[Q] Flashing firmware fails - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all I have an s3 and had it for some time flashed original firmware fine in the past. as well as been rooted in the past without issues.
I consider my self experienced in flashing using odin / kies / Root Tool Kit ect.
When I flash any firmware it fails. this is in kies as well as odin and even in S3 Tool kit v6
I am more than confident i am doing all the correct way as i have done it in the past many times sucsessfully. lates drivers, default settings in odin selected ect. But when i flsh the top left led on the phone goes red but noi progress bar is displayed.
I wait in odin and after around 5 mins it comes back saying failed.
My last image i burned is as below. it works but i can now no longer update or burn any other image to the phone.
Seems i am stuck on 4.1.1
Baseband I9300BWDLI1
Android 4.1.1
Build number JRO03C.I9300XXDLIH
AP: I9300XXDLIH
CP: I9300BWDLI1
CSC: I9300O2UDLI3
Can anyone pleaase shed some light on this issue for me?
Many thanks for your time

I have I donr the factory reset,
Odin fails when you try and flash, it goes through the start and then just hangs for 5 mins then fail in red comes up.
The odin settings are default as always and have tried 4 images now and all 4 fail to flash.
on a reboot the phone still has v4.1.1 installed but all reset to factory settings it is a though there is a block on writing to the rom.

Damaged NAND i guess then .
jje

Are you sure Kies isn't running in the background?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Fixed Yippi
All sorted.
Tried it from another laptop and bingo all working again.
Must be some bad files on the main pc.
thought i was gonna be stuck on 4.1.1 for ever there......
Cheers for the replies and the advice

s3 i9300 not charging

i have flashed my stock rom 4.1.2 after flashing cm10.1.Now my phone is not charging by stock charger and also by using usb via pc..what should i do.at starting it was charging now its not charging.i had tried with another charger also its showing that phone is charging.but battery level is not increasing at all.PC is not able to detect my phone also..before this problem started i transferred files.please help me out
Try flashing a stock rom again, download it from sammobile and use odin on your pc.
If it's still the same then try another battery, after that you need a service centre repair.

Download mode is still working, so connect the phone to your pc while that screen is displayed and flash the stock rom - the rom currently installed is not a stock rom, so you went wrong previously.
If your phone won't connect then try another lead and pc. If it still won't work then your charging problem may be due to a faulty usb socket. You can also flash using mobile odin.
Read the other phone not charging threads for further clues .

i am now on cm 10.1.earlier it was charging when i was on cm10.1.then flashed stock rom it all went fine for one day before it has stopped charging.that means it not a rom problem?
It depends if you changed anything during that day, if you left the phone fully stock and it still went wrong then it's probably a hardware fault.

i did cache clean of apps running using clean master app.will that effect anything.i opened license file to see what it is..more than that i did nothing..
No idea, you're best off flashing a fresh installation of the stock rom and using it for a few days without installing or restoring any apps or data. Sounds like a hardware fault though.

Bricked phone! Please help!

Hi.
Please read all of what I tried before suggesting something.
I have a S3 GT-I9300 international version. It's from Orange Israel and its warranty recently ended.
All of what I tried below has been done with the phone in the Download mode by turning it while holding the power, volume down and the home key, there is absolutely nothing else this phone can do, if I just normally power it on it'll get stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen, I can't even get to the animated Samsung logo. Kies is uninstalled completely and I have no AV.
Now here is what I tried so far:
1. Most forums said that I could try a regular flash via Odin by inserting the firmware.md5 file into the PDA section and flashing it, but that just makes Odin get stuck on the process (Setup Connection...) or give me this error [1st screenshot from the left]
2. I also tried attaching the .pit file for my 16GB S3 named (GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit) alone but that makes Odin get stuck on this process as well [2nd screenshot from the left]
3. I tried attaching both .md5 and .pit files at the same time but it just also gets stuck on the (Setup Connection...) forever. And when I say stuck I don't mean Odin stops responding, I mean it just hangs on that process.
4. I looked in forums even more and they suggested I try different USB ports or cables and I did, still nothing.
5. I tried different Odin versions for all of the things I already tried.
6. I tried flashing different firmware versions for all of the things I already tried.
7.1. I downloaded Heimdall Suite and I tried to use it since a guy mentioned it helped him immensely by him just installing the drivers using the "zadig.exe" file and choosing his S3 from the All Devices list and installing the driver, however I encounter something different because the program has Replace Driver option that gives me this error [3rd screenshot from the left]
7.2. I later discovered that I can install the driver anyway by clicking the arrow next to the button and choosing Install WCID driver, that worked successfully, however it hasn't solved my problem like the guy on the forum, for him, the S3 started to get recognized by Odin and it flashed his device successfully, for me, it still gave me that error.
8. After I installed the driver from Zadig I launched Heimdall Suite in hopes of finally flashing my device but it gave me this error when trying to load up the .md5.gz [4th screenshot from the left]
9. I then proceeded to add the .pit file I downloaded earlier into the Flash tab in Heimdall tool and adding the boot.img because I think that should be enough to get it going, plus I don't know what else to put. It gave me this error [5th screenshot from the left]
I'll keep updating this post when I try new stuff, however I would like you guys to suggest things I haven't tried before or supply me with files I haven't found already (.pit files, firmwares I'm not aware of, etc.). Would appreciate any little help of sorting this problem out, the warranty ended so I don't know what am I gonna do if I don't get it fixed :/
Thanks.

Yep sounds bricked. If that's the case, send for repair. Your NAND is probably borked.
Out of interest, what does all the info on the screen say in download mode?

Does that give you any idea of what I should try next?
I really want to put repairing the phone to the absolute last option.
Remove Kies = remove USB drivers Odin may not work .
PIT can kill your phone .
I don't think its SDS more like your flashing PIT has bricked the phone .

The problem with the S3 is that there really aren't many options before the last option. From what I can see, you have already tried them all.
It tells me you haven't got SDS, but we already knew you had a NAND issue, regardless of that. It was just a matter of interest.

I didn't mention that I also tried all of what I tried with Kies installed.
And it is SDS, I was just browsing through photos and the phone just locked up and restarted and couldn't get passed the GALAXY S3 flash screen, which is why I started trying all this crap, including flashing PIT. And the symptoms and behavior of the phone hasn't changed since the first time it restarted on me. So I definitely didn't change ANYTHING to the phone whatsoever.

It could be SDS. We've seen a few failures like this where download mode doesn't show SDS symptoms. It doesn't mean the result is not SDS. Its uncomfirmable.
SDS possible , Nand damaged itself possible but 90% of problems are user error .
That error is often in trying to smash their way out of trouble avoiding the simple correct method and throwing everything at the phone .Following stuff from multiple forums then asking help on XDA at the end when it is to late .
Whatever you have done in the past right or wrong does not matter it is now a service centre job .
Samsung generally offer 24 months limited warranty but would be likely to reject due to custom rom count .

[Q] Help fix soft brick

My GT-I9300 international galaxy S3 decided yesterday to brick itself, all of a sudden its stuck at the boot screen (white samsung ... text).
Tried to reboot into recovery but no go, when i hold the buttons it just continues to reboot and reboot, only showing the white text.
Tried to reboot into download and that worked, i though fhew, i got a berak and not all is lost.
In download mode it says current binary Samsung official even though i rooted and changed rom...
Product name is blank, Custom bin download is no, status is custom.
Tried to recover with kies but it complains that it cannot install new firmware (after it downloads the firmware, extracts, and all instruction followed).
Tried with odin (several original roms with my region and the one from kies) but with no luck, odin complains "There is no PIT partition.".
Tried to repartition with GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit but then it does SET pit and hangs on "Get PIT for Mapping".
Is there any chance to save my phone ? I'm getting really desperate here.
Product name blank = sds. Only samsung service Centre can repair

Hm, it worked for me once , try connecting it to odin in downlode mode and try installing cmd form there, it should work and help you get your phone back. Since original rom is not working. If that wont work then i am not sure. i need to get a better understand of what you did to it,for the phone to go into brick mode.

No offence, but it's pointless. He has no product name. He needs a replacement Motherboard. It's nothing to do with anything he did.

[Q] Cant fix the BRICK

Hello, Today my friend gave me his I9300 to fix because it could not startup. What is happening: when I press power button I see first galaxy s3 welcome screen and then its shutdown or restarts and give again this first screen or it just froze on it. So first I flashed via odin latest CWM, then I tried to flash slimbean ROM 4.4. Try to do as written in instructions, first wipe, format, then flash, but when I try to flash phone just restarts and freeze on that first startup screen... Thats all... But intresting part is that when my friend took his phone to cutomer service to repair it, because he bought new phone like in 2013 december, they said that motherboard is bad, it just burned out because he downloaded some bad programs and that cause motherboard failure... But my friend always download his apps from playstore, so I think that is impossible to cause motherboard failure by playstore apps... And custom services not repairing it for free, they asking like almost 200USD in my country to repair it... So my friend just gave me his phone to try to fix... Any ideas?
PS when I tried flash via odin stock 4.3 I got error:
<ID:0/004> modem.bin
<ID:0/004> recovery.img
<ID:0/004> system.img
<ID:0/004> __XmitData_Write
<ID:0/004> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
And I get BIG RED "FAIL" :/
I tried once again flash via odin, now it when successfuly BUT... When phone restarts and appears android icon with filling up blue bar it just go like 1/3 and freeze, then restarts and again android icon and at 1/3 it just freeze.
I tried again flash CWM and flash slimbeans 4.4 ROM, now it just flashed good, then I reboot phone and still... It is going restarting nonstop... Does it really coud be that motherboard burned ?
Flash full stock rom with odin then boot into recovery and factory reset.
Probable that efs or other partition is corrupt.

I tried again flash stock via odin but no luck. This time when flash is passed and I get android icon with filling bar, this time it when fully and then froze and phone restarts, but now when I try to power it up after first welcome screen I get lying down android with red triangle and after some time phone shutdowns... And I cant get into stock recovery I get that android with red triangle..
When I try again flash stock via odin, sometimes I get FAIL when writing system sometimes it goes success but still cant power it on
Still trying to boot it but no luck... One time it looks almost wanted to startup because I was able to hear sound of welcome and logo starts showing but froze on very few frames of logo and then restarts....

Thank you very much for your post, I will try it ASAP
I tried 4.1.2 version but I get FAIL on odin while trying write system... I am going to try 4.3, maybe it works
I also tried 4.3 version, flashing via odin was successful but still froze on android icon with filling blue bar or make bar full then restarts phone and again shows that android icon with filling bar ... I do not know what else I can do
I read that maybe flashing 4.0.4 might help but I could not find working download link...
Flashed stock 4.0.4 but still, forever restarts, come up to android with filling bar and then restarts after some time :/ I dont know what else I can do...
up
If rescue firmware failed then emmc chip is probably toast, new motherboard required.

Where I can get new motherboard? And is it very difficult to change it?

S7 edge bootloop - Have tried wiping cache partition, factory reset and odin flash.

I kindly request members of this community to help me with this issue.
My S7 Edge Model: SM-G935FD keeps restarting randomly . I have tried to fix it in all way that i could.
My phone is not rooted . As my last resort i tried flashing stock rom using odin. When i get into android recovery mode" No command " is shown.
Pls kindly help me resolve this problem.
you didn't mention it flashed normally till the end or there was some kind of error, What you should do is get to download mode and verify if it's indeed model g935fd because sometimes it's different from what is in "about device" and also check the security level and download a stock firmware accordingly from Sammobile or somewhere, do a factory reset from recovery then flash with odin. that should do unless it's a hardware issue.
The model is correct. And i did download stock rom and flashed through odin.
I had done factory resets a couple of times too.
What made u think that it is a hardware issue ?
Isnt there any way that i can diagnose this ?

when you are in download mode, check the model in the upper left corner..
i said it can be a hardware problem because sometimes when the flash memory is corrupt that happens, does it get very hot when it's rebooting (left side of the back camera), but it still can be a software try flash another firmware (latest possible ) if it doesn't work try again with pit file
