Replacement device, looking for IMEI - HTC Droid DNA

Quick question. I received a replacement device due to creaks in the case. I want to go ahead and unlock and root the phone, but I don't have the sticker that has my IMEI on it anymore. Is there a place to see it, or an ADB command I can run that will display my IMEI for my phone?

If you still have the box that it came in, it should be on there too.
Also, I dunno if it shows it on a non-rooted device, but in Settings -> About -> Phone Identity, it lists it there.
Sent from my HTC DNA.

go into settings and about phone and phone identity its in there 3rd one down i believe

Thanks, the one on the box was the one that came with the original device, I found the IMEI for the new phone. I have an issue though...the runme.sh script is supposed to run forever, yet mine runs and stops in about 5 seconds. Is it supposed to do that?

Couldn't tell you about that, jcase is the master of that. You might be able to hop on the DNA IRC chat and catch him or someone just as knowledgeable. Sorry

Does anyone have the actual channel name to add to my IRC client?

No should go on forever
Not an iPhone.....

I got it all flashed. The problem was HTC sync manager kept trying to communicate with my phone and it killed out my ADB connection. Thanks though.

Go into your bootloader, (power off then power on with volume down) and the go down to barcodes and it shows the same as what the sticker did...

Help me help a buddy?

Ok, I'm a Samsung Captivate guy, but my buddy found a Droid Eris, and I have a couple questions.
The phone wasn't stolen by my buddy, just found by him after a college party at his house, and nobody every came back to claim it. My buddy even tried to contact people on the phone to return it to them, with no luck. So it's not like you'd be helping a criminal. Some dumb drunk college kid that's spoiled enough to not even look for their phone just left it at a house, that's all.
That being said, the phone is locked down, and I'm trying to find a way to possibly flash back to stock software and unlock the phone for him. I haven't seen the phone yet, so I don't exactly know how it it's locked down, or if you can help at all. He said the phone does turn on still. Also, I'm on AT&T, so I don't know if this is even possible with verizon, because I know you have to activate the device with them, not just pop in a sim card.
I know that for my captivate I could just use a program to flash back to stock software so long as I could get into download mode, and that removes locks on my device. I'm wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction with a link to a thread or something that could help me get the phone up and running for my friend.

He should bring the phone to the police department, or perhaps return it to Verizon Wireless. You'd think that they would be able to determine the previous owner based on the MEID.

I'd have to agree with that. Funny story is this... I was talking to an trooper today on my way home and he was telling me about a Verizon phone that was brought to the barracks earlier this week and they've been calling the numbers in the phone to let the owner know where the phone is and no one returned their calls. So today they called Verizon and said they have a phone that was found and delivered to their barracks and wanted to get in contact with the owner. Verizon will not give them any of the owners information which is fine IMO due to privacy policies and it's not something that was involved in a crime. What DOES kinda bother me and I don't understand is this.... Not only will they not release anything to the police about who the owner of the phone is... They also will not take any information from the police and contact the owner themselves to let the owner know where their phone is..
How did you call the numbers on the phone if it is locked down?

Lol! I didn't even think of that until I read your post but that's a very good point.
To the op your friend should take the phone to a corporate Verizon store or the police (I recommend the police personally.) Even if he didn't "steal" the phone it is still stolen property. If you find a wallet you don't have the right to keep it just because someone else lost it, by law you have to turn it in with all of the contents in place. Besides, it was probably reported lost/stolen which means it can't even be activated.

You could just run the phone off wifi so the phone could essentially work (texting and calling can now be made over wifi using certain apps) Im going to be the bad person here, if its locked down by a password or pattern lock or an app, boot into recovery and wipe data, will factory reset the phone. I cant remember if the Eris has Recovery mode stock, try it. Press and hold Volume down and end button, youll go to a white screen, press volume up to boot into "recovery." Once it boots into recovery, (black screen with green lettering) use the trackball to go to the "wipe" option-select with trackball. Select "Wipe data". then press volume down to return to the main menu, reboot phone. If it doesnt have recovery, search around here for a way to flash recovery onto it, should be as simple as downloading the correct file, place on sd card (using computer) and booting phone by pressing volume down+end key, the phone should automatically find the file and run it.
For the record I agree with everyone else. Find a way to return the phone. Give it to the police or Verizon. Im just answering your question cause I need a 10th post to post in the dev area
what kind of lock down is the phone in?

[Q] Trying to go back to stock, but power button is broken

So here is my problem. I have been rooted on my Thunderbolt since I got it, though I never ended up putting on any new roms or anything (was more into it with my D1, but I regress). Anyways, today I notice my power button has crapped out on me. It still sticks out fine and I can very easily press it, but it does nothing. Currently my only way to turn the screen on and off is to unplug it, not a viable solution long term.
I decided that since I have insurance I will just take it in and have Verizon replace it for me. Which means I need to go to stock. Downloaded the PG05IMG file and placed it on the root, went through adb and got all the way to the bootloader. Except I can't select any menu options with he power button! So I was stuck. Decided to try and flash the PG05IMG file using Rom Manager, which got me back to stock but with root permissions (where I was before essentially).
So, is there some way for me to actually unroot this phone completely while avoiding the bootloader? Perhaps I downloaded a stock with root access rom instead of a normal one by mistake, but I was following exactly an unroot tutorial. Just worried, since the phone is almost unusable as a mobile device right now and it will take the Verizon guy all of 5 seconds to scroll down my app drawer and see SuperUser.
Thanks for any help, love XDA
well...
you could either take it to a local cell phone repair shop and have them fix the button....
or...
if your phone somehow got lost or stolen, there's always that route.......
õ_Ô
Have you tried using something like a pen or paperclip to press the power button? Not a long term solution but could get you back to stock if it works.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
I have been trying with a sewing needle right now. Same idea as the paper clip, but I can't seem to find where the contact point is. Either that or it isn't the button that is bad but instead the contact. Don't know how to get around the latter problem.
Think I got it
So using adb and going into the bootloader never worked, still needed to click the power button to select the options. However, getting into the bootloader by holding volume down and doing a battery pull got me through and started the process automatically.
After it flashed I checked again and I have S-ON and no super user

[Q] Is my Amaze bricked ??

Ok guys, yes...I'm a noob...
I did a master reset on the phone and now I get nothing...
It won't turn on unless I plug it in to the charger.
When it does turn on, all I get is a few vibrations, and
the icons at the bottom light up.
I can get windows to see the two "drives" of the phone,
but they are empty (have 0 bytes if you right click and check properties. If you left click, it says please insert disc).
I've tried a new battery and my battery turns another phone on...
I've also tried two cables and two PCs.
It hasn't been rooted or messed with, the battery died and I went to charge
it and nothing...I left it on charge overnight and at least see a bit life.
Any ideas, or should I just send it on to HTC??
So that others have a better idea... can you get into hboot or fastboot?

he said he already tried a new charged battery, so it can't be that. I'm thinking his phone's OS might be gone so he should probably installed a RUU or something.

no idea what mode it's in, hboot, fastboot or anything ??!?!!
Think it might be possible to install just a stock (Tmobile) RUU?? If so, how ?????

There isn't a way if your phone isn't detected or you can't get into hboot. Meaning you have no control over your phone to do anything.
Anyways, for htc warranty exchanges that is done with tmobile... they usually send you the phone first and then you send one back in return. Unless your policy is different. So i suggest you calling them immediately.
Update
I can go into control panel and "see" the phone listed in device manager under portable devices as "F" and "G". Click properties and they are found as HTC devices. Does this mean I can do anything to it? I just want my phone back working as fast as I can. Sending it in will take a while. I bought this phone for the camera. We have a 1 yr old and don't wanna miss the Christmas pics...

are you on tmobile? they usually send within 2 days, their distribution center is in texas or something. I usually get it next day.
You said your screen doesn't turn on or doesn't show anything. It's gonna be hard to determine what you're doing even if you can run ADB to put it in oem fastboot and to flash a RUU that way. But it sounds like your display might be a problem too then. It'll be quicker to do an exchange. If you call in today, they'll probably ship it on monday and you'll get it wednesday latest. unless you have tmobile insurance plan. it should be next day and you'll get it tuesday.
Thanks
Well that might work for me then...can't hurt to give it a try.
Thanks a bunch for letting me know !!!
No problem, I had my fair share dealing with tmobile exchanges lol.
If you purchased directly from tmobile it should be very easy to do an exchange because your warranty is verified.
If you bought it off craigslist/ebay. sometimes the previous users used a different carriers that makes the warranty no longer verified. HOWEVER many customer reps will still try to process the exchange (you can determine by their upbeat personalities lol).
If you run into someone who won't do it, just call again and talk to another rep. Most of the time they will push it through because it's still a newly released phone.
Have you already contacted T-Mobile support? You'll have to talk to them anyway before they agree to replace your phone.
The reason I am asking this is because there might be an unpublished backdoor way to restore your device if your device is not completely (hardware-wise) dead. For example, Dell Streak has a complete firmware image on its internal SD card and you needed to somehow trigger an IPL routine to restore the device to its original condition.
I haven't heard of anything similar on HTC devices yet, but hey, it's just a thought. And if there actually is a way, and you are the first one to post it here, you'll be a hero!

yeah we normally just flash a RUU, but you can't even see the screen, so we can't even be certain that we're in the correct modes to be flashing and stuff. because we require to ADB it to restart in fastboot, but we can't even see if its going to fastboot. or if it already is in fastboot to begin with, so we're not certain which commands to run with the screen being off. Well you can always try commands and it should only work in certain modes, but do you really want to do it blindly? I would rather just exchange the thing.
Not afraid to try....
Well, I can't use it as it is...exchange is a hassle even in 2-3 days. Can't do anything until tomorrow anyway. I was thinking today, I've heard they can port Android to iPhone...there's no fastboot there, is there ??? Soooooo, if it's turning on, I should be able to do something...I want my phone back !!!
Edit: I misunderstood the issue

[Q] Probable brick, unsure, please help!

I was given a htc DNA and it's been one headache after another. It had a cracked digitizer, s-off, eng hboot, unlocked boot loader and a custom recovery installed on it when it was given to me. Trying to make a long story short, I ended up having to replace the board with the sim card reader on it and immediately after putting the new board in the cameras quit working along with the speakers and microphone. I was able to get all but the cameras working, but then I bricked it, and here is how. I was attempting to return back to stock, relocked the boot loader, was attempting to use a ruu which wasn't working, so I decided to unlock my boot loader again. The story ends with me attempting the unlock with ez-unlock, and when I did it said successful and I was able to keep using the phone as normal, but after turning the phone off it wouldnt turn back on, and the only sign of life comes when I plug it into my computer. As soon as i connect it to my computer, htc sync manager opens up but says no phone connected, device manager will show the phone as my htc and android 1.0.. I've experienced similar signs of life from an htc vivid, but it's issues were due to a bad battery, so I am hoping for the best but expecting this to end with jtag. Can anybody help me out please, it would be great to not require jtag services, but it would be better yet if I could gain a better understanding of at least what went wrong. Thank you

Sadly no, I can't get it to boot at all. I also need to mention that the lights don't come on when it's plugged in either. I'm thrown for a loop by it all because my computers will still react to it if I hook it up to them with usb, but that's about all they will do. Why would sync manager open up when I plug it in, but then state that there is no device connected.
Ive seen where people have said to leave phone charging for 24 hours without trying to turn it on and it worked. I've also seen people run a calibration test on the battery but I forgot how to do it.

EZ-Unlock is an unsupported method by the DNA hardware. It will always cause a hard-brick. Which you have done. I did this to myself at one point, too. I tried EZ-Unlock and it hard-bricked my DNA. Call Verizon. Tell them that it just randomly started doing this. Don't mention root or anything. They'll replace it for free. That's what I did.
Sorry about that bud. Try to do some more research before modding your phone next time.

Well thank you for your feedback, and assistance. I owe most everything I know about phones to XDA and it's members! Regarding my situation with the DNA, yup sure enough it is bricked. I figured it was, but have had similar reactions from a bad battery in the past, so.. Regarding the process of unlocking the boot loader, this is the first time I've ever directly seen anything regarding the cid. Not sure if maybe it has been part of the process in ways that I was unaware of in the past with other phones or if this is more device specific, but either way would anybody possibly know where I could find more in depth information regarding this and if there is anybody who is knowledgeable with this that wouldn't mind helping somebody out?
sorry for the run on sentences lol
oh, and thank you for the referral to Zarboz, I will definitely be getting in touch with him.

Need to Return to stock

My htc one m8 is unable to send and receive MMS messages. I've been on the phone with tech support since this morning. I'm going to take the phone back and possibly sway it out for another one. I had unlocked the boot-loader and I had rooted the device.
Since im returning it I relocked the boot-loader but its still showing
***TAMPERED*** and ***RELOCKED*** on the boot-loader screen.
Three questions.
How do i unroot it?
Do i need to flash the a ruu file to get it back to normal? if so where can i find it.
Dude... There it's no ruu yet. The phone just launched. We me than likely won't get one until well after your return exchange period expires. I'min a similar boat as my computer refuses to fully flash twrp to mine and now I can't boot into recovery at all. I'll probably needtowait for an ruu as well. Good luck, hope you can just get the issue resolved because exvhangingwould be a bad idea with your device in its current state. Have you tried getting a new SIM card for your device? I actually work for att and more often than not a new SIM will fix a data/mms issue.
We tried a lot of trouble shooting. Its definitely the phone. I took the sim out the phone and popped it into my nexus 5 and I was able to send and receive MMS without an issue.
Im new to HTC and if i knew they were so high maintenance I would of never gotten it. lol
maybe if i can find the stock recovery i can reflash that and that should take care of the tampered snitch and ill just take it back with the relocked showing
generally they're not terribly high maintenance, but anything compared to a nexus is high lol. Also, had you gotten the developer version it wouldn't be high maintenance either. The maintenance comes from the carrier lock and having to bypass it. not trying to flame, but if you didn't purchase the dev edition or the GPe version then you bear the risk. Then either way, htc states that by unlocking you waive your right to your warranty. Again, not being a jerk or trying to be mean, but next time I would take at least a few hours to test basic functions before jumping into it. If you already had and it was working fine before, something must have went wrong during the unlock/root process. Either way, let's just hope an RUU drops before your R/E runs out. You'll still have your warranty but we all know the potential risks of getting a "like-new replacement".
p.s. i would still try a new sim. over time heat can wear away the laminated coating on the sim where it touches the contacts on the inside of the phone. It's an outside shot and might not help at all but it would definitely be a more feasible option to try at the moment.
i found this hope it helps.
AT&T HTC One M8 unroot utilizing SuperSU or TWRP recovery
This is the first method that you can try using SuperSU.
Open Play store to see if there is a new update for SuperSU, to make sure you are running the most recent version.
Run it from app drawer.
Go to the Settings section above, scroll down the hit Full unroot option. You’ll see a warning message, just tap continues to start the uninstall process.
Once done, the phone will reboot. Your phone should unrooted now after boots up.
at&t htc one m8 unroot
Image: HTC / AT&T
If the above method does not work to unroot AT&T HTC One M8, we are going to tell you how doing it manually.
Boot your phone to TWRP recovery mode by turn off your phone then presses Vol up + Power to boot into bootloader then choose RECOVERY. There is a more simple way, by using “adb reboot recovery”.
Once came into TWRP main menu, now tap Mount -> Mount system then taps Home.
Tap Advanced -> File Manager, browse to “/system/xbin” folder. From there delete su, daemonsu or busybox if it exists. Also browse to “/system/app” the get rid of Superuser.apk.
