[Review][Pics] Another week with my Nokia Lumia 920 - Nokia Lumia 920

Alright , several people here might be familiar with my name and my review of the HTC TITAN back in the day. Do i decided to give Nokia a go this time.
So... i got my 920.
I will try my best here to explain everything that an advanced users like most of XDA members here are looking for.

Most of the Cyan 920 are only available online on AT&T , i got a Dev from Nokia hook me up with one so don't ask me why or how i get it.
Open it up, i must say i am impressed with the design and the color, it is a little bit bulky compare to the old built-like-a-tank TITAN , but it doesn't hurt my feeling.
Because the 920 use the microsim , so i have to cut my sim to make it compatible (if you don't want to spend like $5 for a cutter, go online, there is plentiful template out there for you)
The Cyan color is definitely catchy and i am glad that i got it. The device feel great in hand, but somehow i feel it kinda fragile. (i got a case for it anyway). And of course, Nokia doesn't allow you to throw away your old batter and put a new one in. It is secured inside that polycarbonate cover.
The Camera on the back look sleek and beautiful, but there is still questions about it, ( i will cover it tomorrow on the second post)
First boot, start up just fine, little bit longer than i expected.
The screen is the WXGA one , mean you still hold the same ratio from the old Windows Phone but with lager Pixel Density. (this one is 331 i believe). I mean , all the tile look very sharp and beautiful on the 4.5 inch IPS display from Nokia. The glass is the Gorilla Glass so at least i don't have to worry about it getting scratches easily, but screen protector is still recommended, i am still looking for a good one. The super sensitive screen prove itself , i can wear gloves and still navigate around easily.
The 920 is the LTE phone, so if you have a GoPhone service like me, you will have to add the VPN to get HSPDA to work. (wap.cingular). But overall , it work just fine.
So, first impression over the phone and compare to HTC TITAN II?
The phone is about the size of the TITAN II, longer and a little bit thicker. It is a little bit heavier in my hand but it is hard to notice. While TITAN has the usb port on the side , the Lumias seem to have the USB on the bottom of it (i like it)
The screen is definitely a plus for the Lumia, the picture sure as hell look sharper even though we all agree that pictures still look beautiful on TITAN and TITAN II. But because of smaller screen size and higher resolution, the image will be better on the Lumia/
As the first impression, i feel happy with the purchase, but the fun part has not yet come.
I will go over the hardware and software part tomorrow or so, keep the questions and request coming, i will answer.

Reserved

I also went from a titan to the 920 - agree that size wise its a wash, and the slightly greater weight isn't an issue. On AT&T LTE, you can really feel the network speed difference between that and "4G" on the Titan.

Sorry that i have some projects i need to codes and test before the end of next week. Something i didn't expect.
Sorry about the delay.

I just bought the 920 and also have a Titan 2..
I've noticed the 920 does open apps a little faster but on opening maps...both using bing maps..
the Titan is smoother scrolling around...I don't really play games so I can't compare that..
Honestly...I prefer the build on the Titan...whenever (if ever) they release 7.8 for the Titan..I could see myself selling the Nokia....

blue color is very nice:laugh:but my city cant to buy it,only white and black .,

Stick on with Matching wallpaper Cover

Has anyone treid any of these. Want to know if it covers all of the phone and how about a screen protector then and what the quality is like?
http://www.istyles.com/touch-pro2-c-292_489_698.html?page=0&sort=2a
That's very nice. I was searching for such a site. Maybe I will buy one for my Touch Pro2 and PlayStation3. I like the design of the covers.
When I buy some, I'll let you know!

P.S. Sorry for my bad English. I'm Dutch, you know.
There was a thread on here about 6 months ago with a similar thing and one guy had pics where moisture had got underneath the the protector he had on and it made a right mess don't know if these will do the same tho
interesting that they give you a matching background... well thought out product for sure!
I just ordered the carbon-fiber setup. Will post my experience when it comes in.
thats pretty cool, gotta look into this lol
Got mine in today. About all these are good for is personalization and minor scratch protection of unimportant areas. The battery cover half only covers part way and will only protect from scratches when laying the phone down flat. The cutouts are perfectly positioned and lining the skin up is easy, but be careful not to stretch the thin material.
The front skin is less impressive. Unlike in the photos, it does not cover the chrome trim at all. It is exactly the same shape and size as a die-cut screen protector, but the screen area is open. If you use one of those types of screen protectors then this skin is little more than adornment. If you use the square-cut type then it has to be larger than the skin's opening, which is exact to the Tilt's viewable screen area. This means there will be some degree of overlap. You could cut a screen protector to fit the skin's opening, but the likelihood of getting it perfect and without gaps is not high. Again, be careful not to stretch it when applying, especially the very thin sides.
To get the included wallpaper you have to go to a website and enter a key that comes with the skin and verify your e-mail address used to order. It will then be sent in an e-mail. I tried to use it with SPB Mobile Shell and it was magnified and all pixelated for some strang reason. Didn't try it with Manila since I'm no longer using that UI.
I guess if you want a custom look to the outside of your phone, it's worth the $12 (with shipping), but don't expect a lot of protection from it. Also, when you pass a finger over the edge where it meets the device you can feel it. Probably won't be long before it starts lifting and getting all unglued or ragged.
hey Miami.... post some photos of the finished application if you can.

Here's a fuzzy closeup of the edge. You can feel it when you pass a finger over it and it will probably be no time before it starts to lift. I've already got a ragged edge right where the stylus goes in from nicking it with my fingernails. I'll leave it be as long as I can, but I don't expect it to stay on too long.

Lumia 800 screen looks "serrated". Is it normal?

So I just bought a new Lumia 800. My previous phone HTC Mozart so I compare their screens and there is one thing that annoys me: while my HTC Mozart displays everything from fonts to live tiles smoothly, those in my Lumia 800 look "serrated":

}
in which the "No sim" one was taken from my Lumia screen. Similarly, when white texts are displayed in black background, they look serrated too which a little bit hurts my eyes.
Could you tell me if this is normal for AMOLED screens or is it just my device's problem?
Thank you in advance.
I believe this has to do with the Pentile Matrix of the Lumia 800.
search "pentile" on this forum for more info.
found an online artice http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/11/2699574/lumia-900-amoled-display-no-pentile
talks about Lumia 900 not having this type of matrix
Yep, what (s)he said. It's due to the PenTile matrix used.
Thanks for all the replies. Now I believe my phone's screen is normal, although I don't really like that pentile effect at all
Not many people do. Some people apparently can't see the effect at all. Annoyingly, I can.
I can see it if I look for it, but it doesn't bother me in normal use.
Unfortunately, I got used to the smoothness of HTC Mozart display, so this really annoys me
i find it's far more noticeable if you use more warm colours (like oranges and reds) than if you use blues or greens.
I am used to the pentile. I have always disliked pentile screens but now after using one for two weeks I can say the pentile doesn't bother me one bit. Even though I see it all the time as I'm sensitive to these things. The true black and good response time of the screen makes up for it. I now prefer it over the sharper screen of my old Xperia Play. Much more comfortable screen to look at on the Lumia.
Like comparing LCD to plasma. Amoled seems much easier on the eyes than ordinary LCD.
I can notice it and I hate it, but I knew what I was getting. The Samoled+ on my old GS2 looked much better. Honestly, even looking at my GF's 710 I have to say that I like that screen better for some aspects: pics and vids have more natural colours and look less pixelated, text is also more readable in the browser without zooming. Anyway at the end of the day the 800 is overall a much better phone, and its unique design mekes you feel like you're holding a true work of art in your hand. Right now thinking about going back to my super plasticky GS2 makes me cringe.

Nokia Lumia Magenta color

Hi
i ordered the phone on expansys and i have some doubts now...
I 've seen a lot of videos on youtube with the magenta Lumia, it seems more red than pink, but i also seen the pink one..
Some people said the pink one is indicated as "rose" on the box, and that the magenta is more red.
what about this model? :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuRYy067_dc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qdIjGKEbJlI#!
they both are more red no?
So, magenta is pink or more red...? I mean, i dont want to have a girl looking phone
I bought a red nokia case but it would be bad to have a truly pink phone.
thx )
look on the bright side... it will be a perfect match for the nick you have here )
lol
look what suits you bro....
and what you like, always...
since you have already ordered it,
can go for some other colored silicone jelly case
it totally changes the color of the phone,
i use it on my White Nokia Lumia 800 ( Black Case )
thx for the answers guys!
i just received it and will definetely keep it.
Is red/pink haha, love the color. I bought a S-line black case and an official Nokia red case, CC1031
i think it s gonna be perfect.
this lumia is amazingly beautiful, and wp7 is a fresh air cup, discovered it with Omnia 7 on october 2011, left back for android, now i find WP7 enough mature for a daily use and with this device... it worth definetely to keep it!
Woooah !!!
Time to flash the latest fw on it, and lets go

cool....
enjoy your phone mate....
do post some pic's,
as want to see how it really looks like
once i'll receive the cases, ill post some
come back soon
I, too, would love to see pics. Especially of the red case. I've held the Magenta Lumia in the MSFT store, but the artificial lighting really did a number on it and it looked more coral than magenta. I knew it was supposed to be pinker, but the tether wasn't long enough to take outside into the sun.
Were it not for Cyan, I'd love red, so the red case is on my list.
it will look like this
this is the exact model

Aw, sexy! Did you also order that from expansys? It's not on the US site.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005WU1PHK
but u can also find it easily typing Nokia Lumia 800 case CC-1031 red on ebay
just be sure its an official/ genuime one
damn....
this phone is the sexiest phone i ever came across...
and I'm glad that i have this beauty....
red looks good....
awesome choice mate....
That red really looks good
In my opinion cyan case looks better
hey
Happy to see you guys also love the color / device itself
I have wanted the cyan during more time but the red/magenta one is a bit more "strong" , than the sweet blue, so i highly prefer it.
In any case, the protections allows us to change the color in a few sec , with almost a new invisible skin on the Lumia )

What'yall think of this

http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/08/hisense-x1-smartphone/
Who in their right mind would buy a phone over about 5.5 in, any bigger and you look like a twat with it to tour ear
You know, I'd love the bigger screen, and those specs make it rival the Z Ultra. It's appearance also seems nice, though I've never heard of Hisense, so I have no clue about their build quality.
But... It's coming out in the Summer with those specs. What would roughly be a full year after the Z Ultra. By that point I'm hoping we either have or are hearing about (Depending on if we have a new chipset out that makes it worth the upgrade) a Z Ultra Refresh. Plus, the bezels on that thing look worse than the Z Ultra's- If people are complaining about those bezels now, this won't be drawing any support.
All that, and we haven't been told how big the screen is, which is arguably the sole draw of the Z Ultra.
Basically, unless it's hella cheap or is basically a nerd phone's dream (Something like 64GB internal storage AND an micro SD card slot) with a couple of other bells and whistles, I don't see this being a competition for the Z Ultra when it gets released.
Looked quite nice until I saw some of the images showing quite a gap between the plastic top (looks like aluminium) and the glass.
Then continuing to view the other images it looks like an old phone. Not that its worn, but that its dated. Like it should have been released last year.
Im still banking on the Z2 Ultra. Hoping it will have the issues ironed out. Namely the build, and components improved.
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.
Hisense is just one of dump Chinese phone producers in China. Their phones have bad quality and services. The phone comes with Android 4.2, maybe you won't get update to 4.4 for rest of your life. Since the user group is small, there is rarely custom roms and do not even think of CM.
Who? Those that want screens bigger than 5.5 and are secure enough not to give a f**k what other people think when talking on them.

Wasn't aware of that if it's truly the Hisense product history.
The device will be released by Sliver in the US and with 4.4 according to reps at CES.
Hardest thing would be leaving this hardware...which is the classiest thing in the industry.
And I agree...banking on the Ultra2 can't be a bad strategy. Wonder about overall sales tho, given the small niche this size device serves, and if it'd prompt Sony to even release an Ultra2.

I really don't mind big phones that's why I bought the ultra. but if this phone do not offers nothing better then the ultra but a bigger screen.... no I don't think so. but if it offers good specs then i'll see.

Leather Case for the S7

Hello guys,
I’ve been a reader of this site / forum for a long time, and as I’ve gotten lots of information I’ll contribute something now, too.
Since about 2 months I own the Galaxy S7. Although the phone’s design and „feel“ is great, I’ve always wanted some kind of protection for my phones, and it’s no different with the S7. As I’ve had excellent experience with „Noreve“, a company from Saint-Tropez / France, I ordered one of their cases this time as well.
If you take a look at their website you’ll find a huge variety of different cases for (nearly) every smartphone. And the great thing is, that you can really personalize the cases, as there are lots of different types of leather you can choose from.
I decided to go with the „Horizontal wallet flap“ style, I’ve had this kind of case before and really liked it. As the case is handmade it took some time till I received it, but quality takes its time ...
After opening the package, first thing you see is a black & red box with the NOREVE logo and lettering.

Opening this box, you still can’t see the product, but a nice red soft pouch that „protects“ the case.
After unwrapping the pouch, you finally can see what you waited for: the case.
I chose the colour „Indigo“ from the „Ambition Couture“ line of leathers.
The S7 fits perfectly, inserting it the first time the case is pretty tight, but it „loosens“ / adapts after a few days.
The case got a cutout on the back fort he camera as well as the flashlight. When it’s closed you can still reach the on/off button on the right, and when flipping it open you got cutouts on the left fort he volume up / down buttons. The clasp is fixed with a magnet and holds the case closed very well.
The front, well better to say the leather on the front, is soft and feels very nice, whilst the back is pretty stable and (should) protect the phone well in case it’ll fall down on the floor etc.
After using the case nor for about two weeks I can say it’s been the right decission to go with the Noreve case again. Even after some pretty harsh treatment and a few bumps there are no signs of weardown or similar, it’s still nice and pretty.
Although the price is higher than for other cases, what you get is superb quality and a case that’s going to be with you and your S7 for a long time ...
Maybe I helped some of you that are in search of a case for the S7, if you got any questions don’t hesitate to write some comments and just ask
I wish you all a nice day,
with best regards from Germany
