CDMA/GSM Question - Motorola Droid RAZR

I just got the Droid RAZR with Verizon and I flashed a CDMA ROM and its working great, but I want to know if I am able to flash a GSM ROM as well. Well it cause any problems or no? Just a simple answer is fine and it may be a dumb question or there is a thread somewhere, but just like to know! Thanks in advance!

There is a patch that allows GSM users to flash CDMA roms. I think the oposite is not possible. You have to flash a CDMA rom.

Questions about radios angle kernels

Ok so I have seen that when you download a Rom, sometimes they ask that you flash the latest radio and or kernel. So how do you find out what the right one is for the Rom you are tryin to flash. And on top of that I have no idea what a radio image or a kernel is or does so if any one knows a good link to school me on that I'm sure that would help. Thanks

For radios, USUALLY the latest released version is the best. There are some situations where an older version may actually work better for your carrier (telco). You can find a list for GSM HTC Hero radios here: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?307-Gsm-Hero-Radio-Roms-Download-Links It is VERY, VERY important to flash the correct radio for your device, otherwise you will probably brick it.
For kernels, the ROM dev usually (99.9% of the time) includes the kernel so you don't have to worry about it. Some users though want different performance out of their devices and MAY flash another kernel.
This sticky provides good advice http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797740. It is from the XDA GSM Hero dev section.
Is a hero the same as a g2? I have a t-mobile us g2. So would hero radios work for it? And would I flash the radio or Rom first?

Oh and if you do flash the wrong radio can you not fix it be recovering a backup

I might be wrong but I think your phone is like the HTC Desire Z. If it is, this is the wrong section of XDA for you.

Don't think so. Just try not to flash the wrong one.

ok, seriously - what he said is correct, but I too am uncertain if this is the correct place for you.
I know the xda title is HTC G2/GSM hero. but I think the GSM hero and G2 actually use different radios? It certainly could be true anyway and I would not take a chance by flashing a G2 radio or any other radio without confirming with a real bonified G2 user.
edit: we're 99% hero users here.

The G2 Touch (this section of XDA) was/is offered by T-Mobile UK. Also known as the GSM HTC Hero - offered by numerous other carriers.
To complicate things further, there is also a CDMA HTC Hero. Different animal altogether.
Just be careful!
Flashed the radio.... nothing bad happens... but I just flashed the minui rom..... bad ARE!

Radio info

Hey guys just switched to Verizon from att. On my inspire I could run any radio I want on any ROM. I've done some searching and research on this but still don't have a definitive answer. What do I need to watch out for when flashing a radio? Can an incompatible radio to the ROM your running cause damage or just signal problems? And is it like the evo3d do u flash radios and 4g radios separate or are they one package? I'm a pretty experienced flasher i've rooted and rom'd quite a few phones but this leaves me a little confused. Thanks for the help.

Flash a Froyo radio for a Froyo ROM and vice versa for Gingerbread.
If you flash it incorrectly, you won't have service.
Welcome aboard.

Pretty much all you're answers can be found in my thread stickied at the top of Q&A, as well as the links to the radios.

[Q] Is there any way to flash a CDMA rom on a GSM EVO 3D?

Hi everyone , I recently got my EVO 3D and it's GSM , so...can I flash a CDMA one because I saw there are different development forums?
Thanks in advance!
Its not possible unfortunately. The radios are different, if I understand correctly, and flashing a cdma rom on a GSM device is a surefire way to permanently brick your phone. Hope this helps.

Short answer: Yes, but the device will not function properly.
Longer answer plus some optimistic hopes: Flashing only a CDMA ROM onto a GSM device will not permanently brick the device (as quoted above) given the ROM follows standard conventions of only containing the system partition and kernel. The ROM more than likey will not work though assuming the kernel allows the device to boot correctly.
At this point, Android incorporates GSM/CDMA radio types fairly low level into the kernel radio drivers and operating system framework files. Perhaps at some point in the future, both GSM and CDMA will be incorproated into the same kernel and operating system making it easy to switch between. Currently, this isn't the case and requires a bit of work.
Hopefully in the future with more devices receiving one radio capable of both, GSM and CDMA, we could also have the software to support it!
Hope that helps
Thanks for the correction! : )

that's quite unfortunate since I saw many good roms on the CDMA forum...

[Q] porting CDMA to GSM

First off I would like to say that this question has nothing to do with the photon.. I also have am Atrix 2 (GSM). I am wondering if anyone could help us out over there.. I can't post this question there because nobody there now's how to do this lol. We are trying to get ics on the Atrix 2 and porting aokp from the Droid 3 works near flawlessly. Everything works except for calling/SMS/data the usual, well obviously because it is a cdma device and the Atrix 2 is a GSM device. These ports are stable enough for daily use if only we could figure out a way to convert them to take advantage of the GSM radio...
Could someone please give some helpful advise for this matter? I'm posting here because out of all the devices I feel the people here are the most knowledgeable and this is also a cdma/GSM world phone so it seems more relevant lol

Could you possibly get Joker's GSM fix for the Photon to work?

I just checked it out. It contains moto lib files and the buildprop is too heavily modified for the photon. Though I'm wondering if I could take that GSM fix and just edit the buildprop for the Atrix 2. But lib files are my concern. I didn't see any in the zip so that means his fix is using what's already on the phone. In the buildprop edit he has there are lines directing to the path of specific lib files. Those will be different between each device

Would pulling the libs from the Atrix CM7 work? Sadly i dont have an Atrix to play with to help but i have been trying to talk my girlfriend into getting one.

Spleef and th3bill are porting ics roms to the atrix maybe they can help. Wouldn't hurt to shoot them a pm.

I wish they could but sadly this is the Atrix 2. Completely different hardware than the original atrix

Not sure if you are still working on this project or not but would it be possible to flash the KDDI radio from halfevildruid's method of unlocking the Photon?

[Q] Is peeter's ROM good for Photon Sprint

I am currently rooted with 2.3.5 locked bootloaders using Slim Photon rom. I am wondering if I can flash Peeter's rom on my MoPho Sprint as his post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587770) does not talk about its compatibility with Sprint models.
If anyone using this ROM can help me guide.
Yes. Flash the locked version and the correct system version modules otherwise you'll most likely lose WiFi or radio capabilities.
Edit: I'm sorry, just flash the 254_12ril.so file

Great. Shall try & flash it today. Was little worried since it failed to boot up the last time when i tried this
I believe peetr's ROM does not support 4G wireless. Just make sure.

That's what I'm using. Breaks the 4G. But overall a much better layout and experience than stock IMO.
Working well on Sprint Photon 4G
I can't say anything about 4G since we don't have it in India. But 3G & all other services are just fine. and with ICS theme, this ROM fares much better then Slim Photon.
Thanks a lot guys
