Live tiles are no longer alive - Nokia Lumia 920

Ran into a recent problem. Not sure if it was related to the recent install of Skype or not..
But within the last 2 days all my live tiles stopped updating. Even the battery info app no longer shows correct info on the lockscreen and has to be refreshed manually along with a handful of other apps. The apps that stopped updating are:
- Fuse
- Amazing Weather
- LinkedIn (counter notifications)
- WPCentral
- My Stocks
I've tried soft resets, re-pinning apps, disabling/enabling live tile in app settings, turning on/off background tasks and re-installing the app as well.
So far no luck. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue but I'm looking for any suggestions. I'd prefer to NOT do a hard reset.

Have you disabled background processing for those apps?

I have. No changes. Noticed this morning a couple seem to be working but not all. Is there some kind of service on MS' end that can disrupt live tiles from working temporarily?

I noticed that my weather channel app has stopped updating the tile unless I go into the app. Then when I back out, it updates the live tile. This EXACT same thing happened on my Focus...and is the EXACT reason my home screen consisted of all non-live tiles. Because none of them worked.
J.

Did you wind the spring up with the special key?
I guess you blocked them from running in the background, if you do then they can't update in the background.

it sounds stupid, but delete the web browser history & cookies, then do a 3 button soft reset and it'll magically start working.
Done it a few times now, read about it on the WPForum.

Perhaps the "Battery Saver" mode could affect this? I know it shouldn't but....
As a side note I don't think Windows has that 'Special' key, But it does have a latch.

Battery Saver mode on/off. No affect on the life of the tiles. (I am sticking with just the Weather Channel app for testing)

This was one reason I got rid of the Lumia 900. I think this is a windows phone issue, not a Lumia hardware issue.

Not a deal breaker for me at this point. I'm liking too many other things about the phone and the WP8 interface. I am going to pursue this further and see what I can discover about this particular issue. I will of course post and significant info.
Lumia 900...WP7 or WP8?

For me this issue is with my Nokia phone as I switched from a HTC 8X to a lumia 920 and somethe live tiles that worked for 8X don't work for the Lumia 920.
3 App examples currently on my 920.
Hot7Deals - Live tile works (sometimes it doesn't but if I got in and back out of the app it seems to fix it).
Facebook - Same as Hot7Deals app.
WeatherFlow - Live tile does not work at all but it worked fine on the HTC 8X

I bought my girlfriend the 8X, as the Lumia was too large for her hands, and I noticed this morning that some of her live tiles were doing the same thing. I'm still a novice with this OS so figuring this out is slow. But...I WILL PREVAIL!!!!
or not.

Thought I would post here rather than a new thread. Having exactly the same problems, currently I have the following live tiles:
Photos, Facebook, BBC News, ITN news, gMaps Pro, Flixter, WPC, World of Red Bull, Amazing Weather, \XE currency, Wikipedia.. as far as I am aware only photos update...
I checked the 'background tasks' and all are allowed. WPC is the only one with any decent debug info, which says 'Network Error'. I have turned off data recently (but wireless is permanently on), however some of these tiles have not updated since I first turned on the phone (and I only turned off data last week)...
Any ideas?

I did a three button reset and WPC & Amazing Weather started updating.. Wikipedia says the agent is working, but the tile hasn't updated...

I have this problem for my original Lumia 920 and its replacement. When I was using the original one, I thought the apps were no good so their Live Tiles didn't work. The replacement was working perfectly and out of a sudden the Live Tiles and LockScreen Photos stop updating. I am not able to pin point whether other app updates affected this. I tried everything that people suggested (unpin/pin, block/unblock background task, power off/on, soft reset, uninstall/install affected apps) except Hard Reset, still no good.
This Dead Tiles problem is popping up in many different forums now.

IS your internet account limited or unlimited. There is a possibility you have reached your data limit and they have cut you off till your next billing cycle.
If that is not it then just uninstall everything you have installed or do a factory wipe. either way. The install one app a week and see which is causing your tiles to stop. Personally unless necessary I turn the live tiles feature off as it consumes. bandwidth, and battery.

I have unlimited data from AT&T, so I assume this is not the problem. Tried uninstall/reinstall the affected apps one at a time, no good. Hard Reset is something I really don't want to do unless this can permanently correct the Dead Tiles problem. Because when I return my 1st 920, I did a Hard Reset to wipe out all my data and info. The "wheel" just kept turning until the battery went dead.
Windows Phone without Live Tiles loses the attractiveness of Windows Phone OS.

I have a Nokia 920 and the same thing is happening. It 1st started 2 months ago and I tried all of the above. Mysteriously , They began working.
3 weeks ago the live Tiles stopped updating again . Today , June 18 ,2013 the tiles are still stagnant. I BELIEVEI IT'S A MICROSOFT ISSUE .With so many other phones out there , it is upsetting 'but I too enjoy the other features of my Nokia 920 WP8 too much to take it back . I will be paying attention to this post.
BTW I use HD Amazing Weather Several different Battery Apps. Chromos Calendar, Etc. Been with WP since 2000 , and I'm studying for my Software Engineering Degree. I stated this to inform my fellow readers that I am familiar with what a good working phone should be

The live tiles have a 12 day time-out (according to my data usage app), if you have not run the actual application in 12 days it will stop updating.
This happens frequently with applications where I only view the live tiles or lockscreen and rarely if ever open the application (e.g. weather apps, usage apps, etc.)... if you notice one of your live tiles isn't updating just open the app and close it again (perhaps hitting refresh while it is open) and the live tiles should start working again.
I have also noticed that certain applications such as Skype don't always automatically login after boot / reboot and I have to run the app to get them to sign in after startup.

Style over substance?

So, I’ve had the device for over a week now. I bought the phone as a spare one as I’m traveling abroad a lot and was tempted by navigation (Nokia Drive) and Zune subscription. The phone seemed to be a great option to put a local sim in.
But:
1. No way to change mms settings for local sim
2. Nokia Drive isn’t offline navigation as promised. It still needs the internet to calculate or recalculate the route.
3. Zune is impossible to use as there’s this annoying clicking noise while skipping the track
4. The ringtone and vibration is so soft that I keep missing a lot of phone calls
5. Facebook app for wp7 is a mess when it comes to messages section which I often use. Some messages come as text (baked in integration) some come via Facebook app and some don’t come at all (despite being notified by Facebook app). App developer advises to use web version to access the messages.
6.No WiFi priority (even if you’re in WiFi range and the phone is in standby it still uses 3G, rather than WiFi to get push notifications and sync with your email, calendar, etc)
Don’t get me wrong. The build quality and the screen is absolutely fantastic, but performing day to day tasks is a struggle! Oh, I don’t have the battery problem. Battery life’s been really great for me.
What do you think guys?
WiFi priority would make a big difference I reckon.
I've taken to switching 3g off when I'm either in the office or at home on a wifi network and it has noticeably prolonged battery life.
Nokia do need to have a look at releasing some software fixes sharpish. I read somewhere else that the two updates they are promising in the next month were on the cards before the phone went on sale which smack of a rushed release date to me.
Nokia maps does work offline at least mine does Yu have to download the maps for the country tough it won't just have maps for the world built in as that would take gigs of space

Hey buddy..
nice info buttttttttt
1) Navigation is offline if you have downloaded the maps and have gps on ... i tested it this morning with network off.....and it worked fine .
2) vibration has been mentionwd a few times and nokia are improving the strenth in the next update in a few days or so now so thats cool as i agree its to soft .
3) wifi priority is also being fixed in the next update along with xbox sync or straem to xbox thing its basically an app whoch you can link to your xbox and play music wirelessly through your tv or view pics on you phone through your tv etc ..
4) facebook are making a new app for windows 7 which will make it more like the iphone facebook app so that should be ready v v v soon .... well actually knowing fb a yrs time haha
5) zune is bollox i agree and hopefully we wont have to use it soon as i can see this phone being hacked v v soon to use mass storage
have a great day buddy and excuse my spelling lol i cant spell v well hahah
I don't get the Zune hate it is by a long long way the best media manager I have used though if i had a clock that would annoy me but I think thats something to do with your setup as mine dos not. Only thing I found is its a bit slow to start and its remote control is a use is a bit iffy. As for what its sposed to be used for is managing music a challange anyone to five a better easier smoother bit of software. Esp when ot come to album art and fixing track names etc

No. Nokia Drive doesn't work offline. Check here http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/support/faq/?action=singleFAQ&caseid=FA136278_en_US
Zune is lovely if not this annoying clicking sound while changing track.
The problem is, the device is not really usable at the moment. I know, there will be updates, but why to rusj it to the market.
I want something that works out of the box rather than wait for updates.
Don't get me wrong. I love the device but at the moment it doesn't do what was supposed to do.
Seems perfectly usable to me.
On a side note all smartphones have issues on release however I don't see one which makes this phone unusable.
2. Nokia drive has offline maps.
3. No clicking sound on Zune for me.
4. Phone volume could be higher so I turn up the volume more than normal but isn't a deal breaker.

If this is true then the battery life will be pretty sweet I reckon. My phone has been on for 5 hours today so far with 3G off and has used 14% with lots of texts, couple of phone calls and an app install (bandwidth tester to check that I was using the wifi connection and not 2G). That's normal use for me and yesterday, I had used 25% by this time, so much improved.
Well how odd re offline maps I just tryed it again and dissable network and works fine ??? Unless it allows for the maps even though network is turned off ,?
You're trying to say that white is black! It doesn't work offline. You've got your offline maps, but if you want to search for POI or find a route it needs the internet connection.

[Q] Keep status bar (battery & Signal strength) on all the time

I notice the bar at the top that shows battery life and signal strength always disappears. Any way to have that stay on permanently?
I don't think so, but if you want to see the notification bar that contains the battery life and singla strength whenever, just swipe down from the top.

This is from something that I wrote on WP Central a few days ago:
The philosophy of Windows Phone is pretty much "stop worrying and let the system take care of things." That's why status bar icons disappear from view except when they have something exceptional to tell you (no signal, low battery, etc). That's why there's no task manager (because tasks don't need to be managed). That's why there's no quick-access WiFi on/off switch (just leave it on and let the system manage things).
It takes a while to get used to this way of not actively having to do things to make the phone work. That "while" is probably longer for the former Android users because they are typically used to doing a lot more and thus have to let go of a lot more administrative duties than iPhone do. (As a former Windows Mobile user, it was hard on me, too. But I have accepted not pulling my battery frequently and not flashing new ROMs every few weeks to get new features.)
The main thing I wanted was the clock. Its such a pain in the butt when I am surfing the web or doing something in an app and I want to know the time I have to exit the browser or app to see the time and then re-start the browser or app again. Hopefully in the future they can at least have the option of the clock being there all the time or someone comes up with a workaround.
Partial work-around

Developers get the choice of whether to show the status bar or not. Panorama-style apps (like the Games and Pictures/Photos hubs) typically turn it off while Pivot-style apps (like Email or Settings) leave it on. Panoramas are typically graphically-rich and developers kept the bar hidden to not interfere with their layouts. Again, it is the developer's choice. I just noticed that the Office hub for WP8 does show the bar, so maybe the time will turn.
IE likely hides it so that more of the screen can be used for the web page being viewed. (Having the page scroll behind the text and icons on the status bar would be weird.) That said, there's an easy way in IE to temporarily show the status bar. Tap the "..." at the bottom to bring up the menu. Better yet, start to drag it upward a bit and then down -- this will show the status bar, but not pop up the whole bottom menu.
Thanks for the IE tip...works very well!
I travel a lot and would be nice if we can see status bar when not to make a phone call or checking time
Personally, I like not having it on the screen all the time. I prefer more viewing space than seeing other stuff clutter up the edges. Just my personal preference.

I am not sure what your lock settings are - but if you have pin/password that is enabled a few minutes after the screen is turned off (can be adjusted from Settings menu) then you can just turn off the screen and turn it back on. You'll see the start screen with time information and a swipe will bring you back to your app you were browsing.
Not an ideal situation but a workaround. I personally never had to do this FWIW.
My battery status and time are permanently displayed due to a bug and it's killing me.
Came after the 1308 update and won't go.
I am also on 1308 and this didn't happen. R u sure it is OS instead of some app related?

Totally agree. WP8 does a great job of handling all the little tasks that seem to take up so much time on other phone OS.
I never worry about battery life and all that stupid stuff. I can get nearly 2 days on a single charge with Wi-Fi etc. constantly on.
Any battery drain issues are usually down to 'rogue' or badly written apps hogging all the resources. Never had a problem with my Lumia 920. Superb phone!!!

Obviously, this was written over a year ago, but I just happened to stumble upon this thread as I was looking for a way to pin the status bar icons.
In general, I agree with the statement about the Windows Phone philosophy. As someone who's long admired but only recently started using a WP8 device (Lumia 925), here's one area where the reality deviates from the philosophy in a very frustrating way: neither iOS nor Android require a user to determine which background tasks stay running and which ones needs to be shut down.
I get aggravated every time I see the "too many background tasks running" message, reminding me that I can only have so many running. Then I have to go to the Background Tasks menu item from setting and figure out which ones I want blocked, and then decide if I always want them blocked or if they should be revived the next time the app is started. I've seen this happen on the Lumia 925 (running GDR3), as well as on the much newer Lumia 1520 (GDR3, Lumia Black) that I owned for a couple weeks.
As a user, I don't want to have to remember / decide that kind of crud. I expect the OS to handle that stuff for me, so I'm surprised that in the year 2013, on an OS that is not in its first iteration, we have an issue like this. Currently, iOS and Android both handle this seamlessly, by suspending or freezing the application, or closing it as necessary. And yet, when the user goes back to the list of "open" apps, they can quickly switch back to the desired app. Frozen ones pick up where left off, and closed ones relaunch.
Let me be clear - I'm not being critical of manicotti here, just stating that we've yet got a long way to go.
While we're on this matter, I have searched but not found a satisfactory solution, and am tired of always remembering to exit apps by "back"ing my way out of them. Is there a better alternative or a solution thread that someone can point me to?
Thanks,
AJ
It's funny that you quoted that piece today. My original words there were a copy of something that I had written on WPCentral back in 2012. I just wrote something else on WPCentral that addresses one of the points that you raised. The full thing is at http://forums.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-8/255956-3.htm#post2276267, but the key part is that:
One of my big complaints with it is the term "background tasks" itself (in the Settings app) to refer to tasks that are scheduled to run every once in a while. The general public already has a different understanding of that term (i.e., tasks that are in memory and doing things while not currently displaying on screen). Given that the term already has a meaning, Microsoft should not have tried to redefine it. They recognized this from the developer's perspective and called the things "periodic tasks," which is what they are (started periodically and then shut down -- all independent of the main app that contains such "applets").I went on to complain about how this misuse of terms confuses users, that developers don't generally go out of their way to compensate for Microsoft's screw-up, and then propose a better UI for the Background Tasks page that conveys to users what they need to know about which tasks are running occasionally, which are not, and why.

I generally hold down the "back" button until the window shrinks down and I can click the X in the upper right corner to close the apps.
Seems to work for most apps for me.

Moto 360 sport AW2.0 comments

just thought that we could use a thread for the sport users and comments on the AW2 update, considering how poorly viewed the Moto 360 v2 update was, and how many sport users would definitely profit from viewpoints of those who have the update.
I updated yesterday, and to be honest I was pretty excited. First things first, how the update went; while many people had difficulties updating, I had no such problem with mine. I enabled the always on while charging, got to the update screen, put it on the charger, and let it go( all done through the slow but not too slow Bluetooth connection). It downloaded, installed, and rebooted (which took longer than I anticipated). The setup process was quick and easy for me, and once I got setup I was off. The first thing I did was slide left for my apps, only to remember that this function is reserved for the watch faces now. I actually enjoy this feature, as it took ages to change a face on AW1.5( I can now put my favorite faces in a line, instead of setting the top three faces over and over until they were definitely in my recents). Next, I opened my app menu. This is a great feature now. The ability to put the apps I actually use at the top is very nice. Speaking of apps, let me touch on those. The play store CAN eat up some battery, so you might want to watch it(zing). It wasn't until I got AW2 that I realized that most wear apps are designed now with 2.0 in mind. The usability is increased, there are more options, and the apps are just..... Better. There's not an easy way to explain it without experiencing it.
Overall, I've been very pleased with this update. It seems more stable than AW1.5, not to mention more modern. I do have to say that the battery is going to die faster, but only if you're using it extensively. My watch battery currently is in a better standard than my phone's (but with a LG K10 what can you do?). Today, with activities including looking at my agenda, texting people back with the keyboard (which is so accurate I might DIE), looking through apps on the play store, and checking notifications, my battery is at 30%, and that's with 13 hours. Notifications, when set to high, work completely fine for me and I enjoy the new look greatly. all of the problems faced by the gen2 users I cannot find a existence of. I would recommend this update, as it seems that Motorola took the time they spent denying us our update and used it to fix the problems the gen 2 users had.
I agree - I love this update! With AW 2 the sport feels like a new watch. Sure, accessing apps is different than before ( no more swipe left) but that's fine - easy too adjust.
Battery life is pretty much the same as before for me and love the new look for the app drawer and notifications.
*Edited for corrections
Just got the update, I'll install it later and report back, I'm excited.
Update: okay I installed it a couple days ago and so far it's pretty smooth, better than before. Battery life is hard to tell yet but so far it's good, I'll update on that later. The OS has a ton of new features that were previously only on phones such as disabling apps and turning off Bluetooth which is cool. Typing on the tiny keyboard and with drawing is actually fairly easy. So far I'm loving the update, not a bad thing to say yet besides getting used to the new UI and it's various changes like opening the apps list with the button and scrolling fast up will scroll through the top notification (scrolling has more inertia basically). Oh, and the security patch is April 1, 2017.
Good post @Nobodyslight . I'm enjoying it too although I'm not using it quite as much as you are. I'll need to explore some more but right now I'm doing the Android O thing. One question is on notifications set to high. I haven't done it but I do like that once you view an on screen noti then it doesn't appear again unless you swipe up. You don't even have to swipe it away like before. With it set to high vs normal does that feature go away? In other words will the notification say on top of the face until you dismiss it?

It does stay, but you can swipe down to go back to the watch face. But I think under the app settings in settings you can change which apps can get that priority; so if you wanted only some apps to show up like that, you could arrange it that way

Thanks, but not seeing individual permissions. Not a big deal because I really don't want any app noti to stay on top. Good to know that is what high priority does. I'll stay away.
As for battery, I just hade a gps running (Strava) for the past almost 4 hours and I still have 50% left. I'll give it a quick charge now but that's really not too bad.
Mine was stuck on the 'continue setup on your phone' screen and I stupidly de-registered it with my phone. I can't even hard reset cause if I go onto recovery mode I can't swipe up or down. So it's pretty much dead any ideas?
Continuing here from where I reported in on the other thread; Went to bed with 100% battery and started sleep tracking from the watch on Sleep with Android. Put the watch into Theater mode and got a solid 6 hours sleep. Woke up to 50% battery. On Wear 1.5 I was waking up to 73~75%. Some watch owners that use Sleep are reporting that heart rate monitoring during sleep tracking was broken after upgrading to 2.0, while mine was so much more accurate than the last 3 months.
Overall, now that I've got vibration with my notifications, I've got hope for 2.0, battery issues aside. Overall the watch is much more responsive. The animations are smooth. The keyboard, I'm honestly shocked it works this well. Speech to text, 2.0 stomps the old 1.5.
I'm liking it ? We waited for a more polished version I think. I like my watch again.

How do you get heart rate monitoring during sleep? What app/settings do you use? Thanks

Mine is good too. I've just added Swirl Launcher to my custom WhatchMaker face so I don't have to press button for apps.

You can try to factory reset without enter recovery mode:
1) from the watch Settings --> System --> Unpair and reset
or
2) from the phone, using Android Wear and selecting "unpair the watch"

Can't enter settings during the initial setup and I disconnected the watch but the watch stays hanging on the setup screen. I tried entering receiver to hard reset it but when I swipe up or down on the screen I can't change the option. I can only reboot
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to shuffle my running playlist since upgrading to AW2.0.
Has anyone figured out how to make this work yet?
But the battery life is not as AW 1.5 BTW which watchfaces do you use for complications support?
Nobodyslight said:
just thought that we could use a thread for the sport users and comments on the AW2 update, considering how poorly viewed the Moto 360 v2 update was, and how many sport users would definitely profit from viewpoints of those who have the update.

Hello everyone!
I have the next issue:
Google feed is not working AT ALL in the moto 360 sport.
I was a beta tester of google app, but leave the beta to test is that make the trick, but again a no-go.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The Google fees isn't as it is in the app. The only things that'll pop up in there is weather, and some location tidbits(assuming you have location on on your phone and watch, and you allow Google to give you location based cards)
I just purchased 2 of the 360 sport and first thing I did was upgrade them to 2.0. I originally had a Gear 2 Neo that was hacked to run android 1.5 on it. My wife had the Gear fit 2. So that is what I compare my experience to.
Here are my impressions so far:
Battery life seems pretty bad. I barely get a full day out of it. My Neo would easily go 2 days and my wife's fit 2 would go 3 - 4.
The screen doesn't respond as I would expect. It seems to not know exactly which way I want to swipe all the time.
Step counter is incredibly inaccurate. both watches consistently seem to only catch 50% of the steps. My wife is sending hers back for this reason.
Even though I have enabled "OK Google" in the settings, it never responds. Only way I can get speech recognition to work is hold down the menu button.
I have had mine randomly reboot twice. My Gear 2 Neo would do this occasionally but it was somewhat expected being hacked to run wear.
Not sure if I should send mine back and purchase a Gear s2. I did some Googling and these issues seem to be very common. Anyone have experience with the Gear S2 that can give me a comparison? Really like the 2.0 interface and the Moto360 is a nice watch, if these bugs were worked out.

just bought a 2nd hand moto 360 sport and just in time for AW 2.0 to arrive. i had previously used a 1st gen moto 360 with AW1.5, but it has since died. gotta say, the AW 2.0 is looking solid, i enjoyed it very much, its more fluid, more easy to navigate.. but i think im missing something. i can't find the setting to vibrate or notify when my phone or watch is out of range of each other

Are there any deal breakers in this gorgeous device?

I was waiting to buy the upcoming iPhone (Blasphemy!) but I just love how unique Find X is. It is going to be up for pre-order next week and I need some advice from you users.
- How durable is that 'mechanism'?
- Are you guys able to replace the stock launcher with something like Nova or Ruthless launcher with google now feed?
- Does the surface of the retracting mechanism get covered with dust over time?
- Have any other serious complaints about the phone in general?
Thanks in advance. Will really appreciate your input. Cheers!

Yeah, it's on some sort of power trip (literally, in both senses of the phrase). That said, if you read through the thread i created, following a firmware upgrade yesterday and after a "settling period" things have been almost faultless today. My phone has been faultless and even thrown in a couple of reboots to challenge it and still been OK. My last problem of Gmail being forced to drop to 15 minute syncs instead of Push also seems to have resolved itself.
Now, i'm not sure if this is some sort of OS learning which apps I use, the firmware or just plain luck (or a combo) but, i'm now very happy with the device.
If you want your own launcher, it is entirely possible, as is removing the bloat (i'm running Nova) and there is no need to register with Oppo either. The link to achieve that is also in the thread I linked to.
I have no idea about battery life as when I'm at work it sits in a dock and then when i'm at home, it's also mostly in a dock so, battery life isn't really a concern but, i guess I'll find out this weekend!

1: The mechanism feels very durable, and 95% of the time the camera pops up fast. I have encountered 5% of time when the camera would pop up but the camera app takes an additional second or two to load.
2: nope. Unable to use nova launcher unless you into adb and do all types of advanced phone geek thing or something.
3: there's noticeable dust on my camera module but doesn't seem to be a big deal.
The big issue with this phone you should take note is, like many Chinese roms, push notifications are delayed or broken if the app has been closed or in background too long. There is a work around for this -- you have to go to settings and turn battery optimization off AND lock the app in the app overview window. This is of course, not ideal and annoying as hell. Currently I only have crucial "must get notifications on time" apps locked, such as whatsapp, wechat and Gmail. So for the most part I can use the phone fine. But I do miss all other notifications such as airbnb messages, Facebook messages, LinkedIn messages, until I open those apps again. I could lock all of them down too, but I don't want to have like seven apps running in background at all times.
This is a problem with many Chinese version of Chinese phones. I don't know why they think battery optimization so aggressive it kills notifications is a good thing.

1) Stock Android provides for incoming notifications to be seamless (automatic by default, individual 3rd party app settings may be different by default, but, can be easily toggled on). Oppo has severe restrictions on this, limiting to 5 user installed apps to start automatically on boot & 5 apps total to be locked in recent memory.
So, a high horsepower phone is basically muzzled, if you can deal with the angst of wondering if you're going to get timely notifications...... Perhaps if you use the stock email & messaging apps, these will likely work, but, I would steer clear of those....
2) No NFC, so, no tap to pay apps will work.
3) No VoLTE, no VoWI-FI
4) No status bar notification icons, no LED notification indicator.
5) If you use T-Mobile Digits & it isn't a top 5 protected app/one of your precious 5 to auto start on boot, it will log you out of the app on reboot & it will not work until you set it up again, resulting in missed messages & phone calls.
6) 3rd party clock apps: Again, if it's not a protected top 5 app, it will not keep proper time, resulting in missed alarms..... The stock clock works, but, it is a bare bones app at best, no snooze adjustment, locked into 5 minutes, SERIOUSLY?
7) Ad Blockers will work, but, intermittently, again, the top 5 protected app thing & even then, Oppo will kill it off at some point, resulting in having to restart the blocking.
8) If you choose to use a 3rd party launcher, you again lose some functionality. I use Chrome & frequently place shortcuts on my desktop from it.
NOT ON THIS PHONE, another swing & a miss....
9) Bluetooth devices:
Generally they work fine, but,if the device has a companion app, prepare for it (the app) to not work properly.
Example(s):
I have a pair of Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds,pair-up & work fine, but, the companion app will not work,as it requires a plug-in app to fuel it. These various "plug-in" apps are typical & the companion apps work fine elsewhere, but, not on this phone.
Reason being, the "plug-in" app does not have a user interface,so,you cannot make the app a top 5 protected app to gain functionality,it simply won't work at all.
Ditto for smartwatches such as the Samsung line-up, for the same reason,no notifications, worked one day for me & broken the next, before & after the most recent Oppo update. That results in the Samsung smartwatch getting a lobotomy, only able to keep time & nothing more.
10) Package tracking apps:
Again, the top 5 protected thing,no timely updates & even then, mine simply did not refresh automatically, had to be done manually.
I could go on, but, in a nutshell, you're forced to make sacrifices as soon as you start using the phone. If this was a entry level/low storage/low RAM device, that's one thing.
But, it's not, basically a Lamborghini running on two cylinders, that's not what I paid for & why I sold mine 5 days after the most frustrating phone experience I've ever seen....

As a Wear OS user (Polar M600) i can absolutely CONFIRM what Koliosis is saying and this is not just limited to Samsung Watches.
That said, my watch has been fine now for 2 days and, even after a reboot, the same apps are still auto-run and remain locked. I actually like this solution now BUT, why the FRACK have they restricted it to only 5 apps!?
Anyway, as an example, my locked and running fine apps are:
Wear OS
The Crypto App (so it's widget runs OK - take note, to run a widget, the PARENT app needs to be locked sometimes)
WhatsApp
Gmail
Google Calendar (again, for it's widget)
Now, for me, this is perfectly OK and I have no need to even want to lock other apps (like Facebook) as i'm not interested however, you need to assess YOUR needs which may be more apps.
edit: Oh, oddly, i've got the Sony Experia clock widget installed and that runs perfectly even without being locked and I've no idea why!
Also, I've got the red and it looks stunning. Easily the best looking phone i've ever owned. You'll be happy with the physical design.

Oppo Reno 2 Z glitches?

Have a few things I have experienced that has bugged me so far in me 1 week of ownership.
Never use auto brightness but somehow out of the blue gets stuck on full brightness 2 times now.
Moving slider won't have an effect.
Reset phone fixes this..annoying as I will exit an application and BAM full 1000 nits
Second I have 3 email accounts including Gmail and they don't update unless I head into the emails and refresh...a few emails get through and I get notifications but most I notice when I refresh...annoying.
I had the first issue under Color Os6 with my Reno 2. Looks like Color Os7 solved it.
It felt to me like the phone "remember" the previous darkness on an application and put the same on when you go back to it.
For Gmail, same issue too. Lots of people are bored at it... Look at any other mail APK ?
Yes these issues are on ColorOS 6.1.
Might have to VPN my update as Australia still hasn't received the update to 7.
As an Oppo Reno 2 owner didn't have all these problems as the update came only one day after buying the phone. All I can say is that specially Gmail was the first app I uninstall and went to outlook app and notifications are right in time. Forget Gmail and try another email app that it will work better for sure.

Same. They're saying June now. Like the phone, not too impressed with the updates.
I found Bluetooth to be buggy at times. Phone connects for calls but media doesn't auto connect.
Jus managed to grab colorOS7 no brightness errors so far...
