I would like to sync Google account contacts and calendar events.
I am aware of the way of doing it using Corporate/Exchange sync. However this method only syncs My Contacts, and some apps don't work with such contacts very well. (These apps use Google contacts and events extra customized data which is not synced using exchange)
Is there an apk that can be installed to facilitate true Google Sync?
Any other way of achieving this?
TIA
Damn good question. Anyone have any answers?
1: in a pc, go to gmail, contacts, export in vcf and download to your computer, and send a email to yourself attaching the file
2: in bluestacks, open a internet explorer like dolphin or other, and go to your gmail account.
3: download the vcf file to bluestacks, and then execute that.
4: enjoy your contacts in your bluestacks and apps.

You don't need to email anything to yourself. Just create a folder named "Contacts" inside your documents folder and put your vcf file there. After that you only need to click "Import from SD" in the contacts import dialogue of Whatsapp app.
I admit that these are a way to get your contacts to Bluestacks but neither is an answer on how SYNC your contacts. Every time you edit your contacts on your phone you have to do this again. Not a good solution.
hello, how can I do the same process but, conversely, pass the bluestacks contacts to the cloud in Google contacts?

The majority of my contacts are phone contacts, is there anyway I can convert them to Google contacts so they sync with Google?
I had this dilemma yesterday. I'm hope you have Outlook. what you can do is sync you contacts with the HTC sync with outlook. then save your contacts by exporting them to CSV file. You can then import this phone to your web gmail account. Delete all your phone contacts and then sync your Google contacts by going to settings > data sync > Google > menu > sync now. I hope this helps
Damn, I don't have Outlook, there must be another way surely...
The only other way is to save to SIM and then import it from the SIM card. Only thing bad about that is that any facebook link will be lost mate.
Use ExportContacts, edit (if needed) the *.csv file to fit Google's importing rules (check this topic for reference), import the file to Google Contacts via PC and synchronize.
Or search for ContactSync in the market that will convert your phone contacts to Google ones. but try this if the above method does not work.

I would trully NOT recommend that. I've tried it and as it may have seen, all the contacts have been converted do "Google" type, but non of them actually synced with Google Contacts. At least that's what happened on my Hero.

I got the same results. They tried to sync, but I got a force close-msg. Had to delete all the changed contacts for it to work again
Question: How do you actually know which contacts are Google ones and which are not. In my virtually all my contacts are Google ones but there are the odd ones that are phone contacts and I'm trying to find them so I can convert them.
when you look in people they say what they are to the right of the name......
use 'Export Contacts" (contacts, contacts tab, menu, more, import/export) to send the file to your sd card as a vcf file. then go back to the same place and import them into a google account instead of phone.
What i did is, i exported my contacts on Outlook, and then went my google page > contacts > Import contacts.
I imported the file, and deleted all my contacts on phone.
Now im syncing my google contacts to phone
The title is the question. Please forgive me, if my searching overlooked the answer.
Just to be clear, my aim is to get "phone" contacts up to google.
I've deleted and removed the "phone" and "sim" contacts. I thought the "phone" contacts were just the stock numbers to check balances and stuff?
Why not just open your gmail and add them manually on your PC so they sync with google.... then go to display options and only show "google"
Thanks, but I'm looking for a non-manual solution.
Manually, I imagine, on the phone I could link all instances of a contact; edit or create a google contact containing the contact details; unlink the google contact; and delete what's left.
With more than a few contacts, that's more work than I'd prefer.
If you want to copy contacts that are saved to the "phone" and get them into your gmail contacts list you can....
open contacts..
press menu..
choose more..
select import/export..
export to sd card...
send that file to your computer or gmail.
in gmail click on contacts..
more actions..
import...
choose file.... the .vcf you created earlier
and gmail will bring them in and if you have sync enabled on your phone everything will be exactly the same on phone and in gmail and the phone..
probably an easier way to do this but this is what i found since i had 80+ numbers from my old blackberry sim
my contacts in my phone arent updating to gmail. im using the sync contacts section in the background data. what am i doing wrong?
Go on Gmail on your browser (computer or phone) and go to contacts and add them in manually. It SHOULD all sync just from adding it to your phone. Not sure why it won't but doing it this way should work.
To add to this idea. Once you have the wanted contacts in the Google server for sync delete the phone contact to prevent duplicates.
First, if you don't have Backup Assistant get it (see below) and then backup your contacts with it. From there, log into verizonwireless.com/backupassistant and export to csv. Finally, import that CSV file into gmail and remove any duplicates. I have attached deodexed but otherwise unmodified versions of BA, just push them to /system/app with adb and go.
How to delete the email registered during setup because I want to change to another account. Will the original email contacts be erased if I change to another email address?
Many thanks.
I don't know if you can delete it via the menu, but anyway, a wipe is required. If you have it rooted, use Titanium Backup just in case.
And if your contacts are synced with your Google Account, you will lose those, so be sure to put them on your SIM/other service.
And yes, email contact swill be also deleted.
I think you can delete a file with root explorer
@kadji: How you would do this ...?
@Kermit33
What kind of email app do you mean? Original GMail or Email or K9 mail?
The contacts on a android phone are synchronized with your Gmail (google) account.
Your phone is bound to one google account. If you want to change this account, it will have a massive impact on your phone (mail, calendar, contacts, market).
If you mean only a mail account on email app, you can delete a account in the settings of this app or add one. This will have no impact on your contacts.
Man if he want to remove Google account he have to delete a specify file with root explorer, i dont remember the name but i can google later

accounts.db should do it. The telephone will create a new accounts.db. or he can rename framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.bak and then rename it back again to framework-res.apk. That should also do the trick.
At least these to worked on my Xperia Arc. Havn't tried them on my Arc S nor Tablet S
I have a guide for it here on my computer.
Is it not much easier to delete the account via
'settings -> Accounts & Sync ->'
than open the account and choose 'Delete Account' in the upper right corner?

It's the email built-in of the tablet, I think I can delete it in the Setting - Account and Sync.
Thanks to all for your advices.
Yeah, settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Select account and click Remove Account should clear out the account and all the sync settings. Then you can choose Add Account and add your new one.
The reason I want to delete the original email, a gmail, is that the pictures in my Picasa are all uploaded to the tablet automatically! Is there a way to bypass this or there is some setting I need to do with the tablet/gmail account?
P.s. I can't delete those picasa album in the tablet.
@kermit33
I know this problem ... I have had the same in the past ...
I was confused wherefrom my smartphone 'knows' same very old pictures ...
The reason was ... from Picasa sync ...
(I have a German tablet, so I hope my translation of the needed steps are correct)
Go to ....
Settings -> Accounts & sync
choose your google account withe a "touch"
than you will find a list with checkbox and all google services
one of them should be 'Picasa Web-album'
Disable the checkbox .. and is done.
Thanks obicom.
I have tried that already but the Pisaca pictures are still in the tablet and can't be deleted. I think the pictures are synced to my device when I first set up my email account.
Hmm ... you should be able to delete the pictures
Do you have root access an a tool like Root Explorer?
The pictures are physical files on your sd card and must be deletable.
Maybe not from the gallery but with file explorer?
Could you try again and post the error message?
Keep me informed please.

In Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Gmail Account, you can just uncheck the Picasa Web Albums options and they should stop syncing automatically.

Please see post #12.
I need to switch all my contacts from Mobile Life to Google. I read the other threads involving this, but the solutions involved syncing the phone w/ Windows and I have a Mac. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-Adam
Try some app.(google it).
I know it on win , but on mac........?
I downloaded an app that exports contacts to a .csv file, which I can sync to google contacts online. When I do this, will they automatically sync to my phone? I want to figure this out before doing anything.. if they do sync to my phone, I want to delete the contacts on there now so I don't end up with duplicates.
Why not just delete the duplicates from you csv file before you upload it to google?

I did! All the contacts on my phone are Mobile Life. If Google automatically imports the contacts I sync to the website, there'll be doubles of everything.. 1 Mobile Life and 1 Google.
Has anyone used the ContactExport app? I finally imported the .csv file it created to google and it didn't include any of the phone #'s or other info for any of the contacts!
If you choose "Copy Contact" for any contact you can make it a Google Contact. This will sync up to your Google account, and doesn't create duplicates.
