Bought a Nexus 7 and giving my SGP5 to my grand-daughter. I spent last night deleting my account and adding hers. I'm using ssLauncher on my Nexus, but I wanted something simpler for the SGP5, so I installed Holo Launcher. Very impressed with it, should do well. My questions:
1. What are the best free games to load it up with (that don't too much obnoxious advertising)? (I loaded Angry Birds, Jewels, and Cut the Rope)
2. Are there any "kids" type cases (book style or pouch), I see plenty of TPU cases, but would rather have something more protective (wife thinks my black leather pouch isn't "girly" enough).
3. Best free texting app? (I use GV, but not sure if I want to set that up for her). Do they all require a phone#?

I would reccomend that you stick with Google Voice then using other free applications, because she is younger then 14 which violates the terms of service. Personally, I don't trust those free text number applications. However, with Google Voice you get a unqiue number which no other person has had.

So, I got to play with this at best buy and I must admit, if I had 300$ to spend I might have left 300$ there at best buy and walked out with it.
This tablet was the most fun I've ever had playing on a tablet. I wasn't impressed by ipad, the galaxy s tab was cool, but not really "eye catching" in terms of being worth the price..
This sucker was smooth though.. it ran really, really smoothly. It was probably one of the coolest things I've seen.
The weird part is that I really had trouble finding a logical use for the pen. It is always nice to get more for what your purchase, but I am having trouble finding practical uses for it. I am sure if I got one I would think of more uses after the fact.
A few times I've used it to take notes. But mostly, I use it to show my friends how much better my tablet is compared to theirs. I think the latter is what HTC was going for.
I use it to quickly mark up power points and presentation notes when I do reviews at work.
So far I haven't found a use for it. Taking notes on the tablet does not appeal to me nor does drawing on screenshots.
I use it whenever I need a paper to write something on. Paperless for me. Only print it out when I really need it. Environmental friendly as well

I use it to takes notes in my classes. I find the notes mobile app much easier to take notes with compared to the HTC notes app. Plus with honeycomb you can use the pen all throughout the tablet as apposed to only taking screenshots on gingerbread

I use it @ work (IT) for taking notes, since we are trying to go "green" in the office, it's my "see here ya go I'm going green"...and hopefully this means that work will reimburse me for it.
I never even thought about the possibilities involving roms.
Could be loads of fun.
Hm... wonder if ICS will have anything special for pen based tabs...
I design and manufacture parts for the auto racing industry.
I use the Flyers camera to take a photo of the area I’m working on then, note the dimension on the pic with the pen.
If need be I can take several shots from different angles.
I then return to my workstation’s cad program and I have all my info at hand.
It really helps me to visualize the part I’m working on.
For making a usable quick sketch and markups. I was surprised how much I started to markup screen shots of Web pages once I got used to the idea.

I got the pen just because it was on sale for 39.99 and I had a 10 dollar reward certificate. I'm not really sure how much I'll use it but hope with the upgrade it'll be more useful.

Make notes when reading eBooks.
Take a picture of office maps (fire routes work great) then mark them up for new network drops and whatnot.
I've started using it in place of anything I'd have used a paper notepad for. Extra cool that the notes are ocr'd and searchable.
Maybe one day I'll get around to drawing up plot diagrams, creating story arcs, and writing a book... Too busy for that right now though.
I use it to take notes. My daughter uses it for notes and to annotate her books for her English class using the reader that came installed on the flyer.
Everything. I am a recruiter for a consulting firm and take notes on my conversations with candidates - been using evernote for a few years so its a virtual database of people now. Also in grad school and use it to mark up powerpoints and sometimes record audio or the cam to capture diagrams on whiteboards. Used it at a family get together to find a pizza place with Google maps, pull up the menu, and write down (on the menu screenshot) our complete order - easily placed the correct orders and people were like "that is awesome". A life saving feature is accessing my home machine via logmein as well. I love this thing.

Hey guys. So I'm thinking of going to windows phone, i like it and all but there doesn't seem to be a lot of apps? and a lot of them cost a lot, like fruit ninja is 2.50 compared to 69p on Android.
Any help? Are there a lot of good free apps?

Ah, my friend, if you want a phone that syncs with your social networks, email and phone contacts, along with simplicity and ease with no hassle. A Windows phone is for you.
If you want a phone purely for apps and games, I would recommend an iPod Touch 4G, obviously if TomTom and GPS matters, then I would recommend an iPhone.
If you want to gain easy root access and modify the brains out of your phone, then I recommend Android. It's a big decision to make.
I chose Windows, after using all three OS's, and yes I'm a casual gamer, I love tweaking, but I don't even wish to tweak this phone, as it's so pretty.
As for apps, they have many, games most definitely cost more than all three OS's. Hope that helps.

If you are coming from Android, you will be disappointed at the prices of Windows Phone apps and especially, games. They are exorbitant in comparison.
Windows Phone is a young OS, which is trying to catch up quickly. Perhaps wait for another 6 months or so before you switch.
I too was in the same position 2 months ago.
I think the real question should be, what apps do you use? It's easy to look at the three marketplaces and say that the Windows Marketplace is lacking in apps. But do you really need that many apps? Switching to WP7 made me cut down on installing crapps. I found a good alternative for every core iOS app that I was using and in the end am very happy with what the marketplace has to offer.
The only apps I'm still waiting for are my banking apps (Chase, mainly for depositing checks, and Viber/Skype).
Most of the essentials are catered for. There's Youtube (unofficial ones are better), IMDB, various Twitter clients. You barely need a Facebook app because it's built into the OS.
Games are annoyingly overpriced, and many of the titles I've tried have not been updated for Mango so run at a choppy 30fps. Even Angry Birds is not as smooth as Android or iOS and it's a simple sideways scroller. There are a few great games though, Rise of Glory and Jet Car Stunts are brilliant. Plus some excellent free titles like NinjaBoy.
The apps I miss the most are Google Earth (and Skymap) and there is no native Amazon app anywhere except the US.
Coming from Android background, one thing I find most annoying about Windows Phone is the lack of a true dialer replacement (I believe this is due to OS limitation). I am currently using the paid version of 7Dialer but it does not really replace the default dialer completely. Missed calls are not captured, contacts don't synchronize in real-time, slower launching time and a few other issues.
The same goes with keyboard replacement. Being accustomed to the intelligence of SwiftKey, the built-in Windows Phone keyboard feels very inadequate in comparison.

I also miss 3rd party Messaging apps. Need QuickReply

If games are what you're after, no point switching to the WP, at least for now.

It's open to all. The Note exclusives were supposed to be in the form of a level pack bundled with the ICS update. The update was delayed so the content is available in the Google Play download. On the Note, "Danger Zone" is available for free. Not sure what the deal is on other devices; it may require an in-app purchase or simply be locked for the time being.
Yeah its on Amazon as well. Can't wait to play it looks different which is good. Old angry birds got old

anyone else notice how grainy and ****ty it looks on our notes? every button is super small and all the main load pictures and animations are in small little blocks ment for much smaller phones.
Agreed. What happened to it being meant for our phone? Once again, great marketing, crap implementation.
I'm beginning to think some people got some jacked up screens cause this game looks damn good on my note...besides the small buttons i dont see anything graphically that would make me think that..
Here are 2 quick vids from YouTube on each device. The icons and text are very small on the note. I've only tried it on my Note for a few mins. I was gonna test it on the iPad but didn't feel like really paying for it twice. I guess I will to compare. Curious to see how big text and icons will be on the new iPads high resolution.

Yea, I saw that. I'd rather keep as many purchases in one "app store" as possible though. Who knows how long the Amazon experiment will last, not to mention after a while it gets hard to remember where you bought something from.
Example is Bejewelled 2. I know I bought it - but neither Amazon nor Play show me a download option - both want $2.99 for it.

I don't notice any graininess (and I suffer from the dreaded black crush or whatever). But the loading screens and animations do appear in windows 1/3 the size of my screen. But that's expected because my screen is awesomener than everyone else.

Anyone know if the one that Amazon offers includes the Note specific content? Or is that waiting on the premium suite upgrade that Samsung has touted?

Hey guys,
I bought my little sister this tablet for Christmas and want to find some games for her.
Any suggestions for games I should download or but for her? I want to set her up with a good amount of fun games and apps but don't really know any thing that kids would like.
Any parents here who can give me some suggestions? She's eight and pretty smart. Likes all the normal games. I also would like to find a video app for kid shows, Disney shows especially.
Thanks any help,
Alex

get the amazon appstore
it has 1 pay app for free everyday
usually it's a kids game
Hey, for the games, I would recommend Angry Birds, Bag Piggies, Cut the Rope, Temple Run, Agent Dash, Where's My Water?, World of Goo, Fruit Ninja, etc.
For kids shows, get netflix, its only $7 a month, it has a kids only section so she can watch cartoons and kids shows, and you can also use it yourself to watch Tv Series and Movies.
Hope I helped, if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
ReduxTV has a Disney Channel, free in the play store. Game wise, check out kid mode. It has some flash games for kids to play and books. My 4 year old uses it, so I'm sure his setup would be different than hers. Also Where's My Perry.
My daughter is 9, and I bought her a Nexus 7, so pretty much the same thing?
I preloaded it with the following:
Art:
Zebra Paint, Doodle Joy, Paint Easy, My Paints
Games: Angry Gran Run, Angry Gran 2, Beach Buggy Blast, Cut The Rope, Extreme Skater, Flip Riders, Fruit Ninja THD, Granny Smith, iStunt2, Jelly Defense, Jet Set Radio, Jetpack Joyride, Kinectimals, Land-a Panda, Let's Golf 3, Littlest Pet Shop, Magic Piano, MX Moto, PMonsters, Puffle Launch, Rayman Jungle, Replica Island, Riptide GP, Rocka Bowling, Skater Boy, Sleepwalker's Journey, Slice It, Sprinkle, SummitX, Teeter, Temple Run, Trial X, Where's my Water, World of Goo, and Zen Pinball THD.

+1 on the free app of the day on Amazon.
You get lucky every now and then. I've got quite a few good apps over the past year and a half. :good:
ThumbKeyboard was one of my scores. Don't use it on the tab but love it on the phone.
-1 on the Amazon app store.
Correct me if I'm wrong (haven't used it in over a year) but the free apps will only work as long as you have the Amazon app store installed (and tracking your usage). Removing the app store kills the apps.
Is that still the case?

Certain apps do not need the Amazon app to be running. Thumb Keyboard is one of those apps thankfully. Once it is installed and activated, it works perfectly when Amazon is "FROZEN" with Titanium.
For the ones that do need Amazon running in the background, I've got a work around. I've got the paid version of Titanium Backup. It has a "FREEZE" option that lets you do just that to an app. When I need to use the Amazon app or one of the apps I've gotten from the site, I just got into Titanium and "DEFROST" the Amazon app. When I'm done shopping or playing one of the games, I just freeze the app again. Really simple.
Data gathering is one of those things that is really hard to get around these days. Google and Facebook are the worst IMO.
Android Tuner has freeze/defrost options as well. (used to be System Tuner) Must have app for all Android devices. That and ROM Toolbox Pro. In my opinion anyways.

Ive been looking around also. I enjoy art and bought Sketchbook mobile. There is a free version with some features cut but still worth a download. If you're into art it pretty much a slim Photoshop in your pocket. I've never used a wacom so this is as close as ive been but the one dollar app was worth the $300 phone haha.
I guess a lot of it comes down to what you want to do, but I rely heavily on productivity tools like Astrid Tasks and Note Everything Pro. I use gReader for RSS, USA Today, and recently discovered Flipboard for news. Sign for speed dialing, Wave Launcher for quick access to certain apps at any time, Tasker, and Tapatalk. As far as S-Pen apps, Paper Artist that comes with it is fun, and PicSay Pro is that much easier to use now that I have the S-Pen.
