Atrix since last december. Anyways lost the first one in August (baggage) then the replacement got the screen issue, so ATT shipped out a third one to my location (I promise you they didn't want to) and now that one has taken a fun bath into a bucket of cleaning supplies thanks to my cleaning lady.
Well I had unlocked the new one (that is now in rice) Oclocked the whole 9 yards. Who knows if that'll ever turn back on.
My other one with the touch screen issue, I figured I'd grin and bear it til I could get a new one (I told them just to send me ANY other android, I'm getting a GSII, and I ordered an aquabox) but because motoblur is ridiculous you have to type in your log in details to unlock it. As I was around for this development I know there is no way around that on the stock rom, so I figured a rom with the bypass was really the only way. I'm not a slouch around RSDlite so I did my dirty work and went on with it.
I charged the phone 100% before I did it, but when it was done and gave me the no OS warning, I fastbooted and went for the unlock just like normal and instead of rebooting my custom firmware I got a blank screen and a green light. I've encountered that before so I pulled the battery out, plugged it into the wall and no green light! I plug it into the computer, no battery, I get the green light. I put the battery in the light stays on. I plug it into the wall, the light turns off! I've never encountered this before.
So I'm not super concerned about the overall health of the phone, it's going back soon enough but I'm curious if anyone has ever had this problem and how they solved it.
and for the record, I DO NOT work in handset development, so no I don't get access to any phone tools or softwares, I work in data structures and integrity and I was sent here to help digicel with their new high speed data networks across the Caribbean Islands

Can't you call a buddy in handset development?.......... j/k
^you'd think I'd know more of them!
I haven't been in the States for almost a year now so I'm pretty much on my own in this one. I just figured since the boards is flooded with people trying to unlock their bl that someone else might have experienced this

Samsung Galaxy S2 won't boot to main menu, and has seizures.

I'm having a huge problem with my T-Mobile Galaxy S2, and not it won't even completely boot up. The issue had already been around, but never this bad. Usually, when I would use my phone, it would just randomly reboot on it's own. Now, I can't even get to the main home screen or menu. When the battery is inserted, the phone will automatically try to turn on. I'll get the Samsung screen, then the "Samsung Galaxy SII Android 4G T-Mobile screen", then the phone will glitch for a second, black screen, and it'll almost have a seizure from then on. When I say that, pretty much what happens is that the screen will go black, and it'll pulse with vibrations. It'll vibrate, stop for two seconds, vibrate some more, etc. That's all it'll do from there on. It won't try to turn on when I hold the power button, and the vibrations won't stop until I take the battery out. There is no water damage, and there's just normal wear on the phone. I've had the phone since the drop, and for the most part, it's been great until now.
The phone is not rooted, and I have not installed anything crazy. Come to think about it, I didn't really even have too many apps installed on it to begin with. The phone is under warranty, so I had T-Mobile send me a replacement. My main issue now is that I have content on there that wasn't on my SD card, but on the internal hard drive that I find extremely important, and want to keep. When I connect the phone to my computer, nothing comes up because I didn't "connect" it to the computer as you normally would have to do from the phone, before the extra drives pop up on the computer. Without getting into the main menu and manually connecting the phone to the computer so that the drive will pop up, what can I do?
I've tried taking the battery, sim card and memory card out, letting it sit for a few hours, and plug it back in, but it does the same thing. The battery isn't bad, because it plugs into the replacement phone that was sent to me, and works just fine. I've also plugged into my additional batteries, and it does the same thing. I can't do the "hard reset" where you hold volume up & down, then the power button because what happens is the phone will restart itself before I can get to that point. I tried it when I was on the phone with T-Mobile, and the associate at one of the retail locations tried when I went to get a loaner. I've tried hooking up the phone to the Kies software, but it won't recognize the old phone. It will recognize the new one with no problems though.
I am in no way am I well versed with the process of flashing it or installing different things on the phone. I just used it casually for phone calls, texts, web, and an occasional game or app. I'm just stating this so that if there are any specific tips that anyone could recommend, please if possible, explain in a bit more depth, because after I posted my title, I found the related threads, and most of the steps that were recommended to others that had problems sound a bit foreign to me. I just really want to recover the photos and documents that I had on the phone before I send it back to T-Mobile.
These are the threads that I've somewhat referenced so far:

I can't seem to find anything with the same symptoms as my phone though. If anyone could let me know, that would be great. I just really want to get the content off my old phone, it's just extremely important to me. I'll be waiting on any replies. If you need and more information about what the phone is doing, or what I should try, please mention it. I will try to update this as I get replies, since I am supposed to send the phone back pretty soon. Thank you in advance.
a usb jig to get see if you can get to download mode would be a start.

You described my phone EXACTLY. I have tried everything you have, as well. I've read for hours on the internet trying to find a way to retrieve my pictures, etc. I have a replacement as well, but I haven't sent the old one back yet. I should have done so already, but I desperately need my stuff out of this phone. I'm going to be charged soon for the new one, and was trying once more before I sent it to the company. Exhausting all the info and tricks I've learned from the web, I ran across your post. Can you PLEASE tell me if you had any luck at all? Thank you....

Tonight out the blue my S2 galaxy skyrocket got the same exactly problem that you described. except for some dumb apps my phone has not been ever modified. I don't know anything about phones. for a couple hours y tried every combination possible of volume down, power button plug cable to computer in every sequence possible several times. at the enI stared trying with the Volume up I was fearing it will star a OS download or something at some point the Samsung logo stays a little longer and started the normal booting sequence. PHEW I got my Notes back. Hope this works for you. good luck

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II Jellybean overheating

I am unfortunately a bimbo when it comes to the mobile phones. I have tried to find an answer to my question, but I only found guesses, nothing spesific or helpful. I am hoping to find someone who understands the CPU/modem of Samsung phones, please bear with me!
Samsung Galaxy S II
GT-I9100
Android 4.1.2
Kernel 3.0.31-889555
Build JZ054K.I9100XWLSJ
Not sim-locked, not rooted. Purchaced in Finland September 2012, should be normal "untouched" phone.
Upgraded to Jellybean (right?) a couple of months ago by selecting the option from the phone. Kies and me, not working together. After every OS update I have done a factory reboot and installed the apps back, because some people on the forums have suggested it as a good precautionary measure. Things have always gone smoothly after updates.
The problem: Nowdays the phone overheats. It gets so hot that last time this happened the sim card got twisted and malformed. Also the battery drains fast when the phone gets hot. The hottest place on the phone is right under the camera lense (CPU?), not the battery. Most of the time wifi is on, mobile data off, GPS off and bluetooth off. Wifi signal is excellent.
This did not happen before Jellybean, otherwise I would only blame my extensive use of the phone. I have about 100-105 apps, Lookout, Juice Defender, about 10 news widgets, irc client, Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, Photoapps, Picasa tool, Olivephone etc. I watch movies, write docs. The memory certainly is in use, and the data transfer is 3,76 GB in 6 days over wifi (according to My Data Manager app).
The posts I found, suggested that the problem might be in media scanner or modem, and indeed software related. Is there any way of knowing this for sure? How can I read data like CPU use, temperatures etc or is it even helpful? Any other possible reasons? Is there a way to fix the problem without rooting the phone? As a bimbo I am scared of going to that route, because things tend to go wrong. If someone suggests a fix by simply installing a modem, can you create a return point or somehow make sure things can get back to what they were? I can always ask the seller company, DNA Finland, but doubt they know anything, and if they want me to return the phone as malfunctioning one, I'll probably cry as it took some time to get used to this.
Thank you!
Try a different battery first. See if the issue persists.

Heating
I get that alot too.
Usually when Im on Chrome surfing website the part of the camera lens gets soooo hot, I have to turn it off for it to cool down. I notice it happens alot when I'm outdoors.
What I do it I remove the battery and slot it back in let it cool down a bit before turning it on.
I'm at a lost too sometimes but nothing major so didn't bother. Does your battery drain very quickly when it is overheating? Mine does.

No disrespect to to the other guys but their responses seemed pretty useless am I right? I've had some experience with this which is why I feel qualified to answer, hopefully if it's still an issue a couple of months since you posted that I may be of help.
It's not something you're going to find a permanent fix for and my best advice is report it to your manufactuer - it is VERY likely to be to do with the jellybean software itself and in terms of a long-term solution you can hope for a further update to be released (it appears to be quite a common problem since the latest upgrade a few months ago).
Now there are things you can do to reduce it. Once it runs dry of battery (switch it off occasionally if it's melting your sim in the process!). Plug it in and let it charge switched off to full capacity. Repeat this process once. You should find that the phone's temperature stays relatively healthy (as does the battery life for ... weeks ( sorry I can't predict how long, for me it was a 4 or 5 before I had to repeat process)
Anyway, to recap, reporting it is important. Unless they're formally told about it then there's no issue.
Another long term solution is to go back to stock ICS. This does not involve routing but does involve wiping the software putting a new one on from scratch. But if you've done factory resets then I'd say you've got enough know how for a stock rom flash, they're not difficult and you'll find plenty of assistance on how to do that on xda.
All the best.
I would try a different modem too.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
If you ask me, I'm a 100% inclined to the modem being the main cause for this. If you can, post the baseband number that appears under settings>> phone info. Baseband, modem and radio all refer to the same. It's good to know what modem you're using, I have a list of modems I've personally tested that resulted in overheating problems.
BTW you should try to fix this asap cuz this overheating messes you battery, it gets inflated. I've had some mayor overheating problems but never had a malformed SIM card. Sounds like you have a portable BBQ grill.
I honestly don't know if you can change modems without rooting your phone but I strongly recommend you root it. Changing modems on rooted SGS2s is a piece of cake.

Same thing happend, exept that the battery overheats and it's very hot
is the battery worn out ? it got very hot last night and showed a warning message
If you've had the battery for a while, yeah, try a new one; particularly if the battery appears a bit 'swollen' or feels 'spongy' rather than firm like a new battery does.
I am using 4.3 ROM on any of my phones. and facing regular problems with few thing and those are bugging me bad.
My phone heats up a lot however battery performance has gone bad from worst and still not giving me more then 8 hours with very minimum usage.
Also, while charging, the battery would easily reach up to 47-48 degree Celsius within a minute or two due to which I always have to charge it while keeping it turned off.
Any idea what can be done to resolve it? I am too scared to do regular usage on my phone thinking it would drain out at important time and heating too much can cause severe damage to internals of the phone?
I am having a similar problem on my Galaxy S2 since upgrading to Jelly Bean. But the circumstances are different. If I keep the phone in my trouser pocket I find that it will occasionally become hot and will not respond to the on button. If I then take the battery out and immediately reinsert it the phone starts correctly but the battery will have run down appreciably (usually battery is only down by 10% in a day but after these episodes it will be down by 50% in only the few hours it has been in the trousers). The phone is set to start with a PIN number and Wifi, GPS and data are turned off. The overheating has never occurred if the phone is not in a pocket. I thought that some combination of button presses was causing the trouble so invested in a hard case - but this has not stopped the problem completely although it occurs less often.
The phone details are:

tried plugging and unplugging and nothing happening.
now the computer wont recognize it again and the phone will do absolutely nothing
please help i love my v10
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i have had my v10 bought it preowned in october 2016. no problems. i was going to root and rom it, but found it to be much more difficult than the g2 or my friends phones that i would play with.. i never had any issues so i never did it. the newest update came out and i updated it. still no problems. i did notice my battery drains really fast.. but it is not swollen. i have been on the newest update for at least a month. i moved from texas to hawaii 2 months ago.
i was at the beach and wanted to take a picture. i took the picture, then used the power button to shut the screen off. a minute later i wanted to take another picture, but the screen wouldnt turn on... at all. so i held the power button down and it turned off.... but now it wont turn back on. i tried removing the battery and get nothing. i get nothing when i plug it in to charge it. however if i take the sim card out and put it back in, then put battery back in then plug it in, it will show the screen that is the empty battery with the circle thing for only a moment then shut back off. it was early in the day when i went to take the pic and should have had about 80% battery.
again i have had zero problems from my phone. i try holding volume down and power button and i get nothing.
i just moved to hawaii and dont have the money to buy another phone right now
i have to figure this out. im always the friend that fixes peoples phone so i figure i can get this done.
in tmobile store after removing and replacing the sim we were able to get the lg load screen then it shut off.
then switched it with my daughters sim card and it took me to the lg load screen then the white tmobile screen... then it shut off.
any fixes for this? i have to drive all the way to the other side of the island to buy a battery which i was thinking might work .. but there are no signs on m y current battery that it is bad .. other than knowing it is a year old. i have always been careful with it to try to let it charge fully and not always plugging it in and out.
so i tried reset and it went to green screen and it says apps watchdog bite
demigod crash handler
if you want to get ram dump please do following action
1.please correct usb

and you expect the forum to fix hardware flaws?
so your saying this is only a hardware issue? My phone was working fine until I got that update to 7 and then after that it started randomly rebooting periodically and then this last time it went off and came on with that green screen. also, the phone would work for a while once I got the software and reinstalled it manually, but you never knew how much time you had,, a day, maybe two, or an hour or two. And this is purely a hardware issue is what you're saying? Sorry for the redundancy of the questioning. just trying to grasp a better understanding. But to answer your question about expecting this forum to fix my issue is not necessarily about what was said more so how it was said considering the wealth of knowledge and expertise that this form is comprised of for somebody to only suggest changing Hardware as a easy way out with no information given answer, as opposed to saying "hey that can't be fixed because it's a hardware issue and something is burned up or broken on your motherboard somehow"! That is more what I expected.

Look, the issue is a common error and you're not the only one to have had dealt with it. They all got the same answer and either they fixed it themselves (you can go to YouTube for that) they adapted and came up with a workaround (again, YouTube it) or they moved on to a new phone.
What do you expect? You're either gonna have to do some work, or spend some money. Either way, they told you what you need to know.
bootloop on which version of firmware you have if on nought then we are on same boat....
want to boot your device for 5-10 minutes??? put it in a freezer for 10-15 minutes....
Guys... cmon- i mean wt#... everyone ganging up on gameplayer. The poor guy is just frustrated... he doesnt build or develop. Hes 100 right on juniors remark. And senior should be much more disciplined than to start out with "look..." Both of you.. -immature and childish. You shouldnt be allowed to help anyone with tones like that. These forums have people asking legit questions on expensive devices they hardly have control over. Many Many as frustrated as he or more. GP didnt ask the question rudely... He RESPONDED a bit off but what did you expect? A bit of understanding and regardless how old the thread is perhaps an apology is in order from the both of you to him and anyone else youve spoken to that way. Youve solved nothing. Nor did you help at all. He couldve figured the youtube thing eventually. If even half an apology is not considered after youve thought of telling me were i could put my apology Id like to think you both get wise and not let this happen again. You two have been given rank for tenure and expertise in And for HELPING... not for being condescending, belittling, demeaning and/or any other nicer words than even smart-ass jerks... which is still nicer than im sure youve been called by at least ONE other person surfing the forum... Geez.

You just dismissed what could've been a completely insightful discussion. If you think he's just asking for help, you've greatly missed the point. We also want to know the what and the why. Like why does this happen and what is causing it? Is that not the purpose of forums? To discuss a topic freely through community input?

Came here two years later to say the exact same thing. Not that the forum owes anyone anything, but it's frankly quite boorish to dismiss a perfectly reasonable question by using semantic stop signs.
Ha, jokes on them, this section of the forum is literally a ghost town now. This one post is likely the only post that shows up on a Google search.
