**Battery life**, which ROM do you prefer? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey folks,
As everyone know most of the smart phones we have aren't really smart in terms of there battery life. From stock Roms to all of the customized roms passed by chiefs have there pros and cons, and this thread has no intention to bring on any comparison among them..
Share your experience about your battery life with the ROM you have installed on GS3, along with the kernel information and any other tweaks you guns have. Hope it would be very useful for those who always want there batteries to give a extra juice

Yep, i like this one too

Heaven forbid we have a discussion comparing battery life. Geez.
OP: I like the idea of this discussion. Having limited experience, it will greatly benefit me. Thank you for trying. Too bad people take the Internet too seriously to just have a friggin' discussion.

This is your first post here on xda and it was to support someone breaking the rules.
Well done sir, good start.
Best ROM/kernel threads are pointless because best is completely subjective. Same goes for battery life, your usage and mine could be completely different, ergo, what's good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander.

I actually find this kind of thing useful, having come from another phone. I really can't be bothered trying every different ROM out there for several days to evaluate and decide which is best.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

The post does not ask which ROM or Kernel is "better" because that is meaningless, but it is asking about user experiences with different ROMS and battery life.
I don't have time to try all the different ROMS out there, and this is why this is a forum no? Sharing experiences maybe?

Crdroid is my choice, totally worth trying

This is a developers forum. Not random talk and discussion, try to argue with people that follow the rules because they don't suit you, get mad when called out on not following the rules forum. If you read it objectively, you will see its a best kernel/ROM thread. He is asking for your combo of ROM and kernel with the battery life. That is a hidden way of asking what gives the best battery life. It will not work for every person the same. Its subjective to the user. There's nothing with a census of best. Some things work better for some and others it will be terrible. Get over it.

Asking what ROM is the best might be pointless but asking which ROM people PREFER is different.
Statistic work with the amount of answers. If one person say it prefer ROM "X", it might worth nothing. But if 10000 people say they prefer ROM "X", then it doesn't matter if people use their phone differently. ROM "X" is the most prefered ROM all around.
True that the battery life will differ from individuals because not everybody use the phone the same way but one person use his phone always the same way. I flash at least 3 ROMs a week so I can objectively compare the battery life of each ROM.
You might get different battery life depending on your use, but still you can tell which one give better battery life

Noobs are getting smarter. Disguising best rom threads as something like this.

But its the wrong type of smart XD

I got good results with SuperNexus and stock CM10. But I end up using different rom, because these are too basic and I wanted to use some stock samsung apps.
Although battery life depends on various factors. You can improve battery life by lowering sync and disable location services as much as possible.

I really don't see the problem. The last thread about "which is the best ROM" ended with someone proposing to make a comparison chart of the ROMs, and it was agreed(by the moderator) that it was a good idea. This thread is a comparison of the battery life between ROMs.

Yes it is a great guide:good:

Since few users gave their experience,I'll talk about mine: I've tried XPower on JellyBean 4.1 and with the Galaxyh(I think that would be the name) kernel
It gave me 48h and still had 7% battery left on the phone,so it would go till maybe 60h..
It was the one that gave me more battery life in all the Rom's I've tried so far
Right now I'm on Omega Aokp v4.2 and with the Syiah kernel 1.7rc3+
Since the installation of this Rom and kernel was yesterday,I can't give some good answer about the battery life on this, because once I'm a noob I've just figured out how to turn only dual core to save some battery late night..

Both are great. Why not just try both then decide later what's best suited for you?
I tried both and like Code Rom much more than UA, because of the battery usage. Tested UA for two days, and in this period I had to charge my phone three times, even though I don't use it almost at all.
It's almost a day from changing to Code Rom and battery usage is brilliant!
My vote goes to Code Rom I didn't like the first version at all, but the second one rocks!
for gods sake, thread like this make devs more annoyed. theres no point in this rom vs that rom thread. just install and decide for urself. geeeshhh
loyal to coderom. i use coderomv1, coderomnexus and now i am using coderomv2. this rom rocks!! ive tried other roms but in the end, i end up flashing back to coderomv2 i think this rom has battery and performance tweak..

Exactly.
I don't know why any developer would mind a comparison of their ROM?
It's a chance to check the others, and find ideas for themselves.

Hey!
I understand you, that you want THE best one. But there isnt BEST one, they all are great. Just go to ROM THREADS and read, what ppl is saying and discussing about ROM-s. Then decide, what ROM is filling your needs. Try it and you see, dose it good for you, if not then you can leave the feedback in that ROM thread, what you think(feedback is good for DEV-s, then they see what can be improved and what not). I think its better way to see what ROM is fill you needs, because we all want something different, then others!
CHEERS!
I really don't see a problem with a bit comparison as competition brings forth innovation so sometimes a little pressure can be good, I develop apps for the iPhone and it doesn't get much worst on their forums but some good apps always gets delivered despite the constant comparison. Ace is a growing community tho so I understand the sensitivity of making such comparisons but I'm sure the intentions are good

Go try for yourself ROM 1.1 and wow people are ignorant kernel 2.6.
EDIT: PUTTING HELPFUL STUFF HERE?
Each persons use and what the expect of the phone is different. If you have wakelocks keeping your phone awake due to a rogue app, you will have less of a battery life than others. Asking people what they use is like asking what browser they use. Some might be better than others but it depends on what you like and what you are used to.
Oh and if something makes a difference, look at the amounts of thanks compared to the # of posts... and he even has a "GIVE ME THANKS" sig.... If you have to ASK for thanks, something is wrong with you.
Entropy512s kernel is basically legendary for how good it is. I've read people love 12/8, and 2/07 I believe and a few others. I use his latest.
I've read Siyah is good too, people claim better battery live on 2.6.8 and 2.6.9.
I wouldn't say either is "best" but I prefer Entropys. It's smooth and comes with CWM verses the, I believe, redpill in Siyah.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Kernel alone has little to do with battery life. There are so many factors affecting battery usage that the premise of your question is worthless and is the reason these kinds of threads get closed. They serve no purpose. As was said, try them for yourself because that's the ONLY way you will find what works best for you, your phone and the way you use it. There are no shortcuts in this regard.

Performance vs GSIII

I think i posted before in the wrong section:
HI all, i recently purchased a ATT Note and love it. I have come back to droid after being on the iphone for a while. I fell in love with the screen. I almost sided with the Galaxy SIII due to the performance being so much better but the display model Note was not running ICS. So i got the note, brought it home and got it updated. Its a great phone, i love it. Especially for me being able to remote into my work computer and assist end users in troubleshooting. I am getting close to returning it though and getting the GSIII due to it being just so much faster. Is there a current ROM available that improves performance? There just seems to be so much lag when opening things up and when typing. The GSIII also has a nice screen but is noticeably smaller to me and that was a drawback but the performance is really better to me and things open instantly. Thanks for any input! I apologize for any repost i did a search and did not really see anything, Thanks for any help!

Was it just me, or is there really that much of a performance improvement? It seemed much much faster than the note...
What are all the roms in the development section for the Note? Maybe i am using the wrong terminology...
I am looking for something with great performance and the largest screen i can get right now, so i guess that would be the GSIII, huh?
try the ipad
Lol
The note performs fine but spec-wise the GS3 beats it one way or the other (whether you have the international version or a variant).
To me it sounds as though you updated your note OTA and that's just going to cause you problems.
There are plenty of fantastic ROMs for the note here - whether you want to dabble with GB, ICS or JB.
Start reading.
I suggest you begin with the everything note sticky.

Thanks for some actual help. My last droid was a capitvate. I had to go iPhone for corporate email and such. They are finally supporting touchdown so i am back on droids. I did the update via Kies. I have some basic info now from few people (and you now, so thanks) to get started but my basic question is answered and that is the performance ca be improved so i dont have to switch to the GSIII. Thanks so much!
Performance can be greatly improved. Try flapjaxx uclf6 or hotwires for ics as both provide overclocking. HAve had great success with DaGr8 gingerbread with oc.
I haven't personally tried any of the other dev's roms but have read about them and it doesn't seem like you could lose with any of them. it is just all a matter of what you prefer to have feature wise.

What type of performance increase are you looking for because from personal experience (my brothers GS3) my note was running flappjaxxx's uclf6 rom and my phone was much snappier and responsive ..and the apps we ran side by side..pretty much a toss up on any graphical difference...now if he roots and roms his phone it might be different ...but I gotta work on convincing him(he's terrified of bricking)...good luck hope that helps...

If you must leave the Note, I suggest the One X. The screen on the SIII is pitiful. And, to top it off, I just left the One X for the Note. I can't tell any reall speed difference. The One X is, however, the sleekest and best built of the new "regular phones". I've heard multitasking complaints with the One X, but I never had any issues. By the way, I haven't sold the One X. I'll still be playing with it, too.
I've read a few of these threads and I've owned both the SG3 and the Note and my brother has a OneX. The performance difference is negligible with the right oc kernel, of which there are several to choose from. And the rom support for the note is off the charts. In my opinion your note is just as good as any phone on the market right now.

[Q] What is the best kernel for SGSIII?

I've seen several posts saying that the Siyah Kernel is the best, the performance and the battery life is impressive. Only I did not see much difference in battery life. Yank555 already used also in ROM AOSP and the difference was too small. I'm now using kernel Phenomenal 4.0 Extreme, that I noticed a big difference from the others: the battery life, but the performance is not so good, when scrolling within the application's configuration a bit of lag. So I would like to know the opnion of you, I want a kernel that preferably battery life, so I do not use my phone, only the basics, such as SMS, calls, data, and others.

That is just "what's best" in another form. No form of "Advice on X for me" is really allowed because it's a too personal question. He needs to try various kernels for himself and make up his own mind. Laziness will be the death of humanity one day.

The rom choice is a personal opinion. There are several in the development thread, and only 1 left in the ported thread that's currently being maintained (MIUI). Check those out, read through some of the posts and decide which one is best for you.
The kernel is easy, because we only have one left, and it happens to be the best one ever built for our old device... AJK! Just read the op before installing it.
