i picked it up used with stock rom, no mods. i rooted, then installed nero v3 with voodoo and then v5 with voodoo.... then i tried a custom battery mod and it screwed my phone up... cant get past the vibrant start screen, cant read the ext sd and the phone drivers will not work... computer detects it, but no drivers are installed. i have used the 32 bit driver 64 bit drivers, kies, kies mini, odin v1 and v1.7, still nothing... i can get into cwm recovery, but only with voodoo enabled, and can get into download mode, but i cant seem to get the computer to read it. have used 4 different computer, win 7 and 32 bit xp....also have tried drivers with pdanet and easy tether, but still no luck... can you offer any help to me??? thanks in advance.
as of u have done so much and nothing helped i would cry , and for not readin on how to unbrick your phone right on top of the forum you should cry too .
and if look good enough every 3rd thread that is made is how to unbrick the phone
@bartek
OK...OMG dude... you had like 5 posts 3 days ago...how are you helping this individual out other then giving him all your illegible ramblings that you are posting and ridiculing individuals as you go .. I'm sry, I don't mean to rant but damn...
Anyway OP, your just soft bricked. If you can get into d/l mode then I would either go ahead and ODIN back or if you can get into CWM recovery and you still have Nero 5 in your root, I would just reflash it and it should take care of it...enable voodoo when you flash Nero 5 ..you should be ok.
First off, I have been searching the forums for almost two weeks now and cannot find a solution....I have tried everything......the first problem is that no matter what drivers I use, the computer still says usb device not recognized, so I cannot get odin or heimdall to communicate, neither kies or kies mini.....
Well, now I turned it on this morning and I cannot get into cwm or dload mode.....just keeps bootlooping and linda talks and says riskful operation, then reboots......I am lost, don't know what else to do, I'm gonna throw this phone out the window

I gotcha.... not to sound like an idiot but have you tried a different usb port? If your using one on the front, try ones in the back if your on a desktop.. if that doesnt work try running ODIN in XP SP3 compatibility mode

I think he's saying that odin doesn't detect his phone and therefore doesn't light up yellow. Happened to me too. I'm on the epic. I tried everything. But odin finally found my device. Try different usb ports, a different wire, reboot both phone and pc. Switch between usb debugging on and off. Try it with sideloading enabled and not. I eventually found a combimation that worked. These phones are fickle. It'll work eventually.

As far as I know, ODIN wont recognize your phone without being in download mode and drivers installed on your computer.

No I believe you need the correct drivers installed. At this point either your missing something or don't have the correct driver to install. Maybe someone can point out where all the proper drives are for you to download
speachless ....if u wont follow what i wrote im helpless.goodbye. and why u turning your phone on dude download mode is battery out phone connected to ANY usb port hold vol up vol down hold all time and puit battery in
if that doesent help your phones usb is **** or the cable is ****
btw, i have tried installing all the proper driver from the proper threads... 32 bit, 64 bit, ive tried kies and kies mini for vibrant, heimdall drivers also.... NOTHING WORKS...
i appreciate everones help... thank you.
This is what I do to get it working. I open odin first and load all the needed files.
I then plug the usb cord into the usb first before plugging it into the phone.
with odin open and the phone completely off. I hold down the volume rocker and plug in the usb. I get download mode to work almost everytime.
For me the stock cable I got with mine doesnt work. I have to use a different cord or it acts like it doesnt see my phone.
The vibrant was running CM7 for a few hours until I noticed that it wouldn't charge via USB. It wouldn't charge from the wall outlet nor when plugged into a computer (the computer did recognize that it existed but didn't have the drivers for it).
I tried to recover it but then the process failed and it was stuck in boot menu. The vibrant only loads to the first splash screen. I can put it into download mode however ODIN doesn't recognize it. Nothing shows up. I've installed the Samsung Vibrant drivers and I've tried Kies Mini however Windows 7 32bit won't recognize the device. How can I install the stock ROM if Odin doesn't recognize it?
if u can get into dl mode but cant get pc to recognize ur phone use aio toolbox or get a usb jig that may help!!
or since your on CM7 ..try the Nexus S drivers and see if it recognizes it.
Could it be that maybe USB Debugging is turned off? At this point there is no way I can boot up to turn it on.
All of the drivers I install end up not being installed correctly, I get errors.

This. You can find them here.
CyanogenMod 7 for Vibrant Q&A
Just press Ctr+F and search ''Nexus S'' and you will find the instructions on how to get them.
I'm having some difficulty. I don't have a phone under my device drivers. All that's showing up is PCI Simple Communications Controller. I click on update driver and direct it to the SDK. Nothing happens.
Edit:
Downloaded the Intel ME: Management Engine Interface driver for the PCI problem. It seems to be fixed. Now my phone is showing up as unknown device. Working on it some more.
Hi guys, was having a few problems with my phone and decided that I'd flash the stock ROM again.
Went into ODIN as you do, and as I was flashing the stock ROM, for some reason or another I heard the disconnect/reconnect noise that Windows makes when you remove a device then FAIL came up in ODIN.
Now my phone's stuck with a phone connecting to a computer on the charge screen, it can't go into recovery mode but it can go into download mode.
Tried connecting it to my PC in download mode, and even though I've got the Samsung USB Drivers installed I get the 'USB Device Not Recognized' message, which means I can't flash the stock ROM in ODIN anymore.
Does anyone have any advice? Thank you.

Hi!
Hi, you guys install ADB on your system? And also USB debugging mode on the phone?
Should be turned on which can be done by going to Settings>Applications>Development and select USB debugging.
Try this, for me its works

I can't even turn the phone on at the moment. Only thing I can do is go into Download mode.
Help
Try this, take out the battery, then press and hold the ON button for 7-10 seconds (the longer the better). Reinsert the battery, then press ON button to start it. This is a soft reset, and wipes the temporary memory and empties all remaining power in the circuits. This helps on many phones and even laptops that won't start properly or show anything on screen.
If this does not work, try the next step. Again, do as above. But after inserting the battery, do not turn the phone on, but press and hold the ON button and the HOME button at the same time for 7-10 seconds. This is a hard reset, and works best if done after a soft reset. Just be sure the battery has at least some juice in it and isn't empty. If possible, try with another battery if this does not work.
Hope this helps!
Try going to device manager, you will probably find your device as an unrecognized device, uninstall the drivers, unplug and then plug it again and see.
if the prblm is hard then do a fresh installation of kies, device etec etc.....but if u have ur device in the device list on pc then first uninstall it...if possible try recovery mode and reset...
I tried everything you guys have suggested and none of that worked. Anyone else got any ideas?
Try everything (and I mean everything) on the following list. Given the problems you've had & that you've already tried some of these things, I'd try another PC. And if it doesn't work first go on another PC, then go thru the list & try everything on the 2nd PC.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again. Also run Windoze Update.
*And if all this fails, try a different PC.
Tried all the above and a different PC.
It didn't work. I could fix the phone if the computer would pick up that the phone's connected - it just doesn't.
Total Removal of KIES including registry entries .
Reboot PC install a new copy of Kies .
Phone backup data and factory reset .
Set phone to USB storage mode using the Samsung cable connect to PC and wait for Windows to find USB drivers .Remove cable reboot phone .
Start Kies connect with cable wait for Kies to find the phone .
Note USB Debugging OFF and cable connects to a direct motherboard port only .
Nothing then only further suggestion would be to Format the PC and start over with a clean Windows install .

I can't turn the phone on, it's stuck on the phone, triangle, PC screen.
I've tried fresh installs on three different PC's.

That's a forced download mode.
Try a blind flash to a stock firmware from Odin while connected to your computer with the phone on this screen. Even if Odin doesn't seem to register that it's connected. I've heard of at least one person this worked for.
At this point, you really have nothing to lose by trying this.
Bit of an update, I plugged it in again and it installed some drivers and ODIN picked it up. Only for it to disconnect a few moments later, now it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting over and over but ODIN's not picking it up.

I know you said you tried a different cable, but that sounds suspiciously like a bad cable.
It's not the cable, thanks any way.
Update 2: I managed to get it to connect long enough to flash the stock Kernel. Still didn't reboot. Then I connected it again and flashed the stock ROM, which bricked it again. Then I flashed the stock kernel and it works!
However, there is a problem:
When the phone gets turned off, it constantly shows the charging battery icon with warning triangle and a thermostat next to it. I can't turn the phone on because of this unless I go into Recovery mode and reboot system.
Any ideas? Thanks.

I in no way recommend this, and not sure I would do it if I ever started having this issue...
BUT - I have heard that some people faced with this condition have fixed it by physically moving the small wafer board inside the USB port with a precision screwdriver (gently!) to a more "centered" position.
If that doesn't work, look at replacing that part. Either via warranty service if you still have it, or a service center.
Firstly I apologise if this has been covered anywhere - I read a load of posts and did a load of searches but came up empty handed about this specific issue.
I bought a Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830 Baseband:S5830NEKA3 OS:2.2.1) as a dev device and it's been working fine up until today, and at some point it decided it doesn't want to be able to connect to my computers. I've tried three different computers, two different operating systems, and ever tried installing Kies (urk) with no luck.
The phone can charge over USB, saying that it's charging over AC, but that's all that happens.
I can't boot in to recovery mode as holding the power+middle button+vol up just gives me a ramdump message.
Can anyone help me out?

When phone is turned off. Press and hold home+power/lock button untill it reaches recovery menu.
Check - that works. Thanks.
I'm now unsure as to how to proceed - neither adb devices nor fastboot devices are reporting anything back.
Connect device to pc. Open device manager (windows). Remove all drivers related to the ace and Samsung.
Remove the device and reboot the pc. Then connect the device. Windows update will detect the device and install the necessary drivers. If it doesn't automatically do that then open up device manager and install them manually by right clicking on the device and selecting update drivers from internet.
From the Galaxies to your Ace...!!
Thanks for your reply.
In windows there's no sign of any Samsung or Galaxy Ace drivers. Plugging it in to my Kubuntu machine gives me identical lsusb results as when not plugged in.
Have done a data wipe, checked that USB debugging is on and tried different cables
think it's screwed.
Think I could stick a ROM on the SD card and flash it? Would that work?

Yep , the phone's USB port is frayed
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?
My computer won't recognize my gs4. I have the latest drivers installed and have re-installed many times. The only thing it does when I plug it in is charge. It sometimes says windows is searching for the latest driver when I plug it in, but it then it then says it was unplugged. ODIN did manage recognize it once and that was enough for me too root it and then flash the stock kernel back on. My phone then soft-bricked at the padlock after some rom flashing and I had to go to my friends house to flash it back to stock. Is there anything else I can do?
Am I the only one with this problem?
Does it give you the error "USB device not recognized"? If so there are some fixes for it. I fixed my friends when I sold him my S3. His PC did it.
Yes, a couple of times it did that. Now it just does nothing.
If you try and remove the device from your device manager does it do anything?
Right click on computer and go to properties to get to the device manager.
What would it be named? I looked through all the usb stuff and everything else and couldn't find anything that would be my device.

It would be any device with a yellow Triangle and an Exclamation point on it. Also uninstall KIES and your Samsung USB drivers, then reboot. Get updated USB drivers from the S4 link in my signature.
It did the same thing and game me the unknown device thing. It also said that the device malfunctioned. I guess ill just try again.

Ok let's try this fix first.
1. Remove phone from PC and shutdown and remove battery to shut off phone.
2. Plug USB cable into PC and phone.
3. Put battery back in and boot phone but…
4. As the phone boots, hold down Volume up and down and don't let go until you see you are in safe mode on the phone. It should say safe mode on the front screen.
5. This should reboot your phone into download mode and install drivers that are needed.
6. Your PC will indicate and recognize the phone.
7. Now if you check the notification drop down on your phone you should see USB/MTP options there in the notification area. MTP should be checked.
Still no luck. Maybe later I will re-install windows or just re install every driver on my computer.
The other fix to try is listed below.
1. Uninstall any previous instance of Kies/USB driver
2. Download the latest Kies, specific to your S3.
3. Download Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 (I've tried newer versions but they all failed)
4. REBOOT
5. Disconnect from internet (VERY IMPORTANT!!! - forcing Windows to install local drivers ONLY)
6. With the phone disconnected, install Kies + USB drivers downloaded in steps 2,3
7. Connect the phone and let Windows install the drivers.
8. Reestablish the internet connection.

My experience with the "Device Malfunctioned" thing was due to a bad cable. It would charge, but wouldn't allow me to connect.
You might also try a different USB port on your computer. Often times the connectors on the back of a desktop system, which are hardwired to the motherboard, work more reliably than the front ones.
