Hello I updated my S2 to jellybean and the data network keeps changing between HSDPA and 3G. Making the use IMPOSSIBLE.
When I had the ICS there was a hiden menu *#301279# to disable HSDPA.
When I dial *#301279# I get somethin like "INVALID MMI CODE"
My phone is in spanish.
In JB I cannot get to this menu.
Is there an alternative to make it only use 3G.
Thank you

Strange it works for me, and I'm running 4.2.2

My firmware is stock GT-I9100 version 4.1.2.
And it does not work.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Data network keep changing between HSDPA /3g (SOLVED)
I found the solution in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818661
Found solution:
First enter service menu via secret code
*#197328640#
In the menu, choose the following items sequentially:
1 (debug screen)
8 (phone control)
3 (nas control)
5 (rcc HSPA control)
And then you will find the well known menu to change the HSDPA settings
Thanks
With my S2 I9100 with OmegaROM V12, the code *#197328640# does not work
Any help?

Someone had success installing toggle 2g in gingerbread At&t rom?
I already tried, but didn't work.....
Dev of the software only guarantee on CM6 and CM7 but I dont want to install this rom, due to lack of resources (webtop, fingerprint, etc).......
Someone can help?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
From what I understand based on the CM7 issue list, switching to 2g in the US is not working because of AT&T. You apparently have to call and enable it.
Here in Brazil it works...I can switch manually between GSM Only, Automatically or 3G Only.....but this app called Toggle 2G can do it automatically when we put in sleep mode....it's better because save much battery.....

have you called and enabled this on your phone, i am curious if you have it working and what you asked them to enable?
On my stock AT&T which I'm using here in Oz,
Settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile networks->Select network was disabled and wouldn't let me change it.
Take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14494826&postcount=24
Now all the toggle apps work.

I saw this thread before and even got the options ungreyed, yet selecting 2g changes nothing here in us
Well, I have not used that app, but *#*#4636#*#* then phone info, and then preferred network should work.
Is what I always do in areas with poor 3G coverage. I switch to GSM. And vice verse, in areas with good 3G coverage I set it to WCDMA only.
Sorry, I didn't realise OP had already unlocked the 'Select network' menu and it works.
I didn't find an app that would toggle 2g/3g automatically on a stock ROM. I just installed the 2G-3G OnOff widget that's a shortcut to the 'Select network menu, and I manually toggle it when in bad signal area.
I couldn't install it on my german Atrix with french stock rom. After installing the Toggle2G-Update.zip with CWM the app simply doesn't appear in the drawer.
Those of you who were successful, what did you do?
Thanks!
I am using GIO as wireless access point for my notebook, but in 90 % of cases when I am calling someone or someone is calling me it automatically switches to 2G and of course dropping internet connection.
When using it as AP its always connected to charger.
There is no option in stock rom to make it stay at 3G , there is only option to force 2G.
Was trying to uncover "secret" menu using "any cut" application but no luck with it.
I am using stock 2.3.4 Android , was trying 2.3.6 but there is no option to force 3G either.
I saw there is such menu to force 3G on SGS2 / SGN but not on GIO
How can I force Samsung Galaxy GIO to stay on 3G while talking with someone ?
It could be that GIO not be able to hold both, 3G and phone connection at the same time if you calling some one...Im not sure

It could hold both at same time , because sometimes it stays on 3G when talking and using it as AP, so have internet and can talk normally, but there is some stupid default setting that tells GIO to switch to 2G most of the times.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information-> WCDMA only.

Hello everyone!
Today I've activated the mobile data plan, but H+ is draining lots of battery. I've heard that the code *#301279# can disable highly power consuming HSPA, and force to use slower but more battery friendly UMTS (3G). And the problem - after entering this code in dialer nothing happens.
I'm on XEO XXLQB (ICS 4.0.4) stock Samsung firmware, rooted and on SpeedMod K3-31 kernel. What can be wrong? The system app "Service mode" is not disabled. Some other codes are working, but this one - not

I wouldn't suggest using the codes to do things with your phone. I hear that you can change Fast Dormancy from Off to On (It did not seem to do anything on my phone), but that is not just 4G to 3G or 3G to 4G. There should most definitely be a third party app (or widget) that allows you to adjust 3G and H+ from stock rom. I've seen them before. I don't use stock (so I always have an option to change to 3G if I want, but I know that you can finda third party app (or widget) to do so. You're welcome

Try the following:
- Dial *#*#4636#*#*
-Select phone information
-Under select network type, choose WCDMA only
Problem solved!
Let me know what happens
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
After changing it to "WCDMA only" phone sticks to HSPAP only, when the signal is very low it disconnects from network and doesn't "go lower" to 3G/EDGE.
I want to lock phone in GPRS/EDGE/3G and completely disable HSDPA etc.
Method using *#301279# was great, I've checked few hours ago under Android 2.3.x and it worked on it, but on ICS code's not working.
Hey guys,
I recently noticed that the default network mode on the Google Edition 4.2 dump is set to 0, or "WCDMA Prefered". Thus not enabling LTE on our devices by default.
It can easily be changed by using *#*#INFO#*#* on dial pad.
Im wondering if anyone knows where the default network mode is set or how we can modify the default network mode.
Im assuming its somewhere in Phone.apk or Settings.apk or some bool god knows where, if anyone can shed some light would be appreciated.
didnt work for me is there a diff code to enable lte or have i got to reflash a diff rom
I always used *#2263# to modify network mode

You guys are off topic..
I would also like to know how to change preferred network mode on my GE rom. None of the suggestions above work for me. If I enter the code *#2263# it tries to start something, but then it FC.
*#*#4636#*#* set it in there.
Set your default network mode in your build.prop too.

What are you using to set in build.prop ? The CM10.1/2 methods of doing this does not work.

ro.telephony.default_network=(8 for me because I work with CDMA)
With that I also add a lot of prop lines for the Verizon network specifically. You'll have to add your own network's information
No matter what you set it at though, if you go into network settings it will auto-switch back to WCDMA. I haven't fixed the link and switching yet but I did change that menu link to automatically open up *#*#4636#*#* instead of the menu that switches it to WCDMA. Kind of a work around for the time being.

The point is to hard code whatever property that menu is changing right into the rom.

I agree, and I haven't been able to get it defaulted to my network by the any decompile/recompile system edits I've tried that i found through researching/reading. I'd welcome the direct answer as to where that specific bit of code lies but given this thread and the lack of answers I'm going to guess that help isn't coming.
I've been slowly working through each core app and framework editing everything relating to GSM, baseband, and radio. But I've not found or fixed that menu setting that defaults to wcdma. I've found the menu but nothing that would initiate it automatically changing to WCDMA without even clicking the dropdown menu.

hi everyone, i am new on this site.
i recently got a new shv-e210s on hand. i used it around 2 weeks and i found some big problems with it. I CAN'T TALK ON THE PHONE MORE THAN 2-3 MINUTES it drops all the calls . it's there any fix, or can i convert it to GT-I9305?? HEL PLEASE i can pay to have it fix beacause io love this phone. thanks
No, you can't convert it. Sounds like a hardware fault, do a factory reset then flash the right firmware to test. Don't use any files for the i9300.

If you're using 4.3 jellybean there is an app in playstore as SKT Hidden menu on which u can go to network settings - Network mode - and select Wcdma all or GSM all which ever network u prefer
If you're using 4.4.4 kitkat u have to dial *#9090# and from network mode enable WCDMA or GSM
