charger color disappointment - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Probably only fellow gray owners like myself might feel this way but are any others a little disappointed by the white charger? I know it's a nitpicky thing but I don't like the white plug and cable. Partially cause it reminds me of iCrap but mostly with a gray phone black would've liked better imo.

i agreed!! i didnt even talk it out of the packaging and just put it along with my s3 which came with a black one.

I can't say that it truly actually bothers me, but I was a little surprised to see a white cable and charger instead of black. Sure, I agree that black would have been better, but I don't really mind either way.

+1 Samsung should offer a exchange program to exchange white ones for black ones.

hillarious, i was thrilled to see a white charger finally, having bought a gs3 and having a blackcharger with it, i always found it odd.
I have a house full of black chargers, one white, i like it.
og droid black charger
droid x black charger
fascinate black charger
thunderbolt black charger
charge black charger
gs3 black charger
note 2 white charger, awwww shiiiiit

Lol, I could care less what color it is as long as it works.........

2 things I like about it though is it works and it charges at 2 amps........ Black or gray would've made it perfect

I was a little annoyed. Not enough to buy another or paint this one, but still was a little bit.

Yes I was disappointed should have come with a gray one.

I like the white charger..

I won't ever buy a white phone because it reminds me of iPhone and don't want to hear stupid questions from un-informed while at work(cellular retailer) or on the streets but I'll admit, for some odd reason I like the white charger, maybe because 99% of chargers and wires out there are all black.

I saw a white Note II and it looked gay so scratch the thought of switching for a white one to match the accessories.
Tempted to paint the charger and Smart Dock that's coming and swap out the white cable.

I'm creeped out that it's 2 apm. I've been using my 1 amp charger because my experience from car batteries is that trickle charging will make your battery last much longer. 2 amps seems too fast to me. I'm guessing it's so we are happy with charge time and we'll have to replace battery before phone. 1 amp leaves me at 100 percent after 7 hours. maybe less I'm asleep while doing it

LOL you guys are crazy lmao. The charger is a beast, thing charges my phone so fast that I feel like its on steroids, lmao..I am loving the charger, goes well with my monster surger protector that I got for 29.99 from amazon. I guess I am looking at it as glass half full.

I like the white charger. I but then again I got a white phone. The kicker is the 2amp charger. That thing is sweet!

Why I'm using the .7A one I have. Charging it slower is better for the battery. Having a fast one is nice for if you are low on battery in the day and have an hour to charge it, but not as a nightly thing.

In the time that a 2 amp charger would kill this battery, you will be on to another device or two anyway. I can't remember the last time I saw someone need to buy a new battery because a fast charger like in the car killed their battery.

My Incredible's battery did become noticeably worse over the 2 years I had it, and I probably won't feel the need to upgrade the Note 2 before I get my next upgrade.I had the charger that's easier on the battery so I figured it couldn't hurt.

I was annoyed at first, especially since it looks just like an Apple iPod cable at first.. Since I got a black and white case, though, it goes along nicely with it.

Just got this bad boy delivered today and so far, it works great and it has slot to charge a second battery but unfortunately not an extended battery. It does have a insert in the main cradle however that can be removed so you can charge the phone with certain cases and possibly an extended battery (Have not tested yet).
Pros:
Can charge the phone and another Battery at the same time.
Has a good weight and is very stable.
Cheap!
Cons:
The USB wall charger it comes with does not give you a full AC charge but a USB charge. I changed out the wall charger and I was back to AC.
Can't charge the extended battery on it's own. (you might be able to do some cutting in order to make it fit however.)
EDIT**** I know I said that this will charge an extended battery but I'm not sure that's fact yet. I believe it will only fit certain cases and not sure if there is enough room for the extended battery. If after testing it does fit, I'll make the corrections here. Sorry if I got any false hopes up.
looks cool, may pick one up.

I believe the blue light is power and the green light is for the second battery. If you put a battery in there that needs juice, it'll turn red and back to green when charged.

Maybe I have a different one, or my USB on the charger is at a bad angle but there's no way the phone will charge with the extended battery with or without a case. Bummer! Still awesome though.

Just ordered mine! Can't wait to play with this puppy
This is a better option than the Verizon dock that I got with mine. In order to use it I have to take the phone out of the case every time...and no slot for an extra battery. Now I just need to sell my dock...
Thanks for this link. I've been looking for a dock that will fit with the case installed.
Well first off I have to say that shipping with this seller is top notch. Wasn't expecting it this early.
Within the first 2 seconds of having this dock I broke the thing that keeps the battery snug in the back. I used my training from my days with the A-team to make the battery stick. The phone with extended battery fits but kind of awkwardly. I MscGyver'd something else to make it sit more naturally.
Umm I really do need something to charge both so I'd order again if I had to, it's a decent dock just not made 100% the way it should be IMO
I am looking at this unit or at another unit:

Not sure why anyone would have tried both, but if so, any comments?

I'm picking up a new phone from at&t tomorrow. The choices are the Samsung SG3 and the XO +. I've read the reviews, and after weighing the pros/cons and factoring in the price difference, I'm stumped. Does anyone have any hands on experience they can give me?

Personally HOX+ hands down. SG3 dual core vs. HOX+ quad core + 1, really no comparison. Only thing the SG3 has on the HOX+ is the 2gb of ram and sd card slot i believe it has in the USA version. I played with the SG3 in the store as before i knew anything about the HOX+ i was thinking to get it over the new iphone 5. Thing looks and feels like a cheap piece of plastic and not liking it at all and the dull colors the screen produces. Really personally preference on your part but if going off the specs along the HOX+ hands down imo at least.
Walk into the ATT store tomorrow and be the first to play with the HOX+ in the store and i think instantly you will make your mind up .

I see people complaining so much about removable batteries but unless you live in the stone age, how and when are you not near a wall jack to plug your phone in? I always have my device on the charger while i sleep so i start the day with a fresh charge, i work a desk job in an office so all day at work i can always plug it in if needed, then at home obviously i can plug it in if needed. Unless you're a world back packing traveler, who and why would you carry around 2+ spare batteries with you? lol, never understood that stuff?

An advantage of a phone with a removable battery is when the battery starts to deteriorate after maybe 3 years. With SGS3, you just buy a spare battery, pop it in and you're good to go. With HOX+, you'll have to take it to a service center and dissect the thing to have the battery replaced, and pay a service fee. Who knows if the phone will still feel as solid after tearing it up and putting it all back together. That said, I am still for the HOX+. Just something to consider if you're keeping the phone for a while.

Well of course but who the heck holds onto the same device for 3+ years, lol? Not matter how cutting edge your current device is (this for example for the time being as in today, who knows about tomorrow), in a few months and for sure in a year your device will be outdated even with the latest software upgrades and you'll be drooling over the next best thing. Longest i've ever kept a device was 2yrs and that was the Iphone 4 when it first came out. Only reason why i held out so long is because i didn't like the S3 at all and had high hopes for the Iphone 5 which is a joke compared to what's out now. 3 years, that's crazy talk my friend

I guess it depends upon one's lifestyle. I also charge my phone all night but during the day I am constantly moving. If I get to 20% by 5pm and then need to go out I like to have a spare battery in my pocket or briefcase. Also using the phone as a gps or tethering, which I do during the day, tends to drain the battery more than standby or talking. I spend a lot of time in airports and always see the poor folks gathered around the charging stands or wired to outlets in the floor. I don't have that problem if I have a couple of spare batteries charged. I can use the phone in the airport then on the plane. It takes 30 seconds to change a battery compared to hours to charge. Battery life is irrelevant if you can just replace them when they are dead, it doesn't matter if you get 12 hours or 24. At $4 each you can carry as may spares as you need.
But unfortunately it seems that the SG3 is the last top tier phone with a removable battery. The hox+, LG Optimus G, Sony Experia TL, and the Nokia Lumia 920 all have embedded batteries. Regardless I may end up with a hox+ and have to change the habits that I have developed since 2005. Maybe I will carry one of those AA battery recharging gadgets as a security blanket.

[Q] LG Qi Charging Pad

Who has this and how does it work with the DNA? I read on Amazon that it has a really loud beep when you place it down or pick it up, or if it reaches full charge, etc. Another reviewer said they simply opened it up and pulled out the speaker.
So I do have this. Works great.
Oddly enough if the phone was on vibrate I don't remember it beeping.

I have it. It only beeps when you first lay the phone on the pad. Love the convenience and mine is sitting on my nightstand, so the initial beep doesn't bother me since I'm obviously awake (I hope) when I place it on the pad.
I have it as well. It makes a loud beep when you put the phone down, and will beep if the phone isn't correctly placed. I have it on my bed stand and I have never been woken up by it beeping when it fully charges.
I just ordered one on amazon because they are 39+shipping rather than 79+shipping...
Honestly, this phone is perfect in every single way besides sense isn't my favorite Rom and the battery life. I have to charge it once during the day in addition to charging it overnight. Typical of wireless charging. It charges no faster than USB.
I think the heat may come from the wireless charging coil.
I ordered one last week for $34 shipped from Amazon. Got it Friday. Works like a charm and don't think it's that loud either
Not an iPhone.....
My concern is that the heat will hurt the life of the device.
Unfortunately the heat comes with the territory.
LG Charging Pad
I bought this charger and have noticed a problem that seems like it could be a defect. When I place the phone on the pad it beeps (no big deal). After a while when the phone gets to a full charge the phone beeps (no big deal). What I don't like is that the phone does not actually ever get to a "full" charge. On the pad I have, it seem to only get to about 99 percent and then stop charging only to start again after a few seconds. Almost every time the charging stops and starts, the screen lights up and whenever the charging kicks on again it does the glorious beep. I read this from one other person on a forum so I hope this is just a defective unit. Can anyone tell me if when using this charger, your phone charge light ever turns green? When using this pad, my phone's charge light never turns green and I'm concerned that by using this my phone is getting a lot of extra wear and tear from the on/off of screen and charging. I already contacted the vendor and I think I'm going to do an exchange. If the second one has this behavior, i'm probably just going to scrap it for the Nokia even though they're more expensive. It would seem you get what you pay for I guess and i'd rather not take a chance...

Was your phone hot or just the charger? I'm curiuos to as to what the long term affect is going to be but its a risk I'm willing to take for the convience of wireless charging. I'm still waiting to see if it will charge through an Otterbox.

For me, its just the phone.
If I use a wireless charging pad at my office, is it going to hurt the battery in any way to be constantly picking up the phone and putting it back down on the charging pad, i.e. constant short charging periods? Will it effect long term battery life or possible just throw off the calibration?

Broke my phone's ability to charge through USB

I dropped my phone a while back and smashed the screen. I replaced it myself and, to make a long story short, now it won't charge via USB. It says the battery's running at 80°c and it won't charge. However I can touch the battery at this point and it is cool to the touch. What I want is a build.prop setting to turn off the battery temperature sensor or something similar. Can someone tell me how to do that?
Everything else seems to be working fine.

So far I haven't found a cell phone repair shop that will try to fix my phone. One guy tried to replace the USB port, which didn't work. Another guy said he thought it is the Power IC. I guess that kinda fits since the phone speaker sounds all distorted with low volume too. It sounds like a wireless microphone with a dying battery.
I watched a few videos of Power IC's being changed. They made it look pretty easy. It requires a soldering blow gun that probably only a real electrician would have though. Wish me luck with finding a cell phone repair man with real electronic skills. There seem to be quite a few phone fix-it shops in my area. Surely someone can do it.
Or maybe it's something else. Anyway it looks like it's going to take a pretty sharp repair man to fix it.

Thanks for the reply. I have a spare battery and a cheap external charger. The charger is too wimpy for a GN2 battery though. If I can't get it fixed I'Il have to get a better one.
The thing that really sucks about this is I can't use it on my car dock. I love using it like that and it's tearing me up that I can't now. When my wife is with me we can use her GS3 but when I'm alone I like to crank my tunes and use my traffic app. Not to mention charging the battery. This phone has got to get fixed. It's driving me nuts.

From the reddit AMA:
“We added Qi wireless charging starting with N4 because plugging in USB micro B was such a hassle! (Which way is up!?) With this year’s Nexii, we support USB Type-C which has a reversible connector so there’s no more guessing. AND it charges incredibly swiftly: 1% to 100% in 97 mins on the 6P for example (the first ~45 mins of charging is especially fast). Meanwhile, wireless charging adds z (thickness). So, ease of plugging in + fast charging + optimizing for thinness made us double down on Type-C instead of wireless!”
hope the real reviews on performance, multitasking, day to day usage and camera starts coming in. the anticipation is killing me! (most importantly, whether it overheats and stuff haha)

According to google, Type C is the real killer of wireless charging.

you have too choice:
bigger batterie and aluminium
or
thicker telephone/less batterie, plastic and wireless charger
i'm choosing the first choice.

Did anyone else notice in this preview, there is a closeup picture of the back of the 6P, which seems like there is a visible scratch and a few dark smudges close to the Fingerprint sensor... I sure hope it's my imagination and this thing is more resistant to scratches...

Why there is not a single Nexus 6p video on youtube like with other phones? WHATS GOING ON? i thought this phone was ready for order at launch? like 10 days passed already?
To me, having a Tylt wireless charger is almost as good as having my old Galaxy with ZeroLemon 7500 mAh battery. My phone has been dead in the morning, sat on my desk at work all day while researching, YouTubeing, WiFi tethering etc and leaves work daily at 100%.
In all honesty I'm hoping that the 6P is significantly better than the N6 (which is awesome) and someone creates a wireless charging pad that plugs into this USB C crap so I don't have to get more cables.
P.S. USB C is not a replacement for wireless charging and giving it to us without USB 3.+ is a slap in the face regardless of how unnecessary it may be. Should have just kept the regular port.

No content can be released due to NDA. Look at this tweet from MKBHD. https://twitter.com/MKBHD/status/653045557787795458
There is no doubt he has the phone. I'm guessing in a few days we will have all the reviews we could want on the 5x/6p

Did you notice the reply to MKBHD from Google's brand new head of Android?
@Lockheimer: @MKBHD tell us more.

I can't tell if he's saying they can post more info (doubtful) or if it's a thinly veiled threat

It's aluminum... Not tungsten, of course it's going to scratch. Much easier than a plastic phone

Think of it this way now.... your phone is dead in the morning so you throw it on the charger while you eat breakfast and you are good for the day. Or worst case you throw it on the charger again at lunch for 10-15 minutes. You arent confined to using it on the wireless charger (that must be awkward?)

Not awkward at all. In fact I can use the phone while it's charging, eating breakfast and working and every time I have to move I just pick it up and go vs having to fiddle with the plug. Not for nothing I have quick charging in the car so it definitely helps, but when you work 10-12 hour shifts it's just so convenient and requires no thought to charge wirelessly.
I wrote that while charging wirelessly BTW
