[Q] I'm doing it wrong... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

My S2 just went out of warranty so I decided I'd start messing around with rooting it. After all, I've modded my xbox360, xbox, and every phone prior to it that I've ever owned (nonsmart). So anyway, I visited here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18859438&postcount=199
and read through everything, downloaded it and ran it. everything was successful:
http://i.imgur.com/Ljyy1.jpg
and then when I unplugged my phone to check it out I get this error constantly popping up:
"The application Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexcpectedly. Please try again."
and I can't get anywhere past the stupid "click the android to start" screen. No home screen, no contacts, no nothing. That's when I realized....I downloaded and ran the wrong effing one! I accidentally used the link that flashes: zImage, factoryfs.img with root, and modem.bin, instead of the one that flashes: zImage, factoryfs.img, and modem.bin
What can I do to get myself out of this mess? Can I just rerun the correct one? I'm too scared to mess around with anything now for fear of making it worse. I definitely need to be more careful next time. Thanks for any help.

Try redownloading and reinstalling. Maybe a bad download.

Anyone with a history of modding should know that wiping solves almost all unintentional buggy software issues.

It's funny you guys are giving me such a hard time about this. I actually tried getting into recovery mode after posting this, but was using the wrong button combo the entire time thanks to technocredo dot com (apparently I can't post urls), and figured I was screwed.
Anyway, I found the correct button combination and all is now well, I'm back to square one minus any pictures I didnt back up, no biggie.

Didn't realize pointing out the fact that you said you had a lot of experience doing this and you didn't realize maybe wiping data would fix it a "hard time". Don't worry man this is only the interwebs. Gotta have a thick skin.

help!!!

I just got my replacement phone and I went to root and CXM and I am stuck in Android system recovery
Samsung Recovery Utils
-BML -
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data?factory reset
wipe cache partition
It won't let me do anything from here. I tried doing an Odin reset but nothing happened, I keep going back to this screen.
Help please.
Thanks,
OK I got it back not sure how. I tapped the home button and it restarted. All my apps are there and seem to be working but my sd card is completely empty now.
What should be on there?
never mind. I asked the phone to check for updates it did. Updated and now the sd card has its files again. Interesting the way it recovered itself. I think I'll wait till tomorrow to retry rooting.
Rumor is that the new fascinates are boot locked to stop routing and modding.

I can't agree with you more. We are drawed attention by your "help!!!", But when we come ito. You have solved the problem by yourself. You are very......
This is a development thread? epic.
Agreed that this is way too much being that it's in the Dev thread, but I suspect his confusion was about the need to hit the home button to do anything (though the rest of his posts leave me wondering if that is too much credit).
My Fascinate was boot locked.
Gasp. Bootlocking is the devils work. Why the hell would u make a device based on open sourced code if ur gonna lock it up? Just clearly state it voids the warranty and let us have our fun.

Well excuse me for not being an android wiz. I have been in recovery before but always used the power button to make changes not the home button. I guess this is where my confusion was. Excuse my ignorance.
Most people are giving you **** because you posted in the development section, which is the wrong place for this kind of thing. Glad you got everything sorted though.

[Q] Can't enable NFC

I just received 2 batteries for the I-777 that I bought on eBay. However, they do not have NFC. For the hell of it, I double checked and tried turning on NFC in the settings and it said "error occurred". So I'm like yeah okay, figures. So I pop in the original battery (NFC capable) I was using and tried turning it on, and it was still not working. I'm on ICScrewed 2.1 with Siyah's last up-to-date GB kernel. Re-flashing didn't work. Help?
Stuff I've tried:
Wiping/Re-flashing
Back to stock, re-rooting, reflashing (was sure this would have fixed it...)

Yes, I always wipe before flashing.

I've been on ICScrewed 2.1 for a while, and the NFC always worked. The problem barely started when I put in a non-NFC capable battery.
Have you tried flashing anything else to see if the issue remained on other roms?

Again, troll some more.
Labeling people as "trolls" won't get you help around here. Especially when they are the guys with most of the answers!
Keep searching, Google, xda forums, everywhere. Sometimes the answers are in obscure places. It's a pain in the ass, especially xda's search function, but it's worth the time. You may or may not find your solution but learn something helpful in the process. Right now I've screwed up supercharging my phone... Now im frantically looking for ways to fix without flashing. Butt im not going to ask for help until I know I have searched my ass off.

Keep kissing ass to your friends. Phalanx doesn't help. Look at his answer. Absolutely nothing to do with the OP. Instead, he's insulting me by saying I haven't searched, when I have. Not to mention, he does that in every thread I made. I'm pretty sure such behavior is trolling.
Anyway, like I said. I did search. All people have said is: pull battery out and put it back in, reflash (wiping of course too), and going back to complete stock and re-rooting and flashing. None of those have worked. See, you people assume I haven't searched, but I have...
Apparently, there was a flashable zip to fix this, but it was for a different phone when I was looking on Google.
All I can say is include everything you've tried in the OP. If you come across anything, make an update in the thread or an edit to the post, whichever is easier for you.
It took 2 people asking a question to get that you had tried two other possible fixes and they failed. Do you go to the doctor and tell him your head hurts but leave out the part where you damn near knocked yourself out working under the sink? No, you tell him everything you can think if that may have caused the issue in the first place.
No trolling, no judgment and for damn sure no kissing ass (see the thread where I pissed of Shoman). Just a normal guy trying to help ya out a bit.

[Q] Installed Kernel meant for SII GT-I9100G on my S2 I777

Not a Rom Manager Q~ A few days ago i rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 I777, everything was working fine and I downloaded all the suggested apps. Amongst them was Rom manager, within the app it was mentioned that there was an update for it, I then went ahead with the update which then resulted with my phone not turning on, it was partially bricked. I was still able to go into recovery mode, while there I tried wiping, installing a new rom; everything. Nothing seemed to work. I then searched for a way out of this, I once again placed it in recovery mode and followed a youtube tutorial for its recovery, using odin I place all three files in their proper places; the modem file, ext. The phone sprung back to life to my delight, but unfortunately the recovery pack was made for the Galaxy S II GT-I9100G not the sad AT&T version. So now the light up keys don't work. I have searched everywhere for a recovery pack meant for the S2 I777, but have not succeeded. I need to restore my original backup and with the kernel I am running Kies does not complete the restore.

The problem is, I STIll HAVE THE ANIMATED verizon boot logo thingy.
I do not know how to get rid of it, can somebody please explain it clearly, kind a step by step maybe?
Oh also i got superuser, downloaded lind2sd app, tried to delete some bloatware, it worked.
So what am i missing?
thank you! (please help!)
There's nothing wrong. You're still on a stock ROM so you still have the stock boot animation. You are unlocked and rooted though. To get rid of it just flash a custom ROM

Tried to update TWRP via goomanager, now the phone won't power on. Brick?

I was having trouble getting TWRP to recognize my SD Card so I downloaded an updated version from goomanager. Flashed in TWRP, rebooted and the phone never came back up. It seems as though its dead. Can't get it to go in to recovery or download or anything. Did I brick it?

At this point I am assuming I did not install the right one. I have never updated via goo before. When I used it to search for roms it on;y showed me roms for my phone, so I assumed it was only showing me recoveries for my phone as well.
I believe it was this one openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.2-t03g.zip
After searching the goomanager website, I do see the phone specific recoveries have the phone name in the file name. DANG

Not sure how you attempted to upgrade but if you choose "flash ROM" it will ask you if you want to search for a recovery. If you input yes it finds the proper file for your device.

I am admittedly a "stupid user" as many posts on these forums will show, but I think this is what happened to me as I have flashed many many roms, but when I tried to update to 2.5 TWRP I created a shiney door-stop.
I had updated before manually but thought, wow, goo manager looks more simple and dependable.
I could be wrong! No way to tell for sure. But I "feel" like this also happened to me.
I think it is the right thing to voice it as a concern.

Could i trim the quotes a lot more? Yea. And I will. Could you find something better to do with your time, than to go on a one man crusade and remake XDA in your likeness?
Next time, instead of sounding like a judgmental 12 year old girl, send a PM and make a "suggestion", listing the reasons its hetter for XDA, and ultimately, yourself. But it's not your role, its not your job, to ensure others are typing the way you like.
Hey buddy, relax. I was agreeing with you about getting jig and JTAG mixed up. Notice my patient response to your question.
Why are you getting so worked up? So why didn't you follow your own suggestion about PMs? Your rant sounds a little harsh. Who put you in charge of calling out people you don't agree with.
That thing about quotes is my signature line. How many people quote a huge post to only answer one line from the post? How often in a face-to-face conversation do you repeat everything a person said? Everyone would think you're on drugs. The reason the search function is usless is because of the needless quoting by lazy people.
If the signature bothers you, you probably need to follow the advice.

I was having trouble getting TWRP to recognize my SD Card so I downloaded an updated version from goomanager. Flashed in TWRP, rebooted and the phone never came back up. It seems as though its dead. Can't get it to go in to recovery or download or anything.

I almost did the same thing today! Used the Goo Manager app and it started downloading twrp 2.5, and I started thinking, isn't there a 2.6? Then I realized, even more importantly, that the file did not have i717 in the name, and I knew past versions had. I thought the app was going to automatically install and reboot (according to the teamw.in website), but thankfully my internet was slow and I was able to cancel the download about 30 seconds in. Scary stuff.
I would definitely NOT recommend trusting this app to download recovery. Do it the "old-fashioned" way.
