I'm traveling to Israel for a couple weeks at the end of this month. I have the option of receiving a free cell phone for a few weeks OR an Israeli SIM card (GSM)
I figured it would be annoying to carry around two phones, so I thought I'd just replace the SIM card. I have the latest leaked global firmware installed (4.03.2 or whatever it's called) and I'm running CounterShrike 2.1. Will this ROM work with the Israeli SIM? Which sense based ROMs work with GSM? Which adapter should I use for the SIM card? Any experiences from people traveling to Israel with this phone?
Thanks!

Yep, already plan to do a nandroid backup before flashing over. Ideally I'd like to use a ROM that supports both GSM and CDMA - that way, I can flash beforehand and still have the ability to use my phone in American airports. Maister seems to be GSM only.
mostly all working with gsm just change the network default to 0 or 1 in bulid.prop
and welcome

Which rom are you referring to?
if u look just for calling and receive sms any ROM would work
if u look for 3g and sending sms u should get suil's roms
or any with sms fix / global
cm9 + suil's gsm fix is gr8 battery life in idle time
or any sense rom with lots of tweaking and removing

Ok, so, I have the global firmware. If I use a sense rom (i.e. the stock rom), everything should just work if I plug in the SIM card and change the network type to global?
the problem is when u restart the phone it backing to default
so that's why i set the build.prop and hard reset the phone so gsm will be the default
edit:
if its set to global mode so u wont need to change it will connect to any network
lte gsm wcdma ....

Hello,
I have installed the voice dialing mod onto my Gt-P7500. (P7500XXKL3)
All appeared to be working fine, and I was very happy.. Until I realised that the 3G wasn't working anymore. It kept toggling Flight mode on/off quickly and not connecting. Only 2G works.
I did lots of playing around, and discovered that my network carrier MTN in South Africa doesn't work with the new modem files.
Vodacom/Vodafone does work however.
So I reflashed the XXKL3 modem file back, and 3G worked again, but I can't make phone calls.. but I can dial *xxx# type numbers.
Is there anyway that Almaqdad could please have a look into it and see if he get it work somehow?
Or does anyone know if there are other modem files out there that might work?
Many thanks!
I flashed stock ICS ROM 4.0.4 Italy using ODIN on P7500 earlier running stock HC 3.2 INU. Then I have installed the voice dialing mod. Now both voice and 3G have been working well.
XXKL4
I am going to try XXKL4 modem, and will report back.

P7500XXLQ8 doesn't work for me either.
This leads me to believe that only installing the Voice Dialing Mod Zip files are is not enough.. there's something special with the accompanying modem files as well. sigh..
The correct and accompanying modem version to use is the I9103XXLQ3.
Looks like my network carrier is just not in the list..

Sorry, that's the ROM I'm using.
The problem is that when I use my network carrier MTN RSA's Sim Card, I can do voice dialing, but my 3G doesn't work.
If i put my Vodafone Sim in, then it all works fine.
I still have a year left with a data plan on MTN, so I can't just ditch it..
hi,
i will be head to asia countries next month. my phone is unlocked and rooted. but i am still stick with stock rom. wanna find a rom which is nice for gsm and could be easy to switch back to verizon. i know for calling any rom will work. but is there any rom perfect for calling, sms and data?

not quite understand.
in the bulid.prop if its set to cdma
it will set to it every time it boot
even u change it with "phone info" to gsm lets say
but if u change the bulid, prop file to gsm and hard reset it will be set to default from that point
in gingerbread the change with "phone info" will be perm
im not sure about data/3g u might need to flash a patch for it

i think it has options in the aroma installer for CDMA or GSM. also please read the post first i think for CDMA if you go into network settings it goes wonky...
So my aunt has am AT&T Galaxy Note on T-Mobile and I told the store she purchased the phone from to flash the T-Mobile radios so that she can get 4G HSPA+ but the device is stuck on gingerbread and I would really like to update it to stock Jellybean with Touchwiz? If I use Odin to flash the latest update will she lose her unlock? But then will it need to be unlocked now that T-Mobile has 4G LTE in Las Vegas? I figured all she would need to do is buy a new T-Mobile 4G LTE compatible SIM and then use that but I'm not sure. Can the new firmware be rooted and can it be unlocked if need be? Also, she broke the mirco-usb port so is there any way that I can flash to stock without the use of that port? I'm really sorry for all the questions but if anyone could answer them I would be very grateful.
If the usb port is broken, you won't be able to use Odin. Is the device rooted? If it is there is hope! If not, you're up the river without a paddle.

I know right but luckily the device is rooted and because the shop said they flashed the T-Mobile radios, I believe it has a custom recovery on it.
Whew! I'm glad to hear you're already rooted. You can forget about Odin now. Flashing roms ands modems thru recovery won't lose your unlocked SIM info. First thing I would do is update your recovery. Then you can flash a new JB rom. A lot of newer roms depend on TWRP recovery. You can find that here in the original android development section. Read carefully and follow the install via .zip way. Since you're on tmobile I'd read the post just before this one about JB and what modems are working best. I'm on at&t so I can't help you there. They also remark on what roms they are running. You can follow their lead, or check out all three available roms in the development selection. Again read the developers directions, and make sure the rom is for your device before you flash anything. Then enjoy!
I didn't see any mention of having installed a custom recovery. If the OP hasn't done that he can still update to the latest stock rom using Kies Air. He can get that from the app store.
Being rooted has nothing to do with any of this. Rom flashing only depends on having 1) a pc with Odin and a working usb port, or 2)having a custom recovery already installed.
Flashing a custom rom won't affect the radio you already have, but if you update to the JB stock rom it will flash the current baseband (modem).
Unlocking is permanent. No flashing can change that phone back to a locked state.
Yes, you need a 4G LTE sim card, but under even best conditions you will mostly see 4G only (HSPA+ ).
I might be wrong, but to use T-Mobile's LTE you have to use a stock AT&T Rom. I'm in Houston and we just got LTE here.

Not an ATT rom.... but an ATT MODEM.
That and setting the fast.t-mobile.com APN will give access to T-Mobile LTE.

For real? So I can use a different Rom? Does it still have to be like a 4.0.4 version or can I use something more current?

You can use your choice of stock or custom roms with LTE.
UCLF6, UCMB4, UCMD3 can all be used under ICS, JB custom roms. 4.0.4, 4.1.2, 4.2.2 or the likes. Cyanogenmod, paranoid, slim, padawan, it doesn't matter.
On anything but stock samsung you can *#*#4636#*#* into dialer then phone options to change between lte and wcdma or all. Also available under settings/mobile network/preference.
Those are the 3 most current modems with access to LTE. UCLF6 being from the official ICS last year.

I've been an android since tmobile.
That and being Computer/SmartPhone Technical Support....I constantly try to be in "the know".
Shoot I fix cars now and never changed my oil before 2 years ago.
I tried to update my I717 (AT&T) and have nothing but access to restore or download mode...it errored out, then I didn't do the emergency backup right away. When I tried to do it later, I get about 96% of the way done, and it errors out....

I don't think there is a dependence on which recovery you use but more of a recommendation. I've flashed many ROMs with CWM that the developer recommended using TWRP and they worked just fine. So, long as you do the procedure right, it doesn't matter what recovery you use.
does anyone know how to fix the mms issue with being unable to be sent/received (group text included). if anyone has got it to work, could you share your apn settings?

I have had the same problem. I will try a system restore and then see if that works. I am running ARHD's Sense 5.5 with s-on
Ask the rom maker to put the right apn's in... A lot of euro guys dont have the correct stuff and dont care to fix it very much as their primary user base is euro users...
Why are you still on a sense 5.5 rom, sense 6 was released officially for at&t and developer us build which is configured for us market

Being s-on and not being able to get the new firmware ( as far as I know) I'm not sure how Sense 6 will run without updating it, but thank you for your concern.
Ok so flash back a nand backup relock bootloader accept ota reunlock and flash away after.....simple

It does sound simple when you say it like that, but I'm still pretty new to the unlocked bootloader world and I'm just not quite sure how to do all of that but I will look into it.

XT912 is not gsm. Its gsm+cdma.
For custom ROMs if you want to use XT912 on gsm, you'll need the GSM fix for that.
