[Q] What is the best kernel for SGSIII? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've seen several posts saying that the Siyah Kernel is the best, the performance and the battery life is impressive. Only I did not see much difference in battery life. Yank555 already used also in ROM AOSP and the difference was too small. I'm now using kernel Phenomenal 4.0 Extreme, that I noticed a big difference from the others: the battery life, but the performance is not so good, when scrolling within the application's configuration a bit of lag. So I would like to know the opnion of you, I want a kernel that preferably battery life, so I do not use my phone, only the basics, such as SMS, calls, data, and others.
Sorry my english, I'm brazilian and I have only basic knowledge in English.

Sorry - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935514

Don't ask "what's best ", it could be more appropriate if you say something like "somebody please gimme some advice on what kernel I should use"

That is just "what's best" in another form. No form of "Advice on X for me" is really allowed because it's a too personal question. He needs to try various kernels for himself and make up his own mind. Laziness will be the death of humanity one day.

The day people start to read the stickies I'll be a happy moderator.

Ya. This thread is gonna get closed. There's really only 2 kernel options so it's not that hard to try them both out.

Its not same. Other thread is more details whats disabled what apps you using and **** i dont care what you use i want to know what version of the kernel seem to be best battery wise. DO NOT post in here unless you posting kernel and version.

Go try for yourself ROM 1.1 and wow people are ignorant kernel 2.6.
EDIT: PUTTING HELPFUL STUFF HERE?
Each persons use and what the expect of the phone is different. If you have wakelocks keeping your phone awake due to a rogue app, you will have less of a battery life than others. Asking people what they use is like asking what browser they use. Some might be better than others but it depends on what you like and what you are used to.
Oh and if something makes a difference, look at the amounts of thanks compared to the # of posts... and he even has a "GIVE ME THANKS" sig.... If you have to ASK for thanks, something is wrong with you.
Entropy512s kernel is basically legendary for how good it is. I've read people love 12/8, and 2/07 I believe and a few others. I use his latest.
I've read Siyah is good too, people claim better battery live on 2.6.8 and 2.6.9.
I wouldn't say either is "best" but I prefer Entropys. It's smooth and comes with CWM verses the, I believe, redpill in Siyah.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
Kernel alone has little to do with battery life. There are so many factors affecting battery usage that the premise of your question is worthless and is the reason these kinds of threads get closed. They serve no purpose. As was said, try them for yourself because that's the ONLY way you will find what works best for you, your phone and the way you use it. There are no shortcuts in this regard.

Siyah ore speedmod i say
But just try!
Just try them and decide yourself. In my opinion, the best car in the world is the Lancia Integrale I currently drive, the best kernel is Siyah which I'm currently using, but many people disagree with me on both counts.

Fine but we will have yet another post asking exactly the same tomorrow and the day after and the day after to join the list of five thousand posts already asking the same question .
We would be far better off with a kindergarten section for repetitive posts .

The reason we have threads dedicated to kernels is so that you can click on those threads and read what people are saying about them. From there, you flash the kernel and you watch how your phone behaves for a day or two. At this point, you come back to the kernel thread and make a post about your experience.
Creating threads asking for people to do this for you is lazy but it also doesn't really work. Why? Because your device couple with your usage patterns will be different than the 6 people who actually reply to your thread with random kernel recommendations. Making this post and the hundreds we get exactly like it COMPLETELY POINTLESS AND A WASTE OF SPACE. If you're too lazy to read/search and make up your own mind, XDA might not be for you.

Your perfect rom

I'm not asking anyone to suggest me a rom or say which is the best rom because it's not fair to the developers here who do great work and they put alot of time and effort into pleasing people.
Just asking what your perfect rom would be.
For me it would be no lag for games, good signal for wifi and calls, good battery life and nice themes and wallpapers.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
No lag
No battery Drain
No hotting
Good signal reception
Bugs free
Wallpapers, sounds, etc.... You can simply add them after, so it's not important for me.

Best rom post in disguise reported .
RULES
Do NOT post threads asking which the best ROM or kernel is Guys,
There has been so many "Which is the best ROM?" and "Which is the best kernel?" threads lately.
This is a reminder.. these kind of threads are NOT allowed.
Why are they not allowed? Well because that the best rom and kernel for me might be the worst for someone else. It's subjective. It's like asking who the hottest girl in the world is. Or which sports car is the best. If you ask 100 people you will get 100 different answers.
The best advice is to try them all and figure out which one is best for YOU and YOUR needs. Not based on what's best for someone else.
I have just been closing these threads but I'm going to start to hand out official warnings if it continues.

I agree Mate , I believe this thread is OK, as he says he is not asking which is best he is asking what people want,
Which as a DEV is a greatly needed Resource of IDEA', if these guuys ask for what they want and then the ROM;s are developed surely this benefits the entire community and surely this is not against the rules.

I don't think this thread violates the "best rom thread" rule. He is not asking for the best rom, he wants to know what makes a rom best for oneself. Although, that's also very subjective seeing as what I find to be a best rom (stable, fast, bloat-free, sammy JB) might be completely off. I know people who love beta/experimental builds with bare-minimum features/apps etc. etc. and for the most part speed isn't valued there.
In one aspect, this thread is okay while in the other aspect it isn't.

Oh, don't be like that. You have to understand most of us have had our fare share of "what's the best X" kind of threads, and it's disheartening to see them every day or every second at least. If you want to start a topic, think for yourself if the topic is allowed or not, and be sure to search a lot beforehand so you don't start a topic which has been discussed a gaziliion times (much llike best X or best Y threads)
Its this particular Section for the Forum Mate, i have done Dev work with the Galaxy S and the HTC Flyer and the HTC Wildfire and never saw this amount of people trying to do the MOD's jobs for them.
Don't worry about it, fair enough if you post the wrong things then the MOD's will tell you but until then dont worry

I've had my phone about two months and I'm a very quick learner so thought I could help others too and maybe learn about making roms and other things.
I thought I'd do this topic to see what it is people look for in roms and help the developers out too and maybe put a bit of fun in it too

I have gone through a hell of a year as well. My mom and grand mother died, and we had to put our cat to death and my car has too many flaws to be worth fixing (both time-wise and economy-wise) etc. So you're not alone, thankfully.
The S3 is indeed a great phone and I would like to see you in the rom-making business. We could always use more people.

**Battery life**, which ROM do you prefer?

Hey folks,
As everyone know most of the smart phones we have aren't really smart in terms of there battery life. From stock Roms to all of the customized roms passed by chiefs have there pros and cons, and this thread has no intention to bring on any comparison among them..
Share your experience about your battery life with the ROM you have installed on GS3, along with the kernel information and any other tweaks you guns have. Hope it would be very useful for those who always want there batteries to give a extra juice

This is your first post here on xda and it was to support someone breaking the rules.
Well done sir, good start.
Best ROM/kernel threads are pointless because best is completely subjective. Same goes for battery life, your usage and mine could be completely different, ergo, what's good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander.

I actually find this kind of thing useful, having come from another phone. I really can't be bothered trying every different ROM out there for several days to evaluate and decide which is best.

The post does not ask which ROM or Kernel is "better" because that is meaningless, but it is asking about user experiences with different ROMS and battery life.
I don't have time to try all the different ROMS out there, and this is why this is a forum no? Sharing experiences maybe?
Crdroid is my choice, totally worth trying
This is a developers forum. Not random talk and discussion, try to argue with people that follow the rules because they don't suit you, get mad when called out on not following the rules forum. If you read it objectively, you will see its a best kernel/ROM thread. He is asking for your combo of ROM and kernel with the battery life. That is a hidden way of asking what gives the best battery life. It will not work for every person the same. Its subjective to the user. There's nothing with a census of best. Some things work better for some and others it will be terrible. Get over it.

Asking what ROM is the best might be pointless but asking which ROM people PREFER is different.
Statistic work with the amount of answers. If one person say it prefer ROM "X", it might worth nothing. But if 10000 people say they prefer ROM "X", then it doesn't matter if people use their phone differently. ROM "X" is the most prefered ROM all around.
True that the battery life will differ from individuals because not everybody use the phone the same way but one person use his phone always the same way. I flash at least 3 ROMs a week so I can objectively compare the battery life of each ROM.
You might get different battery life depending on your use, but still you can tell which one give better battery life
Noobs are getting smarter. Disguising best rom threads as something like this.
But its the wrong type of smart XD

Although battery life depends on various factors. You can improve battery life by lowering sync and disable location services as much as possible.

I really don't see the problem. The last thread about "which is the best ROM" ended with someone proposing to make a comparison chart of the ROMs, and it was agreed(by the moderator) that it was a good idea. This thread is a comparison of the battery life between ROMs.

Yes it is a great guide:good:
Since few users gave their experience,I'll talk about mine: I've tried XPower on JellyBean 4.1 and with the Galaxyh(I think that would be the name) kernel
It gave me 48h and still had 7% battery left on the phone,so it would go till maybe 60h..
It was the one that gave me more battery life in all the Rom's I've tried so far
Right now I'm on Omega Aokp v4.2 and with the Syiah kernel 1.7rc3+
Since the installation of this Rom and kernel was yesterday,I can't give some good answer about the battery life on this, because once I'm a noob I've just figured out how to turn only dual core to save some battery late night..
