[Q] It's possible to change back modem? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
There's anyway to change back for my old modem from 4.0.3?
I was using 4.0.3 baseband version I9100UHLPF and kernel version 3.0.15-i9100VJLP7.
Now i'm using the leaked JB.
Thanks.

No.

Not that i think of any method. Was trying that myself but always ran in to bootloop.

Huh ?
OP - You can flash whatever modem you want. Doesn't matter if it was released with a GB or ICS stock rom. Obviously different modems will work well with different networks in different locations so a given modem you try may not work well/at all with your network/in your area, but there's nothing stopping you trying any modem.
If you want to go back to your previous modem, search for a CWM or Odin flashable version of it on here/with a Google search.

I'm asking this becausa i saw some people saying that the modem is related to battery drain, so i was thinking if i change back to my last modem from 4.0.3 i could get more battery duration. Am i right? It makes sense?
Thanks for the support.

I was readin about this right now read this and the page has the modems if you need them, but furst read the posts!

Yeah, sometimes changing modems might improve battery life a little/lessen drain if your phone is able to maintain a more stable/reliable connection to nearby towers (that's assuming you're getting drain because it's having problems keeping a stable connection with the modem you're using now).
You'll only know if you'll get less drain if you test it out
If you can't find a CWM or Odin flashable version of the modem anywhere, download the entire rom from somewhere, extract the modem.bin file from the rom tar/md5 & flash the modem.bin in the Phone section of Odin.

You can get bootloop, WARNING!!!

Yes and that was on ics right, the jb leaked has the modem with it that i think (correct me if im wrong) will lead to bootloop or modem not working correctly.
But still im a noob at this but i like to help people, so i started at xda as you see at my thanks

nope. again, think about it...what makes you think you have some kind of specific firmware?
KI8 is the latest - 2.3.5 - can be found on this forum with full instructions how to flash
it doesnt matter what you are on. just flash the firmware
Thanks a lot
So if I flash a ROM with kI8 it will automatically put me on that ?

i was confused about this too coming from a non samsung phone.
i believe what you would do (if you want KI8) is flash the stock KI8 kernel, then flash the cf-root for KI8.
after that you can go ahead and flash any roms built off of that kernel, or any other roms but if they use a different kernel you will no longer be on ki8

no, flash the full firmware which has the stock kernel included...you can then flash whatever kernel over the top if you wanted to

KI8 IS the stock firmware. it has the KI8 android 2.3.5 OS, the stock KI8 kernel and the relevant modem
This is making my head hurt....
Ok, so if you are currently on (eg) kh3 firmware, which is the third release from august and you want to update to KI8:
Go to intratechs thread, download the KI8 firmware and flash it through Odin
You will now have the FULL KI8 firmware, KI8 Kernel and modem....all stock
At this point you can flash cf root kernel to root your phone, you may want to flash a different one, your choice. this does NOT mean you are not on KI8 anymore...you have to flash a new firmware (KI3 for example) for that to change
haha, sorry for giving you a headache. but i do appreciate the time you took to type it all out. thanks

[Q] Newbie --India --Three Network mobile -- Basic Questions

Hi All,
I bought a used galaxy S2 I9100 yesterday, new to android.I have been a iphone user for 4 years and pretty aware of jailbreaking, unlocking installing custom firmwares. the terminology here in Android world is different though.
Have searched and read through different guides on the forum but still got some questions.
Model GT i900 LKAH3G
PDA i9100XWKE1
CSC I9100H3GKD4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] # 2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Looks like it was on Three network but it is unlocked mobile as i can use my airtel sim on the phone.
I dont want the Three network related stuff on the phone so i need to debrand the phone -- how to do it? there is guide on XDA forum but it talks primarily for O2 phones or might be i did not read it correctly. (there are also some options like the network mode which are disabled on this ROM )
Once debranding is done should i be ok to use any ROM or kernel?
Which would be best ROM to be installed and will it work for me in India.
Can i install the custom ROM and would i be able to install apps from the android Market.
If these have already been answered , can you please provide the link for that thread.
Thank You
I'd advice you to try the new ics roms, you can find the instructions inside the various rom threads, flashing these roms will get rid of the three junk as well as update your phone to the latest android os a.k.a ICS ..........
there is no such thing as a best rom for a specific country, but you can try different modems to find the one that gives you the best network and battery, you can find your modem under the baseband in about phone....
google for more info
happy flashing and welcome to Android we luf you here...........
Learn how to use Odin
Download stock gb from from checkfus or sammobile.
Flash using Odin, you will be unbranded.
After that root using cfroot, now learn how to use cfroot.
Now you can flash custom roms.

Hi KJplasma &atifsh
Thank you for the details.
can i install the below listed indian stock firmware using odin
PDA :I9100XWKE8 CSC:I9100ODDKE2
or do i need to install the firmware from UK
PDA :I9100XXKF2 CSC:MULTIOXAKF2
do i need to change the csc if i install the UK version?
Thanks
forget about csc.
if you have i9100 you can flash any region ROM and use in any country.
if you want Gb than go for la2 italy rom , iv used that and last time i check that was the fastest stock rom for GB
you can also flash ICS rom like uk lp7 too, just stay away from lp9 roms at the moment.
ad dont forget to wipe using the dialpad code *2767*3855#. [will wipe all data stored]

My friend dont go for LPJ that is unofficial beta release,
go for anything above LPQ on the sammobile firmware list ...
or pick anyone from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487.
Thank you Zac and Atif.
I have tried to do a factory rest from the phone's privacy menu but even after everything is done, istill see some files in the gallery.
i tried the code *2767*3855# everything goes fine but i see the message "cant access to system\csc\h3g\system\" and then the phone strats as normal.
can i flash it to the OS even if i am getting this message using odin or do i need to
do something before i flash?
factory reset will not delete your user stored data on the SD card...that can be manually deleted...if you want
you can flash the OS from ODIN
thanks for the responses.
I have upgraded to I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP, and its working fine. the only problem seems to be its heating a bit where the camera is located . will read more topics and see why this is happening.

Yes though the newer dxlp9 was much better, previous one had bunch of issues including sleep of death.
Also that ROM introduces the contact/dialer lag bug. Which some how got to Google account and now every time I sync contacts it get back.
I deleted all my contacts and synced again and it's all better, tried on dxlp9 and was working fine, than I switched to my regular cm9.

For a start, if you remember your last ROM that doesn't had heat issues, flash that modem. Doesn't matter if you use GB modem on ics.
I flashed the modem of my region xxki4 which is 2.3.5 jpkj2 and had no issues of heat in ics.

Yes, just flash stock rom via Odin.
You can go back and forth to and from any rom you wish aslong as its for your device. Which means dont just flash any old **** to your device, read, learn enjoy.
Learn using some stickies
Wipe using cwm
Flash using Odin, but In my opinion flash lpd instead of old lpg

Yes, as long as you read the instructions of installing CM9. People get problems after installation usually due to not properly installing.
Also it would be best to be patient for replies, instead of posting for an answer just 30 minutes later. Plenty of people wait for replies hours to days later.

question about firmwares

So I'm downloading Wanam stock deodexed XXALF6 firmware to be flashed in CWM which says "NO WIPE".
The modem is DXLEA
and it says it's Malaysian.
Here's where my confusion is. I think my modem is LF2 (according to Kies)
Will I need the same modem as I have now for best compat with my network? Can I install the CSC for my network to keep APN stuff and MSS without it altering the stock sammy nature of my ROM?
Also... is everything going to be in Malaysian?

I don`t know about Malaysian language included in the rom, better check on the Wanam thread. As for the modem it can be changed by flashing another modem eather through Odin or cwm. Your apn settings will remain unchanged and are not beeing changed by using another modem. Modems can be flashed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740061.

I dunno if I can be bothered messing with the modems, though, I get a decent speed, around 2mbps, which is better than my old Orange phone

I depends on country and carrier (network provider) so what I tried and am using is no use to u. Unless your in England and on Vodafone. Just get the speed test app. Flash a modem. Record its speed. Flash another modem etc etc and work out what's best for you.. that's my best advice

No need to wait just root your device and flash some good custom roms, like omega or something. Stock roms are good anyway. You wont regret rooting or flashing if you do it right. Trust me
