Brand new 101G9 Turbo not holding charge - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Only got the replacement yesterday, upgraded to 4.0.26, did a full charge overnight to 100%
Been at work all day so had very minimal useage; few emails / browsing. The tablet's been asleep most of the day and already I'm down to 35% charge!?!
Is this a problem with the new firmware? Does it sound to anyone else like the device may be faulty?

Me 2
Don't matter, u are not alone, i have the same problem.
Since firmware 4.0.25 (also 4.0.26) i need to charge my G9 everday, by very less use.
With the old firmware 4.0.7 i could use my device 3 days without charging.
I hope Archos fix this problem quickly, i this way te tablet is worse too use.

For me, the second day is better. I did another full charge overnight and today it seems a bit better...
I'll keep a close eye on it.

Archos 32, huge battery drain in TURNED OFF player!

Hi i'm having problem with my device here. If i turn it off (i mean completely!! not deep sleep but turning off) after night (like 8hours) when i turn it on it is lost like 15% of battery!!! My phone with android loses only 1% per night when being in deep sleep and this player 15% when it's turned off!! What may be the problem? Is android gets wrong data or it's battery ****? But it charges long so maybe battery is not bad. Bad batteries in most cases charges very quick and discharges quick.
I'm using newest stock rom.
Kinda sounds like your battery is whack.
I had an old ipod that did a similar thing, until it totally died - It would take hours to charge and report full, but then it would die 5 minutes later, regardless of time on or off.
If it's a newer unit, I would look into an RMA, you might get a brand new unit for just waiting a couple weeks, or at the very least, a used working one.
If it is not covered by any warranty, I say good luck, there aren't many sources to get Archos parts for replacement, you may be better off getting a new one, or waiting for the G9 series to drop.
Good way to find out whats really going on is to charge the battery full, then run a video loop to see how long it takes to fully discharge - according to the Archos website, you should get roundabouts 5-6 hours of playback.
Start there, then adjust the plan accordingly

i have bought it from ebay... usa and i live in europe. seller said it's new but box was ****ed up and so no... player looks like new.. anyway ebay did me a "favor" said return it and i'll get my 80$ back but it cost a lot to send it. But sad i think that battery is **** too.. i think video playback would go like 3hours.not more.. I won't buy new just because new series come i don't do that i buy things and use them like 4-5 years. Sad.. but it's good that i paid 80$ not 149$ Thanks.
Moved to proper forum.
can some1 help?
i have the same problem.
When i go to sleep my battery has %100 , and when i wake up after 5-6 hours,it just has 50-60% without doing anything.

Battery Life

I am seriously thinking about returning my Sony Tablet S.
I can't seem to get more than 3 hours out of this without a charge.
I play a full movie with wifi/GPS on and then i am down to 30%.
I do have it rooted and most of the bloat apps is gone. I check the battery indicator constantly and the biggest app using battery seems to be android so nothing is zapping my battery life.
Any ideas?
I think something is wrong with you're tablet, mine lasts for more then 8 hours without root.
So yes, return it and ask for a replacement.

Try and adjust the backlight intensity
When I first used my tablet the battery seemed to be gone in no time. I have found that reducing the backlight manually has helped. I would say there was a definite difference.
Thanks for all the responses.
Problem is this is for my kid. He don't really have the patience to wait for charges every day.
He like to watch movies on the tablet and play some games here and there. Considering he only use it for 3-4 hours a day, this is insane how short the battery is.
I thought i will never say this...but another android guy bite the dust and cross over to the evil apple kingdom (exchanging for the ipad2 with 10 hour battery life).

so we've all told you that it doesn't sound normal and that you should get much longer out of the device and your answer is "it must be android" rather than a faulty device.......
8 hours to 10 hours on mine, depending on what i do. with and without root, it doesn't change my battery life.
Mine about 8 hours
Had the same issue in the past... Delete all on USB and make a factory reset solved the problem. Now it run up to 8 hours.

Same issue and fix here.
I have decent battery life ( 6+ hours) but one thing that makes me wonder is the idle time.
5 hours of screen time is less power consuming than the tablet being 20 hours in idle. Has anyone the same experience?
Yes. In my case it's the 3G modem. Turn it off generally and only on when you use it.
If I compare this case with my iPad I have to say, that the 3G modem in the sony uses much more energy in idle than in my iPad.
My Tablet is WiFi-only. And WiFi shuts down when the screen goes off.
Battery use:
Tablet idle ------------ 49% --> 15h 8m 57s
Screen---------------- 37% --> 4h 56m 31s
Is this strange behaviour or am I just paranoid since this is a totally different battery usage than on a phone( e.g Sensation)?

I report the same type of stats...
Its using a lot of battery in sleep mode. But sometimes it doesn't, sometimes sleep mode last way longer but most of the time its about 25-30 hours in sleep mode and that is way too much...
I hope ICS will fix this, if not i may return mine.
And not 2g/3g/4g here, no celular radio here.. So, its not that.

USB??? you mean internal SD card (/mnt/sdcard)?
Yes. That's what I mean.

Hmm. You do realise playing videos and having the wifi on in the background will cane the battery? Even more so if you're streaming said videos to your device via wifi. No doubt you've got the screen turned up full brightness as well?
Mine runs perfectly well and can last for a couple DAYS between charges, depending of course on how I use it.
Follow the tips provided by the others, you might get a fix. If not, get a new one from Sony. It's not a problem with Android - I suspect if you watch hours and hours of movies on an iPad you will still experience excessive battery drain because of the intensive nature of what you're doing!
Thanks for all the suggestions. If the tablet is for me to use daily, I probably would have condition the battery, try to delete all and then restart. However, it is for my kid and frankly it is unacceptable that a brand new tablet after watching one movie (just regular mp4 file i installed into the internal SD) is down to 30% charge.
I won't even start with the rest of the things i am disappointed with; the missing 6 gigs on the 16 gig, the screen little darker than i wanted (the screen protector I don't like at all), and frankly honeycomb in general is not that crispy and well developed.
I did end up getting a Ipad 2. After watching 1 movie, the thing still got 80% juice left....is night and day. Screen is sharper and brighter and most importantly it last more than a day without charge.
I don't want to hype about ipad here and i am still an android fan (i got 2 android phones), but the ipad really is WOW compared to the current corp of android tablets. Yes i am disappointed i won't be able to "tweak" the ipad like i can with droid pads, but Apple OS is so much better developed than honeycomb or ICS for that matter that really you can live without the tweaking.
For all you guys, with Wi-fi only (and 3G if you like the solution), before putting it to sleep put the device in flight mode. I've done it on mine and it was asleep for 4 days while I went out on a journey and when I came back only 30% of battery was gone...
I honestly can only fault the ipad in the sense that a media device, that for all intensive purposes is basically a more convenient option than a laptop, does not have flash support. Quick web browsing on tablets is great but it's useless without flash :S. Damn apple. Other than that I think the iPad is pretty great, especially now that the pricing for the new iPad has become alot sharper than in the price. Obviously to combat the success of Android tablets of late. But all I want out of a tablet is a bit of web browsing here and there, a couple games now and then and a nice digital photo frame to boot
I don't know about everyone else, but I have no desire to flash the crap out of my Sony tablet like I do with my SGS2. Now that I have root access it's doing everything I wanted it to do (and should have done!) from the start. So long is it's stable and responsive I'll be happy with it for a few years at least.
I was never happy with my tablet from day one but for me it was just software - sluggish and app incompatibility - a factory reset and root has fixed all that now. Never once have I had an issue with battery life. Sure as hell out-does any gameboy/ds/psp I've owned. Standby will last weeks if I don't touch it too.
So to those of you getting around 1-2 days standby time, something is seriously wrong with your tablet. There must either be a fault with your battery itself, or some app has gone rogue and just keeps it awake the whole time. i dont think any type of conditioning your battery will heed any results;
I didn't condition my battery at all when I got it and it's just fine. I played it with the 5% charge it had out of box till it died, got home, charged a bit, played with it till it shut off again, then when it got about 1/2 full just took it off charge and played with it again. Now it normally gets charged every friday whether it needs it or not.

[Q] Recharging the Xperia S

Hey all,
Since there's no Q&A thread as of yet, I'll be posting my question here.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched for it but couldn't find the answer.
My Xperia S just came in today, I started recharging the device when it hit around the 10%.
However, it's recharging so, so slow! Is it supposed to be this slow?
I thought the Xperia S was supposed to have fast charge capabilities?
If so, how do I charge it faster?
It's a Dutch unit btw.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have a generic UK unit the first charge does take slightly longer. It took around 2.5 hrs after that I got from 1% to 100% in just under 2 hrs. You are not charging via your PC are you?

Nope, using the supplied charger and cable..
EDIT: Also, there seems to be some lag on the home screen and especially in the app drawer.. Anyone notice this?
There are 2 versions of chargers shipping with the XS, EP800 ( less power output ) and EP850 ( More power output )
check your charger to see if it is an EP800, i am pretty sure it will be. The 850 does its job much faster.
Another way Sony is "cheating" on us.... after i got my XS replaced twice in 1 week and already waiting on another replacement it just do not surprise me anymore that things like this happen with this device.
First Flagship from sony alone and it is already a catastrophe

Ah, you were absolutely right. Second charge was way faster.
I believe I just recharged 60% within 30 minutes.

Yep, it's an EP850. The first recharge takes ages, but the second recharge is pretty darn fast.
I don't have any problems as of yet with the XS, except for its laggy home screen.
Wonder if I'm the only one whose home screen is lagging..
What's up with yours?

I don't get screen lag I did take mcafee off my phone. Also any apps downloaded apps you are not using turn the service off.
is ep800 safer 4 battery? quicker charging = shorter battery life?
more mA -> more resistance -> more heat -> less battery cycles life?

Someone else may know this better, but, as far as I know, Xperia S have tech so it recharge faster without problems.

It's no safer than the 850.
The phone was made to withstand the 850 charger (one of the selling points actually was its charging). My phone (Tmobile NL) was shipped with the speed charger, but I'm noticing that after a few weeks the phone seems to be charging fast in general, on any charger...or maybe I am just imagining things?
I have an old BB charger that I use sometimes (I have chargers all around the house from old phones, i swear :/) and it seems to also charge it fast.
Edit: Also, on both chargers, my battery life is just as fantastic at night I charge my phone while I sleep though ( I don't get why you wouldn't charge your phone while you sleep?) so maybe my battery is more worn-in than a lot of people.
My phone is plugged into my " old " desire charger at home, which seams to charge faster than the default one , saying that , I also use my PC to charge ,so maybe the little top ups help + the charger at home .
It does last a while now, however we are running a powerful ( mini ) PC , so we cant expect too much !!

[Q] Problem with Archos 101 G9 rooted

A few days ago I installed in my Archos 101 G9 Turbo version 4.0.28 with root access, published here. Everything went wonderfully. I leave it charging at night and in the morning was 12% and was at about 60%. To the extent that the battery ran out. Could this firmaware have a problem?
No problem for me . Try news install and test with no rooted firmware . And install archos aos firmware 4.0.28 after format tablette.
Try rebooting, I had charge issues and rebooted then left on charge

Restarting before putting it to charge is the only solution to avoid charging problems. At least for me. Thanks for the contribution.
panoramic problem
The other day I tried to make a panoramic image despite what cumbersome it is. Well, everything right, but when it starts to process the image, it gives an error and closes. Never tried this in no rooted version. So I do not know if the problem is in this rooted version.

LG G5 (RS988) Battery Won't Hold Charge - Please Help!

I bought my LG G5 new last November (2017). Ever since last week the battery can't hold a charge for more than a few hours. It goes from 100% to dead two to three times a day. Before this disturbing trend, my normal usage would get a full day off a full charge.
A normal day for me is listening to a music player w/ headphones, making sure the screen in on standby. If the screen isn't off I'm just doing light web browsing, like checking forums, searching eBay, reading articles...just really basic web browser stuff. I make sure to keep the brightness at 40-50% on average; close to zero at night.
Anyone have an idea why this happening and how to remedy?
Thanks.
The battery is most likely no longer able to hold a charge, like you described

After the last OTA update mine suddenly started to do the same thing. I bought 2 batteries online () but they did the same thing. So I got the unlock file from LG and installed twrp and lineage 15.01. Battery improved some. Installed greenify and now i get almost all day. I still swap between 4 batteries. Each lasts about 8 hours and I always take an extra battery with me when i leave home and plug in car charger.

What's the OTA update? If it doesn't download automatically that's not the reason. Plus, this just started happening like 5-6 days ago.
I ordered a new battery yesterday. I couldn't find one that said it was compatible with the RS988; hopefully it works with my model.
Someone suggested I test my battery with a multimeter. I actually have one.. can't belive I didn't think of that. Also, never heard of greenify. I'll have to check it out.
Over the air updates are pushed out by the carrier or manufacturers. I don't know the last version but they can be automatic so you might have it. I found another thread on this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/rs988-software-update-21c-t3663768
So I got the new battery in the mail and no dice, it still is chewing right through it. It doesn't seem as drastic as it was initially, but I still need to charge it again in the mid-late afternoon.
I think it could the charger. Shortly after i got the phone the battery wasn't holding so well. Then I left the stock charger at a friends. I didn't have time to go pick it up, so I bought a replacement and all of a sudden the battery was holding all day. Then after a while that new charger wasn't holding the battery, so I switched back to the stock one and it was holding it all day again. So chargers have alot to do with battery performance. I ordered another one; hopefully that fixes the problem.
It was the USB-C cable. I bought a new one and I'm getting a full 24 hrs of charge.
