I have been using a few of the Jellybean ROMs and ever since I have had trouble downloading pictures from the Phone to the camera. With the ICS roms my PC would assign them driver letters. But with each Jellybean rom I tried they dont show up as drive letters. They show up and I can browser to them. However my camer's DCIM is empty (Computer\SAMSUNG-SGH-I717\Internal storage\DCIM\Camera)
Even thought I have about 150 pictures in it. When i double check using the built in gallery app on my phone they are all there. But for the life of me I can not figure out why I can no longer see them in Window Explorer. I thought about importing them... But I have an SD card with about 1000s hi res backgrounds and i do NOT want to re import them.
Clearing the media cache and rebooting seemed to fix this (all pictures are now visible).

Did a bit of a search through the threads but couldn't find anything.
Running win 7 ultimate 64bit.
When you connect the S3 to windows and browse the files on the card and phone, by viewing the folder DCIM it doesn't display thumbnails or the pictures at all for that matter, it just has the icons for pictures and videos, no matter what display method I choose. Is there a way of setting this up that it will show the thumbnails so I easily find and delete or move the pictures without individually previewing or opening them?

I saw that myself too when I was deleting a lot of pictures from modding. I remember that some time ago it displayed thumbnails whereas now they are gone. Windows 8 64bit here with ELK4 4.1.2 version (that time), now ELKC. Hence also interested if anyone knows how to fix.
Today I got my new GS4, and was going to make sure all my stuff was backed up from my GS2 before I turned on my new phone. I went into "accounts" from contacts and checked the box for "auto-sync app data" (this is the only thing I did, period, since I was viewing my photos only about an hour earlier) and then connected my phone to the PC so I could back up all my photos. When I did, all the photos "loaded" but I could not actually view them, merely their file name. So I unmounted from the PC and went into gallery on my phone, only to find every single photo, both internal and on sd was replaced with a grey box and I cant view them. I have since reconnected to my PC, and now all those folders are completely empty. If I go into gallery on my phone, it still shows my folder names with all these grey photos, but when I use a file explorer to try and view them, nothing, 0 files just like on the PC. I have NO IDEA how this could have happen, and the only link I have to something going wrong was the auto-sync box I checked. I had about 6 months of photos I didn't back up, and some VERY important and irreplaceable pics I can't get back. I was hoping someone my have an idea as to what happen/how to recover my pics. I have gone through multiple folders, and literally every single .jpg file is gone! This includes all pics taken using the camera, any screenshots I had, all photos saved from texts and websites! EVERYTHING!!!! PLEASE HELP ME GET MY MEMORIES BACK!!!!!

Define "loaded". The sdcard mounts like a hard drive, then you copy them off. Not sure how you screw that up.

When I say loaded, I mean all the file names showed up in the folder, but I could not open the picture to view it. So it looked like they were there, but the file extension didn't show as .jpg and when trying to view them it said something about how microsoft viewer was unable to display image. I never actually attempted to do the copy from phone to pc, so there was not an issue with a transfer, but something that happen prior to even connecting to the pc as far as I can tell. After disconnecting and reconnecting, however, the files don't even show as there, just says 0 files in folder when I open it. Also, its not just sd card, but literally every single file that had a .jpg extension is completely gone....this includes internal and sd, and everything from wallpapers, camera shots, pics from texts and web, everything!
You could try Disk Digger to recover the photos.
Thx for the disk digger recommendation! It was super tedious going thru over 9,000 pics of thumbnails n all kinds of bs, but I was able to get back most of my pics from the internal memory! Now just need to do it with the sd card.

Remove your external SD card and try to access the images through a card reader. Some Sammy devices have had issues playing nice with SD cards, and the resulting behavior can be similar to what you have experienced. Technical details can be found around d the web.
Guys . I am on the the latest official samsung leak from two days ago. everything seems to work fine for the most part. However i have this problem with Icons , emoticons and album artwork not only showing up in my photogallery but pretty much outnumbering my photos 2 to 1. It has gotten to the point where I am no longer synchronising my phone with my pc. my Music folder also has windows files that are not music just sounds that windows makes. today i formatted my external sd card and erased all music and pictures from my internal storage as well.. In reinstalled windows too because i have been seeing these things on my pc as well. i used a flash drive to put about 2 gigs of pictures and 6 gigs of music on both my phone and pc.at this point i thought i had cleaned everything up and that just not syncing would solve my issues until i looked at my dropbox and google plus and picasa accounts. in no time at all my pc was already putting icons and artwork with my pics.
I looked into this issue on other forums on xda . but this problem does not seem to have much of a solution. some say to put .nomedia files in the directories which i have my pics and music. others say that it doesnt work with ics or hc i havent seen any solution for jb. or I9300 or 4.2.2 . By the way I am using the external micro SD card to store pics and music. maybe thats the problem. I dont know. My question is Does anyone know how to fix this short of avoiding syncing with a pc and ditching cloud storage?

Well there isn't a sure shot solution. For the album arts, try embedding them directly to the mp3 files. That should help. And try not to use the stock gallery app. Use quickpic and hide pics you don't want to see.
.nomedia does work on JB, but I'm not sure that it does what you want.
It is used to hide pictures from the gallery, audio from the music player etc.
It's just a case of creating an emtpy file called ".nomedia".

Okay, so hear me out.
I've been switching ROMS a lot lately (and I think this have played a part) and I've just landed back on ViperROM (4.1.1) from Carbon (4.2.2) and all of my old app/camera/etc data from Carbon was placed on /sdcard0/0/ (or /mnt/sdcard/0/). Now, I didn't care for it because it was mostly junk I wanted gone anyway. The only thing I wanted was my pictures (both taken on the phone and downloaded via facebook, browser, etc.). So, after a couple days using the ROM, I wanted to tidy up files and folders and remove the damn 0 folder because I'm not on 4.2.2 anymore. So I took my DCIM, downloads, etc and merged them with the respective folders under /sdcard0/ (or /mnt/sdcard/). Everything looked fine until I checked the Gallery and none of them are showing up when viewed (I get the exclaimation point in a triangle warning sign when I do) and the "View Details" option shows that they're "stored" under /sdcard0/0/.
In attempts to remedy the above stated situation, I tried to clear the cache/data of the camera and gallery apks. Doing so (and rebooting) lead the gallery to rebuild the photo cache!... and populate the old, broken photo links.
So what gives XDA? I can't wrap my head around this.
TL;DR:
Switched from ViperROM to Carbon back to ViperROM, moved /sdcard/0/ 4.2.2 folder back to /sdcard/ 4.1.1 folder, pictures are "stuck" on /0/ in Gallery but have been moved to /sdcard/
EDIT:
The camera even continues the naming pattern (say, I took 400 pictures on my "old" phone setup and they were IMAG000.jpg through IMAG400.jpg, if I take a picture, it labels the new one IMAG401.jpg)
It's not even that it's bothering me that it won't catch the old ones, but it's refusing to recognize that they aren't there anymore.
Hello all I rooted again recently after getting the 3 XX update from verizon.
and now that im rooted I cant get gallery to see any images in any folder except what is now taken with camera app.
any ideas.
restarted phone, cleared cache, restarted app, shut down phone and turned back on, tried different camera apps, different gallery apps....... all with same result that it will not see any of my pictures or videos I took before rooting or see any images in any other folder.
so im lost as to what to do to fix it.
Rom is OTA plus rooted is all.... nothing else was changed.
Im still a newbie but I know enough and i cant figure it out.

If I remember correctly, the files are stored in a different place in 4.2,2 then in 4.1.2. Do some searching to find the folder, and move your pictures there

ive tried moving folders and files..... but the issue is that the pics i have are in the same folder as the 1 pic i took once rooted..... so they are in the same folder. its like the gallery wont see anything else but what is taken from the camera now.
just stuck as to why its doing that..... had pics be seen in other folders before. i even have another folder on the root of the phone, well emulated sd card.... called Pics and it does not see those either.
noticed though that the camera does see the pics i took before but when i open the gallery to view those pics they are not there.
even booted into hboot and bootloader then restarted and still nothing.
oh and also i was already on 4.22 stock from verizon..... had some pics and a vid i took.... then rooted and now can't see pics and vid i took before I rooted.
found an answer i think
Ok think i figure out the issue.
the pictures i had on my device were not in a folder that the gallery app recognizes by default, so it was a naming issue and location issue. I moved the old pics taken with my camera before rooting to the folder labeled "Camera" and now the gallery an see all my images.
Before pics were in the folder named Camera....and now they are in a folder named 100MEDIA... very strange but happy it all ok now.
hope my issue helps someone sort out a problem if they ever have that issue like i did.
