Question about custom Rom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Is it possible to use Custom Rom that's out for other Carrier's Note 2 or should I just wait for one that is specifically made for Verizon Note 2?
I just upgraded from Verizon Google Nexus and I am loving this phone so far. I am just hating all these bloatwares that came with the phone.

The boot loader is locked at the moment so then won't be any custom ROMS until that changes. But that doesn't mean there won't be any mods.

Do not flash a ROM that isn't made for the carrier. You could possibly brick the phone. Plus we can't flash anything yet

Roms...?

I know the note is very new and I see there are 2 roms out there already! I'm new to att. Coming from sprint and evo..my question is how much dev support will this have? I've never heard of Odin will I have to use it instead of a custom recovery? Will I be able to just root and use cwm or twrp to flash roms themes etc..? I have 30 days to test phone. While I do love it I worry about dev support. Thinking if we will get aosp or miui love? Anyone have any inside news?

Off the cuff? I'd say a bit note than the average Samsung phone, seeing as how it's so awesome. Might take a bit though, Sammy isn't as nice as HTC when it comes to unlocking bootloaders.

Odin is always your fail-safe and safest was to flash...it's really not that hard...
BUT there already is a CWM Beta recovery that works great for the Note. So you will be able to flash everything the way you did on your evo

Actually Samsung doesn't lock their bootloaders. HTC or Verizon does. And yes you will be able to use CWM to flash. There is also been talk that AOKP group is building us a ROM.

You know zip about Samsung phones. Bootloader isn't locked.
This phone will have killer Dev support.

I'm going to go with as much dev support as the Skyrocket. And as much AOSP as the Skyrocket as well. At least for a while.

Let me get out my crystal ball.
I agree that there will be very good dev support. We already have two very excellent devs that have released ROMs and several others working on roots and other tools.
As stated, the CWM beta 3 recovery is getting great reviews.
I say keep the phone but it's your call.

All CWMs the same?

When ever I'm on a 4.2.2 ROM ROM manager thinks I'm hspa+ Galaxy Note 2. Would it still work on my Verizon note 2?

It may be close enough to work, but I wouldn't recommend flashing another device's recovery as not all partitions are the same. The important ones are from what I've seen, but I don't think others are.

Porting from international roms.

Has anyone managed to flash a fully working international rom this device? If so, what did you do to make it work on our device? I've seen a few guides, but I'm not sure of what to follow.
I'm looking to get a working miui on my phone, if anyone's curious

The only thing close to that I have seen is n7105 roms with Scott's Verizon patch. Some people have reported hashchecks Rom and others working just fine from that forum once they use the Verizon patch.
Try a few of them...so long as they don't have modems in them you will be fine.

I thought that just flashing the rom can cause service problems. MMS issues at the least. I also thought there were partition differences that could cause trouble. Maybe I'm wrong.

I have tried alll the roms in this forum for the NOTE II for Verizons and alot of the Att n7105 roms. I run into the issue of The GPS will not lock I really Like the Jedi Roms But can't run them because its based on N7105 and the I can't get a lock but, with Scotts international N7105 he has found a GPS fix still looking how to fix this issue in his and everyones Threads Help if you can Please !! I would love to help test I want to know so i can fix it. I haven't tried the patch with Jedi but I will. Any Other Ideas ?

I will say that I am currently running Scott's latest base rom from ATT forum. I could not get GPS lock. I backed it up, flashed his VZW 3.1 Clean Rom, acquired GPS lock, then restored the ATT base rom...all good. That is a fix I have found to work for me...YMMV, and it may be a slight pain, but it is what it is, for now...and for me.
I have personally tried flashing 7100, 7105, AT&T and Sprint s.. 7100 you get no service even after flashing modems.. 7105 run flawlessly and AT&T and Sprint won't get past certain screens.. I would love to run the Moon ROM in the 7100 android forum but don't know how to port

They should be fine, before you flash any make a nandroid. If they don't work just restore your backup. I would avoid the ones that say Only for X on the thread title, it shouldn't brick your phone or do anything you can't come back from but there is always the possibility with the ones that say Only for X that there is something in them different fro, a normal theme. Just be on the safe side and make a nandroid so if anything does go wrong you can always restore.

I would be a little more leery in flashing Sprint themes just because their kernels sprint writes /data on /dev/block/mmcblk0p17 instead of on /dev/block/mmcblk0p16 but that is only on the kernels and not themes. There are a few differences with the Sprint Note 2.
I would think that the Cleanrom or Beans themes would be fine, probably most other themes would be but I don't want to tell you 100% yes when I'm not 100% sure at the moment, I'm about 99% sure.
I know when I used the VZW S3 we could use *any* of the other carriers S3 themes so I would assume it would be the same with the Note 2 and the worst thing that would happen would be you might, just might, get a bootloop that could easily be fixed by restoring your nandroid.
Also I noticed you said you were looking in the S3 forms, S3 themes won't be compatible. Other Note 2 versions themes probably will be compatible but you can't just go using other phones themes when they're made for a completely different phone. At least the Note 2 versions are close enough that it shouldn't matter but using s S3 theme is asking for trouble.

Well that theme may work on the N2 if it stated that it did, I don't run themes when I am on TW so I haven't really looked.
I wouldn't flash the S3 themes, just because I don't like having to restore nandroids, but it could work. I wouldn't think it would but I am no master themer.
You might try asking this in the themes section and see if one of the themers had any answers.

[Q] Safestrap questions

I just purchased a new S4 this week. My last 2 phones were HTC phones which I rooted and flashed TWRP. HTC provides a method to unlock the bootloader. I only didn't go with a HTC One because of the lack of a removable battery and no SD card capability. Apparently rooting, installing recoveries and custom ROM's is a more involved process with the S4 because of locked bootloader. My understanding at this point is that I need to use the Safestrap method for recoveries and ROMs. My question is what if any is the downside of using Safestrap opposed to the normal method of flashing recoveries and ROMs? My S4 is MK2 with Android 4.3. Thanks.
Well with the way the s4 is locked down and safe strap being the only way for now to run a custom ROM... There are limitations to what you can do. No aosp roms or custom kernels. You can only run roms that use the stock kernel. After flashing a ROM you have to flash the modules for the bootloader you have.

Thanks. I did read loads of info in the stickies. There are some great tutorials on how to root, etc. I may have missed where it mentions the difference in how a phone works with a safestrap flashed rom opposed to one flashed by other recoveries. One of the reasons I ask is that from some comments apparently people are not happy about having to use safestrap. I now get the issue with being limited to the type of rom because of locked bootloader. I wanted to know if there were other concerns.

the only option available for non-MDK firmware phones is safstrap and it works with compatible roms which have grown in number. I have been using it since its initial release for the S4 and have zero complaints or concerns...
