My God the amount of changes that Google made to Android 4.0.
If you guys have not had the chance to see what has been going on, check it out http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-now-official/ .
The total rehaul has a lot of to be excited about including the fact that the sdk is out and as I understand it, this will be released with it's source code for some sweet dev love.
GLEE!
We don't even have a working gingerbread , much less honeycomb and you are looking for ICS.

Actually, there are plenty of working GB and HC roms. What made you think otherwise?
My understanding is that if the developers had the source code necessary for hardware acceleration, we would eventually have a fully working ICS rom. I think Viewsonic doesn't care enough to have someone work with nvidia to get the source code.
Once google releases ICS source code, we should have a usable ICS rom, at least
Mods please move this to proper section...thought the hammer was in effect?

Camera and hardware acceleration are still not there yet.
Yes, please move this to the proper forum, I think its called "posts from people with rocks in their heads".
hahaha sorry, I could not resist.
I'd be careful not to get too excited...this is very dependent on the few developers we still have, wanting to stick around even longer to try to get this to work. They might decide to move onto a different tablet also...

Yeah, this topic kinda made me a sad panda...
No ones perfect. But come on. Have a little respect by not posting useless threads in the dev forums.
So I was thinking earlier today, according to a few people, we apparently have RIL working just not a kernel source to make AOKP/AOSP stable.
I also thought, well, we have plenty of people still running GB ROMs and people on GB firmware. Why don't people try to put together a CM7.2 ROM since we do have source for GB.
I'm pretty sure Android is all about choice and variety so I ask someone who is experienced in porting, development, etc. Why doesn't someone get in touch with Tekk, or whoever has RIL working and pop out a CM7 (.2?) port, it's still AOSP so it'll hold people over and hell, some people would probably prefer it, not to mention that I'm sure people would rather have a form of Cyanogenmod over nothing at all.
I have no clue how, nor the computer to ever begin trying it, so it's why I ask.
This would definitely be nice. Cm7.2 is amazing on my incredible. I would love to see it on the rezound! Maybe... Just maybe...
Gingerbread AOSP will be just as hard.

I thought we had everything we needed available?
If RIL is fixed for ICS AOSP ROMs supposedly, and we're waiting for kernel source to get it stable, couldn't we translate the RIL fixes down to a GB AOSP ROM, I thought also since we have GB kernel source, all loose ends would be tied up?
We would need someone to take time to make a RIL. I doubt they would. They said in the passed they didn't want to cause of ICS but if we can't progress in CM9 due to kernel source. Why not progress in CM7. Might be a step back but you would make a lot of people happy.

This is kinda my sentiment, if we can't progress any farther on CM9 until HTC/Verizon get the OTA out (which could come as early as next week or as late as 2 months from now, if the latest June-July report is accurate), why not do a CM7 side project, it would seem we have most of, if not all of what we need available.

"side project" Very well said
This would probably also bring us GB CM and MIUI.

Which to me and probably many others is better than possibly nothing and if nothing else, just gives us some more variety which is never bad.
There are a ****load of other fixes aside from RIL that were done for ICS that would have to be redone for GB. For example, things like EGL took a long time to fix for ICS.

Why is everybody asking for something instead of attempting to learn something and do it as their own "side-project"?
I got sick of waiting for AOSP, so I found one a ROM I liked and I asked the original dev if I could try to port it. He said go for it, and so I started working on it. Once I have a something worthy of going public, it might just pop up somewhere...
Anyways, the point is, why do I see everybody asking for things but nobody willing to try and do it themselves? Isn't the whole point of Android the ability to tinker with it and make it do whatever you want?
...but, if you're going to depend on someone else to do it for you, it just doesn't seem fair to ask the developers here to "hurry up" or go out of their way to develop something they aren't interested in using themselves..

I never came in here and asked people per say to do anything,
I did ask about the possibility of it happening and I said foremost that I'm not able to even try because I don't have a computer that's powerful enough to do that kind of work.

I understand you were asking about the possibility and not saying something like "Hurry the hell up and give me at least CM7!" and honestly my comment wasn't directed at you at all, or any other single person for that matter. It just seems like in general, we have a common theme of people asking for things like they are entitled, but having no interest in actually contributing to anything at all. I was attempting to point out that really any of us could learn to do these things, if we would just try to spend some time on it...

I would love to learn, however I lack the time requirement to learn it with a full time + job, a three year old, a preggers wife, and a house to get ready for the new demon spawn. Sucks because I'd probably be pretty good at it too. I have no expectations on devs and will continue to patiently wait for anything they release.

Looks like we might have a good chance at a good stable build of ubuntu.Since the nexus 7 shares almost all the main components with our prime.

Lilstevie has been working on a version but its very very secretive and i'm not sure he has much time to do it now.
sounds good. can't wait to have it :fingers-crossed:
that would be great to have Ubuntu running naively on the prime!!
I can't wait. Running with chroot and vnc is not the same and it gets sluggish

you are confusing secretive with lacking in time. Some things don't get shared, because otherwise everyone bugs me about it, and the little time I do have for things ends up being eaten up by those people. Other things don't get shared because they are simply tests that may or may not even pan out.

Naa i appreciate your busy matey, i know your at uni and doing other things its just whenever anyone asks about the Ubuntu project its usually met with silence.
I honestly think you should start your own thread about your project and update whenever you have the time etc ... i know there are some members that just want want want, but theres plenty that would support your work and be greatful that your just trying your best ... hey no one else can do it !
My comment wasnt ment to be a flame, i'm patiently waiting myself for anything you can come up with, its just sometimes i'd love to know how far your getting etc
tbh i've been desperate to get ubuntu on this thing since i bought it... now i've bought a new laptop, i barely use it anymore.

I didn't interpret what you said as a flame, I was just "going on record" so to speak The development cycle is rather unique due to the device specificities so I have been avoiding creating a new thread so I can keep focused on that. I will be creating a thread soon(tm) for a preview build though (no eta).

This shouldn't be too hard I hope. Considering the prime and n7 share almost everything. The rear cam/keyboard and microsd might be issues. But the kernel may just pickup the cam/microsd.

no, they are not similar devices, they share a cpu/gpu combo, that is pretty much the end of it.
One question it always bug me. When canonical first started to talk about their project some people mention it would be like an app you download out of the market. But if a new kernel is needed, that's not possible, right? The pad would even need to be unlocked.

Most likely yes. Most users looking for Ubuntu are probably unlocked considering that usually flashing anything besides an update requires unlocking.

Canonical said no such thing, ubuntu-on-android is something entirely different to this, it works much like splashtop does on the atrix. They also never said that end users would be able to access it from the play store, it requires being integrated by OEMs.

I wasn't clear, what I meant is that after canonical's anoncement I heard rumors from random people talking about that. And that always bugged me cuz I couldn't figure out how would they pull that off. But what u said makes more sense.
Is HTC Android 4.1 update will do for your device? It seems to me that this company is very neglected futuristic, I would like to know if you do something on the other phones than the ones that now sell ..... Does anyone have knowledge about this? because the manufacturer's support page gives me the answer "Unfortunately I do not have such information, but I can still help you?" I thought the pile instead of lg or htc smsunga this case will look different, but it turns out that the Korean company is on track to attract users, feels neglected by HTC, and the very next box while I wonder. Huh? I believe you are talking about the carriers updating their newer phones first, which is exactly what they do. There is no point in spending
money to update an old phone that isn't even sold anymore.
Its not official but I doubt it will happen
Yeah, it's not looking good for our phone for an official release.
But its not SO hopeless, because we already have really good cm10, aokp, PA roms with android jb and they dont have very much bugs, we also have android 4.2 roms(buggy, but still), AND some devs are veery close to booting sense 4+ , the only thing that wont be inside is 3D cam and some 3D features.(I hope to be proven wrong about 3D)

Dude...patience....once T-Mobile releases their 4.2.2 update it will be available and quickly built into every custom ROM for the HTC One. I have a developer edition device and have been running custom ROMs since I unboxed the thing. After every T-Mobile update, the devs ripped out the parts needed for wifi calling and updated the custom ROMs. It will come...T-Mobile is just notorious for being slow at releasing updates.

Is there any apps that do the same thing?
Nope
There's currently a bounty for getting this done on the Nexus 4, last I checked it was $1,400. This bounty has been up for MONTHS and no one has been able to do it yet. $1,400 is a hell of a lot of motivation, so I'm sure they are trying, it's just baked too deep. There are rumors that T-mobile's 4.2.2 is taking so long because they are attempting to separate wifi calling, which I really hope is a true rumor.
