I agree. I'd try that. plus look to see part of the phone is draining the power (system, apps etc.) My battery lasts all day, unless i use it a lot. But I noticed when i flashed a new rom on it, it was like a brand new battery. Standby lasted for days, Not a day..
Mine's good
my battery lasts all day when i don't play games for long periods of times.
Better than my battery. Mine dies within a matter of 3-4 hours. Phone idle is my only culprit when looking in the battery usage. I've never figured it out, just kind of dealt with it for the moment. My phone does get really hot a lot. Norm running 112F. Anyways, I had one of my volume buttons sticking.. The internal button, not the pushing one.. and I assume that is what caused it to overheat. I dunno. Hope my ranting helped at least brainstorm your situation.
Wait, did you fix it? I have the same problem, and I notice the top volume button on mine is a bit thinner than the bottom one (although my cameras aren't working either), was this really the culprit for you?

im just wondering if theres a ROM thats really quick, and if i needed to i could apply a lag fix...
and a ROM that has excellent battery life, looking for 20 hours or more, with AVERAGE use such as texting, a few phone calls, installing apps, web, and maybe playing a few games(you can ignore the playing games, i understand that it will take tons of battery to play a game)
please list all that you can, because ive done my part of searching and no one lists how much battery life they can get on average with their ROM.
thanks for the help.
any.. at all?
Yep
I am running Axura 2.1
It runs fast and smooth with no lag fix. I used to both over clock and voodoo lag fix when I ran Bionix, but once I switched Axura I stopped feeling the need to do either. I just run the ROM as-is without changing kernel, or modem. I changed the bootup and shutdown animations this last time because I don't care for the 2.1 versions, but that has nothing to do with performance.
Battery is subjective, but here is my experience with Axura. I am running on the standard, stock battery that came in my phone when I got it new. I usually charge it overnight with the phone powered on. I don't power cycle my phone.
I unplugged it yesterday at about 9:30 am and put it on my hip. My usage yesterday was maybe medium usage. I had a quick 5 minute call. I had a call with by brother for about 45 minutes. I played World War about a dozen times with the screen on about 10 minutes each time. I played Jewel Quest for about 30 minutes. I played Sims 3 for about an hour. I showed off the movie capabilities to by brother-in-law as we watched about 20 minuets of Sherlock Holmes. I turned the screen on just to check the time or play with the menus a couple dozen times. I think that was about it.
Last night I did not plug it in before bed because I still had 48% battery left. At 9:27am this morning (24 hours later) it still had 23% battery left.

i've never used 3G i put my settings on the GMD or something which is EDGE only.
I might add that dark themes help. The display is LED based and not LCD, this means no backlight. So black pixels are simply "off" and dark ones draw very little current.
It is not as good as leaving the screen off altogether, but it helps.

I have a issue while using EDGE or GPRS whenever i use this service and some one calls me he/she receive a message that my phone is powered off
Mostly i am on the move and i am really frustrated because of this issue.
Do you have any solution for this
I am seriously thinking about returning my Sony Tablet S.
I can't seem to get more than 3 hours out of this without a charge.
I play a full movie with wifi/GPS on and then i am down to 30%.
I do have it rooted and most of the bloat apps is gone. I check the battery indicator constantly and the biggest app using battery seems to be android so nothing is zapping my battery life.
Any ideas?
I think something is wrong with you're tablet, mine lasts for more then 8 hours without root.
So yes, return it and ask for a replacement.

Try and adjust the backlight intensity
When I first used my tablet the battery seemed to be gone in no time. I have found that reducing the backlight manually has helped. I would say there was a definite difference.
Thanks for all the responses.
Problem is this is for my kid. He don't really have the patience to wait for charges every day.
He like to watch movies on the tablet and play some games here and there. Considering he only use it for 3-4 hours a day, this is insane how short the battery is.
I thought i will never say this...but another android guy bite the dust and cross over to the evil apple kingdom (exchanging for the ipad2 with 10 hour battery life).

so we've all told you that it doesn't sound normal and that you should get much longer out of the device and your answer is "it must be android" rather than a faulty device.......
8 hours to 10 hours on mine, depending on what i do. with and without root, it doesn't change my battery life.
Mine about 8 hours
Had the same issue in the past... Delete all on USB and make a factory reset solved the problem. Now it run up to 8 hours.

Same issue and fix here.
I have decent battery life ( 6+ hours) but one thing that makes me wonder is the idle time.
5 hours of screen time is less power consuming than the tablet being 20 hours in idle. Has anyone the same experience?
Yes. In my case it's the 3G modem. Turn it off generally and only on when you use it.
If I compare this case with my iPad I have to say, that the 3G modem in the sony uses much more energy in idle than in my iPad.
My Tablet is WiFi-only. And WiFi shuts down when the screen goes off.
Battery use:
Tablet idle ------------ 49% --> 15h 8m 57s
Screen---------------- 37% --> 4h 56m 31s
Is this strange behaviour or am I just paranoid since this is a totally different battery usage than on a phone( e.g Sensation)?

I report the same type of stats...
Its using a lot of battery in sleep mode. But sometimes it doesn't, sometimes sleep mode last way longer but most of the time its about 25-30 hours in sleep mode and that is way too much...
I hope ICS will fix this, if not i may return mine.
And not 2g/3g/4g here, no celular radio here.. So, its not that.

Hmm. You do realise playing videos and having the wifi on in the background will cane the battery? Even more so if you're streaming said videos to your device via wifi. No doubt you've got the screen turned up full brightness as well?
Mine runs perfectly well and can last for a couple DAYS between charges, depending of course on how I use it.
Follow the tips provided by the others, you might get a fix. If not, get a new one from Sony. It's not a problem with Android - I suspect if you watch hours and hours of movies on an iPad you will still experience excessive battery drain because of the intensive nature of what you're doing!
Thanks for all the suggestions. If the tablet is for me to use daily, I probably would have condition the battery, try to delete all and then restart. However, it is for my kid and frankly it is unacceptable that a brand new tablet after watching one movie (just regular mp4 file i installed into the internal SD) is down to 30% charge.
I won't even start with the rest of the things i am disappointed with; the missing 6 gigs on the 16 gig, the screen little darker than i wanted (the screen protector I don't like at all), and frankly honeycomb in general is not that crispy and well developed.
I did end up getting a Ipad 2. After watching 1 movie, the thing still got 80% juice left....is night and day. Screen is sharper and brighter and most importantly it last more than a day without charge.
I don't want to hype about ipad here and i am still an android fan (i got 2 android phones), but the ipad really is WOW compared to the current corp of android tablets. Yes i am disappointed i won't be able to "tweak" the ipad like i can with droid pads, but Apple OS is so much better developed than honeycomb or ICS for that matter that really you can live without the tweaking.
For all you guys, with Wi-fi only (and 3G if you like the solution), before putting it to sleep put the device in flight mode. I've done it on mine and it was asleep for 4 days while I went out on a journey and when I came back only 30% of battery was gone...
I honestly can only fault the ipad in the sense that a media device, that for all intensive purposes is basically a more convenient option than a laptop, does not have flash support. Quick web browsing on tablets is great but it's useless without flash :S. Damn apple. Other than that I think the iPad is pretty great, especially now that the pricing for the new iPad has become alot sharper than in the price. Obviously to combat the success of Android tablets of late. But all I want out of a tablet is a bit of web browsing here and there, a couple games now and then and a nice digital photo frame to boot
I don't know about everyone else, but I have no desire to flash the crap out of my Sony tablet like I do with my SGS2. Now that I have root access it's doing everything I wanted it to do (and should have done!) from the start. So long is it's stable and responsive I'll be happy with it for a few years at least.
I was never happy with my tablet from day one but for me it was just software - sluggish and app incompatibility - a factory reset and root has fixed all that now. Never once have I had an issue with battery life. Sure as hell out-does any gameboy/ds/psp I've owned. Standby will last weeks if I don't touch it too.
So to those of you getting around 1-2 days standby time, something is seriously wrong with your tablet. There must either be a fault with your battery itself, or some app has gone rogue and just keeps it awake the whole time. i dont think any type of conditioning your battery will heed any results;
I didn't condition my battery at all when I got it and it's just fine. I played it with the 5% charge it had out of box till it died, got home, charged a bit, played with it till it shut off again, then when it got about 1/2 full just took it off charge and played with it again. Now it normally gets charged every friday whether it needs it or not.
Am envious to those who managed to use their phone for more than a day. I bought this phone for about 2 weeks now and have done the normal full charge for 8 hours on the first time. Since then, I have fully charged twice and let the battery gone flat once. I have flashed Neutrino rom and currently Latveyit rom, and the battery last best 12 hours so far.
I charged the phone to 94% at about 7pm and just made two calls and two text messages. I did a navigation on maps for about 15mins max. By about 11pm, battery is at 57%, I play some games for about 10mins and went to bed, in the morning it's about 35%. I realise that the first 50% really goes fast and after that it's pretty decent until less than 20% and it drains fast again. Background application I have are the normal chat programs, whatsapp, viber, kakaotalk, skype and ebuddy. I have waze running in the background although I think it shuts off after 15mins. I have a mix of wifi and 3g usage, usually on wifi though. Is this normal?
edit: I also have Lookout antivirus running
All your chat programs running in the back ground prevent your device to sleep correctly, they wake it up every time they check if there is a new message.
Try to keep only the apps you use and try for each app to increase the check delay or disable it.
The antivirus does help.
2 weeks is a bit early to make a comment about the battery.
Download Battericalibration from the market and use it every shift rom change.
Read about topic on the forum but not become a maniac in "battery life".
If the screen stays lit for 5-7 hours the battery will be empty in like 7-8 hours. If you only speak 1 hour at it the battery will be empty in 3 days.
All depends on how you use it!
Sorry for bad english.

I thought that the chat programs will only cause problems if there are frequent messages since they're base on push?
2 weeks is early? How does that affect the battery's performance? I thought when it's new, it's most optimum and slowly degrades through time? The screen was off most of the time unless I was doing anything I mentioned or just checking the time which is just on, check then off. I don't think I am paranoid over the battery life, just curious how to get it over a day.

You might try 1Ghz faux kernels as well. They seemed to have helped my battery life considerably.
Chek out what apps you have running in the background and be sure you set youre network yourself (my phone was always changing from 2g to 3g and after i selected the network myself it gave me a 1day + boost .
And you shoud know that the litium polimer batteryes are affected by cold temperatures.
I wish you luck!
I did use cm7 (neutrino) and got about the same battery life span as the current rom (laytveyit), and am currently on the faux 1ghz kernel. Anyway, I will see how it performance in the weeks to come and hopefully the newer version of the rom will improve it. I thought cold temperature helps preserve the battery's life span?
EDIT: Thanks for all the advice!

Lol all those chats are you problem imo
The "standard" apps used to figure out what's eating your batteries are:
BetterBatteryStats: for wakelocks
CpuSpy: to tell if you phone is going into deep sleep or not
Built in Battery Usage: to see a pretty graph and tell what's using the most juice
SystemTuner: I just recently started playing with this, lots of information.
Look up BetterBatteryStats here up XDA. There's plenty of threads on how to use it. Look up wakelocks.
Ok i found out what is draining my battery most its the android system i tried freezing it but it still seems a no go i only get around 2 hrs battery life mostly 1 and a half hrs of battery life i took a screen shot maybe someone can help me out please because someone told me freezing apps saves alot of battery life to me its the same as before but i think it might be draining faster now its like whatever i do nothing helps every phone i have had there has been from 2-4 hrs battery life there's something im doing wrong i never use Bluetooth or nfc or sync or gps i always keep those off so what am i missing here and yes I've googled this thousands of times this is my 5th original battery i bought and i get the same results i even bought a extended ravpower battery i get 3 hrs with it all of them are brand new please im desperate here i thought the note was known for good battery life im starting to believe android phones general won't even get 6 hrs battery life cuz I've never seen it that's why i bought this device is for the battery life and to watch movies on but what's the point of having this phone if it won't stay alive through a whole movie lol does anyone have any suggestions?

your screenshot shows 1hr21m on battery with 97% left. whats the problem? charge phone to 100%. use normaly until you get down to about 10% and then take a screenshot of system settings/battery and post.
Punctuation is your friend. One lonely question mark at the end doesn't count.
Hey guys,
I have a problem with my GS3's battery life. Until a few days ago, my battery would last almost a full waking day on a full charge, but one day I noticed my phone loosing juice a lot faster than usual, and now it can barely go a full six hours on normal use.
I have installed a lot of new apps over the past few days, so it could be one of those. Here are the apps I've installed since or just before the problem started: HEAVY sword, Clash of clans, Wheres my water, Instamessage, Vector, an old version of Riptide GP2 and Instaframe.
But I suspect it could be a hardware problem as the phone warms up after a little while of normal use, and warms up a lot after a while of heavy use. I know phones warm up under pressure, but this phone gets uncomfortable after a few minutes of browsing.
I've looked at other GS3 battery issues on this and other forums, but nothing like my problem. One day it's perfect then all of a sudden BOOM. Just so unexpected.
Really hoping it's just a rouge app, so if anyone has has battery issues with any of these apps please notify. So yeah please help! :crying:
P.S: It also warms up alarmingly while charging.

Might be one of those apps. Try installing betterbatterystats to see what kind of process is heating up your phone.
I installed better battery stats but that might have not been necessary because all I did was uninstall one app that I had for about a week, and Viola! Problem solved! I still wanna keep this thread open since it's just been one day, I wanna see if the phone stays fine for at least a week before declaring problem solved. Thanks!
