Repair center screwed me royally!!!!!! - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I sent in my lte for repair for screen lift. The phone was in immaculate condition besides the lift . Well I get a email fron htc saying my phone was damaged beyond repair and I was out of warranty because of that . Im sooo pissed off right now . Either they dropped it or shipping damaged it , htc is going to try to find pictures of the packaging . I guess to everyone that reads this TAKE PHOTOS OF YOUR DEVICE BEFORE SENDING ,I didnt and regret it. Here are some pics htc sent me . The phone looked brand new before I sent it to htc .

Why did you use your warranty & not see a local corporate Sprint store? Sprint TEP fixes this & if they can't = another EVO / similarly spec-ed android.

i agree, i always go to sprint store and they always replace it for me

Manufacture defects are under sprints warranty, and HTC's warranty, which is 1 year from purchase. You should of tried another sprint store.
You should also b**ch at HTC for s**t pictures.

They were using an iphone.....lol

So for a phone to be fixed under manufacturer's warranty, it must be in immaculate condition and show absolutely no sign of everyday wear and tear. Right...

Did you pack it well enough? Well, either way there's no recourse now since you don't have pictures of pre-shipment. For all you know, that tech who took the pics could have dropped it! Should just get it back and repair it yourself now (unless you have TEP).

HTC warranty repair seems pretty bad to me thus far. I sent mine in for a yellow tint on the bottom of the screen + screen rippling. 3 Sprint stores had told me that they do not cover that, and 4 phone calls to Sprint customer support yielded the same answer. I figured switching back to my Hero for a week or two would be okay, but HTC shipped the phone back with the exact same issues. They had even told me they replaced the screen + bezel.
I had to ship it back to them at my own expense to get them to look at it again. Hopefully when I get it back it will actually be fixed this time, but I won't hold my breath.

At that point I would purposely damage the phone in a way that would look like it's HTC's fault. I've done this with ****ty warranties before.

I sent mine in because of a dead section on the screen. I got it back and now when I slide my finger on it for scrolling pages, playing games, etc it skips around all jittery.
It's great!
Grrr

Lesson learned, always take pictures of defective device before shipping. Send them through email to HTC as attachments, hell print then out mail then to yourself, keep unopened package of uncompromised pictures in a sealed postmarked envelope if you have to, damn....

I had a good experience with their warranty. I bricked my lte but knew they had the tools to flash the correct files (I could even see the device at least being recognized in Linux)
Fixed it and sent it back within 5 days.
Sucks about the damage. If only pictures had been taken before.

Hey I had this exact scenario happen after they fixed my screen. I am not sure if this is what causes it but when I looked at the firmware it didn't match the hboot or radios. I noticed it when I had to choose a ruu for running crazy raccoon (or whatever it's called) for s-off. When I ran the ruu it fixed the screen jitters for me. Hope that helps!

Just received my replacement 3d

So after getting my screen replaced and the store borked my camera and couldn't fix it they ordered me a replacement phone. I got it yesterday and 2 of the softkeys don't light up. So I call sprint to let them know so they can send another phone and they tell me i have to go to a repair store first so the store can order the phone. I told them i shouldn't need to take my own time and gas to go to a store because they sent me a defective phone. The rep agreed and is trying to get approval to send me a phone. Am I right or should I just go to a store? Has any one else had this problem?

Hell no man youre right. Why you got to spend your money for their mess up. If they want your business they need to do their end and give you a working device if thats what they said they were going to do.
I agree but theyre making it a pain in the ass. I'll hold out for them i think
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
ya i would try and do it that way but wouldn't spend too much time arguing.
Agreed
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
It's a pain in the ass, however that's their policy. From their perspective, they would be wasting money if they just sent out phones to people without actually looking at them first to verify the problem. I went through the same thing with my original Evo, had 7 replacements, all had some sort of problem, and every one I had to take into the store so they could look at it.
This is why i buy from best buy. Anything is messed up, break it. $10 a month, unlimited replacements. Got my replacement in 3 days. No questions asked, took 10 minutes to get the replacement process going.
I guess ill go to a store tomorrow. I understand wanting to verify the defect but its still b.s. Defective refurbished phone right out of the box shouldn't be my problem. That's why I hate refurbs. Oh yea, and the lady I talked to today said ' let's go ahead and do a factory reset'. I told her that its always the first thing I do when I open a new phone, and this is a hardware issue not software. It made me chuckle a little.

btdt, Sprint replaced my wife's 3D, two bad soft keys, had to go to a repair store, they happened to have a replacement, so we didn't have to wait.
Sent from my HAL 9000 3D
I ordered a replacement because I have dust under the screen and the digitizer was acting up. Received a refurb in a day. Back cover was messed up, one of the lights was dim and didn't have a power button. Called Sprint and told them that I was sending it back, they said they would send another one out but expect to wait 1-2 weeks. That was 2 1/2 weeks ago. Honestly, when/if I get it, I'll probably just send it back. Have heard anything good about refurbs. Guess I can live with a little dust under my screen.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Good day, the issue isn't with the refurbs per se. I got a 3D on launch day, 2 months later had to replace it and am still on the "refurb" Sprint sent. It has to do with the original issue, based on this is what gets refurb'ed, new housing and on its way. After a POST (power on self test). The service & repair locations are limited to what can be done. I'm a repair technician and do anything but repair most of the time. We're no longer allowed to solder anything, parts allocation is horrendous and to top things off we have at best 2 hours to try to duplicate the issue. Sorry for venting guys, I hear this all day, every day. I didn't refurb it myself and if it left our doors I have to disassemble and inspect, also there's 3-6 phones queued up. Most stores have 3 techs to cover a 7day work week and indirect dealers (I work for one) have only 1, working open to close 6 days a week.
Had to get my first refurbished replacement a couple weeks ago. It was garbage. Kept freezing and restarting. Did several factory resets from bootloader, and it didn't fix it. Asked for another one. Got it in the mail, ordered my EVO 4G LTE, and now my refurbished EVO 3D is on Craigslist. I'm done with it.
I'm close to that point too.

3d replacement nightmare

Back in April I cracked my screen on my 3d. Sent me a refurbished replacement. Within a month the soft keys and bottom of the screen go out. Take it back in to the repair store and they order a replacement. I wait over a week and What do I get? A certified pre owned with the paint chipping off. Is this normal? Read other people got different phones so why do i get a paint chipped used phone?

You're not alone. Sprint only offers refurbished EVO3Ds as replacements. I've gone through probably 7 or 8 phones already, and all of them have had issues.
My current phone has a big blue patch on the screen, it's missing the rubber gasket around the screen, and the aluminum frame around the screen is bent.
I'm overseas right now, so I can't get a replacement, but I definitely will when I'm back in the states. I'm kind of hoping I can get another phone, since I've only had bad luck with the EVO 3d, it seems. I emailed the technician at my local Sprint store, and as of right now, it seems you can only get an EVO3D as a replacement for an EVO3D.
I just got a new phone from sprint today after the one they had send me had hardware issues and a blue spot in my screen.

That would make sense. Our case, it was a manufacturer's defect so insurance (asurion) was not invloved. Guess we got lucky
I guess I will stick out my light screen bleeding... If only they replaced it with an LTE
I tried to get sprint to replace my phone when the whole left edge bent off. they told me i would have to pay 100 for a replacement if I had the insurance. I thought the whole reason to pay for the insurance is that if the phone broke you got a free replacement. Im glad i didnt pay for the insurance and I walked out of the store with a case
Out of curiosity why are people even carrying insurance on these phones anyways? Can one just find a good used replacement on ebay or craigslist for about the same price as the deductible?

I'm on phone number 4 as well, holding out for the new S3 if possible or it might be phone 4 due to a crappy usb port.
Phone #1 kept randomly rebooting, then after a reboot it decided to never connect to the Sprint network again.
Phone #2 had some visible junk behind the screen.
Phone #3 decided it wanted to commit suicide while I was watching Netflix, it made a loud beeping noise and would never come back on.
Phone #4 Capacitive light buttons are dimmed and since flashing cm9 they won't even come on. The usb port is getting loose and I have to charge my phone at an angle (awesome).
I know this really isn't HTC's fault due to Ausrion (sp) phones but going through 4 phones is kind of pushing me away from HTC. Waiting for S3 reviews to decide on that or the 4G LTE.
Already said screw it and picked up my LTE

Had a dead pixel on my One I picked up yesterday and I went back in and exchanged it. I can live with the screen gap but I'll be damned if I have to stare at a dead pixel for 2 years. Once you know it's there, it's all you can think about.
I got a replacement yesterday. It had a dead pixel. Just a single one but it drove me crazy and my eyes would constantly gravitate to it. Fought with them all morning because they told me to exchange it in a store, no stores are carrying the 64gb in inventory so they said they would send me a return label and once they get this device send me another. I called back multiple times and fought with multiple people. Eventually I got a supervisor that made it so they send me the replacement first, then I send back this one. It took a lot of fighting and a lot of calls but they eventually did it. The supervisor actually had to get approval from her supervisor. It was a hellish morning and I'm glad I finally got it sorted. Already got an email about the order for the replacement so that's a good sign. Man their customer service has taken a nosedive. It never used to be this difficult to do an exchange. When the last rep answered "thank you for calling att where pur customers are the #1 priority I couldn't help to laugh and say 'that's not true'"

This was through AT&T. If you are an AT&T customer, I would check to see if there is a warranty center in your area. They will usually make an exchange on the spot. Otherwise, call AT&T and they will send out a replacement right away and you just mail in your defective phone when you receive the new one.
I bought my phone used, does the 1 year manufacture warranty carry over to me, even though I'm not the original owner?
What are you using to find dead pixels with, they are quite small. I know certain screens/colors will reveal them nicely.
I had one dead pixel on my first HTC one it also had the speaker grill cut incorrectly. I decided to do a exchange for the same one and this one is perfect no issues. To check for dead pixels use this app it's great also shows ghosting ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ujacha.deadpixel&hl=en). I love this phone btw hope this helps anyone.

I have a replacement that came with a green hue in the bottom right that takes up 1/7th of my phone. Took it to Sprint and the techs couldn't see it so they claim, probably due to all the lighting they have to make things look better than they actually are. Still working on getting them to fix this issue or I might just have to leave after all these years. I have paid insurance and repair fees for years without ever using it and have paid for this phone multiple times. There is no way they should be unwilling to give me a NEW or at least acceptable condition phone. Being that this is a lingering issue they seem to not want to resolve, they might be losing a lifelong customer. I refuse to be treated in such manner.

I have gone through 3 replacements so far. I broke my original with water damage. First replacement only got 1x data. I had to force the tech to admit that i was right by doing a speed test with him back to back. and then going in to the hidden diagnostic and showing him it said 1x even though sprint showed 3g on the toolbar. I told him it was sprints way of trying to trick the customer in to thinking they had a better connection than what was available. This pissed him off, but I won. got a replacement sent.
The second replacement had the screen being lifted. You can visibly see the screen coming up, and at times the screen would stop working if i "moved" it in the right direction.
Third replacement could get no data type of data to another. Like 4g to 3g. the data would turn off. the radio was on, but said disconnected. rebooting sometimes fixed it. but it got worst and worst. To the point where I was rebooting 5x just to connect. I complained to no end non stop untill they replaced the phone. I had to show the tech and they said "well.. its rooted" and I said. well.. i flashed it back to stock and look, its happening still.
Fourth replacement, The compass does not work. No matter what I am doing, google maps and compass apps point to the north. Smart Tools also doesnt show me rotating the phone, but G-Sensor does detect the rotation and so does the camera app. But you know what. I ****ign give up.
I am going to take it in to the store just to ***** about it again and hope I get placed on the HTC One or something. But I think they just dont care. The phone is old and they will run it in to the ground until they are out of stock.

Can i exchange or return htc one with purple camera issues

Hi, is anyone know if Tmobile allows us to exchange or return htc one with purple camera problem? By the way I owned this phone since May. Thank You.
Yes, I just got approved for an exchange today due to the camera tint. I've also had mine since May. Just tell them you have a purple tint in lowlight photos. They will troubleshoot with you (wipe camera cache, wipe cache partition, then a full reset) then it's exchange time
By the way, I did all this over the phone, and it should be here tomorrow...

Think they'll honor it if you've dropped your phone and have a dent on a corner? ?

They ask if there is any flaws with the phone, but if it's a hardware issue, it SHOULDN'T matter. But in all honesty, I don't know...
Also, got the replacement and no purple tint!

Was your phone rooted/unlocked?
for people who have returned the phone for the camera tint issue, are you required to have insurance with tmobile to get the replacement, or can they replace it by using the factory warranty. Does anyone know and can confirm this?
Hi all-
In the US at least, I had no problem contacting HTC directly for a repair order. I paid for the shipping to the repair center in Texas, they fixed it, and it was returned at no shipping or repair cost to me. Phone was fully stock, no root or anything. The whole process took about a week. If you go through T-mobile they will probably give you a replacement phone, but it could have the problem also. If you send to HTC they will replace the camera sensor module with a newer one that doesn't have the tint problem.
Also, while your phone is away, T-mobile can give you a loaner phone for a $50 deposit that is refunded when you bring the loaner back. It's a cheap flip phone, but at least you will be able to make and receive calls (and texts).

if im not mistaken i think the HTC One comes with a 1 year limited factory warranty.
i got my phone about 6-7 months ago called up HTC and told them about the purple tint.... put my phone back to stock unrooted and locked the bootloader and s-on'd :< and mailed it to them. cost 12 bucks with $400 insurance "still owe 400 on it so if its lost or what not i can atleast break even" atm im just awaiting the facility in texas to shoot me a email about the repair quotation. i approove it then wait for em to mail my phone back lol

I just went to T-Mobile today, I do have insurance but they didn't make me use it. They're sending me a replacement device and it should be here next week. Only had to pay $20, which is a lot better than the $150 I was thinking. If the new device still has problems I'll ask for another one. My camera is pretty bad right now...
It's getting worse by the week.

Same here I called it in and they charge $20 and are sending me another one. I hope it doesnt have the same problem.
If it does I'm going to fuse and see if I can keep getting replacement. If that doesn't work I might just have to get another phone.

If it has the same problem they should replace it again. For free, I'd imagine.

I surely hope so. I wouldn't want to keep paying $20 for a hope that I get a working phone
Of that's the case then I'd just switch to another phone. I really like the HTC one but the camera is killing all my memories.

My replacement came in the mail today. The first thing I noticed was the huge off-set the screen had compared to the rest of the body, you could nearly see the bottom of the volume controls.
The camera had a dead pixel.
The vibrator was extremely weak, and the screen had a yellow tint to it, more so than my One S which had a very warm color tone to it.
I took it to the store and they're sending me another device free of charge. Now I just need to send the replacement back.

Yea I hope the replacement is better. If not I'm going to be upset and complain a lot.
I went throught something like this if my LG g2x . That phone has so many problems. And tmobile told me they couldn't exchange it because LG Saud it wouldn't fix the problem. So I ended up selling it and getting a new phone.
I had the same issue, but I have the Jump program thing which includes insurance. I went into a T-mobile store and said hey, I want a new phone and they said sure, no problem and overnighted me a new one for $5. I just have to send the old one back. I had no problems with it being rooted or unlocked.

Yup, same thing here. Just call, or go in and ask to send another one. Maybe we'll both get lucky on the next one

I'm pretty sure it's a third party company that refurbs them. They did a pretty awful job on the repair tbh... Glue left on the sides, and completely mis-aligned the screen.
If anything, after a few replacements, I'll see if I can't get them to just give me a new phone...

Well my other replacment is on its way.
I called in after and talked with someone. They said there just going to trouble shot it and will see what happens basiclly.
All i know is if i get another phone and it has the same problem then im probably going to switch to a note 3.
I call and talked to HTC and they said they could fix my phone but i would have to send it in and i have no other phone and dont wanna buy another phone while i wait for them to fix it.
Plus im starting to get scared now. My phone has the purple tint really bad,
The replacement has a yellow screen. I thought it didnt have purple tint but left it on the camera on the bed for a few minutes, and bam purple tint comes rolling in.
Not as bad as my phone but whos to say it wont get worse.
Also they wavie the fee this time, but they also didnt tell me to send back this phone so idk what to do with that.
I guess im just going to wait a week and see if the new replacement has the same tint. If so ill just call and try to get a different phone but i have a feeling they wont let me switch to a note3.
