I seem to have accidentally stopped MediaService on my unrooted stock S3 running Jelly Bean. Several media apps/functions are not working:
Not able to access sound settings - Settings crashes if I try change ringtones
Stock media player doesn't recognise songs stored in phone/SD card
Not able to access Gallery - Photos don't get saved to gallery
Alarm does not sound
I tried reflashing with stock firmware, that didn't solve the problem.
Any solution to this would be much appreciated.

Hello,
I just added some .vin files to update a music folders album art on my storage card. The phone locked up and will lockup ever time I select the Sense Music Player after a soft reset. It was working fine before. I have taken the newly added files off the storage card but still having the same issue. I'm really hoping I do not have to do a hard reset as the phone seems fine until I select the music player. I just got everything put back together from a hard reset over the weekend... Please help!
Thanks
I got no replies on this but figured it out shorty after posting
If you run into this issue, delete the file called AudioManager_Eng located in My Device\Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng. I hope this can help someone else.
Hi, I have a problem, since I downgraded back to the stock firmware, flac files are not seen anymore by the default music player. Motocast still sees 4 gb internal memory used as 'music' when connecting but the telephone doesn't. WHat to do?
bump. anything i can do to make it easier for you to find the problem? & perhaps give a solution
I know this is not a new issue by any means and I've tried to search for a definitive answer.
I thought certain ROMs were causing the problem that the phone cannot find certain mp3 files on the external SD or in some cases any music at all.
This has seemed to be cured by flashing a different ROM so so far so good.
I've been running revolt 4.4 and transferred a new album via PC USB to the phone yesterday. Poweramp picked up immediately as usual but Google play music and amazon mp3 didn't. So triggered media scanner manually to no avail. I tried clearing the media storage cache and data as I've often read but on any ROM this has never rebuilt for me...ever.
I ran a nandroid of xtreme v8 which has been perfect. Guess what ? New album in its folder in Music on the external SD card but the phone will not pick up. Any clues anyone . please ?
i had this problem , here is what i found to fix it
1) if it was a huge album ( more than 14 songs ) , u should trigger the media scanner and force stop the music player and just leave the phone for an hour or so ,
2) if it's a normal album ( 14 songs or less ) , copying the album in MTP mode ( rather than mass storage mode) will do it
3) if the problem presists , then downloading the album directly through ur phone or copying them through a usb OTG cable will fix it.
NB: media scanner root is a handy tool to manually trigger the media scanner

Ive never tried transferring as mtp so I'll do that thanks. I do use media scanner root already, what's a otg cable ?
Although files still exists in internal and external memories using ES Explorer, media wont show up in gallery, music player, and all media apps.
* I have not downloaded recent apps
* New media taken by camera app and screenshots are shown in gallery and if I rename them they disappears among others
* New media downloaded from web doesnt shown
* I have unmounted and removed sdcard and nothing changes so the problem is not from the sdcard
* Downloaded third party media scanners doesnt work
* I have cleared cache of "Gallery" and "Media Storage" also didnt work
So, any idea to get my old media back in gallery??
I think the issue is in the media scanner that wont scan for my media
Reflash and factory reset.

I want to fix something so I get the whole phone reseted??!
Suddenly, my custom ringtones aren't working and it's back to the stock sounds. My ringtones are mp3 files. What happened? Can I fix it? I tried clearing storage cache and rebooting.
Galaxy S6
not rooted
Good Lock
Nova Launcher
That sucked. I had to make new folders and move the files there. Then, reselect all my notifications and ringtone settings again. Really unacceptable. I searched the internet and tried all kinds of stuff (including deleting all .nomedia files, etc.).
