[Q] how to pick up tmobile 1700 signals on i9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There must be a way
Please help

Explain more. More details.
Sent From My Omega'd Galaxy S3 ...

There isn't. Its a hardware "problem". It isn't a real problem as the I9300 isn't made for USs T-Mobile bands

not sure if it would work but you could try to fix the phone's frequency to 1700?
for that dial: *#197328640# => Debug Screen => Phone Control => Network Control => Band Selection
I may be wrong as I do not know US T-Mobile's standards.

I am using that code all the time to fix my S3 to the frequency over here in Thailand.
Just tested again " *#197328640# " (without the ") and it works fine.

[Q] HD Voice not activated by default

Apparently, HD Voice is AGAIN not activated by default (as was the case with the S2). It is beyond me why Samsung choose not to activate a great feature, at least for those markets where it is widely used (as with many carriers in Europe).
The Code to activate HD Voice on the S2 does not work with the S3. Does anyone know how to get this work? The call quality of the S3 is already great, it must be incredible with HD voice
Same here, I am trying to find out how to activate it as it was working on my S2.
Tried to go to service mode by keying "*#197328640#" (notice that its different than S2's *#*#-code-#*#* or other android phones) but the audio menu where WB-AMR can be activated cant be accessed.
I think we need to find a modem version which supports this.
The Telstra page for the S3 (the only telco in Australia that supports it) says that it supports HD Voice. Someone on another forum posted that WB-AMR is enabled on their I9300T. I should see if I can get the modem from that, but the radio portion is different so reception will likely suffer.

I have a separate entry for [8]Wb-amr status
And it says that it is on. I use this rom I9300XXALF5/I9300AUTALE3/I9300XXLF5/I9300XXALF5
Hope that helps

Thanks! I'll try download it now.
the setting is there in LF2 roms . so is this hd voice independent of network provider or our network should support that feature?
edit:
looks like it needs network support...
Active for me. Omega Rom 5.2 siyah kernal and NELE4 modem. (3 UK)

It needs to be enabled in your CSC and to be supported by your carrier

I tried to enable it by the CSC files (the customer.xml specifically, AutoWbAmr setting), then rebooted the phone and nothing happened (still off).
Is it possible that I may require to apply these setting some way before they are enabled??
Thanx for the help Mopral

If you still have your modified CSC, try that:
-backup your app or do a nandroid backup in CWM
-use code *#272*YOURIMEI#
-re-apply your CSC (it will do a factory reset of your phone)
-check if HD voice is still disable
I think that CSC settings are just applied once so it need a factory reset to apply...

It says
WB-AMR SETTING: OFF
GSM WB : OFF
UMTS WB : OFF
unbelievable with all the modding and hacking going on that changing a simple setting seems so impossible.
I think it depends on the ROM first. As far as I read the WB-AMR codec is not part of every ROM.
Second your telco needs to support it.
Third both callers need to have HD voice respectively WB-AMR to use it.
Looks like a marketing feature to me...

I'm with Bell on the i747m. They support HD Voice (iPhone5, Motorola, BB), but not officially on the Galaxy S3. I tried the CSC trick (applying it, resetting everything) and still no luck. So I'm now guessing that my ROM doesn't have AMR-WB (I don't see the AMR-WB status either in the menus).
Is there a i747/i747m ROM that is known to have HD Voice (AMR-WB) ?
Thanks!

[Q] Default to HSPA+

hey all,
looking at getting this phone this weekend, but curious about the LTE.. I live in a rural area that doesnt have LTE, we will be on HSPA+ for a while yet. Carrier is Telus in Nova Scotia.
I have read that LTE is a bit of a battery hog, if there is no LTE in my area will the phone keep hunting for LTE?
Can i "disable" LTE and have it default to HSPA+?(primarily for battery consumption)
Thanks
EDIT: sorry i just notice the post about questions going in the Q&A, sorry, if a mod could move it, that would be great
Yes you can disable it. which carrier are you with?
Hi, I have the AT&T S3 and I've used the code *#2263# and selected WCDMA and the frequency, and now it stays on HSPA
I hope it helps!
Thanks thats what I was getting at (wasn't sure if you guys had that option or not) OP there is your method.
You can also get the app Phone Info to change your settings
Excellent Info! Thanks
Do you think the battery life will be better ?

There was a way to get out of this before, I think it involves you taking out your sim card.
Ah, here it is. Try this!

Does this mean that some ATT phones have a different modem than other supposedly identical ATT phones??
i found there is no need to use codes, etc
Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Network mode
Gives you 4 options
GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto Mode)
GSM/HSPA (Auto Mode)
GSM Only
HSPA Only

For ATT phones this option is locked out. FYI. Tmo, Sprint and Verizon it's prolly not. Only annoying thing about ATT's version so far. My HOX is the same way.
Root and you can access it I think.

Hi, I'm using the At&t version of the S3 on another network (Claro) and the code works. Maybe something is different because of that?

I tried this one but it doesn't work for me. I see the information and can run ping test but if I try to make a band change the new selection is not applied.
I'm only able to change it using *#2263# :/
Ohhhhhhh....OK.
idk *#2263# isnt working at all on my att phone.

Can AWS frequency be enabled on S3 i9300?

Hi,
I saw that some Samsung phones (Note, Note 2, S2 LTE, S2 HD LTE) can enable AWS frequency.
Can the same be done for S3 i9300?
thanks in advance,
*#197328640# or *#*#197328640#*#*
[1] Debug Screen -> [8] Phone Control -> [7] Network Control -> [2] Band Selection -> [4] Combi Bands = Tick option [7] WCDMA 1700 (FDD IV)
if u see the asterisc beside that option the frecuency it's enabled..
There was no asterisk on that band, I enabled it so the asterisk showed up.
I rebooted the phone and the asterisk was still there.
However, it doesnt seem to help, the sim card still doesnt register on the network

[Q] Data network keep changing between HSDPA /3g

Hello I updated my S2 to jellybean and the data network keeps changing between HSDPA and 3G. Making the use IMPOSSIBLE.
When I had the ICS there was a hiden menu *#301279# to disable HSDPA.
When I dial *#301279# I get somethin like "INVALID MMI CODE"
My phone is in spanish.
In JB I cannot get to this menu.
Is there an alternative to make it only use 3G.
Thank you

Strange it works for me, and I'm running 4.2.2

Any ideas?
Thank you
Data network keep changing between HSDPA /3g (SOLVED)
I found the solution in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818661
Found solution:
First enter service menu via secret code
*#197328640#
In the menu, choose the following items sequentially:
1 (debug screen)
8 (phone control)
3 (nas control)
5 (rcc HSPA control)
And then you will find the well known menu to change the HSDPA settings
Thanks
With my S2 I9100 with OmegaROM V12, the code *#197328640# does not work
Any help?

Lock into LTE only Mode?

Does anyone know how I could lock into LTE only mode? The phones I am using (T-Mobile & AT&T S5) is not rooted. Nor am I allowed to root it. I've search through all of the debug menus and its seems like I can only lock into certain bands. I havent had any success sending AT commands either....but I am not sure this would still even be capable as I do not know the Qualcomm AT commands to lock into a certain RAT.
Try this: Dial *#*#4636#*#*, look for LTE only option and select that. Hit home to clear out of dialer. Hope this works!

This works on most phones, but not the S5 for some reason. It must be another code.

I'll be following this thread. Hopefully someone figures it out. None of the apps on the play store work either since they all pretty much redirect to the *#*#4636*#*# code anyway.

Ok, so I figured it out. If you dial *#2263# and select "LTE Band Preference" it will lock it into LTE only (I am using an unlocked T-Mobile phone, not sure if that makes a difference). I have confirmed this via AT Commands. I have a new question. I have queried what bands can be selected. Does anyone know which one would be for LTE Band 17? What is "41.WLAN_US_5000"...
