Hi, I have a big problem. I had the 'Charging paused...' message popping up all the time so, iI decided to downgrade from ICS to Gingerbread. Sadly, I was flashin via odin and it failed leaving me with the 'Firmware upgrade encountered issue..' screen. Now I can get into download mode but neither odin nor windows will recognise the phone. I've got odin to recognise it a few times by fluke and tried to flash a new rom but it's failed. Now I can't get odin to recognise the phone at all. What should i do. Your help is much appreciated.

HI, have recently purchase a Smasung Grand from China Unicom, brought it back to native Singapore and tried to update firmware using Odin 3.07 with and .tar file I9082XXAMC8_I9082TMNAMC1_TMN.
Started working for a couple of seconds before the process stopped and my phone is stuck on the 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again' page.
I have tried plugging in to recover but Kies doesn't recognise the device and it is not appearing.
I do need help on this! Anyone with solutions please do help!!:crying::crying::crying:

In need of urgent help, I was following totallydubbed's tutorial on returning the phone to stock as I need a warranty repair.
I tried to flash XXEMA2 firmware for Optus off Sammobile.
Everything was okay until about 75% through the odin flashing process of the stock firmware then I got an error about something not being able to be written.
Now on boot it displays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Doesn't connect to kies.
I can get into download mode.

What error message did you encounter exactly? If you cannot remember and you can get into download mode as you said, did you try to flash again?
I spoke too soon, after spending about half an trying to connect it to kies and reflashing it. All it took was a swap into a USB 3.0 port which reinstalled the drivers and it worked.. Took about a third of the time also.. Strange.
I tried to root my galaxy s4 via a youtube.com video. in the mist of odin going in my device i got a connection error. now my screen says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again." I tried using kies to recover but i cant seem to make a connection.
anyone have a solution pls help, thank you

Yeah that means something happened during odin, did u have kies running? Try removing all traces of kies, then try again with odin, I ran into this exact same error with my s2 odin did a half flash because kies tried to connect during flash, if it doesnt work without kies then idk, my bet would be try removing all traces of kies ab then use odin, hope it works for u

im facing a complicated problem I've rooted my i9100 like a year with this custom rom

it was working okay but recently my phone was so laggy and freeze all time
i did a hard reset and i was trying to update the firmware with kies
but the operation failed and give me error " firmware upgrade encountered an issue " and i can't access recovery mode
i tried to make an emergency firmware recovery but always fail or stuck on somewhere
tried to do alot of things like flashing cwm installing new custom rom or kernel but odin keep giving me errors like
nand write start Complete(Write) operation failed.& Can't open the serial(COM) port.
tried also removing kies re-installing drivers trying different os different cable and USB ports
i tried also another pc still same im really confused and don't know what to do
fixing the recovery mode or trying to deal with odin errors what will get my phone back to work again
so please i need some professional support here im not experienced at all .

i found an old S II between my stuff and I wanted to make it work again. The baterry is still working, however when I turn on the phone i got the message "Fimrware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.".
I tried several tutorials with odin but I couldn't get the phone into the recovery mode. Odin recognizes the phone but fails everytime at Nand Write.
Any suggestion to find out if there is a way to restore the phone?

Or... you could try flashing CyanogenMod 12.1.
It sounds like you wanted to update it via Kies. Perhaps just try to connect it to your PC, launch Kies and see what's happening.
